I wanted to share this experience in case it happens to anyone else. I rooted my nook tablet and installed CM and everything worked great. This is a full install to the OS, not running from SD card at all, no SD card present. However, the battery ran low into the red zone and shut down the tablet. I plugged it in and it tried to start up without me even hitting the power button, as if it was in deep sleep and tried to wake up when it saw power. But, because it didn't have enough juice it would only get to the CWM menu screen and it would power cycle and start over again. I did the power/volume reset but that wouldn't shut down the tablet completely because every time I would plug it in it would try to restart again. Finally I was able to get it to run long enough to get to the CWM recovery menu and quickly choose power down option at which point it began charging without trying to restart. After I let it charge for an hour it reached about 60% at which point it started fine and has been fine since. It's a reminder to not let the battery drain too low because I'm not sure if this was a one time thing or if it is going to happen every time the battery drains low.
I had the same issue, my solution was to keep powering it on until it drained the battery completely. Finally I got a warning message that the batter charge was too low to power up. At this point you can plug it into the charger and it won't try to auto start.
I have a similar (maybe the same issue). But I have an additional one, because I am using a SD card. 2 Things to care about:
1. Use a powerful enough charger and just plug it in, it might boot cycle automatically, but at some point it will boot correctly... For me the charger of my Motorola Defy (850mA) with the original Nook charging cable works.
2. Leave the SD card removed while booting (I just "click" on it, so it is removed but still "connected" to the case), otherwise I also just get never-ending boot cycles for some reason - but maybe this SD card is "partially bootable" for some reason (though I never used it as a bootable SD card...)

I bought the Anker charger/2 batteries set in this thread awhile back - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1632718
Had not used them before, but hurricane Sandy is coming through so I figured I would test them out. I put one in the charger last night and put it in the phone this morning, and now the phone will not boot up all the way - it shows the Samsung bootscreen, then the KingKangers logo screen, and then shuts off. I've had this same issue with both of the new batteries along with my original Samsung battery.
I have tried to put it into recovery and download mode, at one point it showed the download mode screen and then shut off again. Recovery mode has not worked at all. Tried holding power for 30 seconds while both plugged in and not plugged in, no luck. Saw a recommendation to take out SIM, SD card, and battery for 10 mins and then put them back, and that didn't work as well. Tried to see if ODIN would "wake it up", but ODIN does not recognize it (tried two cables from two different computers). Computer also doesn't recognize my phone to look at my files, etc.
Also, when I plug it in to charge with the battery in place, it does small vibrations - I have noticed this is the same thing the phone does if I plug it in to charge it without a battery in...worried this may mean my phone is not recognizing the battery for some reason??
Any ideas? Any help is MUCH appreciated...
FWIW, running AOKP and Dagr8's KingKangers kernel, been running it for the last week or so with no real issues other than occasional reboot.
I have a Nook Tablet (NT) that is rooted and running CM 10.2. All was well until recently when I noticed that once the battery is drained it'll take almost a day for it to turn back on, most of the time being stuck in a loop where the "battery is too low to power on" screen will appear and reappear. Two days my daughter was using it to watch Netflix and the low battery toast appeared, she plugged it in and the NT shut off. Pressing the power button produced nothing until we unplugged it again. I tried using three different cords including a fastboot cord I made for our KFHD, each time it shut right off and won't start back up. I've tried plugging a cord in without any power and it doesn't have any effect, yet the minute any kind of power is introduced....it shuts off and stays off while plugged in.
I searched Google, read almost every sorta relevant post and have searched other forums as well with no luck. Has anyone had this problem? Has anyone solved it? What could be the problem? Any help is appreciated. :crying:

I have a hunch the battery is starting to fail. It is not a good idea to let the battery get too low, the reason being if it does then the circuity inside tells the nook that the battery is too low to function. When that happens the nook won't power on OR charge quickly. It can only trickle charge, which is why it can take a long long long time to get enough power to turn on.
If this is happening without warning, then it is because the battery indicator calibration is off. If it does flash up a battery warning turn it off right THEN (put it to sleep by pressing the power button once) and plug it in. This should keep it from powering off totally and should charge quickly.
If it keeps happening, it could be the battery needs to be replaced. There are two places to get one that I know of batteryship.com and newpower99.com both seem to come with tools to do the job.
My tablet started doing the odd phantom touches when the battery gets below 23%. I am trying to find a (real) way to calibrate it, but so far no go. But if need be I can just plug it in at 25% or so, as long as it doesn't get any worse. However from what I hear they often do.

