Hi guys,
I'm reposting this because I accidentally posted on general Note II forum, not Verizon specific...
I just got done modding my Note 2 to do wireless charging and I'm extremely happy about it!
It is super easy and simple. Unscrew the back, solder copper tapes on the terminals that already exist.
It would have taken me 5 minutes if I had a good soldering iron... Mine sucked really bad (the tip wouldn't heat up right) so it took more like 10 minutes.
Here is a Youtube link to a nice tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDSyjl_2CXo
Here is a cheap wireless tag + charger for Note 2 from China for $50. Took 2 weeks to get here. (Cheapest I could find for both coil and charger) It works great. Charging distance is 5mm and output is 1000mA. Not fast but good enough.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/170995097433?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
When you get the wireless tag you just need to heat up the terminals and take them off. You can leave the terminals on, but it's pretty thick, adds about 1-2mm of thickness so you'll need to buy a bigger cover to use it without taking them off. Tutorial here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5bnenaI86I&feature=youtu.be
The wireless tag adds very slight bulk, maybe a slight curve where it bulges out the most, but the regular backing will close and it's barely noticeable. Especially since I use my Note II in a case I won't ever see it. It may bug some people that don't use any case or cover.

Here is my Note II charging.
I found that wireless charging on a flat surface was actually too big of a hassle... I had to position it right and trying to operate the phone while charging was difficult because it would slide off. If you're not going to use it this way (make a docking station or something) I say it's not worth it...
This was what I had in mind when I did the mod, to have it in a stand. I had a Belkin Flipblade stand, so I put the charging plate there and now all I need to do is slip the phone in it. (I had to attach some stuff in front to keep the Note from sliding off the stand as you can see)
This notification pops up every time I put the Note on the charger. I'd like to get rid of this notification but I don't know how... No big deal, though.
Also another thing is, keeping the screen on while charging option doesn't work with wireless charging. I had to download Tasker to do the job.
Anyway just wanted to show off..
I did this mod months ago and ended up with a device that wouldn't deep sleep. Obviously my error.
Have you run into any issues like that?
sent from my Note 2
Looks interesting how long have you been using it?
Have you tried downloading this...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.promethyl.batterychargingsourcecurrent
To see what your actual charging current is, I too purchased a 1000 ma tag and used the Nokia qi charging plate however the actual amperage that I get from this set up is only 632 ma. You can also see my post here for more on my setup...

From what i learned won't work with Verizon note because of the ports being covered by secondary housing

More of a general wireless charging question, but I was at the Verizon store today and they had an HTC 8X on a wireless charger on display. I picked it up, and wow that thing was HOT. Is this the case with all wireless chargers?

There's a couple ways to get around that. Either with Copper tape or cutting the housing with a dremel OR replacing our Verizon middle housing with an international versions

They can get warm yes. Most likely the one in the store had been on there for hours though. With it fully charged sitting on the charger I can imagine them getting more than just warm to the touch

If you chose to go that route, I would give consideration to the fact that the contacts will have to be "raised" slightly because theres maybe 3mm between the motherboard and where the qi charging pad would sit.
IMO its easier to solder copper tape to the motherboard and fold it over the current middle housing you have, as seen in the video.
I just dremeled a notch out and its good works perfect...except for some reason it wont actually charge using cm10.1 only if phone is off kinda sucks but watev

I've already gone through 3 different desk docks for the Note so I thought I'd let everyone in on what I've found.
I ordered this dock from Amazon when I preordered the phone amazon.com/GSI-Quality-Desktop-Charger-Data-Sync/dp/B006L9K0P4/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1330122195&sr=8-5
DO NOT GET THIS DOCK, unless you want a night light or to be blinded all day at your desk. The 2 LEDs on the top ends are always on and super bright. Also no landscape or audio out.
On Friday when I got the phone I went to AT&T and bought their desk dock (the small portrait one in the attached pics).
It works just fine, if you have a super slim case you might be able to leave it on while in the dock, it also has a preamp audio out if you want to connect to a stereo.
I just got this dock amazon.com/Hyperion-Samsung-Battery-Compatible-Packaging/dp/B006QBKTCG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1330122195&sr=8-2 in the mail from Amazon and I think its what I've been looking for.
It won't hold your phone if you have a case on it and there is no audio out, but it will do portrait and landscape. There are no LEDs, it will charge a second battery, and it can do charging and connecting to your computer.
I also really like the snug fit and the cutouts for the volume rocker and speaker, depending on if you are in portrait or landscape.
Anyways just wanted to throw in my .02c and maybe help someone else make a decision on what dock to get. If you have any questions or want to see any other pics let me know.
I have the 2nd dock you have listed, got it from spiderfoot. It does have a tiny led that is very dim when charging the extra battery.
I'm really happy with it I just wish that my phone fit with the case on. Im thinking of modifying it slightly with a dremel

On the first dock, does it fit with a case on? I have the speck case, and I hope that it'll fit.

