So stoked I bought this phone! - G2 General

I have been sitting on a fence post about whether to buy this phone or the note 3. I finally decided this is the phone I wanted after a rep at the local Verizon store who had recently bought one herself demonstrated hers to me in great detail and even let me take hers out to my car in the parking lot to see if the Bluetooth worked well with my car, which it did, beautifully. Incidentally, she is the first customer rep in a store who wasn't arrogant and knew anything about any of the phones they sell.
I followed the instructions in these forums to root and install TWRP and I've just installed some mods to declutter the status bar, also found in these forums.
I am so pleased with this phone. All I need now is a mod to change the battery icon to 1% circle and a mod to allow transparent status and nav bars w/Nova, that don't interfere with each other.
Otherwise I find the performance amazing, and eveything else I've tried have worked as expected. Im a happy camper, and don't have a single regret. :good:

wow that is so great to hear, considering the neglect & criticism this phone is suffering from just about every reviewer, blogger, saleperson etc...
I have practically devoted my life lately to spreading the LG Gospel, I have like a zillion videos about it on my bossytexaschick youtube channel... My husband's about to commit me but I don't care, as long as I can take my LG G2 with me to the mental hospital...lol
There is simply nothing about this phone not to love : )
Here's a pic of the skin I put on it that I got from cellphoneshop.com for under 10 bucks! Not a fingerprint to be seen for miles!

Hi.
I am currently checking out your Youtube channel and just want to tell you that you have convinced me to get the LG G2 over the Note 3.
I've been trying to decide for a few weeks between the G2, Note3, S4 & Nexus 5 and a lot of the reasons I was leaning to the Note 3 you are showing on the G2.
I'm still waiting until The Nexus 5 is officially announced just in case it's the best phone ever, but if the Nexus 5 is what all the leaks say it is, (a watered down G2) I will definately get the G2

I was in the same boat. G2, Note 3, Nexus 5... I decided I didn't want the nexus because I would have had to change carriers and lose my grandfathered plans and rates. I decided against the Note 3 because it is locked and really too large to hold comfortably. That left thus awesome phone. I am loving it, and this after having used a Galaxy Nexus for 2 years.

Ms D, I've commented on your awesome videos before and so it's good to see you again! Keep up the good work and do what makes you happy!
The G2 isn't perfection but it's darn good and there just isn't a better phone for me out there. I'm sure I could get used to the other flagship phones and like them as well considering androids customization options, but this one just feels right to me.
Almahix, glad to hear you are liking your phone! I was in the same decision tree as you as well. Turned out from testing that note 3 was too big, so that was easy to eliminate from the choices and nexus 5 was watered down version of G2, and I liked the sleek look and feel of no side buttons. Knock on, which is awesome, sealed the deal.

I find it hard to understand that the reviewers aren't more impressed with this phone. The software is really good, it has the increased battery life that they have asked for for years, it's light, it's almost lag free and it's even usable with one hand while having a large stunning display. What's not to like? I'm still impressed that it's already possible to make a phone like this.
I have had an iPhone, the Galaxy SI, II and III, Note II and three different Windows Phones. This one takes the cake. The cake from a very fancy bakery that is.

99% of reviewers are cowards or are receiving "payola"! i never thought that even tho i read it many times in forums, but after seeing the "lukewarm" reception LG G2 has gotten, i can't help but believe its true. If anything Samsung put out ran HALF this smooth or implemented features the way LG's UI does, the reviewers would be "wetting themselves" over it...lol

i have to say i think this phone is 10 times that of what the Nexus 5 will be. I had the Nexus 4 (white version) at the same time as my LG Optimus Pro and used them both daily, but for me (an admitted NON Vanilla Fan) the ONLY thing i liked better on Nexus 4 was the beautiful sparkley white glass form factor... The Nexus 5's design will not be nearly as premium, and quite frankly, i believe LG's UI is its MAIN virtue. The way it gives u a gabillion options to customize any & every thing on your phone WITHOUT needing to root & install a custom ROM while at the same time not slowing it down one iota is to me what makes this phone above & beyond anything Sammy has ever put out. I was "all in" with Samsung UNTIL they began to "milk the galaxy Line" for all it was worth, and in the process started cutting features and hoping consumers just "wouldn't notice or care" and still charge high dollar for those "watered down devices" Lost all of my respect when the S4 came out and it couldn't open a dialer or an app draw without couging, stuttering, hiccuping and hesitating.... I just happened to pick up the LG Optimus Pro one day during my 14 day period when i was looking for a case for S4, and i was like "THIS is the experience i SHOULD be getting on the S4 but wasn't"... Returned S4, and have been an LG Hardcore fan ever since!
Sorry so wordy, but when i get started on the subject of LG vs Samsung, there is NO shutting me up!

