[Q] Formatting SD card in 4.3.1 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. Moved over to the 4.3.1 version of LiquidSmooth. Can't figure out how to format my SD card though. Only get the option to unmount it? I can't even format it in Windows like I have been able to previously.
Can anyone help please?

[Q] Unable to read SD card in ROM

Hey,
I'm unable to access the SD card via any form once im booted into the ROM.
I can view the SD card in CMW and read from it.
The SD card is accessible via a USB cable when unmounted.
I have flashed the phone with several different ROMs.
I have formatted the SD card
I have tried different SD card
All have the same result, unable access when in the ROM.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Any idea on how to troubleshoot further or ideally, anyone know a fix?
Hope you can help!
Cheers,
Will

Apologies, Currently I'm using CM7, however i have attempted to use Aura and Gingerblur with the same result.
i too am having the same issue. i am on whatever teh official .91 is. phone is unlocked/rooted. no special rom here yet. about to flash ninja .04.....
just curious if there is any fix out there that tells the phone to use it....
no one else experiencing this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated..
some more info, if I attempt to mount SD card in CM recovery I get the following error:

The external SD card in CM7 is at mnt/emmc not mnt/sd-ext.

MIUI problem - SD Card Safe to Remove

Hey all,
I was just wondering whether there is a fix for such error running on the latest MIUI build from their website. Whenever I turn on my phone, I would receive this message saying Preparing SD card, then it would jump into SD Card Safe to Remove. The phone cannot mount the SD card manually from Settings as the same thing will happen again. I am sure the memory card is not corrupt as both the internal SD card (16gb) and my external SD card (32gb) are both recognized in CWM recovery, although when selecting install from internal SDcard from recovery, it goes into the external.
Hope someone knows how to resolve this issue!
Thanks,
Nicholas

If you got the rom from their site then your best bet would be to ask on their site. No MIUI development is done here. Only translations

mmmm alright thanks (Y)
But just for other people, they released a fixed version of the ROM on the MIUI main site, not the MIUI.us site, that fixed my problem

[Q] Help needed! Can not mount internal or exteral sd after ics flashed

I flashed few different ics roms, but none of them could recognize internal or external sd card, when I use file expert, it shows me sd card in 0, and I even could not open storage option in settings, it just kicked me back to the home screen. When I flashed back to 2.3.6 roms, both internal and external sd card came back. Is there anyone else has this strange problem too, and how to fix it?
Great appreciated if someone can give a little bit help!
Looks I am the only one has this problem, anyone know how to fix this?
Did you wipe when flashing?
Have you tried to format your internal storage in recovery?
May be you did something wrong? On 3 different roms have same issue, strange. After install new rom, when phone will boot for first time, go back in recovery do a factory reset. Also I suggest you to go in recovery and format you storage

Nope that didn't work, rebooted after install then in to recovery - only seeing internal memory - NOT sd card
I had that problem as well. I use a 64Gb formated with ExFat. What i did was as follows.
I copied all data from the sd card to a pc. Then i formated the sd Card with Exfat again on the PC and copied all data back.
After that it was working without problems again.

I shall give this a try.
In the meantime, has anyone else got a solution or reason this happened?
Don't use exFat. It's a horribly hacked filesystem with even worse implementation under Linux (read: Android) due to it's very low acceptance.
If you want something more advanced than FAT32, use the much more sophisticated and reliable NTFS (requires an aftermarket kernel) or the Linux-native EXT4 filesystem which is also used on the internal storage.
Using Fat64 is just asking for trouble

Well I tried the above solutions & still no joy - Recovery not seeing SD card.
Solution....??????????????

Try manually mounting it through ADB shell when in the recovery. Please report any issues back here

I get an "error mounting external storage"
Looks like this has got everyone stumpted.
So I tried a 32gb card & it's just the same - SD card not showing in CWM.
As no one seems to be able to help, perhaps other that have got this problem can chip in?
Ta
Try changing your CF Root version .

It's ok guys I have found out what the problem was & how to fix it - I can see my SD card with CWM now.

[Q] SD card not recognized

Okay, so I'm currently on the SnowJB ROM and that ROM can access my SD card. But I want to go back to the Nocturnal ROM(I'm kind of torn between the two ROMS). Only problem is Nocturnal cannot mount the SD card. I tried both version 1.5 and 1.3 and neither of them work. I went into the settings and clicked "Mount SD card" but I get a notification telling me that it's safe to remove my SD care(Unmounted)
And I also tried to install the Slick ROM and that couldn't read the SD card either. So I restored my SnowJB ROM and it can read it. So I'm totally clueless on this. SnowJB is the only ROM that can mount the SD card... Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Any help at all would be much appreciated.
How is it formatted? Did you format it in the snowjb ROM?

I don't remember doing anything to it while I was on SnowJB. It just... Worked. It was formatted in the FAT32 format. Now formatting it using exFAT. Doubt it'll work, but it's worth the shot. Just got done trying the Stock AT&T rom(with root) and that wouldn't recognize the SD card either.

Fixed it... It was a pain though. Had to use the LGNPST thing to return my phone to factory settings(no root/locked bootloader) then had to re-root.
