All,
I have a T-mobile HTC One that is locked to T-mobile and was wondering if it would be worth my time and effort to get it Sim unlocked and stay with T-mobile for the purpose of maybe getting the Android 4.4 Kit-Kat update sooner? I read that HTC USA is bringing it out "within 90 days" for all HTC Ones, but the Google Play edition within two weeks and the "unlocked" and developer editions within 30 days. I know I'm being impatient but I am looking forward to the new functions and am hoping that it fixes the horrible battery drain that I have noticed since the 4.3 update.
The phone is paid for and I have already called and am eligible to get the unlock code....
One of my questions is how to unlock it without a "foreign" sim? Can I just by a net talk or other phone company sim and unlock it then just pop the T-mobile sim back in? And if so would that qualify the phone as "unlocked" to get the update that much sooner? Also, would that cause me any issues with T-mobile's network? I know I could use one of the many fine roms here but my hacking skills are nil and I would prefer the factory update, I would rather not put my non existent skills to the test.
Please any and all help would be greatly appreciated! :highfive:
Thanks for looking!
Getting your phone sim unlocked will not help you get the htc update faster,so if that's the only reason you need it unlocked do not waste your money on that.Probably will be a custom firmware available for your phone and can use that if can not wait for the official release from your carrier, but that may damage your waranty
So that wouldn't qualify it as an "unlocked version"?

even if you unlock it by an unlock code when updating using the built in update feature, will update to the tmobile rom,the "unlocked version" is the never locked version, that came unlocked with unbranded rom

Hi all,
I finally purchased the Telus Hero GSM Quad Band from Canada and its on its way to India thru FedEx. Bought the Hero without contract for 599$. Does this mean it is unlocked?
Since I have bought it now, what is my next job?
1. Unlock it by purchasing a unlock code.
2. Once unlocked, can I use it as it is? or it is mandatory to upgrade or downgrade the ROM?
3. Will post some more query when it comes to my mind.
Note: Did a search and it seems all threads were stopped answering from last November. So, started a new thread.
Expecting replies, since I do not want to keep Hero in hand as a dummy piece without knowing wat to do.
T i A
you will have to unlock it... then it will work when you pop a registered sim card in..(if the bands are correct) but im guessing you checked that already
Thnx for replying..now I am sure I have to unlock. but which website? Have waded in here and most vote goes to http://hero.unlock-now.com/sim-unlock-HTC-Hero/
should I get one from them?
What about my second query? Is it mandatory to downgrade/upgrade my ROM?
oh sorry forgot about that... im honestly not sure about which site to use to unlock sorry, id go with one that i know people have gotn there money back from though...
and no it is not mandatory to do anything except unlock to use your phone, only install a rom if you want to
thnx a bunch m8..I am relieved now. I also believe that most ppl here who have unlocked their hero has used the link I have posted. Some have got their money refunded too if it doesnt work. Waiting for my package to arrive to knw the IMEI and start unlocking. Fingers crossed.
Guys, if you trust some other site who provides unlock codes, please suggest.
T i A
As for websites to unlock, I did some searching back in November when I got my Telus Hero. I ended up using http://www.unlock-hero.com/, as it seemed to be the most popular at the time. I had no problems with them and had my unlock code within 20 minutes. It's also well priced.
thnx for the sugg m8..need more and finally need to decide on one.
Hey guys. I was going to update the developer thread but I do not have enough posts, so I have to start a new thread.
I've been following the Bounty thread to unlock our SIMs for ATT in the US, and saw this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18293197&postcount=73
Based on their answer, I took a chance and spent the $20. The bottom line? No, they cannot unlock it. When I put an ATT sim in the Photon, nothing happens. According to the UnlockMotorolaIMEI guy, my Photon should have prompted me for a code. It didn't.
I advised him of this issue, asking for further help or for a refund. Here's the response:
"We are sorry sir about this... But we don't know how the things are going on all the networks on the globe.
If you buy a book and after that we realize that the book is not helping you to do something... you can not go back and tell to the seller that it is not helping you...
Do you think that is fair for us to lose the money because of your fault. We are reselling the code. We bought the code from the supplier that will not understand this problem... If I refund you than I will pay for your mistake.
Thanks for understanding. And in future if you will need another code for some phones... I will make you a big discount! This is what I can do...
Gino"
Somehow this has become my fault, despite Gino's assurance originally that yes he could unlock our SIMs for ATT.
I'm hoping they step up and offer me a refund. But as of right now that doesn't seem likely. I will definitly update this thread should they come thru.
But either way, the moral of the story is this only confirms what we already knew: that the GSM radio's firmware is written to ignore any ATT tower in the US, and therefore no "unlock" code is going to help.
This been been known. Our phone is already "unlocked" to every country except the US Domestic GSM carriers. And for it to become unlocked a new radio will have to be written, or stolen if possibly from another countries device.

