Hey guys,
Picked up the official s view case today from the sprint store discounted for $40 yea still expensive I know but it adds some functionality to it and it's a really nice quality.
My plan was to add the qi wireless charging to the new case with one of the kits off of eBay or Amazon but I have run into a bit of an issue. The contacts for the wireless charger would connect are already on my s view case. I don't why as it deffinateley doesn't have the wireless charging built in .. already tried it ...... it makes a connection on the device so it knows the case is installed because the s view locks Creek functions don't work unless it's connected.
Reasons I see to have add a wireless charging circuit to this case....
- it's a col feature even with a reduced charge rate.
-the case already is a little thicker so a little Dremel tool grinding and you won't notice it at all.
- increase the longevity of your phone as the USB ports take a beating. If you don't have to plug it in every day to charge the ports won't get word out as quickly.
So my plan is to solder up one of these aftermarket ones to the case and see if it works if not I think I'll have to try and return the case and get the official one with wireless charging built in....

If you look at the picture you can see the ridges where the battery is to take up the space for where the wireless charging circuit would be on the official case.
I will order the qi standard kit today and let you guys know how it works out

It seems like you are saying there is one tooling for S View and S View wireless cases.?
At least most of the case is one tooling the inner plastic piece is slightly different but overall dimensions and thickness between then will be the same as far as I can tell.

your modding plan sounds like a good one, save a few bucks as well
I am hoping so ... The only issue will be is there is some sort of conflict between the chip in the case to communicate witj the phone that the s view case is attached and the qi wireless charging circuit as they use the same contacts to the phone....
Has anyone figured out what all of the other contacts are that are unused on the back of the note 3

Well guys I gave it a go it won't work looks like if you want the combination of wireless charging and s view you have go official. The normal s view cover looses it's functionality when paralleled with a qi standard charging coil.
I will have to go for the $70 s view case with wireless charging built in if I can find one ! lol

still a good try.
Your have Qi charging now but no S-View? could be worse right? At least your screen is protected in the interm from knapsack scratches. And yeah I've been monitoring the availability of S-View Wireless back and charger because when I bought the phone I thought that was the goto accessory but even the regular back and charger are so expensive are sometimes rare. Decided to wait it out with a glas t and bounce. Now I'm liking it. Good grip and extra shock for the screen.
I think with this phone once you use the s view you won't want to go back I really like it.
I removed the qi and my s view functionality came back lol ... So no wireless charging for me until I find the official back somewhere

M8 you need to do something in the QI receiver to allow the pins that qi uses to be able to be reached by sview also, to achieve that you need to put some flat cable or something. Off course sview don't work like this.

I think he just needs to open the qi receiver and have the receiver and the car share the ground connecter point on the phone. Let us know if that works.

Anker also make cradles? find one on ebay, anyone ever tryed this?
oops, no permit to post outside links, see my attachments.
yeah, somebody know where to buy?
Picked one of these up for $14 on Amazon when I purchased 2 Anker 1900mah sensation batteries for my 3D. Works great, can't use a case with this though.
Bonus for me is that it can charge another battery while your phone is docked. I will note I have found using the original HTC cable and HTC usb wall adapter with this works the best. I purchased a 10' cable for my phone, and using that with the Anker cradle didn't really do anything, but the original cable and adapter that come with the phone works flawlessly.

Please do - I'm now very curious since the price has dropped to a reasonable level.
I'm specifically interested in whether dock mode is automatically enabled, and what apps can be run from that configuration.
Also - I doubt it, but I'm curious if an MHL adapter can be connected to the dock to enable HDMI out.

I run MIUI so the dock program isn't installed, however I just tap the clock and it brings it to the picture you can see above. I believe if you're on a Sense ROM it will fire up dock mode. I actually had it plugged into my car, and started up Car Panel which was pretty gangster.
Overall, it's definitely nice to have while I'm at work during the week, but having to pop a case on and off all the time can be a hassle for some.
Otherwise it works great!

This is USB only I'm afraid. Since this is similar to Kidigi dock, Kidigi makes an MHL version of their dock but will run you about $49. You can find them on ebay. Hopefully Anker will rebrand one too for cheaper.

