[Q] LG G2 under rain : is it safe? - G2 General

Hello,
I know that Galaxy S4 has water protected version and Xperia comes built in with it.
How about LG G2, If I wil go on the street while its raining would my phone go under any risk?
Thoughts?
Thanks!

Yes :/ its the price in Israel but I ended up paying this since I dont want to replace my phone in the next two years and I wanted to get the best I can even if it means pay out of my savings to have a phone that will give me good work quality and stability for next 2 years at least.

Electronic vs Water. Awkward? LG never stated that the G2 was waterproof. Uf water gets into the device it will die. Sorry

Oh well ... Electronics vs water but in fact Xperia and S4 Active made it happen but oh well.... it cant be compared to G2's level so I take it as granted and gonna plan to get good case that will deliver the right protection (there is one that will protect against a rain?) ?

I haven't seen any waterproof cases yet. Try Amazon ? The G2 is much more popular in the states than in the rest of the world.

Normal S4 is not waterproof either... the S4 active has inferior specs...

You surely didn't expect it to be waterproof did you? Did you buy the phone blindly without knowing the spec, as if you wanted it to be fully waterproof then why did you buy it?
You need to ask, do you really absolutely have to use it in the rain?

Its not like I am going to use it in FACT in rain. Just generally what if it happens that I talk and bang rain starts and I i am in critical call, few seconds of Rain will finish the phone?

I've gotten some drops on my phone during the rain. Obviously if I need to use it I shield it and try to keep it safe but I've never had any problems with rain damaging any of my devices. I'm just careful, and if it gets some drops on it, I wipe them off.
I don't think the G2 is any better or worse than anything else out there (not including waterproof devices.)

Ahhh, well, no, a few drops of rain aren't going to do anything. Unless they happen to fall right into an open port or something, but that is unlikely. As ling as it isn't torrential rain for a long period beating onto the phone you should be ok.
I've had a few drops of rain get on mine, like most people. No problem caused.

am I the only one who finds these videos pointless and stupid? amusing to watch sometimes but pointless, nonetheless. Here's a shock, glass breaks when dropped.
>:3 SGS II is pretty durable and in reference to a fall test the plastic actually absorbs impact. Meaning Iphone's glass which is brittle/not flexible takes the full on impact. Meanwhile the SGS II just sorta bounces since it is far lighter/bendy if you will.
I have a wife with a cracked iPhone 4S screen, and I have a beautiful GS2.
Whether or not this is defect with my wife or phone is still up for debate.

Before her iPhone 4S she had a Captivate.
I never heard the end of her constant complaints about the device, so I wouldn't let her buy a GS2. I just don't have the patience.

The SGS II has Corning Gorilla Glass that is very impact resistant. The screen is not plastic. I'm not sure what type of glass the iPhone has but its obviously not impact resistant...

Lil ol SG2 is so thin and light it feels like a delicate toy. Light is a great attribute to have when it comes to being dropped . An ant is small, light, and delicate, but you can drop the joker off a second story window onto concrete and it will still walk away. being heavy and made of glass however, is not so great for dropping lol.

Has anyone sent their Galaxy S ii(I777) to Liquipel? I know it's not an option on their list of phones but they still let you send your device. Looks interesting but since I got my very first dumbphone I never had problems with getting water on it.
It opens up possibilities, but nothing I need at the moment.
Passing it on to my foolish friends though, so thanks for that!
No problem!
So it makes it water resistant but not proof right?

sent from my Galaxy SIII ...haha jk, I FOiLed ya!
I want see more reviews as its really new. But This is real. And does work. Here is how.
Hydrophobic nanocules are applied via vacuum. Thus coating the outside AND INSIDE from water molecules (which are bigger than the nanocules) thus can't get in and create a conduction.
It is rated itx-7 meaning it is waterproof to up to 30min at 1 meter (3feet) depth... Jeez. So i wanna go swimming with it

Its not meant for warranty purposes.. This is just for anyone that wants to protect their device from water damage.
Im sure it voids the warranty..
*edit* .. I think they are also trying to get in with (somebody.. I forget, but they mentioned it at CES).. so that phones come with the Liquipel protection - which is a great idea but than the suppliers end up losing money because of not having to replace asany phones.. Not sure how it all works but somebody loses potential mula

i played with this stuff at CES this year. It was Fascinating! They used the stuff on a Napkin and had it sitting in a pool of water. When you pushed the napkin around in the water it never got wet and just rolled off (unless you were extremely harsh with it).
Quite impressive to see. You could also see the water interacting with the screen as it splashed against it (showing that its not just a "fake" cover)

