its unfortunate that my first post in this forum is due to my stupidity in bricking my galaxy s3. I accidentally flashed the international omega ROM to my sprint s3 i thought i had double checked it but guess not. Ive heard that there is no way of unbricking a galaxy s3 unless you use a jtag or send it in.
does not respond or power on
no recovery or download mode
no signs of life except when plugged into a computer you hear the beep noise
i recently had the galaxy nexus and was able to recover it from a hard brick by using a command line im not sure if anything like that exist for the s3 ive only had it for a couple days now.
some more info i was running paranoid android rooted 4.3.2 the newest beta release 3.99 i think i acquired it from goo manager. i accuired I9300_Omega_v11_AOKP_Android_4.3.1_107B1578FFF0079E5FD69A1258D39CF2.zip and tried flashing it leaving my phone unbootable :/ any help is appreciated im not a complete nub when coming to this but no expert i have a jig made for the samsung galaxy nexus but didnt work on the s3 thanks again
If anything can resurrect it, only unbrick jig, or service centre. You won't do anything else if bootloader is dead.
Personally I think that even unbrick jig won't boot it, as bootloader is definitely overwritten with other one and you have a brick.

this is what i thought i read a thread that said you can copy the bootloader from another s3 and flash it to your device or use ubuntu to flash a img file to a sdcard and try to get into download mode from a dump but i havnt tried either of them

Yes, if you manage to write a new bootloader to a memory it should work. But for doing so you need to contact a repair centre, as usb jig probably won't boot it either.
Unless you're expert and you manage to do so manualy.

You just need a bootloader, if I remember correctly it's /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 or 0p2.

First off u dont use odin to put superuser on it...its in the play store all u use odin for is to root thats it u never use again PM me and ill help u with ur problem we can fix anything on the i717 sometimes even bricking!! So dont ever think we cant
cm9
There is a thread in the i717 section that will lead u step by step read and read again! Only use odin to root and to install cwm nothing else! Backup ur stock rom then find a custom rom that suits u and happy flashing!
cm9
it will not even flash in odin now. i just tried it about 5 times and no go.
so how was or how did they dertermin that you were out of warranty ? it came out in like feb so did they say it was altered or somthing?
Ur doing something wrong man.....if u was able to get in odin before now u cant its on ur end not the phone
cm9
if you can get into download mode then start from scratch. I personally would re root
then reinstall recovery then flash a rom. take it step by step. I know there are roms you can Odin that will give you root but since your having issues I would do them separately. edit
just try Odin the stock rom tar since you just want to send it in

Honestly I want to help you buddy, but because you neglacted to read anything before you did this, this is your fault!
Yep very old. I cant believe that Koush hasnt figured something out for this yet. He fails too. CyanogenMod has always pushed ROM Manager, even tho most devs state not to use it.
OP: Get into download mode, and flash another, PROPER, kernel with ODIN or Heimdall.
Then use CWM to flash things.
I's in good mood today?
Well thanks anyway; hope to find a solution and post it. I know it was my fault so lwts move on its part of the experience in Android World.

@jdpardo,
If you can get into download mode, or have any sign of life from your phone, then it is not a brick, and you should be able to recover. Please let us know if you can get into download mode, and more help will be forthcoming.

Wish you good luck with that. Jtag takes a fair amount of dexterity for the micro soldering, and some fairly expensive equipment. If you are unable to get it done yourself, the owner of Mobile Tech Videos will perform Jtag recovery for about $50.00.
I sincerely hope you know that the method for getting into download mode on I777 is to take out the battery, plug normal portion of USB into computer already running Odin, then hold both volume buttons and plug in micro USB side to phone.
If that really does nothing for you, then try mobile tech videos.
i777 soft bricked, boot loop never goes away...
I bricked my samsung galaxy s2 i777 by trying to flash a rom via rom manager. While it was installing it, it rebooted and got stock on boot loop.
It can go into download mode but never to recovery or beyond.
I tried every solution recommended out there, like flashing stock kernel, stock rom, different roms, siyah kernel, oneclick unbrick, and you name it. I tied ADB but it does not recognize the device, nor does oneclick unbrick.
Somehow I need to go ahead and wipe everything but since I cannot get to recovery, I cannot wipe it, and every time I flash something via Odin, it goes through the whole process successfully however once it reboots after flashing, it is in bootloop again. All I see is samsung galaxy sII logo window.
Any solutions?
Thanks!

