Comparative battery analysis thread (GSam Battery Monitor only!) - G2 General

Taking a close look at the long battery review thread, while there is a lot of information there regarding individual battery usage, the screen-on and overall usage times vary by a lot. It is impossible to draw conclusions regarding why the results vary so much, because most people did not give enough relevant information there.
I think it will be very interesting if we all used the same *comprehensive* method to compare our battery usage. We could really discover important things about our individual usage and how it compares to others (and how to make it even better).
It is important to note that when battery life is low (in comparison to other G2 users), sometimes this could be because we are taxing our device with heavy usage (and nothing is actually wrong), but other times something is definitely wrong (wakelocks, bad phone reception, etc.). This thread will help each and every one of us (that get lower than expected battery life) understand which of these two possibilities is correct for him (something wrong VS taxing usage).
In order to do this, let's use the excellent "GSam Battery Monitor" app, which could be downloaded freely from the Play Store.
Please post your results when your battery becomes low (around 10 percent), after it was fully charged.
If you want an accurate opinion about your battery behavior, with tips on how to improve things, please provide all the attached screens (please provide the graph image in landscape mode, and sort it by "other"):

Is this really necessary? The G2 has a fat battery. But any amount of power can be drained if you drain it. Enough said.

I say let's give this a shot. This phone has a beefy battery indeed, but still, some of us are posting 7 hours screen-on times, while some of us only 4. Let's see what this thread will provide us with. I have a good hunch this will be a very revealing thread.

Okay Well in the interest of troubleshooting good luck. I get 1.5 days easily with a good amount of music play. I always suggest people delete the Facebook app and use it in the browser, and disable data/sync while you're in a bad reception building/area

Yep, these are some solid good general advices.

I could only drain the battery to 50% today, so I'm posting this for now to get this thread running (and tomorrow I'll post the 10% results). It's funny because I have no trouble finishing the battery everyday, yet today it's giving me "problems". It's like it knows it is being monitored, and the battery hogs are afraid of being greenified...
Let's get over my results in the main screen:
Phone: yes, I did not use the phone to make phone calls. Not unusual for me...
Screen: almost 4 hours screen time, pretty impressive considering the phone has been running for more than 13 hours, and the battery is at 50%. On the other hand I did not make any phone calls, so this could be part of the reason for that excellent screen-on time. Btw, I'm using "Lux brightness control" instead of the LG2's pathetic brightness control feature, the Lux app itself drew practically zero power (as can be seen at the "App Sucker" screen, or actually, you can't even see it because it's too down in the list).
Phone Radio: At 7.9%, I don't really know whether it's good or bad, although this is definitely not a major battery user. I've attached the cellular reception screen too, just so people could reference with theirs. I think overall the reception is pretty good according to that image.
Wifi Active: The Wifi has been on the entire operating time. Most of the time it was connected to my home router, and some of the time it was not connected at all, but still on (when I was out of the house). I'm attaching the Wifi screen so people could see how much traffic the phone had through wifi, for reference. With only 3.9% battery usage, I think there is no need to turn the wifi off, ever.
Held Awake: The phone was awake for 1 hour (while the screen off, that is). Out of 13 hours being awake for 1 hour, I'm not sure whether this is good or bad. This will become clearer when more people will post their result here. It says that the power that was drawn during this 1 wake hour is 0.0%, I'm not sure if this is true, or some kind of inability of GSam to calculate battery usage for this awake period (if GSam IS correct, then I guess I don't understand what's the point of deep sleep, if the phone draws practically zero power even when awake...).
Bluetooth: The BT was on the entire operating time, but connected to a device only a short amount of time. In any case it drew no power according to this screen... like wifi, I think there is no need to turn the BT off, ever.
Regarding the "App Sucker" screen, I can't really say anything intelligent about this, no app seem to drain the battery too much. The 4 hours screen-on time was mainly spent browsing the internet, using Whatsapp, watching youtube, using XDA app (not even listed in the first screen) neither of which seem to drain the battery too much...
So, now that we have some reference (and a reference for a pretty good battery behavior, I think) It will be interesting to see how your results compare...

Just a quick question. I work in a building where there is terrible service. I mean so bad sometimes I get none at all. How does turning off mobile data save battery. Essentially your phone is still trying to connect to the mobile network all the same. I'm kind of looking for a technical explanation not just the 4g uses more battery type.

Don't forget, the vzw version will throw a wrench into these comparisons.
Thanks Devs. From my VZW G2.