As I posted in another thread.. I think I wasted my money on the T-Mobile Jump program. I don't know if I will want to trade my LG G2 phone in for another in 6 months, or ever .. Not at least until another LG phone comes out
This phone is a Gem and I hope more and more discover it.. I was getting tired of touchwiz, and even though LG has took a lot of liberties from it, it's improved it so much that it doesn't even seem like I'm using Touchwiz.

I agree about touch wiz. It isn't as invasive as I expected, and there are plenty of apps and exposed modules to select from to customize one's ui.

You're not obligated to trade in your phone. You just have too pay it off before you can get a new one.

confused...if ur using the LG G2, ur NOT using Touchwiz...or is that some sarcasm that just flew over my head?! wouldn't be the 1st time...lol
I also got the Jump Program and also wondered if its a waste becuz i DO NOT see myself wanting out of this phone anytime in the distant future, but then again, u do know it doubles as insurance right?
if u crack screen or water damage phone, you just pay $175.00 for replacement, but if normal wear & tear damage (power buttons fall off, screen goes wonky, etc ) they replace it for no deductible, so overall i think its worth it....
And man, am i enjoying the heck out of my UNlimited UNthrottled approx 20GB LTE data usage a month with no overage concerns for a mere $20 bucks a mo : )

Feels like another stinker to me... maybe.

Got the G2 on launch day from a Verizon store here in town. Phone is great, no doubt about that. What worries me is that this appears to be a hero phone without much demand. HTC has done a great job of marketing the One, and everyone knows Moto. The G2 on display at the Verizon store is jammed between an iPhone and an older model Samsung something-or-other with no signage other than a huge "Samsung Galaxy" poster on the wall behind it.
If I keep this, it will be the third device in a row that I've bought as a "flagship" which wound up getting the cold shoulder in many ways.
First I had the HTC Incredible, probably the most popular of the bunch. While it did have ROM development, it was quickly forgotten when the HTC EVO came out seemingly a week later. Accessories were few and far between.
Second was the Galaxy Nexus, heralded as a "Google experience" device on Verizon. After endless launch delays, it came out and was quickly forgotten by Verizon and Google both. Accessories were few and far between.
Now I have the LG G2, a great device with awesome specs! I actually don't mind the Verizon/LG "skin" on this so much. But again, Verizon had to **** it up with changing the buttons and making the thing thicker. Accessories will be practically nil for this device other than the three cases from Verizon at launch. There will be countless Chinese imports that will claim to fit but will not, because the back-alley factories making this crap don't give a damn about doing anything per spec. Just make it look vaguely correct and slap a knock off hello-kitty design on the back and call 'er done! "Your Happy Plastic Partner" indeed!
I am also afraid that development will completely stall on this device because everyone will head to the Nexus 5...
Sigh... I should just go trade for an HTC One, I think... I don't know. I am torn.
The moto x isn't selling well (att rep who owns a moto x said he hasn't been able sell a single one) HTC marketing well, are you kidding? They are losing money head over heels even with the one. They only thing with LG is, they have a very small market share they are not Apple or Samsung.

I feel the op pain I had the G pro witch I felt was the most underrated phone ever and coming from the note 2 it was way better than the note2 and the G pro was DOA LG has zero marketing as well as a very bad reputation of leaving customers out to dry as far as updates. LG makes bad ass phones no doubt but needs a lot of work in marketing and support

Specs or no specs, anyone I know that has or has tried a MotoX loved it. I think whats killing them is the $199 for a 16GB non-expandable phone, sitting right next to a 32GB Galaxy S4 and HTC One for 149, the LG G2 for 199, etc.
And their goal with that phone WASNT balls to the wall specs....it was supposed to reliable and economical (but again the high price question still applies)
I have used the moto x and can tell you the 720 display and processor really are fine. The software enhancements kick total ass. That being said this phone Absolutely destroys it on every front. I absolutely hate amoled. Way too dim.

This. Everything is fine with the moto x, and I'd still be using it if the battery was decent but lately I've been getting idle drain that I can't figure out. As for amoled, it's great indoors, terrible outside. If LG steps their game up with update frequency I have no problem keeping this phone for a long time. Same goes for the moto x if I was somehow getting the 5+ hours of screen on time per day some people are reporting. Oh, and one grip with lg. Why is there not an option to make the buttons on the bottom like aosp to have the recent apps button and not just the menu...