I just got that first dock in the mail today. I don't have a case but the fit is tight. I really doubt it will work with a case. So open carefully in case you need to return.
As far as the LED light, nothing a piece of electrical tape couldn't fix. Pretty good deal for 15 bucks and prime shipping in one day!
Edit: Looking again there is some daylight between the phone and the dock. A really thin case might fit!
Staying hopeful! The speck is pretty thin, but it's kind of hard, so I'm not sure if there's much room for play with it. I purchased one yesterday, and for $15, I can live with taking the case off every so often

Have you modified your dock yet? If so, do you have any pointers before I start cutting into it? I realize it's not rocket science but sometimes after you get done with a small project you realize you should've went about it in a different way.

You do know that this case is not made for the I717. It does not include the antenna and it does not snap into place correctly. You will have to take five minutes and use a file to correct the tabs. It will fit decent then, but not perfectly. Not sure what the antenna is for. I don't have LTE if that is what it is for so no biggy to me.
Then you can go one step further and get the Hyperion honeycomb TPU extended battery case which fits this battery door perfectly. And if the battery door is a little loose this case will hold everything together perfectly. http://www.amazon.com/Hyperion-Extended-HoneyComb-Compatible-International/dp/B007R5I8KA
With that case it is only slightly more bulky than my Seidio case was. Best thing I can still use this combination with my Seidio holster.
Just got mine today and it is still on the charger. I can't wait to put it to the test later.
This is a great deal. And you can't go wrong if you don't need the antenna and you can make the case fit yourself.
Antenna is for NFC, not LTE.

On the site? They list:
Manufacturer Generic
Battery Type LiION
Battery Capacity 5000 mAh 3.7v
Product Condition New
Color Black
Compatibility GT-i9220 Galaxy Note, SGH-i717 Galaxy Note, GT-n7000 Galaxy Note,
I already stated in second post that the battery door will not fit the I717. You will have to make modifications. And the hyperion case will only fit that battery door which is supposed to be only for the n7000. But after you make the battery door fit the case fits perfectly.
@jpeg42....thanks for the info. Actually just found that out and was coming back to report it. Doesn't matter as I don't need NFC either.

There are no other covers/cases available to form fit this extended back other than a cheap leather looking belt case or the hyperion noneycomb TPU case mentioned above.
I also wanted to add that if you're like me and have a white Note, there are color cases, too. I'm snagging the white one. It's a couple bucks more expensive, but for me it's worth it not to have another black phone.
I can't post the link because I'm new here (just got my first Android phone 3 days ago--this Note), but the Amazon product number is B007R661H6.
They call come up if you search for "Hyperion Samsung Galaxy Note Extended Battery HoneyComb TPU Case" on Amazon and have the same "not compatible" blah blah blah info the black one does.
I have a SZLF bumper case... it will work with all backs. There is a cheaper verson of it from Amazon.

LTE has nothing to do with the back. the back is only for NFC.
I ordered this one. I have the other one (listed in the other thread) but they sent me a back that doesn't fit, the replacement back doesn't fit...if the back isn't going to be PERFECT...well, I'd rather have paid $7 for it than $20...and at least this version has a case that will work with it.

Its the bump that's just for the battery its kinda disappointing because i was hoping for the full curve but it doesn't bother me and the back has all the nubs in the right place but the bottom right and the nub at the very bottom of the right side don't stay snapped in

I got mine in today, and it was not the battery listed. The case for the back was not uniformly thicker--just around the battery itself. I didn't particularly want that kind, as I wanted the whole device to be wider. This was a trial-run to see if the Mugen battery was worth it.
In addition, it isn't the battery pictured on the website. The battery itself says it is only for the i9220.
A bit disappointing, but I m only out 7 bucks.

Hey guys figured I would pop in and show you my wireless charging system for the EVO. I did this before with the 3D but now with combination of nfc, tanker and higher quality audio through bluetooth I hope to achieve what I wanted to do with the 3D. Get in the car, set the phone down, it starts to charge and hooks up to my stereo and starts pandora.
Anyways this is the same old wireless charging system out of the palm pre from back in the day just thought I would try it in a tpu case. This one is somewhat transparent and I will more than likely change to a different case at some point but I had this.

The PALM Touchstone charging kit. You need the base and the phone shell. The 4 magnets and the copper doughnut looking thing need to go in your new phone. Either rig up a micro usb connector or you have to solder the 2 leads to your mainboard in the phone.
What did you use to etch the case so that the wireloop and board would fit flush?
That's pretty awesome. You could clean that up a little and name your price and probably quit your job!

