Hi everybody,
I am currently running stock, and, surprise surprise, have run into a problem. My SD card seems to work fine, I can pop it into my computer via an adapter and use it just like a USB stick. It doesn't have any issues on my phone, either.
Trying to access it from my computer while it is in my phone, however, is another ballgame. With it in camera or media mode, it can read the file structure fine, but it has a really hard time with files. Moving PDFs or images to or from the device is spotty and frustrating - many times it just says the folder is busy, or it freezes, or stops reading files and says the images are broken (they are not).
I don't get why this is happening, since all of the hardware seems to be fine. Any ideas?
Thanks,
-Andrew

Whenever I do a USB file transfer to my phone, Windows complains that there may be a problem with some files and offers to scan and fix the device. Should I let it, or just keep ignoring it?
Running CM7 on the phone and Windows7 on the pc, but it's been doing this for a while, even back on CommRom.
The reason it does that's is because either a) thereis a problem with the SD catftot b) you ate not ejecting it properly from your computer whenever you connect your phone to the PC. Most of the time the latter is the issue. You should let it run but also eject your device properly so you don't mess it up later

So I learned a very interesting tidbit about a year ago. The problem with flash memory is that if the power is disconnected during a WRITE operation, it will kill it (almost definitely). However, if you are only doing a READ operation (copy from device to computer, reading a TXT file, etc), then it is safe to pull the drive at any time.
The long and short of it is that After you have copied files to your phone, Windows continues to write excess data in the background, even after the file transfer dialog has gone away. And on my old mp3 player (Cowon S9) this led to many tears for a lot of people.
So always always always tell your family members who don't know the difference b/t WRITE and READ to simply ALWAYS "safely remove" their flash media.
Thanks folx, I'll let Windows have its way with the card next time it wants to.
I have recently purchased a 32gb micro sd card. When I go to put new music on it, it shows from the pc side that it is loading on the external drive(g2 phone) and form the phone it says that it is on there. However when I disconnect the phone only the last album that I put on there stays and the music player will state that "this type of file cannot be played". I have formatted the card through the computer and to no avail, it acts the same.. I did format it on the Android and it worked, temporarily and could load music from my computer for a few days, then it stopped. I am clueless as to what is going on with it. p.s. I tried placing it in a card reader and it did the same, but i did not format it first that time. I seem to think the android is placing a bad file on it causing all these issues. (again I say this because when I format it through the phone it will work temorarilly) any help would be great, I really want toload my phone with music.

Hi there,
It sounds like you might not actually be utilizing your SD card when connecting to a computer and instead are attempting to load your music directly to the internal phone memory.
Make sure after you connect your phone to your computer via USB that you put your phone in "Disk Drive" mode by dragging down your notification bar and selecting your connection type. Without selecting this option you will not have access to your SD card when plugging in your phone to a PC. Now when you got to "My Computer" on your PC you should see your SD Memory card in addition to "g2phone"
Let me know if you need further help
I'm relatively certain you bought a fake card. A few months ago I was shopping for one myself. I bought 3 different cards, all counterfeit, so I just threw down $100 to get my favorite brand, Lexar, and haven't had any problems since.
The exact problem you seem to be describing is a kind of technology that provides computers with a false amount of flash storage. When it is filled, and then used, only the true space of the card survives, which is why everything else disappears.
If you want to test the quality of the card for yourself, use h2testw 1.4. It is free, and while having a strange name, it is easy to use. You'll know in no time whether you've been scammed or not.
I have checked the card with h2test and it states that it does have 32 gigs on it but that the card is corrupt, I have formatted the quick way with sd formatter. What puzzles me is that at one time I was able to load more on it and now I cannot. I feel that there is a fix, I am just not finding it yet.
So I've been trying all night to transfer a handful of CBR files to my ATP through its USB connection. I'm doing this from my desktop which is running windows 7. (in case any or all of those details might help anyone)
At first, I was trying to transfer with the prime plugged into my keyboard dock with USB debugging enabled. Then I disabled USB debugging. Then I tried, with debugging disabled, when connecting to the tablet directly. Finally I tried connected directly to the tablet, but with USB debugging enabled.
At every step in the process I will get through one folder or so, and then get an error on my desktop that says the device has stopped responding or has disconnected, and the transfer will fail.
With a bit more trial and error it seems to be that any time I interact with the prime in any way while it is transferring (even something as simple as scrolling back and forth a little on the home screen to keep it from going to sleep) it fails.
I'm not rooted, I'm on the standard firmware (.21 - latest as of now), and I've tried restarting the prime.
I can not make these files transfer and it's driving me insane. Anyone have any suggestions or theories on how to fix this?
I was hoping that there would be a response, esplanation, or solution to your post.
I am experiencing the same thing when I try to transfer a Titanium Backup Folder back on to the Tablet, be it to the internal SD Card or the External SD Card.
I've also tried all the options you mention (Debugging ON/OFF, etc.)
Are we the only two people experiencing this?

