[RECOVERY] TWRP 2.6.3.0 touch recovery [2013-09-16]

Team Win Recovery Project 2.x, or twrp2 for short, is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. It’s a fully touch driven user interface – no more volume rocker or power buttons to mash. The GUI is also fully XML driven and completely theme-able. You can change just about every aspect of the look and feel.
Phone look:
Tablet look:
CHANGELOG for 2.6.3.0:
-Proper backup and restore of SELinux contexts (thanks to Tassadar)
-Pull in some ROM information for backup name generation
-Merge all recent patches from AOSP bringing TWRP up to date with Android 4.3
-Add 1200x1920 theme (thanks to Tassadar)
-A few other fixes and tweaks
CHANGELOG for 2.6.1.0:
-Initial SELinux support (only a few devices, need testers so come by IRC if your device doesn't have it and needs it)
-Initial support for f2fs file system formatting (Moto X)
-Update SuperSU install for 4.3 ROMs
-Fixed a permissions bug on files created during backup
-Fixed a bug that caused TWRP to not wait for compressed backups to finish causing 0 byte files and md5sums to not match
-Fixed decryption of encrypted data so that both TouchWiz and AOSP decryption are possible
-Ignore lost+found folder during backup and size calculations
-Various other minor bug fixes and tweaks
CHANGELOG for 2.6.0.0:
Special Note: If you are running a custom theme, you will likely need to remove that theme before updating to 2.6.0.0 as your custom theme will likely not have some of the new changes visible (e.g. you won't be able to encrypt a backup)!
-Can encrypt a backup to prevent theft of private data from your backup files
-Updated graphics / icon courtesy of shift
-Updated exFAT to latest commits
-Fixed a problem with Samsung TouchWiz decryption
-Update SuperSU binary
-Fixed saving of backup partitions list
-Fixed saving of last used zip install folder
-Fixed backup of datadata on devices that use a separate partition for datadata
-Fixed some issues with the advanced wipe list (android_secure, can now wipe internal storage on data/media deivces and wipe data on the advanced list no longer formats the entire data partition)
-Fixed some problems with partitioning a SD card
-Various other bug fixes and tweaks
Notes about encrypted backups:
Why encrypt your backups? -- Most people store their backups on the device. Any app that has permission to access storage could potentially read your backup files and try to harvest your data. Encrypted backups also provide an added layer of security if you move your backups to other storage devices or to the cloud. The encryption that we're using is probably not strong enough for enterprise level security, but should be strong enough to make it significantly difficult to get to your data.
Encryption is using OpenAES which uses AES 128-bit cbc encryption. If you happen to use a longer password (over 16 characters) then the encryption strength improves to 192 or 256 bits. Do not forget your password. If you forget your password you will be unable to restore your backup. We don't encrypt the entire backup. Encryption is very CPU intensive and can be fairly slow even when we spread the workload over multiple cores even on the latest high-end devices. To ensure that encrypted backups don't take forever, we don't encrypt any other partitions besides /data and in /data we don't encrypt /data/app (or other app related directories where apks are stored) and we don't encrypt dalvik cache.
DOWNLOAD:
The fastest and easiest way to install TWRP is to use the GooManager app:
Play Store Link
Direct Download
1) Install GooManager from the Play Store
2) Open GooManager and provide root permissions
3) Hit Menu (or the button with the 3 dots on your screen) and then Install OpenRecovery

BUGS:
If you have found a bug, please consider posting it to our github issues log. It's pretty much impossible for us to keep up with the more than 40 threads that we have for the devices that we "directly" support. If you have a significant problem that cannot be answered in this thread, your best bet is to PM me directly, contact us via our website, or find us in our IRC channel below. If you see someone that's struggling, feel free to point it out to us. We need your help to help us keep track of all of our devices! Thanks!

To all,
I am truly excited to see all the greats working on this phone.
Thank you
All right a recovery thats waz up
So I take it TWRP isn't suffering from the same bug as CWR?
same thing, it looks like the misc partition is formatted differently so when it tries to reboot it gets corrupted
this is good news.

Sorry my bad I misread it somehow. Or just misunderstood. Or I just drank too much last night.
hey jw, is there the /misc partition problem with twrp like there is in cwm right now?
edit: nevermind I broke my own rule and didn't read before posting that haha thanks xHausx
but also, what exactly is the /misc partition?
Works great. I'll keep that on there, at least until there's an AmonRa recovery.
We'll have an update in a bit to fix the /misc issue.
And there it is, version 2.1.6 is live which fixes the /misc issue.
Also we are now live for installing recovery with Goo Manager, this is far and away the easiest/fastest way to install/update TWRP. Details on our website.
Thanks again to toastcfh for his work on this without even having the device, please find a post by him (try post 2) and thank him, and please consider a donation for him to get the phone.