If you have bad cellular reception, turning off mobile data can help, but as you said it won't completely solve the problem because the phone still needs to connect to the network so you could talk and send SMS. I think switching to airplane mode (and using WIFI) is the best solution for battery life in this case. Still, I think you should use GSam to really see how much battery is drained by your bad cellular reception.

I am using it now. Waiting until it drops to around 20% to post my results. Will get back.
Edit:
Here are my statistics. You think my phone just has bad reception and is in a bad area or there is something wrong with my antenna? My old Droid Razr HD was the same way, barely any service. I'm definitely not staying with Verizon. I pay out the noodle for "the best service" and I get crap. I live on Long Island outside New York City, my service should be amazing.

Ok, as promised, here are my 10% results:
Phone: did have some phone calls today, though nothing significant. I guess my usage can't really tell how significant phone calls are going to be with the G2, though this should not be a significant battery drainer for most.
Screen: As you remember, yesterday, after 13 hour phone usage, I had 50% battery, I had 3 hours 47 minutes of screen-on time. At that point I thought I might get over 7 hours screen-on time, but here I show about 5 hours 25 minutes. I guess that if I completely drained it, I would have gotten close to 6 hours, not bad.
Phone radio: seems similar to yesterday, about 10% of the battery... I still get good reception, as the image shows.
Wifi active: Wifi had been on the entire time, using 5.6% of the battery.
Held awake: So, yesterday after 13 hours of usage, the screen was held awake 1 hours. Today, after a total of 31 hours, the phone was held awake a total of 3 hours. It seems that the phone consistently is held awake for about 1 hour, every 10 hours of operation time (under my specific configuration, that is). I still find it weird that this "held awake" time did not tax the battery at all. How is this possible ?
Bluetooth: was on the entire time, not connected most of the time. Zero impact on battery.
Regarding the App Sucker screen, similar to yesterday, can't say anything special about this. This day I kept browsing the interned using Opera browser, and added another hour using Runkeeper with GPS tracking (with screen off). After a full cycle of battery usage, the main battery draw comes from the Home launcher, next is Opera browser, and then the apps become pretty much insignificant in terms of battery usage. Maybe two last points here: I'm using both Lux brightness control (to control auto brightness) and Delayed Lock (to remove the lock when connected to certain wifi points and BT devices), both of these apps always run in the background, yet consume practically zero battery, so high recommendation for both of these (they also work great with the G2). Last point, I'm using all the google location access services (everything is turned on there), and I really don't see this taxing in any way, using this GSam report.
That's it for now. Waiting for your results for comparison.

Interesting results. I thought this thread would be revealing, and it doesn't disappoint already.
Your phone reception is pretty bad, much much worse than mine. BUT, you can see that the difference in battery draw is not really significant between my case (I have great reception) and yours, in both cases the phone radio took about 10% of the battery. It seems that the phone reception qaulity doesn't make much difference on the battery (whether it's pretty good, or pretty bad. Maybe this will change if the reception is horrific... like 0 and 1). Comparing my GSam report to yours, you will gain practically no battery advantage by making your phone reception better (at least considering your current phone usage - you barely made phone calls, but still phone reception is also important in order to keep the phone connected to the network, and also for mobile data...). This is REALLY surprising, I thought that when comparing my excellent reception to your very bad one, if I got 10% battery usage (for phone radio), you'll get something like 30%. This did not happen at all, surprisingly!.
Your Held awake time is pretty much similar to mine, as evertything else is similar to mine (wifi active, etc.), yet you seem to get significantly less screen-on time than I. I can think of one explantion: I see you are using G2's automatic brightness control, which is pretty horrible, while I use Lux brightness control, which can reduce the brightness much much more, when it's appropriate. I really can't think of any other major contributor to your battery drainage in comparison to mine...
One thing still keeps me bewildered: why doesn't the "held awake" period tax the battery ?? I mean, the phone is awake, yet no battery is being used... how could this be possible ? Is this a problem of GSam which can't read this information right ?

When you turn off mobile data the phone stops searching for a data connection, thus this battery draining process is halted

This is true but look at the sent part of data of the phone radio. My received data is much higher then yours but I can assure you I only receive data via WiFi because my phone signal is so bad. Your sent in comparison much more data then me probably via your phone signal.
This is also very important. I had my mobile data OFF while at work today. I have a shift tomorrow where I will keep the mobile data on and post new results.
Edit: Also about the phone being kept awake and not using any battery. It does seem odd. Perhaps we should also use the orginal screenshots of the stock battery app (pending you still have stock rom).

