My friend hard-bricked his Galaxy S III while flashing a custom rom. At this point, it is completely unresponsive, and the LED does not light up under any circumstances.
I found a couple of guides on this website that appear pretty legit, but I'd need a debrick file for the international (european) version. However, I have thus far not been able to find one. I have another friend with a similar, working phone, and I could try getting it from his (as I understand it), but I am in doubt whether it would actually do anything - is it SDS, and will need a new motherboard, or can it be fixed with software?
I'd really appreciate any kind of help!
Thanks very much in advance.
Hey
Why dont u try a usb jig?? Just Google it..
If that doesn't work try jtag ( if u have sone experience with repairs ONLY!! )

Its just impossible to brick two phones one after another just by using ODIN and official ROM, I have flashed my Galaxy S and my brothers Galaxy S many many many times without issues. Is it possible that many Galaxy ACE are just broken ?
mine was bricked too.
but i dont think because of hadware defect or anything. its because of me.
from the day i bought it, it was heavily abused by me, flashing almost all day. because i'm also developing kernel, that also means i had to reflash countless of time after recompile.
lastly after almost a year got abused like that it decided to bricked on its own.
point is, bricking because hardware defect is rare. most cause of bricking is us, the user itself, not the phone.
broken ops?
history was that my sisters ACE got bricked by flashing (ODIN), samsung replaced motherboard and then i flashed it second time - all went fine, then my uncle saw my sisters modded rom - he saw performance boost and asked me to make his - so i used same identical files: ops, odin, rom from before ! so i can exclude broken OPS
This cant be lottery, its something BROKEN inside phone...

ROM's package might be incomplete or broken

if something is broken in the fone, he cant even use him fone before flashing.
so u can exclude broken hardware
there could be a system partition that isn't used normally, and after time it gets data retention loss, when flashing it goes bizarre and destroys itself thats my idea i have no other it is a phones fault maybe not broken but really low quality in some cases - ask yourself: why samsung is replacing motherboards ? they have stuff to check any hardware issues and probably they could flash it directly to the memory...
there are many posts around forums that ACE cant connect to PC to show its SD card, from what i saw it have really slow internal memory much slower then my cheap Chinese tablet
Unsolder those (messy) bga memory/flash, jtag (dunno pin connection, under sim card maybe ?).
But faulty hw got you unlucky ones bcause modern electronic mfg employed six sigma with permillion opportunity with defect. Thats warranty usefull for, imho sent back to samsung are wise and economically efficient, than I mention above.
Hey guys,
So I have hardbricked my Galaxy S3. This is solely my fault as I was being dumb (even though I want to blame it on staying up so late at night) and did not check to see what GS3 version the ROM I flashed was for. Turns out it was international and now my phone is a sitting brick.
The only observations that I have made is that my computers recognize the phone almost like any other device. I have installed the correct drivers and tried to use 2 computers (1 with Kies, 1 w/o) with no luck of fixing it. However, both computers recognize it as QHSUSB_DLOAD under Device Manager and create that faulty driver installed sound when plugged in. When I plug the phone in with the battery out, its LED turns red and will stay like that unless I try to turn it on with the power button. When I do try, my computers seen to recognize some sort of change with its connection the phone.
I spent all afternoon yesterday making a homemade jig with 3 100k resistors in a series soldered into pins 4 and 5 of a microusb connector which I then connected to the phone with no avail
I was hoping to make this thread to see who else has this problem and different observations and solutions. Does anyone know if a jig bought from a 3rd party will work? I do not necessarily want to take the steps to return/exchange the phone.
Thanks in advance.
Well I ended up calling Samsung and getting them to check it out. I didn't want to do it this way, but I'm basically left with no choice. I read that galaxy s2 owners who bricked also sent theirs in and received it without any problems. Samsung paid for 2nd day air both ways. Let's hope for the best.
From what I've read in other threads....when you get the QHSUSB_DLOAD...that's hardbricked. Mind sharing what you told Samsung what you did? I'm curious to see if they'll fix it....please update what happens. Oh and sorry for your loss.
and for future losses, if any, check this out.... http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-jtag-brick-repair/#reviews