+1
This phone is enough for years
I'll throw my 2cents in although i don't own the phone. So if I were you, I'd wait for the GX. It has the quite "new" Snapdragon S4 processor inside and that one is really a beast in terms of performance as it even blows away the Tegra 3 quadcore(4+1) in some benchmarks or in overall system performance. It won't take that long from now until the GX(international TX?) is released, so if you can wait, wait for it, I really recommend it. I'm lucky that I am on a long year contract with O2 already and I am allowed to choose a new phone this or next year for a fee of just 49€, so I will definitely get the GX!
Hi Guys
My girlfriend is thinking about getting this phone, mainly because of the water, dust and scratch resistance while it still being a powerful phone with lovely camera and an awesome processor.
My question is: How well does it handle in real life when comming to being dropped on the ground, dropped in a pile of water etc?

another repair needed for the Ultra!

Most of you know me, or have seen me around.... so are probably aware of my, 8 week cold turkey stint without my Ultra.
Reason being: There was a small repair needed.
... However today I took my family on a small tramp, in the sun, to a water hole for a swim..
I was taking some picture with my Ultra, and the screen started flickering... so i powered it off and then back on... 'black screen'
Everything was still working, but black screen. (obviously can't see anything) Went to do a hard power off, by holding the red button, and hmmm whats that. the white humidity paper is red. **crap!** the lens on both the front and back have fog all over them. No I've never even taken my device underwater, it may have received a few splash's today, but caps are always closed... and they were today.
conclusion:
The last repair was completed, and the device was not sealed properly...
So... awaiting a response to my rather lengthy email... (very polite) and will see what the company say whom i bought it from.
They are based in Hong Kong, and it cost me $120 NZD to send it there and back... (I had to pay both freight costs)
SO.... there you go. fricken awesome! My device is dead again!
Oh god no.. I don't know what to say. The typical thing now is that you'll ship it away (again) and we'll receive 4.4 the day after. Just watch it happen.
hey lord I send you a private message. nothing important but. i'm going off topic but can you tell me or any body knows how to make the screen home page larger or to expend once the DPI has downsize to 280 DPI

I've used it in the rain, before I had the initial repair. worked fine, the humidity paper was still white. BUt the last repair company was complete rubbish. Was not my call as it was shipped to Hong Kong (where i purchased it) and they had it repaired.

About 3 and a half feet. I missed my jacket pocket. Stupid stupid stupid.....
Did the same thing, just 9 days after purchasing my G2. I did not have insurance but sent it in to LG and they repaired it for just $148 USD. Versus AT&T's 200 dollar insurance deductible.
Edit. Process of sending it into LG and getting it back was like 10 days. Reasonable.

Well that's another reason why I really started to prefer lg over all the other companies..148 dollars to fix the screen is AWESOME. Well that's another reason why I really started to prefer lg over all the other companies..148 dollars to fix the screen is AWESOME. I don't have insurance because I think its a complete rip off to pay 7 or 8 a month plus a 200 dollar deductible. Lg will have my loyalty when they keep repairing phones for that cheap.

Is your g2 rooted as well? I rooted mine but just seem to still have more fun with the dna. I think bc of the lack of lg stock themed roms. I use malladus which is great , but I like having options. I am same with htc, I like the sense roms

Yup, my G2 was rooted, but running mostly stock with G2 Exposed. Now I get to start over, whenever they get some back in stock or my Business rep can work some sort of magic.
I dropped mine a few times but of course with my case ballistic sg maxx and nothing. Im a mechanic and constantly on the ground rolling over my phone and still no damage. Also bumping into metal doeant do anything. Especially with the holster by far the best case ever. I recommend it. Leaving it naked is asking for damage.
I agree with the insurance being useless. If my phone breaks ill just buy a new one at full price it doesnt matter to me.
The only reason why leave my g2 stock unrooted is so IF I do break it I can just send it in to LG and they will fix it..I have read they are not so forgiving however with rooted phones.
