So i would post this under the cm forum but i dont have enough posts. Obviously i lost the knock feature on cm. i have installed screen off and nova and it works great. However, the feature does work when on the lock screen. For example ill knock on to check the time, but in order to turn the screen off i need to put my password in hen knock off. Any ideas?
I set my nav ring pull up to be screen off instead of Google now....this allows me to swipe up for screen off even on the lockscreen...Hope this helps you!

Knock on works in CM.....been using it for a week. From what I understand it's kernal based so it should work regardless of rom. Did you flash a different kernal maybe?

That's because knock-on is kernel based whike knock-off is software based.

So do you think knock off will be apart on cm? Seems just as important as knock on?
It isn't really needed, because you can add that functionality with multiple methods. You can configure a launcher to run an screen off app. On some Custom Roms you can add a longpress function on the navigation bar - I do so to turn the screen of. This eliminates the need to go to the homescreen and double tap. You can also add a tile to the quick settings etc. ...

hi all, as the title tells is there a way to make it possible? a single tap, double tap or as per user choice, or touching specific area in the display to wake the screen.
the display does wakes from sleep mode when receiving mail, calls extra without touching the keys, so can the same mechanism be achieved to unlock the screen?

This thread may be a good start. It's an app that lets you re-map the double tap to launch a certain apk. If you somehow change that to the unlock command or create a very basic app that unlocks once open then it should work.

according to me its a wierd feature..that requires tap to unlock......

tapping to unlock is a ****ty idea that all nokia symbian based phones exists......
so devs doesnt focussed on this .........
try widget locker or go locker, it provides as many as better nd good screenlocks than u said to make implement by devs.......

Put it this way, how about waking the phone from sleep mode using tap instead of pressing power key or home key. Won't that be useful ?

I think if that's the case (waking the phone by just tapping and not through the power button) buddy then the phone should be awake to recognize the tap causing battery drain and prevents the phone from going to deep sleep. On the other hand unlocking the phone by double tap might just be a good idea

I wonder what happened about this? Would really be useful, no progress eh?
Does anyone know if a rom which has options "tap to wake" or "tap to unlock" as in G2 ?
You need modifications in kernel in order to do this, and I doubt it would be battery efficient enough to make it work on this phone.

I don't know how many people actually know this, and if this is common knowledge I do apologize, but I thought I'd share how I did it.
Install Screen Off, launch it once to give it administrative rights. Go to Nova Settings, set up a double tap gesture to launch that app, and you have a pretty well-working "knock off" function.

This is a very good solution if in fact, you are using Nova Launcher. The problem I ran into with this is the effect is really fast. I mean that sounds like a nitpicky gripe, but it bothered me immensely that Nova wasn't quite as smooth as the stock launcher and since the phone is so uber fast, this fix is kinda glitchy looking since the screen off speed seems more than doubled. I'm not sure how to explain what I mean, but it bothered me. There are things that I just preferred about the stock launcher. I know that may seem crazy, but to each his own I guess. I would prefer an AOSP ROM with working Netflix using the stock LG launcher with AOKP UI and custom framework. This is why I haven't changed my ROM at this point. I'm picky.
I know, Nova feels hacky. It's a hard tradeoff more smoothest launched I've tried so far is the stock launcher on my 4.4 n4.
I ran aosp for about two days, it wasn't a very good experience. Especially not if your eyes get sore by rough edges. You should try Rayglobe rom. Will reply when I've found a better solution.

Edit:
The knock-off effect appears identical to the LG animation for me. It just simply starts the standard fade-out animation instantly. It should be the same as tapping the status bar twice, up there is default LG behaviour.
Yeah thats a good solution but i prefer the pie way.I m using pacman rom with pie controls, the wake up knock on working and when i want to close the screen i put a power button to pie controls.more easy no hitting the screen
If you do this does a double tap anywhere trigger the action? I double tap to zoom on webpages, so I'd need it restricted to the status bar.

No need for another app if you have tasker installed. Just do a task for System Lock. Then under nova, select that task.