The problem you experienced with NT CM flaky battery reading and with NT going beserk at low battery reading was discussed at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2551512.
FWIW there are some battery-calibration apps but I have not tried them.
I'm starting to think it's a hardware issue. I have replaced the battery twice and did a clean install of liquid smooth and it still shuts off completely when it gets plugged in. It will fully charge while plugged in but it will not turn on at all while power is going to the battery through USB. Once unplugged it will boot normally. Really strange.

I will check out the thread, but I am running the B&N stock 4.3 currently (and rooted).
Here's the story: I'll try to make it as short as possible (I'll also put on a TL;DR at the end)
My phone is rooted, flashed to Cyanogenmod 11 nightly build, no problems when I flashed these guys.
I installed Lucky Patcher to patch an app, put some files on my SD card (bunch of PSX games)
just put it out there if that changed anything
My battery was low at that time and I did not expect that if I let it shut down by itself, I could still open it just like I do in the past.
Phone totally has no charge on my battery 0%. I plugged in my charger, the phone opens up but it only opens the M logo with Dual core technology (not the pulsing M). Tried to charge it overnight, still stuck on dual core screen, tried resetting using Power + Volume Down, and also going through where AP fastboot, BP Tools was, If I choose any of them (except for fastboot) it would redirect me again to the dual core logo.
sometimes I get lucky if I choose BP tools and goes to TWRP recovery (safestrap installed), tried to boot there and still no luck.
also tried unplugging charger while on the selection of AP fastboot and just shutdowns my phone. also one time it redirects me to one with a battery icon and a question mark.
I also don't have access to factory cable, can't buy one because it's not available in here in the Philippines, tried making one but I reaally suck at soldering, also when I opened up the wires, it only shows up 3 wires, red, green, and white, the other one I opened was only red and black.
TL;DR : Phone battery is dead, when plugged in charger, Motorola Razr Stuck on M logo (with Dual core technology). I also don't have access to factory cable, can't buy one because it's not available in here in the Philippines. Also there's no more Motorola stores that I can get a fix (I think they got bankrupt :silly
I really love this phone and I would really appreciate if I could get a quick fix
Sad, it seems that the questions here seldomly get answered, hope the experts go online soon

It's OK don't worry. Just charge the phone for about two hours, unplug the carger and faster reset the phone wiht power + volume up + volume down. This way you can boot to safestrap. You will see that battery is on 0%, so plug the phone in the charger and wait. Until you are in safestrap the phone will charge. The battery needs at least 5% to boot the OS, I myself prefer to reach 20 even 30 percent. Then on safestrap's homescreen press reboot, then system and after the phone reboots wait or press search when safestrap's splash screen shows and the OS will load.