No, you do NOT want an HTC One. I just sold my One for the G2...the G2 completely destroys the One in every way except for speakers and construction material, which are two minor things IMO since I prefer using headphones and the G2 feels solid/premium even though it's not metal. The One IS a great phone, but not as great as the G2. I really don't care if the G2 isn't bought in mass by the masses because I know I have a great phone and that's all that matters. I will be a little disappointed if there aren't many custom roms, but I'm OK with that because the stock rom is super smooth and customizable, plus I will be less tempted to constantly swap roms if there aren't many available

Actually I think the blame for locked bootloaders falls on the carriers, not the manufacturer. S4 is unlocked but not on VZW, etc.
LG will do whatever VZW tells them (or lets them). But VZW may not care if they really dont think this phone will sell well, or if they arent marketing it very much (which, as we can tell, they are NOT)

They aren't marketing it AT ALL. I've seen some Droid Maxx commercials though and an even recent Moto X commercial but zero for the LG G2.

Just WOW at this phone!!

So I was one of the lucky Verizon glitch upgraders and chose this phone. It was a choice between this, Note 3, and S4. Note 3 was too expensive for me and the S4 I was afraid I would receive with newer firmware which I'm not sure you could get past the bootloader anymore.
I am just floored by this phone!! For the first time ever I am enjoying the stock rom, well Clean rom . LG did a very nice job with this one. This phone isn't a beast, it's a friggen monster!! I have to say that LG is back in the game big time with this and I'm hoping this doesn't fall into the pit of forgotten phones like the Bionic and Thunderbolt.
I came from a Galaxy Nexus so I've been spoiled by a plethora of roms, customizations, and the Google experience, but I feel from using this so far that I've made the right decision for once.
For people in the same boat, how do you feel about it? Also, go into your gallery and run the high def slideshow to amaze people of the beautiful screen. I'm going to show this thing to as many iphone users as I can and I might get one to convert.
I feel the same way
I think I'll be using this phone for a long time lol
Also, many friends of mine with iphones switched to g2 after playing with my phone a little.
They were amazed by the screen size/quality.
Fyi. Playing with the vutalk with friends in classes is very fun. hehe

I'm glad to see so many people saying similar things, with Clean ROM.
I was THIS close to ordering a S4. Then I changed my mind, due to the bootloader, and was leaning towards the HTC ONE due to the overall fluidity and design, but that camera just didn't cut it. I have 3 kids. I don't think my phone will replace my DSLR setup, but I do take a lot of on the go pics because when we're out with them kid awesomeness happens!
Then I saw the G2 and kept thinking (G2 vs S4) and it was so close I just took a plunge and had our developer order me a G2. It'll be here next week (he's stealing it for a few days to do some preliminary testing of our game on it before sending it to me) and I see things like this an dreally feel I made the best choice. The 549 price tag for the thing for a no-contract purchase helped! Since the S4 and ONE are 699 start that was a nice drop in price for better under the hood specs.
Don't get me wrong... the S4 is an amazing phone, but the G2 + Clean ROM seems like the perfect choice for me. Good camera. Power under the hood. Battery life. Load the hide drawer option for those On Screen buttons... and I'm good!
Can't wait to get it next week. I'll be retiring my iPhone 5 for it (love the iPhone, but I'm in a tinkering mood lately.)

I'll be retiring my iPhone 5 for it (love the iPhone, but I'm in a tinkering mood lately.)

what do you mean?
I used Clean Rom and the modified UI to ditch the phone volume slider, disabled CarrierIQ and installed Xposed framework and did some simple mods. Got my Qremote set up with all my TV/Blueray stuff and it's awesome I couldn't be happier!

On the LG G2 there's those bottom menu style keys that are static (unless in movies, games, etc). You can use the below app, from my reading at least, to hide them since a lot of people who tweak their systems dislike them.

Me Too!
I just got mine today but I ordered it during the "glitch sale". Had it up and running in a couple of minutes and I've been genuinely impressed for the last couple of hours playing with it. I just hope they keep the firmware updated. So far, the interface is really not too bad. I may skin it but for now I'm going to give this a try.

Ditched my Gnex on launch day for the G2 also.. I couldn't be happier either. Now lets just see when CM10 comes this way.
Let's face it LG has STRUGGLED with some real dogs. The G2 absolutely shows they are back in the game. I swap and trade and upgrade on a frequent basis but with the G2 wow. This will be tough to improve on speed is crazy, screen is great really love the drop down menus.
Well done LG.