[TIPS] Longer Battery Life

Some one just tonite asked me how I can possibly get 15+ hours on a single charge using my new Amaze 4G. Just to give you a bit of background, since having the vibrant and the unofficial leaks of Froyo that popped up here and there I was always looking to improve my battery life in every which way while not comprimising my user experiance. For those that dont know, the Vibrant was stuck on Eclair for a really really long time and we resorted to building Froyo roms using the i9000 source which for some reason killed battery like you would believe. After weeks of playing and testing I came to a few generic tips that seem to drastically help (beyond the obvious things you normally would expect).
This is what I personally do and have found to work, you take them or leave them makes no differance to me whatsoever, just friendly suggestions.
The Super Duper Number 1 thing I've found to HUGELY improve my battery life was instead of using gsm (4g/3g/edge) I use Wifi whenever possible. Most of my time is spent at home or work where I have routers. For whatever reason using wifi is less taxing on the battery then gsm. Also changing the wifi sleep policy to never will add to this.
Since i spend most my day inside i keep my brightness relatively low. I do not use auto brightness unless I really need to.
Obviously I keep my gps off unless I absolutely need it.
Sense has some neat power saving features to help with sync settings at certain times... i.e. during my sleeping time, it automatically change my sync to every 2 hours rather then every 15 min like its typically set to during the day.
The few steps above have helped me acheive 15+ hours on a single charge. Some other things that should help even more would be:
Limit the number of widgets you run (especially the ones that constantly update)
Dont use Live Wallpaper
Extend your sync intervals on email and social apps... instead of every 10 move to every 20
make sure when you are away from wifi you turn your wifi off
If you are in an area with poor coverage (especially 4g) turn your data to edge only
Not sure about LCD but on my samoled keeping screen colors to darkest possible (black wallpapers, etc) helps conserve a bit
Change you timeout setting to the lowest you can stand possible (15sec, 30sec)
Avoid task killer apps... let the system do its job or use the built in task killer for those apps you wish to close. (I know the verdict is out on whether they help or not, but I believe using auto app killers does more damage then good, they were designed for old android versions that didnt function the way GB does now)
That's it for now... if I can remember or think of any more I will def post. Like I said you can take or leave my advice. Please do me one favor.... if you DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING POSITIVE TO ADD THEN KEEP YOUR NEGATIVTY TO YOURSELF. It makes for a happier forum! Thanks
how do you access the internal task killer? i havent seen it.. but i see it in the applications when i manage my apps.
and i think the one thing i do wrong is never switch to wifi lol
my previous devices would drain faster on wifi than gsm
but i will give it a try
thanks
I've heard this also WiFi + radio drains more than just radio unless you have a crappy connection then you are better.off with wifi. Gr8 guide tho .... Use less sync people the weather is the same as it was 2h ago.... Unless its raining

To also help with Battery Life you can do these steps exactly: 1) Turn your device ON and Charge the device for 8 hours or more 2) Unplug the device and Turn the phone OFF and charge for 1 hour 3) Unplug the device Turn ON wait 2 minutes and Turn OFF and charge for another hour Your battery life should almost double, we have tested this on our devices and other agents have seen a major difference as well.

Radio by itself drains more battery then using wifi + radio... trust me i've been doing it for 2+ years. also had all my team mates do the same and they all confirmed a huge boost in battery. as long as you are CONNECTED to a wifi router it will not drain. now if you leave the wifi and keep it on along with radio on, that will totally demolish your battery. its the constant searching on both parts that eats the most battery. if youre solid connected... its no longer searching.
I did all that and then some and my battery shows 120 to 200 MA in standby . I used to have htc hd2 and it had 3 to 5 MA in standby . I don't know what to disable anymore , Or is this normal for this phone ?

I was going to post the same thing, and found this here - lol. I have been trying this for a few days already.
I will add some minor modifications though. The above was done when devices and batteries were smaller. The 8 hours might be enough - see if the light changes from amber to green by then (or the battery indicator) - otherwise wait.
Then also wait on the 1st 1 hour charge while off if the light is still amber at one hour - wait until it is green. Ditto on the second one.
I did it just like the original above, and when I turned my phone on at the end - it was at 93%, so I plugged it in until it hit 100% for a while, disconnected, and then did a battery calibration (APP) at 100%
Again - I think with the bigger battery it takes longer. on a MT4G, the light was green at the end of each hour (smaller battery).
I have seen a significant improvement - and I already had battery saving profiles set up with SETCPU. I may do it one more time the way I modified it above.
PS - I always get better life on WiFi (If connected). Also, a friend lives in a weak (data) signal area, and when not on WiFi, keeping it on 2g (edge) really upped her life on a MT4G

