Hi all!
I have the official S-View cover, but the most important thing for me always is having a kick-stand on my phone, ever since the heady days of the HD2.
I'm one of those XDAer's who buys every cheap eBay cover, every possible removable battery etc, etc, but this time decided that battery life is great (until the ZeroLemon comes out) and that I would splash out on the official cover.
So how to kickstand it? Well, apologies for the shoddiness of the design, I just decided to make a trial version and improve it down the line. But even making it shoddily, it stands up well. Very well.
This is no more than simple plastic added to the S-view window. It doesn't add to the thickness of the phone (sitting flush with the rest of the case), it doesn't interfere with the S-View touchscreen, and it doesn't flap about too much. Nor does it touch the faux-leather, as over time it would wear it down).
This is, for now, nothing more than clear plastic and cellotape - but it is invisible and works a treat!
The plastic (---) is cut so that a little portion protudes, so it rests on the metal ridge (____) holding the camera, above the flash. It is also cut so that it can never touch the camera lens (O):

Anyway, I am keen for ideas how to turn the S-view into a kickstand, so if you have better suggestions, please share!!
Great mod!

I haven't seen any info on this case here on XDA yet, so i figured i'd put a quick review out there.
http://www.meritline.com/htc-evo-3d-new-aluminum-metal-hard-case-cover-silver---p-72656.aspx
They have a couple of different colors, black, silver (plain), blue, and pink.
http://www.meritline.com/newsearch.aspx?SearchTerm=evo+3d+aluminum
I found this case while browsing around on Meritline. I've bought a bunch of stuff from them in the past and everything has always been good quality so i figured i'd try this case. For 4 bucks i figured i couldn't go wrong, and in reality i couldn't be happier! The pictures on the meritline site can be deceiving. The main image of the case shows the "inside" on the left, and the "outside" on the right. The outside of the case is what the back of the phone looks like. There is a machined circle pattern on the backside. The inside of the case shows that it is aluminum all the way through, not just a thin plating on the plastic.
The case is a single piece "snap on" style case. The fit is great, really tight and clean. No issues I have seen over the past week or so of use. I purchased the silver colored on. The back of the case is aluminum, the plastic that clips around the phone looks to be molded to it. The case does not add much to the phones overall dimensions, but does add some weight (which i like). My brother picked up a SGSII and it feels like a cheap plastic phone. The 3VO is heavy, and this makes it feel like a brick **** house without making it feel too large (my biggest pet peeve of most cases).
I opted for the Expedited Ground shipping which was 1.99. Standard shipping is free.
Check it out!
Actually - that case was discussed in the larger evo 3D case thread. It looks great, and people liked the fit - but the concern was that the aluminum consistently reduced phone reception and data transfer speeds.

That would be my only complaint. The case is tough to remove.
i found that if you follow my little trick its easy to remove
1.get a credit or store card
2 with the phone on its back screen upwards slide the card between the case and the phones left hand side
3 with the card stuck in there hold the corners of the case amd the topmost black parts of the phone
4 pull!
5 case should move easily and seperate with card falling on floor
easy! no more scraped corners
also when putting it on put the side with the buttons in forst then just gently push the other side into place
just got it ,nice case

The case is like the barely there cases with a slide out kickstand built in.
Putting on the case was like putting on the barely there case. Taking it off is the same. Now using the kickstand....well....it's a hit or miss. You can't really use it in portrait, and I am not sure it's supposed to be used that way. That's because the bottom is exposed so the curve of the phone makes it rock back and forth slightly. Now the beauty of this is the portrait mode. This works the best and most stable.

i will post more stand case pics
don't like the fact that the top and bottom of the phone isn't covered by the hard case.. but it does look quite nice.
the stand case looks almost exactly as one that is available from Verizon w/ a holster. I am using this myself and only because of the stand - i don't mind that the top and bottom are exposed as I'm not really expecting to use the case for protection.
I like the case, how skinny is the case? Does it add much bulk? I like the fact that the top is not covered so I can dock the phone.
the stand hard case is really beatiful AND usefull... a precious things, could you make a little review on youtube ? i like to see it if stay in place well in landscape (i bet in portrait if you plug the cable on top the razr tip).

I wonder if the materials used for the case are cheap...Of course they are not comparable to kevlar, but are they premium enough to keep the sexy look of the phone?

thin and nice
I'm just utterly perplexed why manufacturers make cases for this phone with the SIM cutout.
How often during the day do you need to access your SIM and memory card? In my opinion, they just destroy the aesthetic design of the case.
People may say convenience, but in that theory, all other phone's cases should have cutouts on the back.
It makes me completely pass over a case if it has that cutout. Besides my grievances listed above, it's also another spot for a chip or scratch.
Just stupid in my opinion.

I completely agree with you, but the stand case doesn't have the cut out - one of the few that doesn't
just got mine in the mail today damn nice. touch exterior and the finish is great! even the ultra capsule sgp cases have some molding material hanging on the edges.
I have the same case as OP. And yes, Verizon sells it. I love it! I had the same exact case/holster for my incredible. It suits my needs perfectly. Recommended!

