[APP] Snapdragon™ BatteryGuru - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

We know that the Snapdragon 800 is a power house, but compared to the other major competing SOC (Samsungs 5410 exynos octa-core) its not the best with battery life. Thats primarily due to the clock speed. So Snapdragon have released an app in an attempt to combat this. **UPDATE: October 24, 2013**
Playstore Link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xiam.snapdragon.app
"Extends battery performance and improves overall user experience by intelligently making changes that optimise device functionality in phones with Snapdragon mobile processors"
• Delivers longer battery life with fewer charges, acting as a battery life extender
• Intelligently learns how you use your Snapdragon-powered smartphone and optimises your device without disabling smartphone functionality
• Requires no user configuration - Snapdragon BatteryGuru automatically learns and adjusts the smartphone settings so you don’t have to
After a brief 2-4 day introduction period, Snapdragon BatteryGuru learns the user’s behaviors and then notifies the user that it is ready to extend the battery life and improve the experience. Snapdragon BatteryGuru continues to operate in the background, deepening its understanding of the user and further optimising the experience over time.

Yeah.. I'm thinking if used in conjunction with 'stamina mode' it would be even better.
But used instead, then it would be a good solution if you would rather be notified of every alert.
Learns about your location, and what to turn on and turn off. Sounds good, but only time will tell...

My gf try it on his phone (i9505 Snapdragon).
Not bad application, but very bad for her, to save power this app will stop connection from your apps.
If you set the soft to don't stop connection for all apps you want, like Facebook, Mail, and some other, your battery will be sucked by the Snapdragon soft...
Better way to use Stamina or "Eco battery" mode.

Can't see any battery gain.

yeah possibly more of a placebo app from snapdragon eh!?

Maybe we expect to much of a miracle.

Well it has now been a week and I uninstalled the app. It is pretty much crap. Doesn't do any good.
Written on the refrigerator

Thanks a lot

Using it now more then a week. Battery time.didn't increase, but it also didn't decreased faster though.

Bump! Anyone tried this in conjunction of Stamina Mode? Or do we need to disable Stamina?
I'm gonna try without Stamina mode on and see how it goes

Go power master

Found this neat battery management app from the makers of go launcher ex. after using it for a few days I have found what it estimates to be fairly spot on. Have you guys tried it?

I've been using GO apps since getting my Note back in February. The Power Master app is very good. I have tried different power saving apps and was never really satisfied. Also, what font are you using on your Note?
The font is called "Droid" I installed it using RomToolBox by jRummy.

Thanks for the app suggestion
First day using it and I'm at 63 percent after 16 hours and the app estimates 10 more hours of battery life

I'm not sure I see the purpose. I've tried both Juice Defender and GreenPower, and those both are capable of extending my battery automatically by managing the radios (at the cost of untimely notifications), but everything in GO Power is already built into the phone (except for estimated time remaining).

Go Power Master aims to take the time consuming setup & micro-management out of the process by handling most of everything for you.
I used it for a few days but it wasnt for me.
Personally, I use Tasker and Battery Widget Pro.
Tasker (something like $8 on the market) gives you all the functionality of Juice Defender and GreenPower but it also gives you MANY more options than any other app of this kind (automation on your phone). Tasker isnt specifically for saving battery power, its about automating process for you so you dont have to think about it and if you think about it, some of the things you do may be for the express purpose of saving battery life but could also be for other purposes.
One of the MANY automated Tasker scripts I run automatically turns off nearly every radio on the phone when I am more than 200 feet away from the house. Another automatically turns the phone ringer off when I place it on my inductive charger (when its on the charger, I dont want phone calls because I usually will be sleeping).
However, Tasker comes at a huge price, first it is fairly expensive for an app but the bigger issue is the learning curve. Yes, there is a ton of documentation for it but essentially, every task you create is a small logic gate and if you are not familiar with basic programming or have a good grasp of basic math and minor algebra (greater than, lesser than, etc.), you may run into some difficulties getting it to do what you want it to.
Battery Widget Pro tells me EXACTLY what is going on with my battery, sometimes killing me with TMI (too much information). When I see something out of the norm with regards to battery life, I can tap the battery widget and see exactly what has been going on since the day I installed the app (it lets me go back as far as I want to see battery information).

Undervolting? whats safe/best for battery?

Im using SiyahKernal and I'm curious about undervolting.
I want a safe/ok combo that will be smoothish and fastish but good for battery.
I'm currently running the cpu at 900mhz using extweaks.
Any suggestions? what're your settings?
Undervolting takes time and patience.
Start with -25 first and test if it is stable for a day or two.
If it is, move on to the next step.
Personally I didn't undervolt yet because it seemed to lower my average benchmark scores. Overclocked to 1704 and get 63k average in quadrant!!! (Not that it really matters in daily use...)
Yes do it in steps. The only danger is too low a voltage will cause a reboot when idle if theres not enough power to keep going.
I got mine to -100 for every step, stable. This means Samsung were generous with their voltages IMHO, but OEM's generally are. HTC are the same.