I mainly posted that for proof of concept. The only way I ever got what I wanted out of a battery was through SBC kernels. That's one reason way I am leaving the Evo and switching to the Amaze, outside of the crap Sprint puts customers through.
Is the Ultimate app worth it?
Hell yea it's worth it. Because without it when your device is asleep it's still connected to 4g and whatever else. But with juice defender it turns off everything the moment you put the phone to sleep saving you a lot battery for when you really need to use your phone so yes. Its a must I feel like it should be mandatory on every android phone.

x2 on that... It really gives you a longer battery life. and having 2 batteries also extends the life to 24 hours + of not having to sit and wait for a full charged battery.
If you want to see your Sense force closing after every restart + plus having other problems such as frozen clock, etc, then use Juice Defender. After a week of constant problems caused by this app (and I was using it on the Balance mode), I was that close to returning my Amaze, because initially I thought there was some software defect, till one day I googled it and found out the real reason. Uninstalled it and my problems disappeared at once (actually I did a factory reset just to make sure its all gone). Just a fair warning.

Poor battery life?

Anyone else getting poor battery life with their Razr? I cannot go a full day without recharging at some point. I need a phone to last at least 16 waking hours, so I can recharge at night.
My typical usage pattern is a few hours a day of web browsing and email. I don't game, and I rarely stream video or do anything data intensive. GPS is switched off unless needed, and my screen brightness is set to auto.

I'm actually getting pretty good battery life compared to what I've read so far... Though it wasn't 16 hours, I DID get almost 12 out of it yesterday with pretty heavy usage all day.
I highly suggest using the task managers auto end feature. It'll turn off any apps you set it to after 2 minutes. Fast Reboot is also a very good friend of mine. Though I haven't set any yet, I've played with Smart Actions, and I think with some tinkering, it'll work wonders as well!

JuiceDefender with root, AOSP helper, and a manual setup is extremely helpful. The data disable override feature should be on as well.
Make sure in-pocket detection is OFF, as well. It kills the battery really really quickly.
As far as smart actions.... Just turn on the premade battery extender and nighttime battery extender. And data off on screen off.
Lastly, screen filter from the market helps a lot.
I got a full day and 2 hours of use today on Wi-Fi. I'm sure on 3G I could get 20ish hours, and on 4G I could get 15ish.
Mine is great. I got my phone yesterday so it isn't fully calibrated yet but it still last very good.
I've found that the the biggest drainer for me is being in an area where 4g/3g is flip flopping alot. Other than that, phones got amazing battery life. Especially on wifi.

Turn all haptic(vibration) feedback off. i get about 20 hours on 4g, all apps in auto end list, i don't have any BS apps that like to run randomly, not synced with my fb,twitter, g+(have my laptop all day so no point), brightness is about 30%, smart actions usually kill my batt faster for some reason, gps is on, timeout is 30 seconds. My typical usage pattern is a few hours a day of web browsing and email. I don't game, and I rarely stream video or do anything data intensive. GPS is switched off unless needed, and my screen brightness is set to auto.

Put the power control widget on your home screen.
Set brightness to minimum or lowest setting that you can use well.
Use wifi whenever possible. Turn. Off new network notifications.
Turn off animations.
Use a simple, mostly black wallpaper.
Turn off auto data sync.
Since I'm around wifi all day I can easily go 12 hours without a charge and have plenty of battery left. 4g is a total power hog.
If you're outside you might want to buy the power pack... good luck!
I think typical android battery life for a normal use will be varies from 6~20 hrs depending on the way u use and what you use.
when running only data/wifi when i need it(off data/wifi when not using), i can get more then 20hrs. if i on data all the time, i can get 8~10hrs with with some facebook, emails and lite web sufing. i will get 4~6 hrs on heavy use on gaming, video and music.
but u need smart action, task killer and ti backup to really optimize the battery life.

yeah.
battery life is a hard problem for android device for a long time.
but i can use some trips, for example.
1. using the task managers, it can kill some app that you used.
2. using the app called province electricity king or the same function app.
3. turn off the back-data auto sync

My Razr has a very good battery life after a few cycles of charging and discharging.

Will the people that get awesome battery life share what they are running?

I've tried a bunch of different combinations but I have gone back to GB every time. I don't even care about features anymore I just want to get the most out of my battery life. If you are getting great battery life will you post your kernel, firmware, and ROM please? Please post if you are on Ext Batt or not.
Thanks
I have an extended battery and I think my battery life is really good. Primarily, I turn off most automatic syncing and keep my screen turned down as low as possible at all times. I use a widget called Brightness Level and I keep it at 13% most of the time. I also keep GPS, Bluetooth, and WiFi off unless I specifically need them. Other than that, I'm not doing anything special. I'm on Clean ROM 4.5 Standard.

