Restored EFS Still not working - Emergency calls only - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
Recently reverted back my gt-i9300 back to I9300XXEMG4. I was on a build of AOKP and that was working fine.
I did a full wipe, Flashed successfully via odin, Saw the Emergency calls only, Restored my EFS using EFS Professional.
I did read this post (I think this could be related to the EFSv2/v1. But I thought MG4 supports both, So thats why I'm scratching my head.

I'm not sure what is going on to why it wont register, the IMEI shows correct in the status screen and so does the serial number, I've wiped and rebooted a couple times, Also tried removing SIM and re-inserting it.
If anyone has any ideas I'm up for it.
I do have a couple backups of the EFS from EFS Pro.
Thank you

Hi,
We have a sticky thread all about IMEI / EFS issues. This is because if you do a search here now, you'll find literally hundreds of threads all about the same thing.
Please go to:

Ok just in case anyone is looking like I was for three days. . The nv_data folder that many remember from s2 and s3 is not on the s4.. It is just the efs folder. . I did an efs-pro back up. .a nandroid.. And used philz cwm to get an efs only tar and img.. feeling backed up now hope im right and was not mislead.

So I was trying to take be smart and decided to back up my efs folder with efspro.. One it had no option for verizon model the latest version has snapdragon and international so I chose snapdragon. Back up worked then I tries the NV.. did the ##dmmode# dm on and nv backup which said command sent but my phone just rebooted so I am not sure if it did anything. Question is there an app that can do this from the phone.. if not why not lol.. and if not is there an easy way that I am missing to do this... I am very newb.. my last phone was a charge and all I did was flash like nuts.

Recoveries can back it up. It's one of the options in twrp when making a backup.

Um so you can also do a dd of the efs partition I don't know the partition number but it will be something like dd if=/dev/block/platform/.../by-name/efs of=/sdcard/efs.img
Update:
Nandriod backups work on file systems that are lower than recover. This means recovery/system/data/cache. You will have to use a backup partition tool or the dd method above.

;| ohh I did do an efsprofessional but when I selected the phone they didnt have sch-i545 they had snap dragon or international so I dont want to trust that. I also copied the folder with file explorer but I with my limited tech skills can only assume its just not that easy.. Ill have to try the DD method just need to find the copy paste commands since thats how I live with linux. I also did the NV backup with the same program but the phone just rebooted so I think that didnt work. I posted on the forum for the tool but no response yet. Thanks I am glad you posted I would crack if something happened and my backups did nothing..

[Q] I9300, 00499 IMEI, Possibly 'Locked' to T-Mobile UK

Hi all,
In a bit of a pickle. I have flashed many phones, and this time I obviously didn't do enough homework.
What I did:
My S3 keeps losing data intermittently, so I thought having done this to a Razr, SGH-T809, G1, etc - I'd flash the latest OS - 4.2.2 (i9300xxufme7)
I downloaded Odin and installed CF-Auto-Root-m0-m0xx-gti9300
I then used Odin and flashed i9300xxufme7
I then was happy as larry, at how simple the process was - however, it turns out I now have an IMEI of 00499 and no phone number.
I am on T-Mobile UK, however the phone was purchased through a reseller (Mobiles.co.uk) so I'm not sure if it's a T-mobile phone, or a vanilla S3 that they supplied. I have never tried a different Sim card in it. It may well be locked.
What I have tried to do:
Re-flash to the standard 4.1.2 image which I thought was I9300XXEMG4_I9300OXAEMG4_BTU (this is I believe the UK image) - no change
Used NV Read write - I put my phone in RNDIS + DM + MODEM but the device isn't recognised.
Just wondering what my options are at this point?
Thanks.
Darren.
As per thousands of identical posts .
Restore your backed up EFS folder .
Fail to backup EFS then its a paid for service centre job .

Yeah, I have read this advice but I could only see it mentioned in posts from August - and since then found tools such as NV Read write, so wasn't sure if that was still the way.
I am going to try and flash TMU-I9300 to see if that will help in the first instance.
I also read that backing up the EFS folder is part of the installing ROM process by default, so could there be an EFS Backup made automatically?
Thanks for your quick reply. I'm surprised I never read the EFS backup procedure whilst doing my home work (for example, it's not written on the Sam mobile guide I followed).

Yes some custom roms backup if you choose EFS backup . It is EFSbackup tar file .

Its plastered all over the forum from week one .

Okay so because I didn't flash a custom ROM per say, no efs backup would have occured?
And I didn't read from week 1, this phone is almost 2 years old - I read the most up to date information and a step by step guide on sam mobile. Hind sight is a great thing, you obviously have it in bundles!
Well if we ignore retrospect for now and just concentrate on moving forward; you need to send for repair. I'm sure lessons have been learnt and efs backups taken before flashing next time

I got this guide .....
Step 1) restore efs backup
Step 2) try reflash original rom
Step 3) if you were ever on mg4, ensure you stick with mg4 baseband
Step 4) send for repair
There's your guide.

