Factory Image won't flash in Odin, bricked. - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

After realizing something was wrong with my stock recovery, since it would get stuck in odin mode if I tried an OTA update, I attempted to flash the stock VRUAME7 image with Odin. Unfortunately, it gets stuck with only a tiny blip of a progress bar on the phone. I let it sit for a good 45mins and finally risked pulling the plug. Of course, it now says I need to use Kies to do an emergency recovery. Kies doesn't see the device at all at that screen so now I'm at a loss for ideas. I've tried flashing it again with Odin, since that actually does recognize the device, but with only the same results. Since I can still get in Odin-mode, I'm hoping this is only a softbrick. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah its a soft brick hard bricks wont boot to download mode. After downloading the image are you sure the md5 was correct? sounds like it might be a bad download. Youre also positive you were on me7 before flashing the me7 image?

Does the md5 check? Sounds like a bad download of the stock firmware. What error does Odin give?

The md5sum checks out. I'm pretty certain I was on ME7 since it was failing the current update which is MI1, correct? Odin doesn't give an error until I pulled the plug. It acted as if it was still sending the update even though the progress bar on the phone didn't budge past a millimeter.

It serves me right for not double-checking these things before I start. It appears I was on MI1 before I started. I figured it couldn't hurt to try flashing MI1 at this point and, sure enough, it flashed just fine. Thanks everyone for the ideas!

[Q] Sch-i545 Soft Bricked (Semi-Noob)

Alright guys as my title states I pulled a "noob move" and it looks like I've soft bricked my phone (It won't boot past the verizon splash screen). I've done a little research and I'm pretty familiar with Odin and how it works. Seems to be the same concept as jungle flasher and I've modded a few 360's in my time. I've tried, to no avail, to flash my phone back with the stock image numerous times and I figured it was time to consult the experts. What I've done so far: Downloaded the factory stock restore TAR from Rwilco12's site and put that in the PDA file browser of Odin. My phone shows up in Odin when connected in download mode with a light blue com:4 box. I read sometimes this is supposed to be yellow? Other versions of Odin it is yellow. This instance was attempted in 3.07. 1.85 it shows up as yellow. Regardless of either version, they both fail after the "aboot" step. I've tried two computers and have failed miserably all morning. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

I have tried doing the data wipe/factory reset but it kept saying error. and now it says Firmware upgrade encountered an issue please select recovery mode in kies and try again. That's when going to the volume up "recovery" mode. Volume down, "download" mode still works fine.

Can't Reflash VRUAME7 - HELP!

I have a Verizon Galaxy S4 and after I flashed what I thought was a recovery of CleanROM it turns out it was actually VRUAME7 (Found Here).
Since I was under the impression it was CleanROM, I tried flashing the stock image of VRUAMDK (also found at the link above).
Obviously, my GS4 didn't like that move, and got mad, now I am not able to flash VRUAME7, it keeps failing in Odin.
Any thoughts?

If you're at ME7, installing a recovery will fail. You must recover by flashing stock. If your download is failing in Odin, then it's not ME7 or corrupted, so try again.

There have been quite a few people in the same situation. Theres no reason me7 shouldnt take unless you got bad or the wrong files. Is it by chance giving you the error when flashing aboot?

Well, As it turns out... it was my USB hub. My USB cable was going into a hub. For the hell of it I decided to move my usb cable to a port directly on my PC and it worked.

Don't feel dumb, anyone could have made that mistake! I learned the phone must be connected to a USB port on the PC and not to a hub while flashing a stock Moto ROM to my Motorola V9M and how long ago was that?
http://mark.cdmaforums.com/USC-V9M-Monster1.htm
It was 2008 or earlier. I can't remember breakfast so there's no way I can recall all the way back to 2008!
It's easy to forget and even easier for the devs to not mention this in their instructions for flashing!
FWIW, I do use a powered hub now and I don't have any problems but I think it depends on the hub, on the PC (specifically the Motherboard) and on the USB handling of the OS so what works for me may or may not work for anyone else.
Again, don't feel dumb, just be glad it was an easy fix!

No problem. It's important to note that it initially worked in the HUB, but somewhere down the line there must have been some communication errors. So, just because it worked once, doesn't mean it will always work.

[Q] cannot factory reset

First off your phone isnt bricked, its not even soft bricked. Your phone cant boot to stock recovery because you attempted to overwrite it with a custom version. Youll have to flash the stock me7 image via odin to get back your stock recovery. All the stock images can be found in the dev section. There is also a no wipe version if you apps/data you dont want to be wiped during the process.
Hit thanks if I helped you out. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk.

If it failed after flashing aboot you were trying to flash mdk which you cant do. Prior firmwares are blocked. Me7 doesnt block odin flashing you just have to flash the me7 stock file.

Not a problem, yeah just make sure its the me7 image or it wont flash. Also when flashing me7 if youre still getting errors it could be a corrupted download so verifying the md5 after the download is suggested.