I think the biggest culprit is the screen. I'll get varying battery life every day, anywhere from 2 to 12 hours on a standard battery, or 4 to 30 hours on extended.
The only common factor in each of these for me is screen-on time. I'll get 1.5-2 hours on standard or 3.5-4.5 on the extended battery before it dies.
However, as previously mentioned, turning off Bluetooth, wifi, GPS, mobile data, and sync will always help battery life. Too bad I rely heavily on some form of data, email, and Bluetooth headsets for my work.

All in my sig.
I've got a system...
I usually can get through the day with a regular battery; a few things to remember:
1) Mail/messaging/anything push
if you can deal with it, set peak hours from like 7am to 7pm and get stuff every two hours during peak and every four hours during off-peak. Push means your phone is actively waiting or doing something almost all the time. This one single thing will make the biggest difference, except for...
2) The Display
The biggest energy hog of all. Actually not much you can do here but set it to time out quickly (a minute or less) and set to either auto brightness or remember to turn it down indoors.
3) Audio
Running audio through the speakers also uses more battery. Try headphones.
Bluetooth audio is great but again bluetooth also uses more energy than headphones.
4) Networking startup services
Lots of games install startup services that run constantly in the background checking for data from the mothership and/or other players. Get rid of them or turn them off if you can. Some apps also do this, I dont have a list but a little Googling will enlighten you.
Any other tips? I'm always looking for other (reasonable) ways to save battery.
PS: as you probably know, the phone (and any smartphone) will charge about %500 faster if its completely turned off. Common sense, I know, but you'd be surprised...
this will keep you going all day:
http://www.amazon.com/Xantrex-XPowe...IC/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1337500958&sr=8-12
Seriously though, if you actually use your phone throughout the day, its probably better to just get the extended battery. Anytime you turn the screen on, it sucks battery.
You can try juice defender. I have it set to extreme and tell it which apps can turn on data with and without screen on, so 4g is only on when it needs to be.
I've heard ROM toolbox can keep apps from opening in the background but haven't paid for it yet. This would be good for games like draw something and WWF that seem to suck power constantly.
Thanks for the replies. I changed my power from performance to normal and that made a big difference because the phone won't sleep in performance mode. Just a note it will still sleep data even though my hotmail is on push. I am using the hotmail app not the htc mail app. I see people with 3+ hours of battery life in the battery thread and I don't see how they do it. I have the extended and I can make it through a day but I only use the screen for under an hour it seems. I'm not really seeing anything new in here I'm not doing but I do keep my screen auto a lot so I might jack that down. I keep every feature off when not in use.
I'm using stock rooted 3.14.605.5 with same firmware and over been getting better battery life since flashing.
I'm mad as hell about losing unlimited data!

Man, That's some serious ****
I generally get great battery life-around 4 hours screen on, 4g, gps. However, a few days ago I noticed higher than normal temps, and poor battery life.
So what changed?
I traced it to the installation of one free app. Picsart-uninstalled and everything is peachy again.
This is my second rezound, the first one always ran hot and drained the battery.
If you're having problems with heat and drain, run a full ruu and see if it helps, if not you may have a bad device or possibly a bad sim. I don't think that the device is the problem in most situations. More likely a runaway app, bad radio/firmware/build combo, user error, or expectations too high.
My setup:

Your issue may lay mostly in poor reception. I notice your signal strength thing is in yellow most of the time. Use WiFi if you can. I get pretty good battery life on
Ineffibilis GB
Feb OTA firmware. Don't remember the numbers.
Dsb 1.1.3 undervolted by about 100mv via incredicontrol (UV depends on the device, each is diff) and under clocked to 1188mhz and with interactive governor.
I think my power setting is on Normal.
Also I have weather sync every 3 hrs. Facebook every 4 and leave my Gmail accounts on sync.
I get between 3.5 and 5 hours every day of screen on time through out the day if I'm using my phone a lot. This would also be coupled with usually around 30 minutes of phone calls too. But usually I only charge it every other day (when it gets to around 30%). I get more time out of it on WiFi (5+ hrs and less on 4G (3.5 to 4 hrs at most throughout the day). I also never run my phone down to less than 20% if I can help it. I'm on stock battery too

That battery life isn't great if you're only using 9m of screen on time. 60% after 5 hours isn't unusual for me if I have medium usage of my phone. Like platinum mentioned, your signal is terrible. The Rezound (and most phones) tend to use a lot of battery if they're trying to constantly find a signal.
Right. Battery should only drop 1 to 2 percent per hour on good signal. Bad signal can kill it... If I was on 3G my phone would be around the mid 90s with the same usage.