File transfers
Hi,
I was having the same problems, then gave up and fully charged it,
the next day I adb'd the same blob file and it did it in 5 min, the
night before when it was about a quarter charged it was taking a half
hour and would fail. I had it in CWM recovery. So try fully charging it, I have
also had better luck on a xp machine, then my win7 machine.
I had the same problem on .21 not unlocked nor rooted.
I did full wipe data after upgrading to .21 then connected as MTP and copied files successfully. Hope this help.

not to put you off trying to use usb, i had the same issue transferring 5GB from the prime to PC.
i found using Total Commander 1.0 rc5 for Android with the network addon i could transfer it faster via wireless (only due to the poor performance i had with usb)
so just share the content and drag it across the wifi.
Total commander *www*.*ghisler*.*com/android.htm
Plugins *ghisler*.*com*/androidplugins/
(remove the *, i cant post links yet )
one thing you could try if you haven't is plug it into one of the ports on the back of your computer instead of the front/top/side, sometimes these ports are under powered.
I have this error when i'm trying copy file more than 4Gb to sd card formatted FAT32
might be silly to ask but when you connect did you make sure your on media transfer not the camera one?
This might be the reason. I hate it when this happens when I'm transferring files and I cant change or play with the tablet till its done. Its becoming more of a singletask device. I'm starting to lose faith in Asus tbh.

can anyone help? my pc is no longer recognising the phone when it's connected by usb.
i just want to be able to add/remove some music files and backup my photos, but the pc just says "searching phone".
i've tried manually deleting some music using astro, which has messed thigns up even further, because the music files are gone, but the music player app still thinks they're there
i think im going to do a total restore if i can get the thing connetced so that i can backup my photos :S
frustrating...i bought this phone because i had so many issues with my old htc, and now i'm getting issues again already with this phone
when i first got it a couple of weeks ago it was flawless, smooth, eerthing was great, except battery.....but already things are going wrong
so, after much research, i have managed to get the pc to recognise the phone to an extent by clearing data on mtpapp
problem is, even with a virtually empty phone, it's taking around 20 minutes after connection before the internal storage is recognised.
and even then, it is basically inaccessible still
i can "see" all the files in explorer, but as soon as i go to copy things to or from the phone, it gets part way through the process then freezes up completely so that i need to restart windows explorer
is there no way to make the phone have a siple drag and drop interface that actually works? christ, even my wildfire s was easier than this!
I've somehow been stuck with this issue for a short while.
I'm running Omega v34 JB 4.1.2 on my Galaxy S3 32GB. Tried both stock and Siyah 1.3 - 1.8 kernals.
Basically, hook my phone up to my computer in Media mode, transfer a file to the phone and the transfer will randomly time out. When it times out, the progress bar will just sit there and not progress at all, i'm constantly having to physically connect/re-connect my phone. This issue has existed since v33 of JB when the test firmware was leaked. I tried flashing back to v31/32 and doing full wipes but the issue still exists. The issue can occur within 10 seconds of transferring the file(s).
This happens when transferring to internal or external storage on the phone
Happens on any computer. Also tried different cables/USB ports/etc
Tried googling and searching this form but it almost appears I may be the only one with this issue...
To get around it i've tried using UMS to mount the ext storage as a USB Mass Storage device.. this works fine. Transferred files in one 30 minute continuous session, everything copied, nothing stopped or timed out.
But either in MTS or Camera mode, transferring data will eventually grind to a halt and I have to keep disconnecting/reconnecting in order to get it to work. It's a pain if I have to transfer multiple files.
Any ideas?
Also, has anyone else had the charging issue? Where the phone seems to charge as per normal via AC but ever since JB came in for the SGS3, the phone either takes an eternity to charge via a USB data port or it very slowly drains.
I can't even transfer data via USB on my device. Maybe try Wi-Fi file transfer or Wi-Fi droid.
I have Charing problem as well, but different. Phone randomly says it's charging when it isn't, and phone won't chare at all of powered off...

I have the same issue with media transfer, It's like someone pulls out the usb cable from either end!
I've given up trying to find a solution to this. I now just use FTP with ES File Manager and filezilla on the laptop. works like a charm