There is a "how to" in the android development section for helping reverse a brick from flashing international gsm rom.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda premium
the how to doesnt apply here
It's only for flashIng a bad boot.img. in this state it's like hardware w/o any software. I think Samsung has to wipe it clean to fix it so the old "it just wouldn't turn on" should do.. and the jig is no good in this situation either f.y.i
Hi,
My S3 bricked by itself I'm not sure of the reason. I was charging it yesterday and woke up today to find it bricked.
The device is rooted and I was using Supernexus ROM. The screen is black and it won't charge nor power on.
I can't even enter the download mode. Seems like a hardware fault.
I tried changing the battery and still it won't start.
A friend of mine experienced exactly the same situation.
3 of S3 owners experienced the same situation as well. They were in the same store that I've gone to to get my device repaired.
Seems like S3 GT-i9300 suffers from factory fault that bricks devices after a certain time
Anyone experienced the same as well? Anybody found a solution to it? Is it Samsung problem?
Thanks
25 million have no problem .
You have non Samsung firmware on the phone blame that first .
You have the problem and its worth trying a USB jig to enter download mode before paying for a repair .
Or just hope that Samsung dont refuse warranty on unofficial firmware .
jje
maybe its the rom your using.
Running stock ics firmware no problems here full stock dont want to risk custom just yet

I belive it might be related with the ROM you are currently on like mentioned above.

You might want to have a look at the file that is attached to my post.
You will need the second file too.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket (AT&T)
I used Odin to Root it, everything was running PERFECT.
Then when I put on AndroidParanoid From Unlockr ( I can't post link due to not having ten posts yet )
I then rebooted and now my phone will not turn on at all.
I've tried normal power up, Download Mode, and Recover Mode, Plugging it into a PC and to the Wall Charger while using all 3 forms of powering up. Still will not work...
I'm at a complete loss here guys an gals, what do I do??
Thanks,
Tony

You are the 2nd person I have seen today, who got a brick after using Paranoid Android from theUnlockr.
Anyway, if the device cannot go to even download mode, try USB Jig. If you don't have one, you can create it.
Here is a guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/help/guide-how-to-make-usb-jig-reset-binary-t1604707
I repaired my friend's Galaxy SII using my created USB Jig. Jig forced his phone to Download mode where I flashed it with Odin.
If USB Jig doesn't work then JTAG Device may repair it. However JTAG is not very commonly available.
In that case, I am afraid you need to contact Customer Care Center and get the Motherboard changed.
Everything is normal after motherboard changed.
But your warranty may be void due to custom ROM and Root.
Also I think your device is Samsung Galaxy SII Skyrocket SGH-I727 locked for AT&T Carrier.
Then this is your device's forum where more knowledgiable people than me (because I don't have your device) will help you.

I'm happy the post has helped you!!!
It's always useful to share your problems, all options used, solutions, and sources of information.
It will sooner or later help someone somewhere with something. haha.
XDA is by far the TOP online location for all your needs and people with great insight on cell phones!
I work at Verizon Wireless Customer Care (CSR), and I have direct well over a thousand people here and walked them through to get to their cell phones section!
Although I can not say who, or give them my info so they can't figure out who I am (illegal), I'm hoping they have receive the knowledge and help you have here today also.

just put it in usb port like you put a charger pin. It does the rest. It forces phone into Download mode.
@pocthird
I am glad that this helped you. However I wish you never see USB Jig. i.e. your phone should never brick.
Hi everybody.
I'm having an issue similar to the one described in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/custom-rom-flash-memory-replacement-t2780109
While in that post it's about galaxy S3, in my case it's galaxy S2 (and there were no answers to the mentioned post).
Anyway, my phone is now undergoing fixes in the lab, and they're telling me in advance that since they'll be replacing the memory chip, I won't be able to flash any ROMs by myself (i.e. neither via odin nor by recovery) - otherwise the phone won't connect to the cell network.
They told me that right now they can install whichever ROM I ask them to, in their lab. But I'll have to come to them each time I want to replace/upgrade it. Meaning, they're using some sort of a lab flashing method. And they are unwilling to share technical details.
It's gonna be a bummer to have to pay some lab every time I wish to upgrade the ROM.
Does anyone know anything about this? Can this flashing technically be done in non-lab conditions after all?
Thanks in advance!

Well if the chip is different to the genuine one, then it might be a little more dangerous to flash a new rom. If its genuine, still should be able to flash a new rom even if not in lab conditions. If your phone loses cell connectivity and if that doesn't work, then problem with your phone cell, you could try flashing a different modem. I don't know anything about a lab that asks you to pay them to update a rom, they probably just want your money.
Thanks, man.
It's strange that genuine vs non-genuine is an issue. It's not like the repair is very cheap - it might even get to as much as 150$, but thankfully about a half of it will be covered by an insurance I did on the phone. So I believe they should have a decent profit for such a price even if they do not compromise on the parts.
Do you have a link to somwhere I can see genuine chip pricing? Are those still made for i9100?
Cheers,
TuxRacer