It Worked! Thank you so much for your help. The only problem I have now is that everytime I get my battery low, it doesn't go on charge mode when turned off. is there a fix in that? But overall, the trick that you thought me worked, and I'm using that trick when my battery gets low.
It seems hard to get a fix for this issue, so I used the app "Tablet Auto Power Off ★ root" and set the auto shut down when the battery reach 5%. It gives me enough power to restart the phone when I'm ready to charge it.
As many of us are aware, there is a issue that can occur with a Nook Tablet going crazy with phantom touches. Essentially it looks as if you are tapping on the screen when you are not. It usually happens very quickly, one minute ok, the next everything is getting tapped all over the screen. This can cause data loss as the device thinks you are touching the screen. For example a file you were working on may abort before saving as it thought you hit "close".
I have been bugged by this issue on and off. Some people replace batteries to fix the issue, and while that will fix it 99% of the time, there is an easier (and cheaper way).
The problem appears to be the newton loses battery calibration. There has been talk in the past of deleting the battery file via CWM or other Android app that deletes this file (or even doing it manually with a file browser app, which may need root access). This battery file is only data since the LAST time you charged the device. Not the calibration data. And this file is deleted automatically everytime you plug it in to charge.
How I fixed it
After a lot of research I found that many Android devices there often a way of recalibrating the battery charge system. The steps are:
1. If you get phantom touches hit the power button as fast as you can to put it to sleep ande prevent anything occurring you might not want (aka a file deleted you wanted to keep etc).
2. Charge the battery to full, until the green light is lit on the charge indicator located on the Nook Tablet charge cable
3. Unplug the device from the charger
4. Use the Nook Tablet for 20 minutes with a high drain app (aka watch a video)
5. Plug the Nook tablet back into the charger and wait until the light turns green again.
6. Repeat steps 2-5 several times. I would suggest 3 or 4.
7. See if you get phantom touches again when the Nook Tablet power gets low. If you do try steps 2-5 again several more times.
In my experience after a few times of this, I no longer had the phantom touches issue.
Why it happens
I am not sure all the details as to why, but one time I do know for a fact that one time it happened after I had the tablet on the charger with a full charge (I had not got around to unplugging it yet) when the power to my home failed. It came back on a few minutes later but that night when I was using the device I got phantom touches at about 50% power left. Which I never had before. After doing the above method it is working fine again even down below 15% power (which I never let it get that low normally).
I suspect that the power failure caused the charger system to recalibrate and since the battery was already at full, messed up the whole system. I also would NOT leave the Nook Tablet on a charger for long periods. If it sits at 100% for a long enough period it is possible for the battery to drop down a little and start charging again. This could start a recalibration again, bringing back the phantom touches issue.
I have not posted until now as I was not certain what fixed it before. If it was the charge to full, use for 20 minutes, then charge again method or turn it off then charge method worked. I tried several before and wasn't sure which one worked. Now I can say the put to sleep, charge, use, charge again method does work. But don't turn off the device then charge if you can help it. If the Nook tablet is powered all the way off (not sleep) doesn't seem to do a battery recalibrate. Or at least my best experience is to plug it in while in sleep mode, charge to full (green light), use for 20 minutes, and then charge again.
Sorry if this has been posted before. But a quick search didn't reveal any hits.
UPDATE:
Upon further tests, often powering off the device fully (holding power for 30 seconds or pressing for 5 and saying yes to the popup to power off), then plugging it in, letting it turn on and charge to full will fix the problem as well.
Hi guys,
My tf201 keeps shutting down.
I was using it when suddenly if just shut down and went black dead.
I started it, in several seconds it goes off again. This happens if it is connected to keyboard dock, through USB to computer or not connected at all.
When started to recovery or to system, or even in APX mode as soon as I get into nvflash recovery mode it just shut down in several seconds.
The same for adb or fastboot, I cannot do anything, it just shut off in a second as soon as I get into any mode.
I have got all all my backups and files ready, but my problem is that tf201 keeps shutting down on me and I cannot push any files to it because as soon as I start it shuts down while connected to computer on USB in the middle of transfer.
I wonder if any of the experts here have seen something like this I would really appreciate any suggestions.
I got it back to life!
It was the battery issue!
Just to recapitulate:
It started by shutting down the tablet one day while showing 100% battery.
Would not boot into anything (system, recovery, adb, fastbook even nvflash mode) because it would shut off after several seconds.
I tried to reinstall everything, but I could not finish any process, tablet would shut down in the middle.
I left it connected on the dock hoping it will recharge.
After 2-3 days I tried to start it, it would show red battery screen and shut down immediately. That was something new I have not seen before.
I looked around and have find out that battery is or completely fried or need to get reset.
There is two methods to try.
1. open the tablet and unplug the battery cable, then after a while plug it back and charge.
2. reset by applying paper clip in the little hole on the left side of the tablet below the Micro SD card slot and charge at the same time.
I decided to start with the second method first, since I didn't want to open the tablet.
I plugged the paper clip into the hole and taped it on the body of the tablet with the tape in a way that would apply constant pressure on the clip. I plugged it through the USB into the computer and let charging for about 5-7 hours.
Then I tried to start it into recovery.
Miraculously it worked and battery was showing 35%.
After that point everything wen smooth, I formatted and reinstalled new N 7.1.2] [ KatKiss - Nougatella #036 ] by timduru and it works like new again.
Battery is charging normally and instead of constant 100% is now showing real number that goes down when I use the tablet and up when I charge it.
Looks like the battery needed to be reset by complete discharging and then starting it up by disabling all the controls using the paper clip trick while charging on computer. That started the battery again into a new life.
Hopefully this post will help someone in similar troubles.
Thanks for support guys!
Sincerely
georgecoat