Well done LG.
I wanted the Nexus 5 once I found out it was based on the G2. Once I realized the N5 won't be on Verizon I settled on getting the G2 in a year when it would be cheaper at full retail or used.
Then the whole upgrade glitch comes along and makes my month!
This phone has absolutely met my expectations. The top and bottom bezels could be smaller as well as the sides, but for the phones available it has the most screen/size. It has a very solid, classy feel thanks to the thin metal/ceramic edge holding the screen. I couldn't get that feeling from the Verizon demo so it was a nice surprise. I was honestly expecting a Samsung type of plasticy feel but don't get that at all.
With my wife's Nexus 4 and our Nexus 7 fhd I will be getting enough stock Android to keep me satisfied. The UI isn't bad once things are turned off and Clean ROM sure helps. I'd like to use stock launcher but don't like the app labels so its back to Apex and that's fine by me.
I can't wait to see some kernels and Xposed modules that work better with our G2!
And one of those ASOP ROMs couldn't hurt but I can wait.
I was able to convert my cousin. He saw my screen and said "wow, that screen is way better than my iPhone5's screen. I think my next phone is going to be android."

LG G2 scene compared to Samsung

Hey there!
So I recently lost my Galaxy S4 (no questions asked, please) which I was very happy with. I played a lot around with different roms, kernels and stuff.
Now I'm thinking about getting the LG G2 because it seems like the cool new thing on the market. I notice, though, that there aren't really that big scene around for it - I really base that in the forum activity here on XDA. So I would like to know what people's experience is with this thing, especially if you've played around with the SGS4 as well.
A bit off topic in here - I would like to know how it is to root and mod, is it easily bricked? That's one thing I really liked on the Samsung phones in general.
Do you think there will be a bigger scene once it gets out to more people? And roms as well? I know it's hard to live up to the Samsung hype but still...
L8r!
Don't know what to tell you. This phone rocks. The battery the screen the form factor. Couple it with the latest cpu and Graphic ram (what ever that is). This phone packs the best spec right now. The camera is no slouch either with OIS it is up there with the best.
As for developments, this device is so ready. Right now there is root and twrp and CWM. Read it somewhere about kernel source is released (need to fact check on that). This device is more than ready for development.
But still people are waiting one the fence until the released of nexus 5 to make their choices.
But for me I have already made my mine with 3000mah vs 2300mah battery there is nothing nexus 5 can do to beat this.

This. Plus devs have already made announcements this past week that they're working on this phone. You'll be fine
I've had the S4 (twice), and it doesn't even compare to this phone. The S4 was an un-optimized piece of trash imo. This phone is the opposite where everything is quick and the features actually make sense.
The screen is better, performance is better and battery life is much better. Just grab this phone, you won't be disappointed.

Awesome phone, just got it, camera and vid are awesome, cam software could be improved a bit but really it's the best phone I've used, def like it better than s4.. and the nex5 battery is a deal breaker, coupled with an 8mp camera I read it's supposed to have... definitely G2.

I've had the s4 , I own the g2 and just recently picked up the note 3 ,Def can't go wrong with the g2 it's the best battery life hands down even compared with the N3

You're going to love it! Now that I think about it, I haven't had a phone where just about everyone who I've asked is in love with it and raves about it this much (check the other forums S4, HTC One, Note 3, 5s etc)
The G2 is that good. I had the HTC One for a week & took it back to get the G2 once I saw it at the store & don't miss the One @ all. I even waited 2 extra weeks to get the white version.
I'm very particular about the phones I get & how I use them. Trust me, this one will also get put through its paces. In the short time I've had it, I can tell you, its no slouch, the battery is insane, it just won't die no matter what I try to do & this is on the stock ROM!!!!
All I've done it turn off Carrier IQ which you can do without Root! Whoa. You'll see in a few days when you get it.
P.S
There's a Dev on the forums who mentioned they're making ROMs for our phone. In a few weeks this place is going to be buzzing & you'll be amazed @ what your new phone can do

ha good one... the screen CAN'T compare! I have had the HTC One, S4 and S4 active and this screen is SO much better. Plus everything else it better too. So go play with one and you will see what we mean
I don't normally jump into these types of threads but I have to voice my opinion. I've always been a Samsung fan and love their phones. I'm coming from a Galaxy Nexus and have had plenty of hands on experience with the S3. This phone easily trumps both, hands down. The speed of this phone is amazing, the screen is beautiful and not over saturated like the AMOLED displays, the features are endless (I've had the phone since Thursday and I'm still finding little things out) and development is sure to pick up soon. The rear button placement does take a day or so to get used to but with the Knock On feature I hardly ever press the power button. Go through the 30 Day Challenge videos on PhoneDog about the phone. Their biggest gripe is they claim the phone is TOO FAST!

niceto see the note cheats on all but one, LG only on 2.
Anyway whos to say these are cheats, if you run your mobile optimally by changing characteristics, it can hardly be called a cheat, its more optimalization.
also as its been debunked a thousand times over, benchmarks say nothing, its all about your percieved performance.
What is wrong with maxing out to phone setting before benchmark? It is not like they faked the score or anything. I remember my PC days when we used to freeze the cpu and overclock the **** out of it. That may be the extreme example but it is what your hardware is capable off.

