I9100 - Not on registered network - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I got my mum an S2 a few months ago. She was able to use it properly until recently where the phone wouldn't recognise the sim. So i got the sim card changed and the problem persisted.
It kept on saying 'not on a registered network'. I read on the forum that the EFS may need changing. But unfortunately i never made a backup before. so i was wondering if anyone can help me to try to fix it. The IMEI is the same as whats written behind the battery.

Try to change the modem if the problem still there. Then try to vheck it in stock rom.
Go to google and check imei isn't blocked mate. Also delete apn and restore them first.

Thanks for the reply mate.
Quick question. when i flash the modem. do i need to flash the modem for the current firmware again or do i just download any other modem and flash?

[Problem] No SIM Recognition + Blank IMEI

Hi there...
I'm having a problem with my S2, so here's my questions in case you can guide and help me.
I'm went on a trip to Germany and I took my S2 with me. I had the phone on Airplane Mode 99% of the time. I turned off Airplane Mode once or twice, and the phone got Reception (signal), but immediately I turned Airplane Mode on again. I didn't need calling or messaging. Then I bought a prepaid chip from T-Mobile, turned off cell phone, installed the chip, turned on phone but phone didn't "recognize the sim".
So, I turned it off again, insert my original sim (the one I use in Costa Rica), turned on the phone, but again, the phone didn't "recognize the sim". I tried those 2 Sims on another phone in the "T-Mobile Store" and both sims worked perfectly. My S2 also showed a "blank IMEI" fater dialing *#06#.
Now I'm in Costa Rica, and the phone still "don't recognize my SIM" and the "blank IMEI" still shows.
Someone knows what can I do? Im completely lost. I found this tool and this guide. Do yo think I can solve this problem with any of those? Or, what do you recommend me?
My phone is completely stock, no root, no custom roms or anything like that. And it's not on guarantee. I'm pretty much a noob, hope you can help me or guide me...
Thanks a lot in advance!
It seems like your baseband has lost, you can check your baseband in settings-about phone, if the baseband is unknown try to reflash another modem,if you are a newbie, ask for experienced one to help.
The links you provide are not recommended for newbie, and efs backup is no use for this situation that you have no any backups, you can try reflash baseband, that's safer.

Thanks for your answer. You are right, my Baseband is Unknown. So, in order to reflash the baseband I need to reflash the Modem? Will you recommend me to reflash the original Modem or another one?

It's some random bug it happens with some people, happened with me, wasted 1h trying to restore EFS several times, wipe data, flash modem. The solution: wait. Just wait and it might work again. May be the day, the carrier may be screwed,

Won't work. [usually, with luck]
No, I don't have a Custom Rom... I don't know how or why the Baseband changed to Unknown. Ok,I'll try with the original modem. The only way I know how to flash things it's using CWM... it's that ok or should I do it with a different method?
And another question, someone told me that with a Hard Reset, the problem should be solved... do you agree or disagree?
Thanks a lot!

Damn... so bad! Yeah, I read some people with similar problems also in the S2. But waiting it's not so good, I mean, my S2 might be screwed forever? What about a Hard Reset as I wrote before?

There is no harm in trying hard reset, backup whatever you can and try hard reset. If it fails :
for CWM you need to root your device and install CF root kernel first. You should try flashing baseband through Odin. You can find the baseband/modem files and tutorial here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Its far easier than going through CWM, install samsung drivers on pc and you are ready to flash. Do read carefully every step. Good luck.
Ok, thanks a lot. I appreciate your help. I'll try all the above and let you know how it goes.

i9300 Unable to connect/register to network!

Hey guys, I'm in desperate need of some assistance here.
I have an international Galaxy S3 i9300, rooted and with CWM.
I flashed Criskelos XXDLH8 ROM yesterday, and I followed the instructions to the dot.
The flash seemed to be problem free.
However, once the phone booted and i was on the new ROM, i tried to make a call, but I kept getting an error message saying "not registered on network".
I instantly freaked out, and wiped my phone+cache, and flashed stock Samsung ICS (XAALE8) via Odin.
The phone booted normally into the stock ICS. But instead of seeing signal bars on the status bar, all I can see now is just a circle with a line through it . :crying:
I did some research on the net, and didn't really find anything to help me, which is why I'm here, seeking ANY help from you guys.
I'm freaked out guys! Any assistance would be SO appreciated! thank you!

My sim card works on my spare phone, so thats not the problem.. do u think it might be an issue with my sim card slot?
I mean, i didnt physically drop the phone or anything, this issue seems to have originated after flashing that custom ROM...
Thanks anyways for your suggestions mate, appreciate everything I really hope someone can help me out here, im kinda lost..Sigh
Im also encountering the same proble. But instead, i have network signal (there are signal bars), but i am un able to send/receive messages and calls. I still have the same IMEI number but my Serial Number became 00000000.

hey dude,
i tried pretty much every software fix i could find.. but no luck i returned the phone and got it replaced. Apparently, there was an issue with the radio on the motherboard.
Goodluck mate!