Agreed. But I'm an optimist . So when Gino originally said yes he could unlock it, I figured it was worth the risk. Turns out it wasn't.
Hopefully this helps other newb's avoid losing any of their money.
More from the Unlock guy. He's obviously confused.
"Hi,
We can unlock Motorola Photon and the unlocking code we've sent you unlocked your SIM, meaning that you can use an international SIM card or other carrier SIM (not just Sprint SIM) in your phone.
The problem I think you have with your phone is the firmware for the GSM radio. Unfortunatelly we only offer unlocking codes, we don't handle firmware issues.
If you would have first solved the firmware issue, you would still need an unlocking code in order to be able to use your handset with other carriers.
G."
I've tried to set him straight, but I think something is getting lost in translation.
Good news! It took a bit of back and fourth but they refunded me in full. So no harm no foul.
Now, about that bounty...

Hello everyone,
So far I have tried the following to get an unlock code. But no luck so far. They are saying it's not available yet. I am new to android and I got the phone from Telus last week. I need help!
http://www.htcimeiunlock.com
www.cellunlocker.net
ebay item 221163388906
Phone: HTC ONE X+
Carrier: TELUS
Country: CANADA
Also, please point me to another option like rooting my phone or something? or any other unlock sites.
Thanks
Whats up with the official site ?

I have been reading this forum all afternoon and I haven't found a guide to root and unlock my telus HTC ONE X+. Is there a guide by hanson2000? Also there seems to be an issue with battery % showing 66%. Is that right? Some direction will be really helpful.

Last I had heard you could not unlock this phone. There is a rumor that hanson2000 can do it but for a price. The battery showing 66% is a known issue in recover.
*edit* I assume you are talking about carrier unlock and not the bootloader as it sounds like you have TWRP installed already.
The Telus HOX+ can be rooted and the bootloader can be unlocked, this will allow you to flash a custom recovery and rom. The Telus and ATT versions are identical with minor cosmetic differences so most, if not all things for ATT should work for the Telus version. If you want to unlock the bootloader to root and flash custom roms use hansons toolkit to unlock your bootloader then flash the ATT version of TWRP (all others will muck your phone up). The 66% issue your talking about is that the TWRP recovery always shows 66% battery left so just be aware of your battery life when your using it as i think it is also connected to an issue with it not being able to charge or something, just don't be dumb and try to flash stuff with 15% battery...
As far as SIM unlocks go for Telus, I've read that it can be done. Your best bet for this would be searching through the forums for someone who has done it or contacting hanson as he can possibly find you and unlock code.
I flashed the intl version on my phone and it screwed it up. (silly Americans Canada isn't part of America lol)
I ended up flashing a custom rom after fixing my problems. I didn't want custom but I'm stuck with it now as there are no ruus for us. Anyways I'm using elegancia on Telus with no problems.

ok. GOOD NEWS. i finally got an unlock code. I have been trying many sites. I was desperate.
This seem to worked: http://unlock.canadagsm.ca/htc/HTC-One-X-plus-network-unlocking/
Thanks to unlock.canadagsm.ca for providing me unlock code and it worked.
Good news for you. Mine on AT&T can still not currently be sim unlocked. Tried mobilunlocked.co.uk and cellunlocker.net and neither could do it. Sent a pm to hansoon and got no reply so either he can't do it or just isn't interested. Either way, looks like I'm stuck for the time being -_-

not sure about AT&T but someone must have the codes. I had to keep trying. I spent about $80 but i got refund for those who couldn't provided me an unlock code. Total cost was $29. But it's so worth it. I was getting very worried.

Well, I'm not an AT&T customer so that won't work for me. I did, however, have the nice fellow I bought it from contact AT&T and, according to him, they told him they wouldn't give him the code until his contract expired 0_o. Not sure if that's true or if he was pulling my leg, but either way, I'm not able to get the code from them as a non-customer.

I signed into my at&t account, went to my phone/device, manage my phone/device and the option for unblocking sim card is there. gives me a 8 digit PUK code.
I've been a (very good) customer for years. I do international travel a few times a year.
I've bought around 120$ worth of unlocking codes, none was able to do it except unlock canada gsm. I highly recommand them. It took 3days, but it came in.

Thank you. Apparently I am eligible to. I recommend every at&t customer check this. Assuming you already have another carriers SIM (I do not just considering selling the phone).
Much thanks! Glad I happened to see this today. I was able to get the PUK code for my HTC One X+ too.
I'm on a family plan w/ 3 people including myself and we've been with AT&T for a long time.
Wasn't really expecting to find it, since I've never travelled out of the country and we've never requested an unlock code before, but, sure enough, it was there.
So thanks for this info! My sister is living in London so this will come in very handy when I go to visit her.
I can't actually unlock the phone without putting a non-ATT Sim card in there can I?
I copied the info down regardless, in case they change their mind or something.