[Q] IMEI changed to 004999010640000

Hey everyone,
I recently flashed a ROM on my girlfriend's phone and due to an issue with the messaging app not working I decided to flash the ROM on top (the ROM had an option within the Aroma installer to change the messaging app whilst removing the previous one).
When I rebooted the device I realised that the phone had no signal. I checked the thread and found that the fix was to flash the same ROM again, wiping data, etc but to choose a different modem.
That didn't help so after searching some more on the thread people were mentioning that I should restore the EFS. I had made a backup previously so I used to restore the EFS using EFS Pro.
Upon a reboot I discovered that the IMEI had changed to 004999010640000 and the phone can only make emergency calls.
I have checked many threads regarding the changed IMEI and I have tried many of the fixes but to no avail. I have fully restored the phone to stock, tried many different modems and have tried restoring the EFS using different methods.
Does anyone have any ideas regarding any further methods I could attempt to restore the IMEI?
Thank you.

Follow the link in my signature to general sticky roll-up. Then read "Imei / efs - know this stuff". This includes everything you can do and the last option is send for repair. If you have already tried everything in that thread, send for repair.

Some people say to try to extract efs folder
Delete content of the existing one and copy paste the backup onto the folder and reboot solved their issues

Thank you so much! After reading the sticky (apologies for not viewing it before but I wasn't aware of it's existence), I found out what the issue was and sorted it out within minutes.
For others that might have the same issue as me, when I restored the EFS backup I did actually solve the issue, the problem was that I was on the wrong baseband due to when I restored to stock.
Flashing the Aroma baseband package (which can be found in the sticky) after restoring my EFS backup resolved the problem.
After reading the sticky (apologies for not viewing it before but I wasn't aware of it's existence),
Was that due to it being hidden or some other problem .
Its no good us telling users to read the basics if they cannot find them .

Tried with a few phones and currently my S3 does not work. Been trying all the fixes (u name it i ve tried) last 2 days, driving me mad, my phones goes from 000049 imei to original( serial no.intact) depending on which modem i flash it still don't connect to my network. Was able to save my Note 2 in one go. Why is it that only Samsung phones have this problem, SDS, lost of imei etc, still think the best phone to play around with is LG ( can purposely brick the phone n revive it :laugh tho its not very popular. My fav is still HTC

[Q] Restoring Phone

A while ago I rooted my phone and I wanted to try out CM. I really liked it but since I installed a RC i thought it drained my battery. So I installed the stable version instead. Before installing the new version I made sure to backup my, at that time, current version and also backup my user data with Titanium (pro version). I made sure to wipe the cache and data and dalvik.
When it was al done I tried to restore my apps with Titanium, but all the data was gone. It doesn't detect any backed up apps. Well then I tried to restore the whole system. But this time CWM didn't detect any backups either... It's really weird, because when I use any file manager I can see the backup. I can access all the data and everything from the file manager but CWM can't detect it.
Does anyone know anything about this? Maybe I can just use file manager to fin the app data I'm looking for and just copy paste? Or is that too old school? . I tried to find Titanium data in the CWM backup but I can't restore any data from it... I don't know how it really works.
Actually it's only a few apps that I need to restore, I don't care about the rest of them.
Thanks!
BTW my CWM-based recovery version is v5.5.0.4 :: CF-v1.3
You've got a really old cwm, that's why. Read general > sticky roll-up > "flashed 4.2? Can't find your /sdcard data?"... this will explain why. Cwm doesnt support "0" (which will make sense once you read the thread).
Also titanium, you need to use preferences > backup folder location > scan entire device whenever you've done a clean install

Thank you! I found the app data. And I also downloaded Rom manager and installed CWM recovery v.6.... Maybe I will need it later on.
And an off topic question. I have the latest CM (10.1.3). It was a while ago I used a rooted device. I noticed that they have added "CyanogenMod Updates" in "About Phone" menu. How does that work? Do I have to clear data, cache and dalvik every time there is an update? Or can I just update without wiping anything? Sorry for the off topic question but I just thought that I might get a quick answer.
Thanks!
It works very badly with android 4.2 /sdcard structure. Recommend avoiding all cyanogen update methods until they sort it out
Get rid of rom manager

Do you mean that I shouldn't use CM or just the Update method they provide? Because i like CM a lot, really satisfied with it.
How do I flash philz and what benefits comes with it?
BTW I'm not looking to install new ROMs very often I just want a very stable google ROM.
Just update cm manually. By that I mean download the zip to sdcard and boot into recovery to flash. The cm update methods aren't designed well.

I just have another question that is off topic. When I use file manager I see that my phone has so many underlying maps:
SD Card--> 0--> 0
In the second 0 map I noticed that I have all my old stuff (pictures, movies etc.) Seems like the new CM version just installed on top of the old. And I wonder is it safe to delete that underlying map? I mean the second 0 map?
Yes so long as you copy the date out first

Pls Help. Was my phone hacked? Efs folder disapeared after apeared remote access.

Hi
2 days ago I was using my S3 I9300 when lots of "superuser has granted access to ........." messages came up. Next thing it was like someone was controlling my phone for about 30 seconds.
Phone turned of by itself and wouldn't boot. I reflashed firmware but still phone would not boot. Kept getting message efs partition could not be mounted.
I followed a guide to remount a generic efs partition because mine was nowhere to be found.
Now I have yellow writing down my screen, no serial number and 0049 IMEI.
Can anyone help me fix this please, I brought it into two Chinese mobile phone repair shops today and they didn't want to know. I thought this would have been an easy fix for someone with the right tools.
Thanks in Advance
Without a EFS backup it's pretty much impossible.