Are you sure the firmware is suitable for your model for your phone's factory? There are at least three regions of producing Galaxy S3 International version. Some final product made in Vietnam and Korea has a lot of problems and need to be changed to the board made in China due to software problem. You should try using the "Firmware Upgrade And Initialization" in the "Tools" in the Samsung KIES 2.5 because it will download the latest official firmware according to your model and serial number and it will wipe your phone at the same time.

Thanks for your support.
I tried to repair using the firmware update and initialization, but I could not find exactly where it is. I could reach a pop-up window saying that if my phone had a problem it would be listed in this window... Not sure if I am doing it correctly.
Do you have any tutorial link/post where I can find the proper instructions for it? I am familiar with odin, but not kies...
Thanks in advance!

You can find this function in your Samsung KIES 2.5 which is the software to be installed in your computer. Then you will see the top bar, one of them is Tools and you will find the function in the Tools menu.

It sounds very much like a locked phone that was unlocked in a suboptimal way
Unless you have the original EFS (on which you might try to do a cleaner unlock) you will be "condemned" to always need a patched modem.
The short story is that network locking is done in a protected/checksumed database in the EFS partition and some older unlocks were not even attempting to keep the database "clean" - they were forcing a flag there but since there was some other check at a later time you need a special "patch" in the GSM modem code - that is located in a different partition and might be a little different from one country/carrier to another. Unfortunately the modem is (usually) updated with major ROM updates, so you have now lost that patch - but you can take a look below for a fix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1918601
The bottom line is that (unless you restore original EFS and do a very clean unlock) you will always have to re-apply the modem after you program a new full ROM!

[Q] SIM not detected

Hello xda-developers,
as the title says my SIM doesn't get recognized. But before you all start yelling that this has been answered many times, let me tell you that my problem seems to be a little different:
I have spent the past three hours on finding the solution to this. The most common answer was using GSII_repair, but that didn't work for me...
My phone is rooted and a different SIM card didn't work either.
Do you have any other advice?
Thanks in Advance,
Torron
I assume that you have unknown baseband problem?
If yes, then try flashing another modem via Odin.
Have you got any EFS backup?

Yes to both baseband and efs backup.
What do you recommend in terms of flashing another modem?
Modems are created for each region, but I have XXLPW modem for Odin:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/2mwt1yavc97k3zp/Modem_I9100XXLPW.tar.md5
You can change modem later by flashing CWM package (http://veyka.co.uk/sgs2/radios/).
So, if you have EFS backup, restore it with kTool/EFS Pro.
Thanks, i will try this later today since I can only charge my phone via USB port atm and that takes some time.
Do you have a tutorial for this? It has been quite some time since I worked with Odin...
Also I only have an efs backup after the imei went missing...
EDIT: So i played around a bit, and apparently deleting the efs folder and letting the OS create a new one did the trick

[Q] GT-I9300 not registered on network

Hey, guys!
This is my first post in this forum.
My situation is the following: a friend of mine came to me because her SIII GT-I9300 was stuck in the SAMSUNG screen. After a little research on the internet, I did a wipe data, which did not work. Then I researched a bit more and flashed Android 4.3 using Odin. Android was running OK, but I got "not registered on network".
My question is: in order to fix this problem, should I worry about the IMEI? (when I did the wipe data i didn't do any backup...:silly.
Any help is welcome. Please have in my mind that I'm a noob...

Yes root it then install cwm recovery then download zip file and put it onto your internal sdcard
Then reboot in CWM and use "install from zip".
Well, guys...
I did what you said... didn't succeed. I installed those patches, but it still says "not registered on network".
I wonder if it is an IMEI / EFS folder issue... As I mentioned on the initial post, I don't have a backup EFS folder.
Should I try to flash the stock ROM (I mean, the factory native ROM) so as to try to recover the IMEI?
If so, I don't know what was the original firmware because I got this mobile from a friend.
Any ideas on how to figure it out?
Thanks in advance.

I'm really thankful for the tips... but is there any tutorial on how to flash MG4 modem?
I've had a quick look on the net, but I couldn't find any 'step-by-step'...
I mean, do I have to save those 2 files (modem MG4 + kernel) in the SD card and flash using CWM?
Where can I download it?
Thank you all.

I would go back to an older version of standard rom. See if that restores imei efs back to version 1. Sammy mobile unbranded uk is version 2 so use an older version than that. I have gone back to this from version 4.3 stock. If phone boot loops after flashing do full factory reset. Then check imei. If still not ok. Install kies and it will upgrade to 4.3 and imei will be back.

[HELP] No network connection - NO IMEI disappeared

Hi,
Yesterday since I installed CRISSCROSS ROM I lost signal, I thought was a rom problem, after I tried with CARHDROM and the problem persist so I decided to back to the rom that I always use NEXEFY but It don't solved nothing. I checked the signal status, I can see that I don't have IMEI, appeared like unknow.
I have been searching information about this problem, I find a solution using the EngineedMode (Im not sure if this work) but when I dial *#*#3646633#*#* I don't get nothing, I tried MTK SETTING and the same.
I already tried my SIM card in other phones and worked OK, also other sim card of different brand but the problem persist.
Please I hope can you help me.