Lets just say I'm surprised how good this phone is. The best smart phone I've every owned. My last phone was a GNex with stock 4.3.
Coming from the s4, the screen ALONE makes the G2 a winner to me. The outdoor performance of the g2 KILLS amoled.
Battery life is amazing. I average about 15 hours a charge. Heck, today I'm going on 13 hours since I unplugged it and got 47% battery left. (Location service turned off. I use an app called "smart shortcuts to give me a shortcut to location services for when I need Maps)
Performance wise, this is as smooth as 4.3 gpe ROM I was running on my s4. And that's STOCK.
those factors alone actually made rethink about rooting. But I needed to root to hide those dang on soft keys

It says Sprint only but I can't really see how it should be that different?

LG G2
I too must confess, (like anyone really cares), I have been a fan of the Galaxy line since they started making them, and I was impressed with both the S4 and N3; was even contemplating picking that up, since my wife and I were due for an upgrade in a few days, she is bent on going for the N3 so that was out of the question, (can't have us both walking around with the same phone), but then I came across the LG G2 on one of those comparison videos and immediately fell in love. After that I went searching for information all over, which brought me back here, because I knew that if this phone was really as hot as I thought it was then it was sure to be buzzing on this forum. And I'm glad to see you guys don't disappoint. You've helped me make my choice that much easier. And can't wait to get my hands on this phone in a few days.
I do have a few questions though:
Is the LG OS on top of the Android OS easy to deal with or is it cumbersome and superfluous?
Would I truly miss not having an micro SD card slot, or is the phone so much ****s and giggles that I won't even notice?
What was the longest time someone has gone without charging their battery, with a full assortment of apps running?

Stay with the g2 or jump on the n5

Let me start this off with these are just swine thoughts I have been thinking. I like the g2 (AT&T IS WHAT I HAVE). Big BATTERY, big screen, phone feels good in the hand, ect. I had previously been on the fence of the g2 and the n5. Seeing 4.4.1 was just dropped and from the n5 thread there are gobs and gobs of roms and kernels and mods. Coming from a gnex I knew the g2 didn't have the dev attention like nexus devices. I see lg roms that are modded, custom roms such as vanir, pacrom and such...I've only had the g2 less than 15 days and all in all I like it. I just miss the flashing and testing. My g2 is rooted, exposed w g2, camera mod, dpi dropped and such.
Am I just having withdrawals and I actually have a better phone than the n5? Probably..
My one question.. when 4.4 officially drops on the g2 would there be more devs (roms and kernels) that jump on the g2 or will it b somewhat scarce like it is now. Again I like the g2 but not sure I made the right decision.

The Nexus 5 is a "Chumps" G2. its "half" the phone.
The G2 Development scene is on fire and will only get better and better.
My opinion, as someone who owns the G2 now (for the second time) and someone who's owned the N5 (and probably still would if it didn't have a mic issue that I returned it for)...
...if you like tinkering, ROMing, modding, and generally messing with your phone, then the N5 is the way to go. While I did return mine, I'll probably pick up another one at some point if only so I'll have an "unbrickable" phone to play around with.
My G2 is rooted as well and I'm running stock with Xposed and G2 Xposed installed, an ad blocker, and that's pretty much it. The G2 is the superior phone when it comes to battery life (by far) and the camera. The N5 is the superior phone if you like tinkering and you want a phone that's got tons of developer support.
I will say this...while I love both these phones, neither works as well FOR ME as my Moto X. I know, I know...why am I posting that here? I'm just giving my own personal account. I've loved my carrier edition 16gb Moto X so much that I decided to grab a 32gb MotoMaker X during the Cyber Monday (on Wednesday) deal. That's how good it is.
I'm sure at some point I'll sell the G2 and probably use the funds to grab another N5. While I don't like tinkering as much as I used to, I do still have that bug every once in a while, so having one around would be nice.

That is what I hope. I hope the scene will grow. Coming from I Toro gnex the dev scene wasn't as big as Maguro but you still had stuff to chose from. The battery is amazing. Playing games on the gnex with less than 50% I would usually need the charger plugged in as the battery would be hit pretty hard. With the g2 at 35 % I don't need the charger. Really my only gripe is all the white. White settings, sms, notifications. Is there an exposed or something where we can theme like theme chooser? I can always sell a year down the road. Just needed to see if I was being rash and unrealistic on the greatness of the n5.