Yes...you will need another sim to use the code.
I realize this is extremely unlikely, but could an AT&T customer enter the IMEI number from a Telus version of the phone, in the AT&T unlock page and get an unlock code? Or is it only for the specific handset a specific customer bought through AT&T?
I just thought perhaps the system accesses a data base and can lookup the unlock code for any IMEI number.
Hi,
Firstly, I'd like to apologise if this post is either in the wrong place, or if the answers are extremely obvious. I'm fairly new to this site so I'm not 100% sure where to post, I'm fairly new to unlocking as I've previously only used factory unlocked phones, and I'm fairly new to Android Rooting so I'm not completely sure of some things.
Long story short, I currently own an HTC One X+ which is locked to the UK O2 network. I want to use a different network so I'm going to have to unlock my phone. O2 will not unlock my phone until 12 months after I've owned the phone, and even then they'll charge me £15. eBay has multiple sellers offering an unlock for £1, but I have two questions before I go ahead and purchase it/send them my information.
Does O2 require you to wait 12 months from purchase because they want to make some money from you, or is it physically impossible to unlock a phone until 12 months after purchase? (this question seems pretty silly seeing as you can buy factory unlocked phones, but I thought I'd check anyway)
Will unlocking my phone affect my ability to root in any way? (again, I feel this is an obvious answer of 'no' but I just want to be sure)
Thank you in advance for any help provided.

1) yes
2) no (my device is the o2 one and it's now running fine on 3)
My HOX+ is/was on contract with Vodafone which I received in November 2012 when I upgraded. My phone is rooted, unlocked bootloader etc. I switched to GiffGaff a few weeks back to get off contract (it cost me to pay off the Vodafone contract but I'm £23 a month better off!). Anyway, I never had to get a PUK or anything, just popped in the new SIM and I was good to go.

Is that a yes they only do it to make money from you, or yes you have to wait 12 months?

Just bought the Verizon moto e at best buy and have it working on t mobile but want to install custom roms.
Sadly it does not. Just bought mine today as a secondary device.
I am just hoping that someone can do something to unlock that bootloader (could the stagefright vulnerability be used to do some things since it does have some root capabilities?) or at least get the device loki'd.

i bought it for the same reason at best buy to uses as a backup for myself or a friend of family member. Just like you i was curious about rooting and custom roms for it. Sadly i found out by trying to follow the tutorial to unlock the bootloader and when i went to Motorola website for the unlock code it said my device couldn't be unlocked :crying:
Before i picked up the Moto e i seen on XDA the Verizon variant could be used on any service so i didn't even think twice to see if it was unlock-able before trying.
Just now wile typing this it actually got me thinking and the thought of the Verizon variant being able to be used on. got me wondering.
Under the hood of the Verizon Moto e is the hardware exactly the same as the other variants or are there more radios for the Verizon network? I ask this because if its the same would there be someway to install the international variant bootloader on the Verizon variant and then unlock it?
if that sounds very stupid im sorry lol. I don't know very much about unlocking devices besides how to follow tutorials of how to unlock a device. But i do know how to flash and install things im kind of a flashaholic thats one reason i looked to unlock this device right away
Verizon as is already annoys me by how there devices have locked bootlaoders thankfully someone found a workaround for the G3, but seeing how this is a prepaid device that customers pay in full for i don't see why they have to lock it down...
$9.99 from bestbuy, it's the best budget phone. I made it work under t-mobile.

Can't overwrite the bootloader since it is locked, the partition is locked to read. However, I was thinking, since it has that 5.1 update, it must've written to the system partition and which case I wonder if a fake update of some kind be used. Kingoroot also somehow can mount and write to the system partition through their rooting process, if someone can figure how it does that, there is hope for this version.
There is also the possibility of someone developing loki for this phone too, which would bring at least some custom action to this.
Verizon does some weird things, both it and AT&T, I just don't understand them. AT&T locks down the device and sometimes they even get updates that were released for the phone. Verizon declines other phones which people want. Anyways, we only paid $10 for phone, couldn't say no to that, right? Unlocked SIM and if they do find a workaround, just cherry on top of the icing.

With so many of these out there now, I think its only a matter of time until someone figures out the bootloader and rom questions.

I hope so, would really suck to stay on 5.1 and miss out on any security updates, etc.
But from the looks of scanning through part of the forum, no seems to be taking on the task of figuring out a way to do so. The one guy that was trying had school that took over his time and then there are no other threads about it.
Yeah, I hope that you are right that all these new devices out there will spark something.