This. Do u have the android sdk installed, and the drivers for the i777 installed? You'll need those plus usb debugging already enabled to use ADB. (if u went the ADB route)

Something went wrong flashing AOKP from AoCP, bootlooped and I thought I could fix it, didn't realize I had to hold the buttons FOREVER, worked, thanks man
A simple way to get the i777 into download mode:
unplug the usb cable
turn the phone off
hold only the volume down button
insert usb cord
Almost instant download mode.
this really will help you

I'm not saying it won't work, but the fact that you've got a file from gs2root shows your inexperience and/or lack of concern for the well-being of others devices. There is no reason to take the risk of using ANYTHING from gs2root... you can get everything needed to do everything possible with this device right here from xda and have the peace of mind that it will work as expected so long as you follow the instructions.

First let me put it out there that I have been rooting and installing roms for multiple phones with no issue ever.
I tried to install *TheCollective*AoCP - CP4.4 for i717 on my note and it hard bricked the first one I don't know why but it did. No biggie so I went through warranty and got a new one today. Heres my process (Assume I have samsung usb drivers already installed and battery is 100%)
Enable USB debugging
Used Odin3 v1.83
Used cwm-touch-i717-120414.tar.md5
Downloaded *TheCollective*AoCP - CP4.4 for i717
Downloaded gapps-jb-20120726-signed
Added both to SD card
Boot into Recovery
NANDroid backup
Wipe data/Factory reset
Wipe Dalvik cache
Format /system
Install ZIP From SD Card (RoM first then gapps)
Reboot.....wont turn on at all black screen nothing from phone
What am I doing wrong?
Someone please tell me.
Dont format /system. It's not necessary. I do everything you did. Except I Use TWRP... I dont see anything wrong with your process
See and on the first phone I didnt format the system and it bricked so I thought it was because I didnt format the system thats why I did it on my note
Edit: Being a broke college student I can't afford this mistake again. If anyone can help me (specific to this rom) that I'm doing wrong or what may be wrong with my phone that would be awesome.
I did everything right I looked through the rom thread well into 100 pages and nobody has had any issues.
I've never hard bricked any other phone before and I had my original note on another rom as well.
It was only until I used that rom did it hard brick or as far as I know it hard bricked.
Can anybody respond to give me a hint as to what happened?
Post a picture of your note. I want to "see" this device.

Fact of the matter is;
The packaged rom you refer to dose not contain bootloaders. So its really quiet unlikely its hard bricked unless you flash it to a device its not ment for.
The recovery in question is the one I use as well so that also should not cause an issue.
Have you tried a jig? To get back into download mode?
I really want to see this device you own I have a feeling you may be flashing the wrong device files.

This statement made me think of something else:
1: What cable did you use?
2: Were both phones bricked while flashing from the same PC?
I ask that, because if your phone is unplugged part way through a bootloader being installed... But you don't have to unplug it, it could be a faulty USB cable or bad PC drivers :/
Ive rooted and romd a ton of devices myself never ever bricked one until I came across this one... i own a jig and no recovery no boot whatsoever my only conclusion as to why this happened to me.. is a while back people were reporting a few certain phones had a "brick bug" there's an actual app to run and check to give you some peace of mind.

Used the cable that came with both phones, the old cable for the old phone and the new cable for the new phone
both phones used the same pc.(never had any issue before) Both phones were 100% battery and unplugged while installing the roms though\
Only until after installing the roms did the phone not come back on. (meaning after installing CWM I restarted the phone and it started up fine issue only happened after I installed the rom)
Brick bugs?
So squeezed my way into a replacement.
Scared to try another rom but I think that I will try another one and see if it works. My phone will be here tuesday.
Should I use another computer to do load CWM? Throw some advice as I'm pretty sure this is the last time I can get another phone for a while