Does it matter if I turn off data or it will still drain looking for cell signal?
As long as you don't have partial wake issues, there are only two real concerns for battery.
It's not processor. Again, if the phone's not 'awake' while the screen is off, your phone's processor is not ramping up to full speed at all. While it's on and in your hand, 1.5ghz is a great speed for it to operate. Slower speeds than that significantly slow down how your phone operates, and you will have your screen on for seconds longer (Which uses WAY more battery than the higher clock speed).
In Facebook app, go to menu > settings > and change the refresh interval to NEVER!!!
As of Android 2.2, Facebook does push notifications. You don't need Facebook refreshing very 4 hours (OR EVER!). This wakes up your phone (ramps up processor speed, and so on), uses data (battery), and is unnecessary (since you get push notifications anyway). Turn that crap off. Same with Twitter. Turn it down to manual refreshing only (look in settings > accounts and sync as well as in the app). Same with Friendstream (which will automatically have its own refresh settings - fix them).
There are two things that use your battery.
1 - Screen. Turn your screen off when you're not using it. Stop turning your screen on every 12 minutes to 'see if you have any notifications'. Trust the green LED blinking light, or listen for your phone. You can stop checking it. You're using a TON of battery lighting up that 4.3" screen AND waking the phone back up (ramping up the processor, among other things, and it will stay awake for at least minutes, even after the screen goes back off).
2 - Data. Turn wifi off if you're not using it. Turn Mobile Network (GASP!) off when you're not using it. Pull down your notifications and hit Quick Settings, and turn Mobile Network off. Don't have that? Make the HTC Widget > settings > Mobile network. Turn it off when you're out with your friends after midnight. a) you're not going to post anything reasonable or coherent when you're out drinking anyway to Facebook, and b) call and text still works, so you can still mack on honeys all night (and text them drunkenly). You don't need your damn Gmail at 1am. I know you don't. Don't try to convince me otherwise.
If you keep your screen time to a minimum (and brightness down if you're not using auto brightness), and TURN OFF mobile network (internet) when not using it, your battery will last DAYS. Yes, the stock battery. Now, do you do 100+ texts per day? Sorry, your battery is going to die today. And tomorrow. Every day. The screen time murders the battery, and the Wake time that your phone will have as a result (like every time the phone lights up - for minutes at a time, it'll stay 'awake').
That's how you keep your battery going. On any android phone. Yes, an extended battery works great. I bought one (half price in a verizon store) AND got an EXTRA one for $4 (on amazon.com). Yes, it's for thunderbolt, but YES it's the same part number. It's running my phone right now. Keep it charged, and in your glove compartment. Your life will be better.
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0055OTNK4/ref=pe_175190_21431760_C1_cs_sce_3p_dp_1
Go get it. Turn off your internet, and your screen. Trust your LED notification light. Stop using MMS Screen On. Your battery will last all day, every day. Unless you text a lot. Then, good luck.

In short, yes.
If u turn off data it will help. But you will still have poor signal, so Idk how much it will help. apps and processes that use background data won't be using it, that alone will keep your phone from reconnecting so much, so it will help.
It takes your phone longer to connect on poor signals and your speeds are slower so it takes longer to do the same things. This also keeps your processor running faster for longer times.

Battery drain=bad batch of phones?

Being there's so much difference in battery life, I was curious if there might be a bad batch of phones. My phone gets great life and my dad's gets significantly less. He works about 2 blocks away from me and actually has a stronger signal in his building than I do at mine and his battery drops like a rock with nothing running. I'm rooted and froze the AT&T bloat. He's stock.
My serial number contains a PTM and the end number is in the 40000's. His serial number contains PZK and ends in a number in the 30000's. If you have time post your serial # info and how your battery life is.
I returned my ladies OG and now her battery life is better. Even b4 I rooted it drain was better from prior phone. Could be a batch. That's my lead as well

Does this phone have the ability or need to reset battery stats? I know you couldn't do it, or it was unnecessary on the SGSII. Just curious if it's a calibration issue.

Resetting battery stats actually has no correlation with battery life whatsoever. It is not what controls the percentage that we see in screen. I believe it just tracks what apps or system files are or have been using up the battery. Battery stats gets an automatic reset whenever you reboot anyways.
For those with bad battery drain, just try and see what your serial numbers are n post it here to compare.