I go back and forth between a Platinum case, these cheap snap on cases from eBay, and some Argyle patterned gel sleeve I got at Radioshack, and none of them work. This dock was meant for a caseless phone. I can't remember what dock I was looking at but there is one that has a removable tray that you can take out to accommodate a phone with a case.

Thank you for the input. I guess I'll just pass on this for now.
Kidigi makes a dock that can be used with some cases.
Just received my 2 Anker docks and they are great for the price. Each kit includes a dock, a wall charger, and 2 USB connectors (one long for power, one not quite as long for computer connection).
Construction is solid and phone fits well. The extra battery charging slot is a little tight, but I'd take that over loose.
Phone does not auto-recognize that it's in a dock, but I didn't expect it to.
All in all, I think well worth the price (~$45 for both and free shipping).

Hey guys figured I would pop in and show you my wireless charging system for the EVO. I did this before with the 3D but now with combination of nfc, tanker and higher quality audio through bluetooth I hope to achieve what I wanted to do with the 3D. Get in the car, set the phone down, it starts to charge and hooks up to my stereo and starts pandora.
Anyways this is the same old wireless charging system out of the palm pre from back in the day just thought I would try it in a tpu case. This one is somewhat transparent and I will more than likely change to a different case at some point but I had this.

The PALM Touchstone charging kit. You need the base and the phone shell. The 4 magnets and the copper doughnut looking thing need to go in your new phone. Either rig up a micro usb connector or you have to solder the 2 leads to your mainboard in the phone.
What did you use to etch the case so that the wireloop and board would fit flush?
That's pretty awesome. You could clean that up a little and name your price and probably quit your job!

Cool, nice work!
]Yes it is the palm touchstone and back case which you can find pretty cheap. Ill find a link and put it in the OP
Powermat did cases like this in the past for other phones but the problem is there always has to be a bulge where the plug is for mass production you cant modify the standard micro usb cable to give it the nice flush look like I did. You can see in the picture that it doesn't stick out past the case at all. When i did this last time on my evo3d i used an otterbox commuter case which is opaque and has a rubber cover for the usb port so you could not even tell that the wireless charging system was even there
I used a dremel tool to remove the material from the case to get everything to sit nice and flush

Updated OP with info about the NFC car dock with wireless charging that I am making.
How fast does this method charge?
Ahh that depends in order to get the htc phones to charge at the "AC" rate you need to short the d+ and d- pins together in either the cable or the charger. Or you need to have something like the "force AC toggle widget for root".... although you need a kernel that supports that feature.
I did not make my plug with the two shorted pins because I messed one up while trying it and wanted to get one working. But I did test it to see if the hardware can take the full charge rate and it does handle the full ac charge rate ( tested with the cable mocked up and plugged in to the phone with d+ and d- shorted)

Gotcha... I thought it might (Palm Pre didn't have a compass because of that). I wonder where the compass is located in our Evo, and if the magnets could be placed far enough away to not affect it.

You are my hero
I was probably the 2nd person to do it on the original evo. But it was pretty easy on that one. Ran that sucker right up to a few weeks ago when I got the lte. All the times I dropped it and the back cover and battery popped out, I'm amazed my solid (not stranded) wires never broke and needed to be re-done.
I hate cases, but you make a compelling case, and a compelling case for cases, in this case.
I have to say though that as much as I hate the ugly oversized boat shaped official car dock, It's *such* a relief that my phone no longer flies like a projectile right off the touchstone every time I step on it or hit a bump or let off the clutch etc, and it would usually dive right between the seat and drive train tunnel like it was a guided missile aiming itself. A 300hp turbo manual Saturn Sky Redline is just too violent for a heavy phone with extended battery only held in place by those magnets.
I got some strong magnets to try to make a stronger custom base but never got around to doing it. My idea was to hide the charger inside the dash, so there would be an invisible magic charger spot on the dash. Nothing showing on the outside, but the phone would stick to one spot. How sweet would that be!?