Sure, no problem.
I'll say up front it's hard to explain. I was one of those people that wasn't wowed by the Moto X when it was introduced, because of the seemingly "sub par" specs. How in the world could this phone compete with the other flagships that I'd had over the past couple of years (S2, S3, S4, Note 2, LGOG, G2, Nexus 5, iPhone 5S)? All I can say is, it does. At least for me.
It wasn't until I actually went to my closest AT&T store and put one in my hand that I fell head over heels for it. The in-the-hand feeling is like nothing I've experienced with any Android phone I've owned. It's solid, got a great weight to it, and feels very premium. But it also FLIES. No hint of stutter or lag at all.
Of course, it helps if you're a person that really likes a stock Android experience. If you like all the bells and whistles of TouchWiz or LG's skin or Sense, then stock Android might seem bland to you. But I love stock, and the Moto X is stock on steroids because of the few unique things Motorola threw in that you don't think you'll use until you actually own the phone. Active Display (notifications), Assist, Motorola Connect, and Touchless Controls make it an experience unlike any other phone. I was never one to talk to my phone, but Touchless Controls is something I use 10-20 times a day and it just keeps getting better since it's now hosted in the Play Store and doesn't need a full firmware upgrade to upgrade itself.
And Active Display (notifications) have RUINED every other phone for me. To be able to glance at your phone, not touch it, and know if you've got a notification is awesome. Sure, you can do the same thing with the LED light on the G2 or any of the Samsung phones, but it's not the same. Again, it's just something you have to experience in order to get it.
A couple of other things...the camera wasn't great at first, but that camera update fixed it unbelievably. It's SO much better now. It's not G2 or 5S great yet, but it's not far behind. Another thing I love in a great phone is the speaker. Not for music, but for when I'm in the car and don't have my headset, so I can talk hands free. The speaker on the Moto X is WAY better than the speaker on the G2 (which is soft and distorts badly when you turn it all the way up). The X speaker can get loud, but doesn't distort...ever.
I highly recommend the Moto X to everyone that asks. It's simply the best Android phone I've ever used and has me excited to see where Motorola goes from here. They're off to a great start under Google tutelage.

Wow, thx for the really informative perspective. I've got one thing I wanna ask you that really concerns me the most, it's about the display size and resolution. Having first used the note 2 for a year and adjusting really well to the g2's screen size, which I think is the perfect size balance, how does it feel to use the moto? Does the smaller screen size bother u or is it better in your opinion?

You're welcome. Glad I could help!
No doubt coming back down to the 4.7" screen on the X will take some time to adjust to, even from the G2. It took me a few days as the last phones I was using before getting my Moto X were the Note 2 and S4. But, the screen is actually very underrated, in my opinion. It gets pretty bright (I tend to keep mine set around 25% unless I'm in direct sunlight in which case I'll bump it up to 50-75% as needed). It's also got a lot warmer color than the G2 (because it's AMOLED compared to the LCD on the G2), but LG is known for it's very blue tint on it's screens. Brightness-wise, I prefer the AMOLED as I think it's easier on the eyes. I get a lot of eye strain from the very bright, very blue G2 screen. That's something I don't get on the X's screen.
Another thing about the screens...the viewing angles on the X are GREAT. You can nearly turn it sideways and still read the screen. The G2, in my opinion, is awful, maybe as bad as some of the Sony phones (which are known for their terrible viewing angles).
As far as the comparison between 720p on the X and 1080p on the G2, yes, there's a difference. But it's not THAT noticeable and the battery savings are worth it on a phone as one-hand friendly as the X. I realize the battery savings don't mean a lot when you're comparing it to the G2 since the G2 has that huge battery, but if you want something that's not huge yet still want amazing battery life, the X will do nicely.
One preference I have is I like the front of my phones to be black (or dark blue in the case of the S3). I've always thought white fronts on phones wash out the display, no matter how good it is. That's just a preference of mine, though.

Again, you're welcome. I don't want to make it sound like I dislike the G2 at all. It's a fantastic device. But for me, the Moto X just works better. Obviously it's all subjective to each user, but you wanted an opinion...LOL. Sorry for being a bit long-winded!

Yeah, sure it is subjective, but it is very interesting how specs on paper are seemingly becoming less and less important compared to real innovation, customization and originality. I am here thinking of the Touchless Control and Active display etc on the Moto X

Thx again, makes me want to go out to a brick mortar like best buy and try playing with their display model before deciding what to do with that coupon deal. I've read and watched quite alot about the moto, but haven't had the chance to actually see one in person yet. I'll try to do that this weekend.