The battery life on my phone and seemingly most folks is great. Granted some folks probably live on the cusp of LTE coverage in their area and the radio is killing the battery while liking for signal (that happened to me with my EVO 4G).
If it were all devices, then only the battery life fanatics who shut down everything would be seeing 20hrs on a charge.
I think there's a bad batch of hardware or there.

seems odd that those who are having the issue are not likely to make to 10hrs on a charge (often 1/2 that)...while others are bumping 20hrs (myself included).
i have 4 emails on constant sync, as well as, facebook, weather, xda and a chess. each day has a couple hours of screen time. 1hr each day of either Pandora or Audible. 20-50 text and @45min - 1hr of phone time. ... in case you think i put my phone in my pocket and forget about it.
granted, i do connect to wifi at home and work. and i live in an area where i have solid LTE coverage at all times.

We got ours off the box. Not sure where you'd get it in the phone.
Did a little more research. Set them side by side for an hour with screens at same brightness, always on, with Nexus live wallpaper running. Both were hooked into wifi and the microcell. Battery usage over a 1 hour period was pretty much identical (within 1%). Then did some web browsing and hit all the same links and drain was the same. We thought it maybe was just battery conditioning. When I first got it I did 2 full drains and recharges with it off. He did that about a week in and thought it was fixed.
I left and a couple hours later his battery started to tank. Only thing we noticed was his accelerometer hung for some reason and had 5 hours on. He hadn't used anything that should have turned it on so no idea why it got stuck. Turned it off and the battery usage slowed to what one would expect. Then it had another couple minute burst of dropping. that was the last I heard.

Bad Battery Drain, HELP!

I've had the HTC One X+ for a week now and it's a really good phone, however, the battery really lets it down. The battery drain is terrible on my phone. The phone is really good in sleep mode, only losing about 2% in 1 hour, but as soon as it's not in sleep mode, as soon as you start to use the phone, the battery drains like hell. For example, when I'm web surfing or using applications, it loses 1% like every 2 minutes and that's crazy!
I don't know why, power saver is on, switched to 2G instead of 3G, disabled Google Now, auto-sync, basically everything I think would drain the battery. Brightness is on it's minimum. I feel so restricted when using my phone! But I've read other people having really good battery life even with moderate use, so am I doing something wrong? Should I factory reset my phone? Is there something wrong with my phone? Can someone help me?
Thanks!!
Have you disabled all AT&T apps? They drain battery as hell especially ATT locker.

Under Settings/Sounds/Ring Tone untick the three options as they just have the sensors constantly checking, then under Settings/Power untick Fastboot.
Then get a battery monitor app like GSam Battery Monitor which pinpoints the power drainer. How many apps do you have installed? Dump the ones you hardly ever use.
Also, several charge/discharge cycles are necessary before battery reaches best performance.

Won't lie i got the same problem you are facing right now. The battery life is horrible, in fact it only lasts about 3-4 hours gaming if i am lucky. Before 5 minutes i opened a game called "dead trigger" my battery was 94% after 5 minutes of playing guess what? BOOM 89% straight which is extremely bad from my point of view.
You know, you do have screen with a high resolution, and you're using the max of the graphic and other chips while gaming...and that costs power...most likely NFC is active, as is BT, 4G, brightness on 200%, the loudspeaker blearing some music out of the cloud, GPS on, and 15 apps not closed properly, weather syncing every 5 secs, and 700 apps installed from Happy Santa to FakeYourPhone!
I really can't get it that you complain about it. It is a mobile smartphone that can be used to play games. If your priority lies with the latter, have a charger handy with you! Play, enjoy, and stop moaning...Period!

Bad Battery Drain as well
I'm going to tack onto this thread. I got the HTC One X+ about a week 1/2 ago. The phone is amazing. It has everything I want, but I cannot make it through the day once without always consciously thinking about battery drain and how quickly the phone just sucks down the power. The following Battery Monitor graph is when I have JuiceDefender installed so it turns off the data radio whenever the screen is off or I'm connected to WiFi. I was on WiFi from 7:45 this morning all the way to 5:00pm. The drain on this thing is so fast. I didn't watch a single video today nor any games. This is all facebook data, internet data, and just some general playing on the phone. I also turn on the power save feature for Jelly bean so I turned off vibration feedback, brightness is turned down, and CPU saving is turned on.
Do I have a dud phone or is the One X+ really that awful on the battery? I'm strongly considering taking it back but every single other thing about the phone is great but if the battery on every One X+ is that bad I don't know if it's worth it. Please help assuage my fears or give me some advice on what I can do better.

