Hi,
I'm having trouble with downgrading a Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-i9300 to a previous ROM.
The device back from SAV is a 4.1.2 and I need it to be in 4.0.4.
The behavior I get is that when I try using ODIN to flash a 4.0.4, radio does not work at all.
Neither voice nor data communication are available.
When I type *#06#, I see that the IMEI number has changed have now have a trailing 0000.
I was said it is because some partition format have changed since and date cannot be read anymore.
I have read the following thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846902) , but it don't seems anyone is having the same radio issue as I.
Have you guys any advice on this ?
Regards,
Downgrade is not recommended .
Suggest you read the faqs and guides relative SDS and EFS/IMEI/
You are also posting in the wrong forum this is not Q&A
This is most likely related to the new efs format. You wont be able to solve it, unless you have a backup of the old efs partition

Flash a new modem and you're good to go. XXEMG4 for example.

Flashing it as a PDA rom will allow me to go back to 4.0.4 then ?

I was curious if there was a way I could revert to stock everything. It would essentially mean having only the files that are available on the s3 out of the box. Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Sorry I was on mobile and didn't realize that. I can try that and get back to you.
Good day.
I was going back & forth from Stock & SuperNexus 2.0 just fine. Then I tried Android Revolution ROM, and now my problem is everytime I flash Stock or any other ROM, I can't text or call. The signal bar is fine. It's just that I can only make Emergency calls and it says Network Not Registered. But if I flash back Android Revolution, it's fine again. I've tried the clean routine (Factory Reset/Wipe Cash/Wipe Dalvik), still no luck.
Anyone encountered this before or any solution/suggestions?
Thank you.

is your imei intact? does it match what is under your battery? how about serial number? did you flash a rom with an mg4 or mg2 baseband? do you have a backup of your efs folder? read these before flashing anything further http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2393289 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2377731
good luck!
Thank you for the reply. Im guessing that's what happened. But I will try to determine if my IMEI changed, so is my efs.
I hope there's a workaround and its reversible.
Thank you again.

if you did not back up your efs folder and if your imei has changed than most likely you flashed a newer baseband from mg4 mg5 or mg6 roms . and then reverted to an older baseband which can no longer read your efs folder. some people have been able to fix the problem by flashing once again an mg4 or mg5 or mg6 rom. perhaps doing this will allow you to regain your network connection and efs folder.
I checked. My IMEI and SERIAL Numbers are still the same with what's written on the back of my phone.
I've also confirmed on the Android Revolution HD 29 thread that it doesn't change the efs.
Any other ideas guys?
Thank you.

android revolution 29 modifies the efs folder so that it cant be used by older modems. it uses the mg4 baseband. since your imei is intact i am guessing that you are either back on android revolution or a rom that uses either mg4 or mg2 baseband as those are the only basebands that will work with the modified efs folder. if you still have no network but imei abd serial number are intact then check your apn settings to see if they are correct and compatible with your carrier

Android Revolution HD 29.0
--- release date: 31 July 2013 ---
•Based on latest official Samsung 9300XXEMG4 firmware
•Other minor changes and fixes
•Included and updated custom components:
I see. Yes, I am on AR29 right now since it's the only ROM I have that's has a working cellular network.
I made a recovery (cwm) backup when I was on SuperNexus, which I had no network problem with.
1) Can I extract my efs from there & flash that? Or...
2) Can I try and restore that backup without any major problems?
My ultimate goal really is to go back to my Stock ROM.
Btw, thank you so much for your patience Sir.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
cwm does not backup efs . for efs backup use hc-ktool from play market and efs pro. make backups and leave them on your ext sd card as well as your computer. you can flash any stock firmware from sammobile.com as long as the rom is in the "G" series. for example mg4 or mg5 or mg6. any rom from a-f will not read the efs as they all use older basebands. basically you cannot go backwards.there are many roms now that use mg basebands if you cant find one that matches the csc for your country than try any other firmware as long as it is a G rom or higher.
Very educational Sir.
Thank you again for your help.
It's much appreciated.
Good day.

you are welcome . good day to you!
I too use supernexus and stock. Also had this issue. You can still use any rom , you just have to flash a mg4 onwards baseband. For example, you can be on the supernexus ROM with mg4 baseband and you can make calls as usual.

No. I guess I'll just have to find ROMS with mg4 onwards. Stock or otherwise.

flash a stock f/w XXEMG4 or later via odin and then root it. then flash any custom rom via recovery(CWM touch or PHILZ). the custom rom(any AOSP rom)continues to use the same modem you have on the stock f/w.
:good:
Thanks I'll try to do it

when you flashed a custom rom you probably used a rom that included a newer baseband. Such as emg2 or emg4. maybe you did not have the correct apn settings and you were not connecting to your network . then when you flashed stock , perhaps you flashed and older baseband. that older baseband can no longer read your efs partition which contains imei and serial. a possible solution if you did not back up your efs folder is to flash an emg2 or emg4 baseband . or a full stock rom which uses an emg2 or emg4 baseband. all of this is explained in the stickies. the best way to learn is to read them. good luck
Ok.thanks. i wil inform

did you try to flash an emg2 or emg4 baseband? some have reported that this can restore network connection
Hi,
After using Android Revolution HD, I flashed back my original ROM. Now the phone doesn't register to the network and my IMEI number is 004999010640000. How can I get my old IMEI back so I can use my phone correctly?
I have to mention that I have no EFS backup.
Thanks in advance...
Did you read the stickies in general? I only ask because there is a whole thread about this.

One thing you can do to possibly recover your imei and network settings is to flash a stock rom that uses mg4 or mg2 baseband. use a rom from sammobile and flash with odin make sure you use a rom with an mg2 or mg4 baseband. good luck
make sure to read the stickies
Flash stock ROM, stock recovery, don't forget triangle away and give it back to warranty, I did this 2 weeks ago, and now my phone's fine (Don't forget and EFS Backup now)

I'm currently running a cm11 nightly, so is it OK to flash an official firmware on top of it through Odin, or do i need to restore the stock backup then flash through Odin?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
No, you can just flash a full stock rom. Make sure you factory reset before you boot the new rom, backup your efs before you flash.

I don't think you understand what I mean. My question was can I flash an official stock firmware through odin if I'm running a custom rom? Yes or No/

Yes you can - but you should pick a stock ROM with the same EFS format as you currently have (or with the same modem you currently have).
What happens if I chose a stock rom with a different modem? Do I brick my phone?