A word of caution:
I've been using a red Nillkin Hard case for a couple of days now and when I removed it there were a couple of red "stains" on the kevlar back. I've tried getting them off with detergent and even rubbing alcohol but they wont even fade. They're really not that bad but it looks a bit like a spilled ketchup and let it dry and it's bugging the hell out of me!

all retailers for this particular case are located in China unfortunately. One of the other two offered a slightly cheaper price but you pay for shipping and it comes out to be about the same as the one from ebay in terms of shipping length and total price. The only difference is you can choose faster shipping but it costs more than the case itself which essentially is pointless. The other retailer sells them in bulk.

i'm a case whore so.........subscribed! please let us know how the case is.
Just got the case in, I'll post pictures later tonight but here are my initial views and opinions:
lightweight, plastic, sturdy. Feels good in hand, thin, not made of the greatest materials but for 6 bucks who can argue. The carbon fiber feel on the back seems all good and fine but thats really about it. Feels more like those skins you can buy online as well.
The cut outs of the case seem to be in all the right places not disturbing the functions of the phone. Although I noticed sliding the 2D to 3D button to be a bit troublesome (not a bad deal for me since I rarely use this), and the volume rocker seems like it needs to be pressed with the very tip of your fingers (this one can get somewhat annoying I can forsee).
This case covers the back well, also covering the camera (of course not covering the lenses, speaker, and LED flash). The case on the sides extend far enough so that the buttons that would usually protrude without a case are protected with this case on. The front however is not well protected, usually a case would somewhat add enough to the front as to not let the glass screen of the phone touch the object you set it on. The problem here is, apart from the screen, the front of the phone is in danger of being scratched.
What this case tries to add is style with a slim feature, although the case adds no added protection whatsoever from drops or aggressive scratches this case is more for people who just like to add a bit of zing to their phone. Another problem though is that this case has no felt or soft covering the inside of the case. The problem here is that if dirt, sand, or anything coarse gets in there it can cause scratches. To add to that also, the case is hard to take off (maybe its just me but I didn't want to force it off). I've had some cases scratch my phone when trying to remove them and I can see this case adding to that as well. I would rate this case a 5 out of 10. 5 for the style, design, and feel but a minus 5 due to the lack of protection, possible scratching, and annoyances of some parts of the case.
**This review is just MY personal opinion and should be taken as just that, an opinion. For 6 bucks you can't go wrong but at least now I have provided you with my own personal feedback to get your brain cells tingling.

Yeah no front protection whatsoever. Pretty much more for looks I'd say
I got one today and its exactly what fsalazar said. Nothing to add or correct. No front protection at all... However, I've noticed that pulling the case off is easier if you've done it a few times and (for me) the easiest way to get it off is by pulling (quite hard) at the bottom.

doesnt add much weight to the device .
Whatever method you use to charge your device (dock/micro USB) you have you Un-flip the cover since there are no openings on the left !

Likewise,I have this case, externally its ok-slim, quite well cut etc.
BUT,internally its totally bonkers, phone is held in with (very) sticky tape, which means
1.you have to really tear the phone to get it out of the case-it will almost certainly pull away the bonded glass back away from the rear of phone over time.
2.If you shut the case when empty,it glues itself together- hard.
3.If you leave the case lying about open-dust,fluff,tobacco,flies etc plaster the sticky tape.
I've heard of thinking outside the box-whoever designed this should be locked in a box... ?

Now thats scary, I am planning to get a customised protective skin for my phone, because 2 days back I used a friends naked Zu and comparatively my phone feels bulky.
So the skin might help it be in original shape and I could even get a carbon fibre or leather feel.
And for the after removal I have kept the original plastic sheet which covered the sticker on the case, I hope that will come to use when I remove the case which will be soon
Sent from my C6802 using xda app-developers app
Hi,trouble with not using the silly sticky strip is-try picking up the case from horizontal(with phone in),and hold it vertically, phone will tend to drop straight out of of the case!Kind of negates the point of having a protective case if it ends up in bits on the floor don't you think! ?

Finally got rid of the flip case .
now I have installed a protective skin all over my phone , with a nano-ceramic screen protector !

The plastic tips feel much better on a tempered glass screen protector than the rubber ones.
Actually the pen is powered by an electrical field generated by the phone. The electrical field is also used to determine pen position. Pen contact is determined by the pressure placed on the point of the pen. To prove this, take out the pen and open action note. Hover above the screen and then press the tip with your finger instead of the screen. You will still place marks on the screen. This shows that the screen does not interact with the pen in any way.

wow thanks i didn't know my extras were of rubber AND plastic. my default one was rubber and it didn't glide as well as i wanted it to (at least on my ebay tempered glass protector). i changed it out for a plastic one and now it's perfect (if anything, too slippery). now i have 1 extra plastic, and 4 rubbers.
OP, try to double check your extras... the plastic tips are even shinier than the rubbers, so you can visually see the difference with a good eye.
I had no idea that it came with plastic tips. I popped one in and the pen is much more enjoyable to use now. Plus there's no more sticky streak marks on my screen from the rubber tip wearing away.
In glad I saw this thread.
just checked my spare tips. 2 plastic and 3 rubber + 1 rubber(original)....seems a bit much on the rubber ones lol..but im guessing they do wear out faster
the plastic ones feel alot...nicer on the screen than the rubber ones lol
Does anyone know where to buy replacement plastic tips? I checked the box and can't find my replacement ones. I've searched and the only option I found was buying a brand new S Pen + the tips for around ~$20. My current rubber tip is almost completely worn out.