Cool, nice work!
]Yes it is the palm touchstone and back case which you can find pretty cheap. Ill find a link and put it in the OP
Powermat did cases like this in the past for other phones but the problem is there always has to be a bulge where the plug is for mass production you cant modify the standard micro usb cable to give it the nice flush look like I did. You can see in the picture that it doesn't stick out past the case at all. When i did this last time on my evo3d i used an otterbox commuter case which is opaque and has a rubber cover for the usb port so you could not even tell that the wireless charging system was even there
I used a dremel tool to remove the material from the case to get everything to sit nice and flush

Updated OP with info about the NFC car dock with wireless charging that I am making.
How fast does this method charge?
Ahh that depends in order to get the htc phones to charge at the "AC" rate you need to short the d+ and d- pins together in either the cable or the charger. Or you need to have something like the "force AC toggle widget for root".... although you need a kernel that supports that feature.
I did not make my plug with the two shorted pins because I messed one up while trying it and wanted to get one working. But I did test it to see if the hardware can take the full charge rate and it does handle the full ac charge rate ( tested with the cable mocked up and plugged in to the phone with d+ and d- shorted)

Gotcha... I thought it might (Palm Pre didn't have a compass because of that). I wonder where the compass is located in our Evo, and if the magnets could be placed far enough away to not affect it.

You are my hero
I was probably the 2nd person to do it on the original evo. But it was pretty easy on that one. Ran that sucker right up to a few weeks ago when I got the lte. All the times I dropped it and the back cover and battery popped out, I'm amazed my solid (not stranded) wires never broke and needed to be re-done.
I hate cases, but you make a compelling case, and a compelling case for cases, in this case.
I have to say though that as much as I hate the ugly oversized boat shaped official car dock, It's *such* a relief that my phone no longer flies like a projectile right off the touchstone every time I step on it or hit a bump or let off the clutch etc, and it would usually dive right between the seat and drive train tunnel like it was a guided missile aiming itself. A 300hp turbo manual Saturn Sky Redline is just too violent for a heavy phone with extended battery only held in place by those magnets.
I got some strong magnets to try to make a stronger custom base but never got around to doing it. My idea was to hide the charger inside the dash, so there would be an invisible magic charger spot on the dash. Nothing showing on the outside, but the phone would stick to one spot. How sweet would that be!?

I like the hidden charger idea but i took a different approach i even decided to skip the sticky pad idea from before ..... check out the pictures this works very well for me and the tpu case seams to help it stay in place..
Im short 80 hp to be able to shake it loose lol ..... 220hp turbo manual VW Jetta

Can you show me what the inside of your case looks like? I think I have the same case and want to see how you put the charger into it?
Thanks
I'll take some pictures when I get home I ordered another palm touchstone kit to.get the charger base to use in my car and I'm gonna make a New case with it so ill take some detailed pictures as I go
How did you make the USB port part? You said you "cant modify the standard micro usb cable". I see in the first post you had a USB end and in the last photos the cable looks like it is made in to the port on the phone or maybe it is the way the photo was taking.
I did find this on Amazon Powermat Receiver Door for HTC EVO 4G and was think about getting it and using the usb part.(Would put a link but need more post)

It looks kinda cool, but once I started reading I lost faith...
"This product is suitable for Samsung Galaxy Note. In addition to being a super battery life of portable back-up battery pack, you can also be used as the Samsung Galaxy Note protective cover, bring to your iPad strong momentum and excellent console protection."
Looks good if you buy it post a review I'm curious to know if its good or not.

Im confused. Do you have to already own the ipad or does it come with one? If it doesn't come with one can I use the "strong momentum and excellent console protection" on a different device, or perhaps other non-related items such as my cat?
I think I might buy that. Slimmer than the mugen, and it doubles as a portable charger or extender for 35 bucks.
I see one problem with it though, can't take the stylus out with the phone in it.

Actuall i think you can. If you look at the corner there appears to be a gap there. I bet thats an opening to access the s-pen. I went with the super thick super cheap extended battery. $8 for a batter that lasts me a couple days is nice. If you, or anyone else for that matter, gets this please take some pictures for us so we know what we're dealing with in thickness and effectivness. And and let me know if it helps you ipad out any.

I dunno, if you look at picture 4 and 7, it shows the word "IN". 4 looks like where the stylus would be, but on picture 7 its the same spot on the phone just flipped and it shows the USB port for charging it.
Looks like a good alternative for $35. Total charge capacity would be 5500 mAh, assuming all 3000 mAh of the Brando battery can be transferred to the phone. That would be about the same as the Mugen 5400 mAh extended battery.