How did you make the USB port part? You said you "cant modify the standard micro usb cable". I see in the first post you had a USB end and in the last photos the cable looks like it is made in to the port on the phone or maybe it is the way the photo was taking.
I did find this on Amazon Powermat Receiver Door for HTC EVO 4G and was think about getting it and using the usb part.(Would put a link but need more post)
Hi guys,
I'm reposting this because I accidentally posted on general Note II forum, not Verizon specific...
I just got done modding my Note 2 to do wireless charging and I'm extremely happy about it!
It is super easy and simple. Unscrew the back, solder copper tapes on the terminals that already exist.
It would have taken me 5 minutes if I had a good soldering iron... Mine sucked really bad (the tip wouldn't heat up right) so it took more like 10 minutes.
Here is a Youtube link to a nice tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDSyjl_2CXo
Here is a cheap wireless tag + charger for Note 2 from China for $50. Took 2 weeks to get here. (Cheapest I could find for both coil and charger) It works great. Charging distance is 5mm and output is 1000mA. Not fast but good enough.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/170995097433?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
When you get the wireless tag you just need to heat up the terminals and take them off. You can leave the terminals on, but it's pretty thick, adds about 1-2mm of thickness so you'll need to buy a bigger cover to use it without taking them off. Tutorial here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5bnenaI86I&feature=youtu.be
The wireless tag adds very slight bulk, maybe a slight curve where it bulges out the most, but the regular backing will close and it's barely noticeable. Especially since I use my Note II in a case I won't ever see it. It may bug some people that don't use any case or cover.

Here is my Note II charging.
I found that wireless charging on a flat surface was actually too big of a hassle... I had to position it right and trying to operate the phone while charging was difficult because it would slide off. If you're not going to use it this way (make a docking station or something) I say it's not worth it...
This was what I had in mind when I did the mod, to have it in a stand. I had a Belkin Flipblade stand, so I put the charging plate there and now all I need to do is slip the phone in it. (I had to attach some stuff in front to keep the Note from sliding off the stand as you can see)
This notification pops up every time I put the Note on the charger. I'd like to get rid of this notification but I don't know how... No big deal, though.
Also another thing is, keeping the screen on while charging option doesn't work with wireless charging. I had to download Tasker to do the job.
Anyway just wanted to show off..
I did this mod months ago and ended up with a device that wouldn't deep sleep. Obviously my error.
Have you run into any issues like that?

If you chose to go that route, I would give consideration to the fact that the contacts will have to be "raised" slightly because theres maybe 3mm between the motherboard and where the qi charging pad would sit.
IMO its easier to solder copper tape to the motherboard and fold it over the current middle housing you have, as seen in the video.

I ordered one of these things from a different site too.
Only after I ordered did I realise that it probably won't play nice with a case, unlike the DK30 which has the removable insert.
I think the other port could be a pass through. It looks like it takes a micro USB input and has a USB output port.

Yeah.. I was disappointed when the dock arrived today. The problem is that the magnetic connector isn't secured. It keeps moving around. I broke 1 of the 2 clips holding the magnetic connector while I was playing around with it. However I found a solution.... I just super glued the entire fitting under the insert together so it doesn't move around. Then put the insert back. Now it doesn't move and I get a secure connection each time.

bummer - was hoping it was going to be better. I guess for the price and after the superglue fix its ok. Can't really justify paying $50 for the official DX30.
btw did you work out what the USB port on the back does?
I agree I cannot justify $50 either. But it's not bad after the fix. I have not played around with the USB port yet.

