Without rooting my phone, is it possible to remove or freeze Carrier IQ on the AT&T version of the G2 using ADB shell (or some other method)?
Other than this one, buggy as all crap, service, I love stock and have no reason to root.
Thanks

I'm pretty sure you need to root in order to use the extended features of system tuner.

Hello all!
I was just wondering if this will work on the TB. The video over at Phandroid makes it seem pretty cool, and one of the comments mentioned that it would work on the Thunderbolt. Does anyone have it working? Is it available for the TB or any of the ROMs out?
check it out (video included) here:
http://phandroid.com/2011/05/05/download-htc-sense-3-0-lockscreen-for-select-evo-roms/
looking for the same thing! can you tell me if you have rooted your TB?
I've been trying the "Easy Root" program for days without luck.

That lockscreen is indeed sick.
Notice the [Q] in your thread title?
Notice the "Q" & A section in the Thunderbolt forum?
JohnDaddyo,
Yes, I am using a rooted TB. I used the manual method that avlfive linked to, as I thought it was the best bet. I didn't know anything about it, but as long as you have SOME computer knowledge, you should be fine. Knowing basic DOS commands comes in handy.
g00s3y,
Sorry! (I thought this was more of a development issue... and more of a "work in progress" kind of a topic). many apologies
This tells me VZ phones models are always a step or two behind other carrier's.

That's correct, but none of the other four national carriers do, and their footprint is like five cities since they're regional

Anyways, there is no sense 3.0 goodies for the thunderbolt yet. You guys may want to wait until theres an actual phone that has 3.0 released before wanting it on thunderbolt
I found this website http://www.oneclickroot.com/phone/htc-droid-dna/ I was wondering if it is a scam. Has anyone seen this?
I wonder if this works with the new OTA update. It would be sweet if it did.

Anyone willing to try this? I'm curious as to how it works considering the only methods out there right now require getting superCID then using HTV Dev to get the unlock code and the former no longer works...
Also:
The Droid DNA is also plagued by a battery efficiency problem.

It just seems fishy doesn't it?
To me, you would think this, being a pretty big development, would break here on XDA.
While I am hoping its true, as I am holding off until something like this is released, it just seems a little to good to be true.
But go for it if you want!
Just follow a guide on here, it's pretty much dead simple to unlock your bootloader through HTC. I highly doubt this is legit but in the time it took you to make this post and wring your hands about it you could have unlocked the bootloader, rooted and installed a custom rom.
netstal trembley
im not saying its not legit but, like said a couple of posts above, if it was legit, i'd think it would be xda by now
My theory - If no one has commented anything at all and there's no one to vouch for it, don't become the martyr or the first victim.
I'm happy about the feed back from you guys. This is the reason I posted it here, because I knew someone would have a good insight about this topic.
I'm staying away
Thanks

Click the download button and it says right there that it won't work. Only supports android up 4.0.3, and no HTC devices although they hope to support them in the future. It's virus free according the VirusTotal, but I still wouldn't use it on a supported phone without confirmation from someone else that it won't ruin it.
Hi, I'm one of the people behind the development of One Click Root. I can assure you our software does not contain viruses or any other malicious code.
The poster above me is correct. We currently don't have support for HTC devices as we're still working on a few of the finer details of automating HTCDev.com bootloader unlocking. We do hope to add support for HTC devices in the near future, along with a number of the most popular new devices on the latest ICS and Jelly Bean OS versions.

That is all you can do when you "unlock" your phone. You remove sim card based carrier restrictions. Once unlocked you can take an att phone and put in a tmobile sim and it might work! But that's all it can do.
You might be thinking of giving your phone "root access" if you want to do more. Once you root a phone you can remove preinstalled software or bloat. You can install custom roms. You can enable tethering when you might not of before... and so on.....
Rooting and unlocking are two different things. I hope this answers your question.

Is that no as in "not yet" or "never" ???
My guess is gonna be a never. I don't see how an app that doesn't use root access can bypass the Verizon check. If I remember what I read correctly that change resided in the framework-res.apk
If rooted/unlocked then yes there is a mod which enables the native tethering

Yes you can. Pre 4.3 you could use several apps to access the native Hotspot feature with out having to actually have the service. With the 4.3 update all these apps are now broken and there's a message saying you're not subscribed to the Hotspot service.
Awesome thanks for providing the link. Can this be flashed on a stock rom with locked bootloader? I allowed my phone to do the OTA update not thinking about the bootloader lock :? grrrrr. I did get the phone rooted just not unlocked. If odin or stock recovery wont work any idea as to how I could get it on the ohone. Maybe ADB?
I had thought the courts and the FCC had ruled that Verizon couldn't charge it's customers an extra fee for using hotspot anymore. Can anyone confirm/deny?

It was the FCC, and it only applies to people that have a data cap. VZ is still allowed to charge unlimited data folks.

You need a custom recovery to flash that file, and you need an unlocked bootloader(or bootstrap method) to load one onto the phone.

I'd have to defer to someone like runandhide that posted the file, as I have no experience with that.
So I got an unlocked Verizon-VS980 LG G2 (I have t-mobile) and when I first started the phone it could connect to the t-mobile service right away, however after a few minutes of playing with the phone, it knows there is a sim card, but is not connected to t-mobile. The only way I can get this to work is to switch over to an AOSP rom but I really want to use a stock one. Currently using Xdabbeb and it's still not working. Any help would be great!

If this is any help, I've used Mahdi rom and it worked but, but I hate using Google camera and most custom cameras don't support it. Also the battery life isn't where i like it to be (using greenify and all the other what nots)