It should work by default for any rom (as far as I'm aware). Double tap to zoom will still work as Nova is a launcher, not an UI. It's an app. Your browser is an app and if you're in your browser, then the app Nova will not take precedence over that open app.
If you cant stand that knock off is gone on your custom rom that you have happily flashed on your g2... ive noticed alot of people asking so here is a few solutions if you already dont have one! Got a better way? Suggest it! Will edit if necessary.
1. If you dont use google now from your home button swiping up... download the app in the link below!
{FOR CYANOGENMOD USERS} Your rom already comes with a toggle for this... accessible from SETTINGS>>INTERFACE>>QUICK LAUNCH SHORTCUTS... obviously slide up and set it as "Screen off" towards the bottom of the list.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
>> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock&hl=en <<
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once you have that downloaded you can now swipe up like you would normally access google now... it will now give you the option to set a default for the screen off application, do it and now you can swipe up from anywhere on your device (Even the lockscreen) to turn off your screen without having to touch the buttons on the back! (Now i noticed when i was running an AOKP rom this didnt work every time as due to the fact every time it would shut off it would turn right back on... if thats the case for you try out option 2!
2. [YOU WILL NEED THE SAME APPLICATION AS IN OPTION 1] This is a simple bit, but your rom might not have this capability... if you go to your navbar settings you should be able to enable long press actions for buttons... select any button you'd like and set the long press for the application you have downloaded!
3. [YOU WILL NEED THE SAME APPLICATION AS IN OPTION 1] And lastly your third option... this should be if neither option 1 nor 2 work for your custom rom which they should... This one however is not easily accesible from any screen on your device only your home screen... first things first download that application above, now you download a launcher such as Apex launcher which i would reccomend because it allows this without paying for the full version and i tend to like apex alot better, from there go straight into your apex settings and go to behaviour... check out those gestures and set that application as your gesture! Nova launcher's is pretty self explanitory if you have prime. after that your good to go! Easy accesable screen off techniques you cant live without on the g2, hope this helps some of you!
I have another idea. Use GMD gesture control and use the edge of your screen to turn off the phone, or even double tap the nav bar (the app is ridiculously useful)
Sent from my LG-D802 using xda app-developers app
Another option for CM Roms is to use the app below which gives you the option to Knock Off from anywhere on the entire home screen when using Apex or Nova and then have a double tap set or any other gesture you like up to execute this app.

My main reason for loving Knockon (and not jumping to any rom) is the wake up feature though. This is the first time that I have an android device where I don't rape the power button just to look at how pretty my lockscreen or launcher is.

Does the V10 allow you to put a widget on the second screen? It suddenly occurred to me that if I were able to put a zooper widget there then the second screen would be only limited by my imagination...
As far as I can tell, the answer is no.
I wanted to put a flashlight widget on there, and there is no option to put widget.
There is a flashlight option there when main screen is asleep, but when you have it unlocked, its a different set of options.

Thanks for the feedback. Probably not a deal breaker for me, was just curious.
I am surprised there is a lack of customization for this screen. Coming from the note 4 edge, I was used to limited options but with a least a solid set of choices for configuration. Hopefully this will be expanded for my V10
Those hoping for root/custom roms probably have high hopes for unlimited possibilities in regards to the second screen.
I am not looking for root. But I'd like to see what if anything gets added and or changed when LG rolls out the 6.0 update for our pretty little devices. I haven't even played with mine yet its waiting for me to get home from school today. UPS hid it well I hope.

When the main screen is on there is a flashlight in the notification bar when you pull out down. Put the down arrow key in the home touch button section and you have as many steps to the flashlight as you would if you could put a widget in the second screen.

Yeah I am aware of that selection. I just don't care for the chunky look of it.
But thank you for pointing it out nonetheless.
I'd really like to see the whole notification pull down revamped into something slimmer.

So because you don't like the look you won't use the feature?
I had the G3 and LG skipped the notification flashlight in the Lollipop update. It was the first thing I checked for on the V10. I guess I'm not really picky about how it looks as long as I have the feature that doesn't require extra apps.

Agreed. The flashlight in the pulldown is very nice, and having a quick access when the screen is off (second screen) is even better. Coming from the G3 as well. Very useful.