[Q] Unable to create NANDOID backup (CWM v6.0.1.2 - ROM Manager)

Hello all !
After lurking over 6 weeks, I came to a point with my SG3 that I have no clue what to do next; hence my 1ste post
I'd really like to try a different ROM, but not before I have a full backup of my current SG3.
First some info about my SG3 :
AP: I9300XXDLIH / CP: I9300XXDLID / CSC:I9300LUXDLI1
GT-I9300 / Android 4.1.1 / Kernel 3.0.31-368423 [email protected]#1
Build JRO03C.I9300XXDLIH
Flash Counter : 2
Problem :
It seems I can't make a "single" nandroid backup :
First, the CWM recovery menu has no explicit option for "nandoid" backup, so I do a ROM backup : should be the same, right ?
Using CWM recovery (v 6.0.1.2 from ROM Manager), this CWM seems to use a de-duplcation algorithm to save on each backup only the differences compared to the previous ROM (to save space).
To do this it creates a whole directory structure with over 2500 sub-directories ! under /sdcard0/ClokworkMod/ with a lot of linked data.
The idea to save space is great, as every backup is now only a few Mb of extra data.
This makes it very hard to keep a single or more copies on my PC as each version needs also the data from all previous versions.
I 've also tried "The Toolkit v6.0 for SG3 i9300" using the ADB interface, but this seems to be incompatible with CWM-recovery (ROM Manager) :
after doing a nandroid backup, I ended up with 3 files : boot.img, recovery.img and nandroid.md5 (.md5 is 0 bytes ! and 2 other each 8 Mb),
So where are my system, cache and other data ?
I short history of my related actions (chronological order) :
1. Rooted my SG3 using ODIN3 v1.85 and Chainfire's "CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4.tar"
This created a recovery menu and installed the CWM app. Using the CWM app, I could only reboot to download or recovery mode.
I think I created a nandroid backup at that time (about 5 weeks ago)
2. Installed ROM manager, Titanium backup, ROM Toolbox , SuperSu Pro
I'm not sure, but I think ROM Manager installed a "newer" CWM recovery, the one that I have now (v6.0.1.2)
Since then, I started to make backups from all apps using Titan. Backup, and from my ROM using CWM recovery 6.0.1.2.
As a second option I used the App Man in ROM Toolbox to backup all user apps + data.
I also saw several posts against using ROM-Manager on Sammy's in general, why is that ? Is this true or not ?
Is there a known compatibility issue between the SG3 (or Samsung in general) and ROM-Manager ?
3. Because I still couldn't create a single and "easy to transfer to PC" nandroid backup, I installed "The Toolbo v6.0 for SG3".
I flashed the "insecure bootloader" using ODIN v3.07 (included in Toolbox) : my system was on DLIH which was not listed, so I choose DLJ5 instead of the other option DLIB.
4 current situation from today : still no single nandroid backup possible.
Of course I installed some other apps as well since I own my SG3, but I think these are not relevant to my problem.
What is the recommend way to go on from here ?
Ideally I'd like to keep ROM-Manager (unless it's plain incompatible), but at least being able to produce a single "nandriod" backup in case of problems.
Can I just reflash Chainfire's "CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4.tar" using ODIN ?
Will this give compatibility problems with ROM Manager/ ROM Toolbox ?
I already have installed SuperSU Pro (payed version) so I guess it will overwritten by an older version ?
I saw newer versions to root then the one I did install like "CF-Auto-Root-m0-gti9300" : what's the difference ?
Is there a (hidden) option in ROM-Manager to create a "stand-alone" nandroid backup ? Like temporally first disable the deduping, create a full nandoid from the current system, and restart with the deduping ?
There is an option in the CWM menu to create an "image.zip", but what exactly is included and what not and how to restore it ?
I guess a way to restore my SG3 after it's so messed up that I can't get further then the "download mode" is mandatory as this can always happen after a bad flash !
follow the instructions .

