[Q] can you just disable knox? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Can you root using root de le vega, disable knox using methods on http://www.droidviews.com/disable-knox-security-service-on-samsung-galaxy-devices/, install custom recovery, then unfreeze or reinstall knox (or even just leave it disabled). Will this still cause the knox counter to be tripped?

Yes knox will trip on installing new recovery still.

Damn, so knox is more integrated into the system as opposed to just a stand alone app then?

Mr. Smith,
There are basically three things that KNOX checks whenever you start your phone:
Bootloader:
KNOX will check the bootloader and make sure that it is completely stock.
Recovery:
KNOX also checks the Recovery to make sure it's fully stock. Having any type of custom recovery will trip KNOX when you try to boot your phone (even if it's already rooted).
Kernal:
KNOX will check the Kernal to make sure it's not modified in any way. Thankfully, you can have root access without modifying the Kenal, so this isn't an issue in terms of tripping KNOX.
The issue was that the traditional ways of rooting included modifying one (or more) of the three above, so you'd have to trip KNOX in order to obtain Root. Towelroot apparently has found a method that does not utilize the kernal, bootloader, or recovery, so you can now have root access without tripping KNOX. This means you can install SuperSU, wireless tethering apps, and other apps that require root (Titanium Backup, XPosed, etc). This can give you unparalleled control over a stock phone.
If you want to install a custom ROM, you're going to have a much harder time. As of now, there is only one way to install a custom ROM without tripping KNOX. If a ROM developer creates a ROM that uses the stock kernal, you can install a TAR file in ODIN and it shouldn't trip KNOX. The issue with this is that very few dev's are willing to do this, because the kernal restrictions will tie their hands in terms of which mods, etc they can implement in their ROM. It also only appeals to a relatively small subset of XDA users, so it's more difficult to justify the amount of work that it would take. Also, finding someone with a 0x0 phone willing to test a ROM would be a bit difficult.
Anyways, I hope this helps your understanding of what you're getting when you root with towelroot.
Sprint note 3 nc5 I went ahead and did this one click root thing and all went well.

I tired to update via the play store but the SU app there is out of date. Flashable zip on Chainfire website but I have no way to flash it via the standard recovery. I do have SU access thought and have tested Titanium backup. Can anyone make the Zip file into an apk? I usually use root to remove all of the crap-ware that is on the phone.

SU update this morning worked for me as well. I was able to update the binaries. This root method has been near perfect for me!
Sounds like an effective way to root. I've already rooted my GN3 with cf auto root but I might as well try this with my Galaxy s5.
Worked for me! Knox did not trip! Donation coming

Yes it's possible. You can go to the towelroot site on your phone and click the lamda to download the apk file. Then browse to that file on your phone, install and run.
Note: You will need to have install from unknown sources checked. It may prompt during the install to adjust that setting. Otherwise, you may need to do that before.

Glad you got it rooted. I'm still researching the custom rom option because everything I read says that any install of a custom recovery App will trip the knox counter. On my old AT&T S5 with a locked bootloader, I had Safestrap recovery installed which seemed to get around this issue and allow custom roms to be loaded without tripping knox.

I don't mess with cf. Never have, it's too much work when compared to just using odin to install twrp and then flash supersu. Google twrp, get the latest one for our decide, then Google supersu-update.zip and install that with twrp.
This will break your knox warranty btw.

Yes i am using a grand 2 also.
Knox tripper will work with all firmware..even if you don't use the knox tripper provided,it can be done with supersu app also..after you flash the root, when the phone boots, wait for 5 min. then open supersu app,it will ask you to disable knox..select yes and it will be done,if gives error, restart phone and open supersu app again..done.

After King Root, use Super Su Me to remove King root with its slightly alarming permissions and replace with Super SU - worth the small price.

I successfully rooted my A3 (A300FU) with KingRoot then removed and replaced to SuperSU with this method: http://zidroid.com/how-to-get-ride-and-replace-kinguser-with-supersu-app/
We need to slightly modify the script due to different mount points, but after SuperSU installs and updates flawlessly. And the best of it: phone keeps rooted after reboot, and KNOX isn't affected. (0x0)

If you flashed a custom recovery before, then your KNOX is already tripped. If you haven't I suggest to reflash a stock rom from samsung-updates.com or sammobile.com with ODIN. Anyway I dont know if it's possible to apply zip updates via stock recovery, I haven't tried it yet.

Found a way! Using flashfire
I have used Kingroot on my A3 (SM-A300FU) and KNOX flag is 0. If you don't trust on Kinroot (like me) you can remove then.
I have used the second method and works fine: https://www.droidmen.com/remove-replace-kingroot-kinguser-with-supersu