Thats amazing! how was your battery?
So the only danger is a reboot? no damage? apart from the obvious loss of work unsaved or game etc.
Not really bothered about benchmarking. just battery life with at least an 'ok' performance. i can easily set it up later when i need performance.
Just really love this phone and am mosty working all day.
Not really for undervolting. Its over volting that causes damage. Battery is ok. Not amazingly better. Cell Standby is killing me.

[Q] 100% cpu load without any obvious reason

So I open an app like the play store or chrome in the screenshots and get 100% load for 10 seconds or more. I noticed this behavior on different roms and kernels/governors.

That's only 51% maxed out would be BOTH CPUs at 100% so really your concern is?

Without accounting for exactly what the CPU is doing you really can't make this assertion.
Me neither, that's why I ask. It just looks buggy when the cpu starts scaling to max frequency (for a long time) because a new app is started.

Try a different governor, or maybe increase/decrease the refresh rate of your resource monitor? (BTW, scaling to max speed on load is actually better for battery life in some cases, as the task energy required can be sometimes be lower when you burn more juice but complete a given task in a shorter period of time).
The cpu (core) load shoud be independent from the governor, apart from the current frequency of course. I still have the feeling that it is some kind of "phantom load" but actually I have no idea. I switched from an ASOP rom to CM10.1 and I haven't seen the problem yet. :fingers-crossed:

Its true that load wouldnt be caused by the governor, but the governor you run does affect how load is handled and whether there averages more or less load on the system. By running at a higher speed the system load is decreased because the processor is going through its tasks much faster. If the governor is keeping the speed lower while doing a task then the system load will be much higher because the CPU cant complete things as fast. So load and governor are linked together, but it is the tasks being run that cause any of the load in the first place.
Since the problem hasnt come back since switching to CM10.1 it was probably something in the system that got bugged and caused this behavior.
Yes I agree, but in this particular case I have maximal frequency and core load. It's much better now with cm10.1. :good:

I just installed this as well. I always had good luck with this one on previous androids. I will post up my settings after its done " learning "
I have it installed on my og moto x and I saw a difference in battery after a few days after it completed its setup process. Also you need to go into the settings and enable low power mode

You enable Low Power Mode within BatteryGuru. You can set it to activate automatically after your battery dips below a specific percentage. It lets you also specify the actions you want the phone to do, such as reduce screen brightness, reduce app refreshes, disable data/wifi/bluetooth, and basically anything that can eat at your battery life.
I've used the app with other snapdragon powered phones and it does provide a significant boost in battery life. I'm currently using it on my Galaxy S5 and it helps extend an already long battery life. I'm excited that my custom Moto X is currently out for delivery right now, I keep checking the door hoping it arrives!
Anyone have any results? Particularly any noticed performance loss?
Thanks

Yes it does causes battery drain, maybe because it wants us to enable location services for its group of features to work! thats weird, i dont understand why a battery saver application wants location services to save battery. I uninstalled it and got the Greenify apps, works quite well!
Wow there is no way according to this.

[Q] Extreme Battery Drain

What in the WHAT!!! My battery life has been up and down since I've had this phone. I sotpped using the GMAIL email app and am using Type mail for all my accounts. That seemed to help out with a small bit of the battery life, I didn't do any specific tests so it could actually have not changed anything at all. I'm having a very strange issue yesterday and today. I'm at my new office, signal strength is very low, but there's still 4G and a tiny bar of service. Additionally, I have WiFi available to connect to so the data shouldn't be straining to use the cell radio. I have my phone plugged into the wall (it's not the fast charger, just the regular Samsung plug) and the battery IS DRAINING!!! How is this even possible, what is chewing up my battery life? I've also seen the phone slow in it's responsiveness lately? I am considering a soft reset to factory, but I don't do anything really crazy with my phone. I email, facebook, text, and have Nova Prime and a weather widget. What is going on with this thing?

Take a look at your battery status. Post a screen shot when you experienced a bad drain again.
Try not to use wifi at all
Did you install one drive during setup. Check the camera upload setting which is turned on by default. So all ur pics upload to cloud on wifi. See if this setting helps

I looked at it yesterday before I posted...and I should have taken a screenshot...but the top two were Cell Standby @ 14% and Android System @ 13%. I will have the opportunity to grab a screenshot later today. In contrast though, this morning in the last 10 minutes since I've left my house I've gone from 95% to 90% and this reply and an uber was the only thing I've done on it since taking it off the charger.

That's not an option. I have a low data plan, 3GB, because it is SIGNIFIGANTLY cheaper and I live in DC where I have free Wi-Fi almost throughout every inch of the city. Plus when at home I have my phone on my network to take advantage of Wi-Fi and corporate resources.

I wrote a post over at reddit about this topic:

I can't post it on XDA yet due to the external link limitation since I am new to the forum. Just copy and paste the URL removing spaces in the URL beginning.
I am regularly seeing Lag free performance with five hour screen on time. I started with less than 2 hours SOT and constant lag.