I bricked a phone and soft bricked a phone and brought it back to normal just recently - The problem that i have is that i actually provide a flashing service to my customers and the guy i had dealt with used samsung kies and downloaded ICS which brings many issues to the table when flashing the easy way. Rather than mess around i decided to go about things the easy way below;
--Enter ODIN mode on i717, Download & Flash the STock Gingerbread 2.3.3 AT&T Rom (which is linked in Da_g's Thread) using ODIN on ur PC i(500MB zip)
--install the DA_G OC root kernel
--then install TWRP.zip via Odin or flash CWM
--then Download and flash Jellbean ROM of your choice / GAPPs. (after you wipe cache x3 and dalvik x3
Make sure you have all the samsung galaxy note drivers installed on your computer... if you are unsure REINSTALL them. Trust me

Hi,
First I would like to say thanks for all the hard and awesome work.
I'm a noob/longime lurker, and don't have enough posts to be able to post on the thread itself, hence the PM.
I just wanted to share a suggestion if you can change your naming convention of your download files on the mirror site (or in general).
I had trouble downloading from the main link which kept timing out on me. So I used the dev-host mirror link, which has 4 links, but ended up downloading the wrong ROM. I should've gotten the i747 one (for AT&T) but instead got the i727 one, as I mistakenly thought these were just all different mirror links to the same file.
Long story short, this ended up bricking my phone, which is now getting exchanged at AT&T.
I know this is completely due to my noobness, and lesson learned,
but my suggestion is if you can change the naming convention of the files, (especially on the download mirror) or somehow make the difference in the files more obvious than just the 1 character digit difference located in the middle of the file name.
This may help other soul avoid making the same mistake I did.

Ok folks, first I am embarrassed, as I am not a developer by any stretch of the Imagination. I am however somewhat familiar with our little Samsung creatures. I have a Verizon note II I was attempting to put the tether mod on when I created a softbrick due to the boot loader being locked. This was, and is odd, as I had TWRP & CWM installed as I had used casual way back when to unlock and root. So when I used Rom Manger to boot into the boot loader it worked fine. I then attempted to uninstall the mod it failed. So I updated the custom recovery CWM via RM and caused a soft brick. After researching what happened I was able to ODIN back to stock. Worked like a charm. So after doing that I went to run Adams Casual again and it stuck on the boot loader and know I see this message. "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." So i figured I would just Odin back again except this time my phone isn't being detected by ODIN?? I am at a loss and need the collective wisdom of the brilliant minds that make up XDA. Thanks in advance. :fingers-crossed:

Brutal. This is good to know though as I'm looking to go back to stock for a bit as well.
Are there any devs working on unlocking it? I'm hoping that our device isn't sinking to the back burner with the Galaxy S4 and Note 3 being on the market now.
Yeah it is brutal!
I am actually OK with it being locked for now, I just need to figure out how to get ODIN to recognize it again so I can get it back to the land of the living. Not having a working phone is the pits. I am wondering if there is a method to JTAG it using an SD card like there is for some of the other Samsung's? Anybody got any ideas for me? I am all ears!!:crying:

I would uninstall then reinstall the Samsung drivers. Then try odin again.
Been There Done That
The title say's it all. I of course welcome all ideas that might resurrect my phone and keep it from becoming a paperweight. :crying:

Casual changes the drivers on one of your USB ports or at least used to (I haven't been with Verizon for a while). So try another port or computer for that matter to use Odin. I forget how to undo that change casual makes

Hi Guys, in urgent need of help. I have a Samsung galaxy S3 I9300 that hangs on boot screen and freezes. The phone will not go into recovery mode at all just goes direct to download mode. I have tried to re-flash the stock firm ware using odin but have run into problems as initially it asked for a pit file and them once I got this fails and says cannot repartition. on top of this I believe the problem with odin may be a comms issue as when I try installing the device drivers when connecting phone to computer, this fails even though I have already downloaded and installed this. I have never rooted my phone but I do believe the phone is soft bricked?
so to summarize there is a comms issue from phone to pc and flash issue which are probably both connected.
any help is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance
What did you install to cause this bootloop?

no the phone has never been rooted can get to download mode but not recovery mode
Try the rescue firmware and pit from general forum. If this fails to flash then your emmc chip is damaged.