Thx for your reply !
What exactly is incompatible with what ?
ROM Manager & CMW is NOK ? Aren't these from the same company (ClockWorkMod) ?
What about "The Toolkit v6.0" and CWM ? (Toolkit is based on the ADB interface)
And finally "The Toolkit v6.0" & ROM manager ?
I'm a little hesitated to completely abolish ROM Manager as the only backups I have are done using ROM Manager..
Anyway, you convinced me, so I un-installed ROM Manager Premium using Titanium Backup and rebooted the SG3.
I Went manually in to CWM recovery (the 3 button trick) and created a backup on my external SD card. (not on phone memory).
This is what I got :
extra directory with data as name was created under /ClockWorkMod with the files :
boot.img
cache.ext4.tar
cache.ext4.tar.a
cache.ext4.tar.b
data.ext4.tar
data.ext4.tar.a
nandroid,md5
recovery.img
system.ext4.tar
system.ext4.tar.a
system.ext4.tar.b
Total space occupied : 1.8 GB
Is this the "expected" output from a "backup" (I wanted a nandroid backup) from CWM ?
It seems that some .TAR files are 0 bytes and 2 files are then generated : one with a .TAR.A and one with a .TAR.B.
Is this a so called "standard"NANDROID backup ?
Can this completely restore my SG3 to it's current state ? Obviously using CWM, but also using "The Toolkit" via it's ADB commands ?
If this is still not the normal output form a CWM backup, can I just reflash Chainfire's CF-ROOT files ?
Remember my SG3 is already Rooted, and has a payed SuperSU Pro installed as wel as Busybox.

1. CWM works fine
2. TWRP fine
3. CWM-touch (some difficulty in navigation, but works ok)
is there any way .. with out installing purerome.. .for rooting ?
i dont wanna change my stock rom....
I tested it, but only TWRP make backup. CWM says "can't mount system". CWM touch says "backup completed", but there is no backup files on any of storages.I tested two others CWM mods and they also says "can't mount system".
Ohh, I found CWM Touch backup files. After I read log file, I saw this row -> "I:using /data/media for /sdcard/0/clockworkmod". Backup folder is in /data/media/clockworkmod/backup/..
There is something wrong with filesystem table. I saw several lines that say Unable to get recovery.fstab info for: /datadata, /emmc, /sdcard, /ed-ext and /external_sd.
yep. this works. haven't tried backing up yet though. thanks.
thanks, its work.... but, why i cant mount system, its always "mount system Eror"....????

Can cwm mount sdcard0/1 and system?

CWM shows "error in mounting system" when I try to mount system. As a result, can't take nandroid backup.
CWM Touch shows "error in unmounting system" when I try to unmount system. Though it can take backup, when I try restore, it shows error in unmounting system.
TWRP though not showing error, and seeming to backup correctly, when I try restore, it shows error in unmounting system.
In other words,
not working for me.
I'm on CE 4.3 stock, rooted, LB.

I tried to restore 4.3 backup in cwm. It verified md5 and erased boot image. after that it showed error "error, can't mount system" . As a result, I got soft brick on booting.

@ OP
Suppose i am on a 4.3 ROM, and i want to flash a MOD or add-on, which recovery will be compatible with 4.3?
I am on LB, so if the recovery formats system, i have a very long process to get back to where i was.
Currently no compatible custom recovery for LB, but there are people working on it!

Backup Process:
Before we proceed, lets perform some backup operations. Its always better to backup existing data so that it can be retrieved after flashing the file.
Backup apps: We need a root file explorer which can copy system and user installed apps. We also need a data backup app which can backup call logs, messages, wifi access points, data of selected apps, system settings etc.
File Explorer: ES File Explorer, Root File Manger, Root Browser, Root Explorer (paid) etc.
Data Backup: GO Backup & Restore Pro, Helium - App Sync and Backup, Titanium Backup * Root (paid) etc.
I used Root Explorer and Titanium Backup. Download using Play Store.
Backup Steps:
1) Install desired File Explorer and Data Backup app.
2) Move audio, video, pictures, files etc from "internal memory" to "external memory card".
3) Backup messages/database of apps like whatsapp, line etc and move their content to "external memory card".
4) Open installed file explorer app, select all apps located at /data/app/ and copy them to "external memory card".
5) Open installed data backup app, backup desired data like bookmarks, messages, call log, wifi access points, games data etc to "external memory card".
6) Last but not least, make a backup of "EFS/IMEI" using Partitions Backup and Restore if you have not made a backup before. Launch Partitions Backup app and click on settings icon, select External SdCard, click on back button. Select EFS, MODEM and MODEM2 (which are yellow colored) and click on down most button of right side. It will backup your EFS and related partitions to your external memory card. You can use this backup to restore EFS partition if you encounter any EFS/IMEI related problems in future.
Considering we have backed up all the required data, we move to the next step. If we have missed any required backup, please let us know in the comments section.

5) Use power button to select and volume buttons to navigate in CWM Recovery. Touch in TWRP Recovery.

7) Follow: install zip -> choose zip from external sdcard -> select the rom zip file -> Yes.