I do. I kind of thought it was one of the neater parts of Jelly Bean. Is it a complete battery hog? This is my 1st android phone but I'm a long time Smartphone owner. I'm guessing by your question I should disable it and see how the battery performs.
It is an LTE phone though i'm on wifi 90% of my day. Background apps that run are usually Whatsapp, Facebook, and Linkedin. Right now I'm losing about 2% charge every 10 minutes if I'm using it. I gotta plug the thing in as much as I can just so I can use it. I'm perfectly fine with tweaking the thing, just not sure how much 'tweaking' is needed to get some better performance out of the things.
I'm wondering if Facebook is the problem... Just a thought...
The One X+ isnt that bad in terms of battery life in my experience, I've done 15.5 hours with 2.5 hours screen on time, Not sure what folks are expecting, Thats pretty average for a smartphone... That is with Wi-Fi on, LTE on, Google Now on, Autosync on, the little weather widgety clock thing on.. and pretty much me not doing anything besides closing apps when im done with it, I have Kik messanger and TextPlus on in the background but they arent doing much to my battery life... I dont use the power saver until it toggles at 15% battery life, I have vibration on, and my brightness is fixed at like 33% constantly... I have every ATT app disabled in the app thing.. I also have the "best Wi-Fi performance" thing ticked which says it might use more battery...
Yes, Gaming and watching videos on the thing is going to drain the battery out fast, Just like every smartphone I've ever owned... Its better than my GSM Nexus with the stock battery (Its roughly halfway between the stock battery and the extended one) and better than the S3 I had very briefly (However I will note the S3 couldnt keep a signal at all whereas my One X+ can...) The conversion seems to be that you trade about 2 hours standby time for 30 minutes of screen-on usage in my case
Picture 1 is me using my phone normally in a day.. 15.5 hours is more than enough (I'd say i get closer to 13 or 14 average) with 2.5 hours of screen on time
Picture 2 was me basically doing nothing but watching Youtube and playing games this morning... its really not all that bad, the biggest consumer/ battery hog for me is Mediaserver for some reason, I'm not actually 100% sure why (I know what it is...) or if i could pull even better battery life if there is something actually wrong with it and its draining my battery excessively... But I'm not complaining about it because well.. this was me abusing my phone pretty much
Not arguing that some folks are getting rubbish battery life, Because they are, I'm actually more curious as to whats causing it, There has to be something here and some way to fix it
Follow up to yesterday's battery
Ok in the attachment is my usage today. As you can see it is totally what I would expect from the phone. I got it to that point by disabling Google Now. That kind of stinks however, I can actually use my phone without being nearby an electrical outlet all the time. The other thing that works well is how much cooler it is to the touch under normal use. Normally it was quite hot. I work in a basement(3 bars with LTE) so my guess is Google Now was always trying to utilize location (even if it wasn't immediately obvious) on the screen via the indicator and thus would just kill my battery especially when I would pick it up to use it with the screen. I wish I could use Google Now but perhaps I can slowly bring back some of it's abilities and find a happy medium.
I'd also like to make note that I am still utilizing the power saving features for Jelly Bean along with JuiceDefender.
No offense but I cant read that battery thing you got. I cant see how long you used it or anything, all i can tell is your battery is at 70%...
-edit- i think i might have got it, 7h or so?

Yeah my apologies, the timeline is on the X axis at the bottom. Unplugged at 7am, and at 2:32pm it was above 70%. Pretty drastic difference since normally the last week or so I've been hitting 70% at about 9am.

Sounds more in line with what im getting... Though i have Google Now on... Weird.. Very weird
GSam is a bit nicer and free FYI so you might wanna give it a look
how much playback time should I be getting for 720p mp4 files? My phone drains about 10% every 20 minutes with power save on, auto sync and all wireless radios off and minimum brightness, I am quite disappointed, is this normal drain?
I had to open my big mouth, Now my One X+ has developed a little problem It wont enter Deep Sleep so yeah... now the battery life isnt terribly great
You guys might wanna check that your phone is entering deep sleep and not getting held awake by something, because now im seeing similar drain to you guys...
Very new issue though, Weird... I uninstalled an app I felt might have caused it and ill see if that fixes it, Currently recharging my One X+ to reset the counters and everything...
According to BBM, It appears to be my Wi-Fi keeping the phone awake for some reason... Next step if the uninstallation doesnt fix things will be to disable Wi-Fi and see if that changes anything