my wife was able to get it to stick by keeping a paper sheet behind the phone while sticking it in the dock
Just thought I'd share a bit in case anyone's wondering what's inside here.
I tore mine apart cause I was curious why I was only reading 0.5V on the terminals (Phone wouldn't connect after trying numerous times) So I decided to see what was inside.
The four screws on the back are under the rubber feet, and it appears all of them were stripped out at the factory due to metal shavings all over the adhesive on the backs of the pads, and the lack of a proper slot on the head.
After removing those, it appears that the connector sits on a hinge piece inside to allow it to move up and down while accommodating the phone in the slot. Unfortunately, the connector attaches with a slot and couple clips, which are fairly weak. On the plus side, there is a rounded holder on the back itself which keeps the plug from being forced too far down inside (hopefully)
The circuit board is very simple, and comes out with 3 screws, one hidden under the rubber square on the board.
There really isn't much there, it appears that the USB port is simply to power a second device. I tested it and power is indeed coming out of that port. I tested it with my laptop and it does not appear that it passes data through that port to the microUSB, so it is a power-only connector. There is also a small fuse on the board.
I reassembled my unit and it has the proper voltage on the terminals, perhaps a loose connection somewhere inside the connector was to blame. It works but does require accurate alignment, no throwing the phone on the dock and expecting it to charge, which is fairly inconvenient. The idea of the mag connector is to be faster and easier than popping a door open and plugging USB in, but here it takes me just as long. Maybe removing the surrounds on the power pins would help, but that would expose it to shorts, so not sure how good of an idea that is.
Anyway, for $14, it works, and seems to charge. If you need a dock, and you don't have the money for the Sony official, this one gets the job done, mostly.

Certain ones came with a dock, some of the first few that came out. Later ones produced only came with a cheap folio-style case.
Oh ok thanks for the info, i guess i was lucky this time :victory:
I purchased a OEM back without any NFC or qi and a white OEM back with the NFC and qi. I'm going to remove it and make it work on the black one since I have a black G3. Both back covers will be here by Saturday so I will post pictures as I go. It may not be the cheapest or most effective way to get qi charging but it will get the job done. I just hate the ATT back with the death star on the back and I wanted to get a new one so I figured why not get qi as well.
(Pictures and walkthrough coming soon)
Let me know if anyone has suggestions or has tried this already.

Where did you buy it? I just did a cursory search on Amazon with no luck. I'm looking for some way to get QI charging without having to go the AT&T powermat quicksilver case route (what the hell were they thinking going powermat).
Yes I have done this. Ripped off the coil from the quick circle case and stuck unto my Korean back that didn't have wireless charging. Works great!

I purchased them both off ebay. It wasn't cheap as a I said 27.99 for the black back cover w/o nfc or qi ( I just hate the carrier logo) and $40 for the NFC/Qi back cover in white. Both are USA sellers which is good.
Here are the links

I'm glad, was it hard to remove? Any recommendations for when I take it apart?

I just ordered what I think is an OEM back from eBay and was planning on pulling the coil and putting in my AT&T back. How easy was it to pull? Did you have to heat it up? Any advice?
I'm a bit of a bull in the China shop and have no subtlety at all and it still worked out fine as the sticker sticks quite well. I used tweezers to remove it and then removed the one from the original with tweezers. Then stuck it on and it looks ok. Let me get a photo of the finished product and I'll post later.

That sounds good I'm sure there will be many people who will do this with the quick circle case.

Ok here's the finished product - the trickiest part was lining up with the phone itself so the charging works.

Thanks for the link!
I just ordered the white one. I'll have to rip it off and transplant it to my black at&t cover like poczynek did -__-
I was looking at the wireless charging thread. Anyone have a confirmed working QI charger for the G3 and amazon/ebay link to it? I'm looking for something I can attach to my magnetic car mount.

Get the ones that have three coils in them e.g. the Tylt Vu. They're more expensive but work well. I'd say the problematic ones are those with only one coil.

I think I'm going to try something similar to this DIY:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...to-make-magnetic-qi-car-charger-dock-t2531754
With a charger like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Qifull-3-coils-Standard-Wireless-Charger/dp/B00IWLSOSE
I'll have to do more research and make a post pending the success of this project lol.

This QI charger works, it's charging my european G3 right now. Very easy to position the phone right for it to pick up the correct spot.

No issues with the single coil? I'm looking forward to making this work, but qi chargers are hit and miss.

Nope, no issue at all. You need to position the phone at exactly the right spot, but as the charger is quite small is easy to find it. Then it charges with no interruption and tells you when it's full.
I will probably be doing exactly the same thing
Possible to buy something like a wireless receiver for LG G3, there are tons of them for Samsung S5,Note 3 etc. That would be easier no?

Would be nice if the seller didn't price gouge the sh*t out of it.
Edit: Also, how do you know it's qi charging?
Did y'all pay the $140 for the oem white nfc+qi from the eBay seller.