Nope, think you misunderstand or read way too much into my comment. I of course will use the ability that is there. I'd prefer it to be available on the 2nd screen, and I don't care for the look or of the notification pulldown.
I'd say that area is the least attractive part of the whole phone. Of course, that is not going to make me not use the phone either.

It is on the second screen. When the main screen is off you slide from right to left and the flashlight widget is there. Doesn't make sense to have it also on the second screen when the main screen is on since it's in the notification pull down.
Sorry for the misinterpration.
Of all the Android skins I like LG's the best. I've had pretty much all manufacturers.
Of course I would love to have Android exactly the way Google designed it but I haven't seen any device that I like with pure Android.
I posted this on the ZTE Community forums, and thought I'd add it here as well.
The notification bell on the lockscreen is a major annoyance for many of us. I was looking for some other way to manage this, but lockscreen widget apps don't work, and most lockscreen apps don't support the fingerprint reader, Smart Lock, or double tap to wake. After reading a lot of reviews, I'm cautiously optimistic about Next Lock Screen, an Android app by Microsoft, of all things! This app sort of runs "on top" of/with your built in lockscreen. It shows the notifications, right there, no bell, and it still works with the fingerprint reader and the double tap to wake feature on my ZTE Axon 7. It claims to still work with Smart Lock, but I haven't been able to try that yet.
Google Play Store Link: Next Lock Screen - Android Apps on Google Play
In the Next Lock Screen settings, set the "Screen Lock" option to "System" to keep your double tap to wake, fingerprint, PIN, etc. just as you already have them. If you do this, you will still get a glimpse of your old ZTE lockscreen now and then, when you try to go into the Next Lock Screen settings, and it shows you the ZTE screen and makes you fingerprint scan before changing settings.
The Next Lock Screen is not quite as fast as the ZTE Lockscreen, so you glimpse it briefly before your homescreen, when the device unlocks.
I like the app that you suggest, but is there a way to keep showing ZTE wallpapers? ZTEs setup keeps changing wallpapers everytime the screen wakes up. I kinda like the feature. I know the Next Lock Screen app has a similar feature with Bing wallpapers, but that is only once per day.
I've been using Next for the past week to get around the bell and it works quite well - especially with the fingerprint sensor. Very surprised that it took MS to make a very useful and intuitive lockscreen for Android. Of course, I'd rather have pure Android instead of an app work around.
That bell is truly a feature that i dont understand. So, si annoying and stupid.

Basically any 3rd party lockscreen, like Next, AcDisplay, Ambient display, etc, will disable the stock lockscreen when the 3rd party app takes control. It's a work-around. People probably want some kind of interaction from the lockscreen anyway, and this is a way to get rid of the stupid bell and get that interactive display at the same time.
Edit: I missed the post before yours. I do hope that someone creates an option in settings on a future ROM to disable it directly though. After root and bootloader unlock of course.

or just shout about it loud enough at ZTEs, so that they will make it an optional feature in coming updates... there is a bunch of optimal features they should integrate:
- optional bell on lockscreen
- optional on-screen buttons (as chinese 6gb versions have already)
- optional black/dark theme (specially with that amoled display)
... will tell more when I got the phone :silly:
I kind of defeated the bell using Tasker to simulate a touch right where the bell is. Unfortunately it simulates a touch even when I use the finger print. Not really sure which is more annoying, the bell or having a touch in the upper left every time the screen comes on. That's how ****ing annoying this bell is.

How's that a root workaround? The method you described can be used without root as well and the problem with it is that it doesn't support the fingerprint scanner.
Does anyone have a stock android lockscreen app so I can install is as a system app and delete ZTE one? Thanks

Still, that was rather clever of you. :good:
I figured out how to have the bell auto open with Tasker. I uploaded the two profiles that are needed to do this. Probably not the most elegant Tasker work but meh it works. This works by simulating a touch where the bell is when you are on the lock screen but not when you use finger print unlock.
Looks like you need root for this.
To import: Save xmls to /sdcard/tasker/profiles
Load up tasker and long press profiles and hit "import".