We're definitely entering a good time in the mobile industry, one where specs don't matter nearly as much as optimization. It's what set the iPhone apart from other OS's for so long, but Apple had a distinct advantage because it controlled both software and hardware. Now Google/Motorola have each other, so they can start down that path to optimization (and I think the first very large step down that path is the Moto X). I'd all but written off Motorola phones after the Atrix HD that I'd had, but the X has me extremely excited to see what else is coming down the pipeline from Motorola/Google. :good:

Truth! Optimization is a very important factor in the user experience. I remember buying the iPhone 3GS back in the day instead of an Android phone purely because of the smoothness of the OS due to the great optimization
I'm going to add that although I thought the moto x looked amazing, I have previously owned the Motorola photon. When I first bought the phone I loved it, then Motorola stepped in and canceled all firmware updates for the phone, although they made a press release saying they would continue support which they later went back on. I'll never get a Motorola phone for this reason and this reason alone. How pathetic of a company.

I had a N5 for a week then dropped it for the g2. If you want more roms than you can shake a stick at then the N5 is for you. If you want nice hardware, useable battery (imho N5 just isn't useable as a modern smartphone due to battery) then get G2. The screen and lack of bezel on the G2 is stunning. Id say the G2 is a grown up N5. Fyi, I had an N4 since November last year til the moment the N5 came out and after a few days decided that it was no upgrade.

What's better with G2, and are you happy?

What device were you using before G2, and what made you go for the G2?
What's the best single upgrade on your G2 from your old device? Speed? Camera? Sound?
I'll go first:
I came from Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000, which was a great phone. I just grew tired of having to charge at least twice a day no matter what. The G2 has amazing battery life, also it's faster (obviously) and that eases up on being annoyed by the constant lags of N7000. However, the speaker placement was kinda better on N7000 (back side), at least for when holding the G2 in landscape. My finger tends to block the speaker on the G2, never happened on the N7000. Also, ROM development is awesome on the N7000 (still), which is something I miss on the G2. Luckily Flex 1.5 is fast and stable, never had any problems. Knock on feature: Awesome! Button placement: Awesome! Also, camera on the G2 is an amazing upgrade from the N7000, and that what I think is best about upgrading from N7000.
I'll never look back.
I came from an iPhone 4 and the reason I changed was to get out of Apple's ecosystem.
What opened my eyes for Android was that I bought a Chinese Android tabled and I was overwhelmed with the things I could do with it. Nobody forced you to run one specific software and you could overclock, underclock etc.
Then I realized which kind of prison Apple has put their customers in, and since it was time for a new phone (had my i4 since Q2 2011 and it was becoming laggy) I wanted something awesome.
When I first purchased my iPhone, it could handle virtually EVERY game, but as it grew older it started to lag even with simple games and the whole user experience wasn't as pleasant as before.
So when I was looking for a new phone, I had some requirements:
- Good battery life
- Display Density same as or over my old iPhone
- Good hardware
I really don't use my camera that much, so that wasn't a problem for me at all but it was nice to know it had a 13MP shooter with OIS.
My choices were boiled down to either the Note 3, LG G2 or Nexus 5. I disliked the XPERIA Z1 - no idea why.
I wanted the Note mainly because of the stylus and the split-screen, but it's size and price were a huge turnoff. The Note 3 was about $200 more than G2.
The LG had a nice screen, good size (albeit a tad too big since my fingers are relatively small), great battery life and a smooth UI - and it was cheap too!
The Nexus 5 was the phone I was wanting the very most prior to it's release - Stock android, timely updates and blazing fast. In Denmark, however, you can only get the 16 gb version and many reviews claimed that the battery wasn't really big enough. The Nexus 5 was priced equally to the LG G2.
I was quite unsure about the hardware buttons being placed on the back and the fragility of the phone, but I still purchased it. I haven't regret it (and I won't be doing that anytime soon) and it continues to amaze me.
I was uncertain about the "future-proof"-ment of the Snapdragon 800, but when I saw the announcement of the Snapdragon 805, I figured it wouldn't be that much of an upgrade to the Snapdragon 800 and that the next-gen 64-bit processors wouldn't come before late '14. I plan on keeping my G2 for another two or three years and despite the "slow" updates, I am seriously considering LG as my next phone as well.
I came from nexus 5.
Main reason was battery and storage. I had 16 gb nexus 5 abs was able to sell it and get a 32 gb g2 for the same price.
Battery also lasts twice as long. On nexus 5 I averaged 4 hours sot on the g2 I get 4 ande still 50 percent left. Its Awesome. I also like the extra features. Stock on nexus 5 got kinda boring. If I want aosp I'll just flash a custom Rom

i came from the LG G Pro AND the Xperia Z. i honestly loved my g pro but it was never loved by lg. With my xperia z i loved everything but after playing with the g2s camera i fell in love. Especially with the manual focus.