[Q] Unbrick Samsung Galaxy S4

So i have Samsung Galaxy S4 that is stuck in the Firmware upgrade encountered error mode. I was attempted to root it with the Odin and Root_de_la_vega.
My phone is a Galaxy S4 SCH-I545 - VRUDMl1
I already attempted to do a Kies Recovery but it is telling me my S/N is not correct. I tried every word/letter underneath the battery.
I already saw the No-Wipe Factory Image Guide. I tried that but it fails everytime when it gets to the point that says ABoot. Don't really know whats left i can try.
Any help would be much appreciated.
thanks

[Q] I need to factory reset. I don't care about losing data.

Okay, so I don't know the technical term for what's happened to my phone, although, I can tell you that I cannot turn it on with the power button. The only way to get it on is plug it into my charger via micro usb. Recovery mode is unable to work. I can get into download mode though. And if I don't hit any buttons, it just said "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again".
I just want to be able to use my phone again, I'm totally alright with having to wipe every bit of data off of it and have it absolutely factory new. How can I do this? I could use Odin or Kies. However, Kies can't recognize my phone and just says "Device not responding. To resolve the issue, reboot the device." I'm tried dozens of times, it just can't find my device.
Please help.. I am phoneless and I could care less about losing data at this point.

Some people have had success with pressing the volume keys while in that "Firmware upgrade" error, causing the phone to continue to a normal boot. It's worth a try. Failing that, download the proper ROM image for your phone and flash it using ODIN.
If you don't know what build it has, I'd start with flashing a no-wipe MK2 image.
First, how'd you get to this point. Was this associated with rooting / flashing / something else? When you get into download mode, are you trying to Odin something in? It shouldn't say "Firmware upgrade encountered..." unless you're trying to push something. What happens when you get into recovery mode?
Second, do you know which factory image you started with? That's important, because if you started with an earlier image and flash an newer one, you can't go back. and the earlier the image, the easier the root.
This thread has no-wipe factory images. They're large files, so heads up.

Well initially, yesterday my phone crashed and I couldn't get it back on, unless I charged it and a grey battery icon would pop up and it'd vibrate every few seconds but nothing would happen. I couldn't get into recovery there either. So I got into download mode and I looked for things that could get me into recovery mode so I could factory reset. I flashed something on it using Odin and it worked.. To a point. On startup(plugging phone in) It would bring me into the samsung logo and the blue text in the top right saying recovery, but then the phone would just stop. And it'd be in a boot loop doing this until I unplugged. Now I woke up this morning and I'm getting this new error from Kies. I have the files that I flashed it with last night.

I have the files that I flashed it with last night.

how did it crash in the first place? and also, it's important to know what you flashed through odin to understand what's going on. we may never figure that out so.... it looks like you lost recovery. the only thing left is download mode. (If you can't go into download mode, I don't know any other options.)
read up on which factory image applies to you and odin it. you'll start fresh and then need to root to.

I'm totally fine with losing my root, and my old rom and stuff.. I could care less. I know how to root and its very easy along with getting safestrap going again. However, I was on MK2 and I don't see that in the list of images.
(I wasn't able to put my link in, but I just saw something on a website regarding Odin, and using the "re-partition" check box. I used that(it said to on the instructions) and the thing I just saw said to NEVER use that) I flashed that and with pit. I'm new to odin sooo yeah I don't necessarily know everything that goes on.
Also, the phone crashed in what seemed like a completely random flash... I was literally just on snapchat, things froze up, and my phone started doing the boot animation for Hyperdrive 15(The rom I was running) but it never finished, half way through, the phone turned off.
Mk2 came after those, so do a search. With Odin you shouldn't touch anything except load the file in the second slot. I forget what it's called. Read the Odin tutorials

So this factory image, wouldn't I want one that DOES wipe the phone? Since I just want everything to be clean and new again?

Okay, I finally flashed the MK2 no-wipe on it after many hours of downloading. Now it says "RESET" on odin and it showed samsung logo, and the recovery blue text in the top left, but then that just went to a black screen, and now I'm just getting vibrating every 2 seconds with a black screen.
EDIT: Okay so I tried seeing if download mode still worked, and it did, so I just told it to restart the phone from that and now its back to what it was doing originially. It shows the gray battery with the circle loading thing frozen in place, that stays there for a second, then screen goes black, vibrates, and it repeats this.

Link maybe? I'm fed up with downloading the wrong thing and screwing my phone over.
Flashing as PDA.
Also, read the edit I made to that post to make a more accurate response maybe?
I'll try to find it when I get to my laptop. There's a possibility your phone just bonked hardware wise. Hard to say.

If that doesn't work for you try MJ7

Those are the only two that you can go back and forth between.

Alright so I flashed the full wipe correctly and everything looked like it worked fine. But it just says "RESET" on Odin and its trying to start the phone and it shows the samsung logo but its defaulting to Recovery Mode, but after the samsung logo, and the blue text in the upper left corner "Recovery Booting..." it just black screens and boot loops like that. I believe this is because I flashed a thing on Odin yesterday that was supposed to make the phone go into Recovery(it wasn't working by holding volume and power). Any way to get rid of this stupid default recovery thing?

If MK2 is not getting you fixed up try MJ7. That should fix you right up. You should be back to business as usual. Sometimes you just need to try try again lol