Ahah...im pretty sure those photos were added or my browser choked and didnt load them last time as I only saw the first photo, and thats why i asked for more pics. I like that it has a kick stand and isnt too thick. I may get one when the price comes down some and if the reviews indicate they are worth buying.

also this sounds like a real PITA:
* Please Charge the Battery Case before Usage.
* Please Charge the Battery Case and Samsung Galaxy Note Separately. (Do Not Charge the Battery Case and Samsung Galaxy NoteAt the Same Time)

It's not a passthrough, so the placement doesnt matter much. The thickness will prevent it from being used it most/all docks. According to the site you must take this off the phone in order to charge it or the phone. I do tons of supplemental charging on and off through the day that this is absurd and out of the question for me. But if you find yourself only charging at night only then this is not likely to be a big issue for you, only you will need to have a second charger at your night stand to charge them both.
see i plug mine in a lot through the day as well... would be nice to see one with pass though charging as well.
Looks cool but I think it would add to much weight and bulk.
not for At&t i717 note?!?
I think the pic is of the unbranded note and it is different enough to not fit at&t model.
I purchased a miikey external 5200 mah(? Not sure of #, but close) and it is like having 3 extra batteries without turning off phone to change out.
cost was: orig. $89.95, i hit a nice sale and got it for $50.oo purchased at at&t store in central nj!
the only thing it is not good for is if you need power when connected to a pc.
my original battery either needs calibration after rooting or i have a defective battery. so, i use this till i can figure out what is going on. prolly needs calibration.
Hey guys,
Picked up the official s view case today from the sprint store discounted for $40 yea still expensive I know but it adds some functionality to it and it's a really nice quality.
My plan was to add the qi wireless charging to the new case with one of the kits off of eBay or Amazon but I have run into a bit of an issue. The contacts for the wireless charger would connect are already on my s view case. I don't why as it deffinateley doesn't have the wireless charging built in .. already tried it ...... it makes a connection on the device so it knows the case is installed because the s view locks Creek functions don't work unless it's connected.
Reasons I see to have add a wireless charging circuit to this case....
- it's a col feature even with a reduced charge rate.
-the case already is a little thicker so a little Dremel tool grinding and you won't notice it at all.
- increase the longevity of your phone as the USB ports take a beating. If you don't have to plug it in every day to charge the ports won't get word out as quickly.
So my plan is to solder up one of these aftermarket ones to the case and see if it works if not I think I'll have to try and return the case and get the official one with wireless charging built in....

If you look at the picture you can see the ridges where the battery is to take up the space for where the wireless charging circuit would be on the official case.
I will order the qi standard kit today and let you guys know how it works out

It seems like you are saying there is one tooling for S View and S View wireless cases.?
At least most of the case is one tooling the inner plastic piece is slightly different but overall dimensions and thickness between then will be the same as far as I can tell.

your modding plan sounds like a good one, save a few bucks as well
I am hoping so ... The only issue will be is there is some sort of conflict between the chip in the case to communicate witj the phone that the s view case is attached and the qi wireless charging circuit as they use the same contacts to the phone....
Has anyone figured out what all of the other contacts are that are unused on the back of the note 3

Well guys I gave it a go it won't work looks like if you want the combination of wireless charging and s view you have go official. The normal s view cover looses it's functionality when paralleled with a qi standard charging coil.
I will have to go for the $70 s view case with wireless charging built in if I can find one ! lol

still a good try.
Your have Qi charging now but no S-View? could be worse right? At least your screen is protected in the interm from knapsack scratches. And yeah I've been monitoring the availability of S-View Wireless back and charger because when I bought the phone I thought that was the goto accessory but even the regular back and charger are so expensive are sometimes rare. Decided to wait it out with a glas t and bounce. Now I'm liking it. Good grip and extra shock for the screen.
I think with this phone once you use the s view you won't want to go back I really like it.
I removed the qi and my s view functionality came back lol ... So no wireless charging for me until I find the official back somewhere

M8 you need to do something in the QI receiver to allow the pins that qi uses to be able to be reached by sview also, to achieve that you need to put some flat cable or something. Off course sview don't work like this.

I think he just needs to open the qi receiver and have the receiver and the car share the ground connecter point on the phone. Let us know if that works.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 S-View Wireless Charging Cover
Looks like someone else had success with it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2478592&page=4
I returned my S-view case on my 14th day of return policy, because I don't use the features on it and I already ordered a QI adaptor. Until the QI-enabled S-view cover comes out, I'll stick with my carbon fiber back and qi receiver coil.
and I want RDIO support for the music controls!! (or at least google play?!?:fingers-crossed