You left out the "I like peanut butter" option in the poll.
I came from the GS3. I was a previous crack flasher on the GS3, because there was always a feature I wanted that was only available in custom ROMS. After having the G2 since launch, I've flashed a good number or ROMS, but ALWAYS go back to stock rooted. It has all the features, battery life and reliability I could ever want. I've never been content with any phone I've had stock, but I can honestly say this phone is perfect for me. For once I haven't even looked at what phones are going to be released, I could care less. I've found the phone that does everything I need and it has freed me from the constant wanting of a new phone.
Came from a HTC One X.
Loved this phone, but w/ only 1 gig of ram, the experience wasn't as smooth as I would've liked. I'm a Sense fan and it was a little tough to give that up (I think i'm the only person who loves blinkfeed). When looking for an upgrade, I wanted the best processor I could find for the cheapest money (off contract). This phone was it. Best attribute of this phone has to be the battery. This thing is a beast and very innovative in the way it was designed. I'm also very impressed with the remote app. Very solid app if I say so myself. After spending a few days with this device, it makes my One X feel small in every way. I feel like I have found the device that I can truly stick with for long time.
Scrib'd on my OG2
I have had a journey with cell phones and now I have ended up with the G2 and This device is a straight beast!
I got the iPhone 5S on launch day and then decided I wanted to go back to Android and I traded it for a Note 3. Note 3 really didn't live up to the hype and decided to go back with the 5S. Shortly I just realized how limited ios is and decided the only thing left to try up to the standard of those previous phones is the G2.
I feel this device is better than the N3 by a long shot. The way LG interface handles the OS is phenomenal! Battery life is a beast and I have experienced no lag at all. I haven't got involved with the camera too much but I snapped a few pictures and they have come out great. Installed Nova launcher and SwiftKey and I'm good to go!!!

Well i came from an s4 and have to say the g2 is way bettery, brighter screen faster and way better battery life, only thing i a little annoyed with right now is my screen is cracked again.. i got my g2 from my father he had it dropped it and cracked the screen so i traded him my s4 and replaced the screen on it, well what do you know... it dropped off my night stand on the floor from 2 feet and cracked again... :crying: i like the little to no Bessie on the side but lg definitional needs to do something about its display, now it does not recognize touch on the lower half. i had a screen protector on and at 1st did not notice it was cracked, i would rather be able to use it with the cracked screen...
I had a Lumia 920 earlier. It was a beautiful phone but that's about it. Lack of apps was a big pain. I was looking for a phone with a good camera and a big screen. S4 fitted my bill but it's so common that everyone who doesn't have an iPhone has it. Then I came across G2. Read the reviews etc and realized that this was a phone that was just made for me (I can vouch on that!).
I understand techie things well but I'm still learning about custom ROMs and Mods. The choices available in terms of apps and ROMs are mind boggling and then I'm still looking for answers on rooting and flashing. I read horror stories on how rooted phones get "bricked" when they get OTAs but there is no clear answer on how to stop OTAs or how to retain the root in spite of OTAs. Anyways, it's an interesting world out here on flashing and customization and I like it!
I came from an iPhone 4s. Probably the most compelling reason why I switched is the awesome display of the G2 (and the specs as well). I just got tired of the small screen size of the iPhone, although I somewhat miss the better selection of apps in the App Store and the overall simplicity of iOS. On the other hand, the ability to customize Android to my liking kind of evens it out for me. It just take more work than usual, but nothing too complicated.
i am pretty disappointed by the camera...i expected so much from a 13mp shooter with OIS...eveythng else is superv
I've got a VS980 with the latest Mahdi ROM & furnace kernel and I'm very happy. Camera doesn't matter that much to me, and I'm sure the software will improve. I've had excellent battery life, very little SODs and no call echo. Not going to change ROMs any time soon.
Love my G2 but won't be getting another LG phone.

Same here. Unless g3 is same size but rumors put it at 5.5 inches. I'll probably go with a Sony. They have some sweet phones and being water proof is a big bonus.
But for now in loving the g2 especially the amazing battery and I'm hoping to keep this for a while

Have you tried the z1? That beast is as smooth as a nexus And smoother than the g2 for sure when it comes down to hi. It's not anywhere near as bloated as touchwiz and lg ui but it's nit as bare as stock either. Perfect in between. I was going to get a z1s but it was locked to tmobile so I traded for the g2 instead. And I'm happy with it though the verizon version buttons are annoying to try and press
