Hi
I have a Galaxy S3 GT I9300 with build number XXALE8. I can't seem to find any ROMs with the same build number. So, my question is can I install ROMs with different build numbers, say Omega V9 with build number XXALF6? Will it brick my phone? I'm on the Siyah S3 1.3.8 kernel.
Thanks

You don't have to care about build numbers. Only about the device name being identical; you can only flash Rom's for the i9300 or i9300T, not for the US-versions.
Don''t forget to factory-reset when changing Rom. (It may work without, but it's highly recommended)
Descriptions on how to keep your data anyway are floating throughout XDA (HInt: they usually include Titanium Backup and SMS Backup+)
ROM from different device with same build number?
My question is just the opposite: I can't find ROM.zip for my phone model (MT6575 GT One Ex), however I found ROM.zip from another different device with identical build number as mine: ALPS.ICS.MP.V2.2 - may I use it for flashing?

You do not have a Samsung SGS3 I9300 phone its pointless posting here or flashing firmware for I9300.
Find a MT6575 GT One Ex forum via Google .

The question is about Samsung too (any device)
Dear JJEgan - my point was a very general question (which I googled and was directed here) - whether two ROMs with the same build number are interchangeable or not? (E.g. if my phone's original ROM has crashed, could I restore it with a ROM with the same build number, although from another device model?)
P.S. This forum hyperlink you pointed to - was actually created by me.
I've searched for the past hour on and off the forums about flashing the cyanogenmod 10 Rom to my Samsung Galaxy S3.
I Flashed with CF - ROOT 6.4
Model number - GT -I9300
Android Version - 4.1.1
Baseband version - I9300XXDLID
Couldn't really find a definite yes, an obviously don't want to brick my phone. If I can could anybody please link me to a noob guide on how to.
Thanks alot
- Kieran
yes you can http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1779426 <<< has complete guide too
well my advice is to not to flash it as i experienced some bugs like camera crashing upon focus and third party camera apps also crashed

I flashed the CM10 ROM on my phone last night...it's the "stable" ROM that was released on 13 Nov and it is awesome! I have a Sprint GS3 and it flashed very easily with TWRP. Check it out.

Hi there
I am a total novice so i apologize if my questions are a completely non-sense.
First of all a really big thanks to the developer who built this amazing and helpful toolkit.
My father is using an S3 European version Orange branded 4.1.2 Android version .I wanted to unlock it so it can work on different gsm carrier.I've installed ALLINONE option(Flashed Insecure boot,Recovery,Root,Busybox,Rename restore Files) Twrp Custom Recovery using the UNIFIED TOOLKIT.Then i used GalaxySimUnlock apk to unlock it.All went smoothly everything is working perfect the phone is unlocked.
Now i have 1 question:
If i'd like to use the official samsung software update because now is not working due to the rooting i am guessing or send the device back to warranty (unexpected undesirable event) I will have to use option no.8 present in the toolkit(Download extract +Flash Stock Rom via Odin). And will my phone remain unlocked OR option number 2-Unroot Option will be enough?(I mention that i didn't yet installed any Custom Rom).
Thank you so much!
The most stable custom Rom available
Going to flash my first custom Rom.Need your professional advice.Which one is being considered the most stable Custom Rom?Which version of Omega Series to be more precise, already downloaded the latest version V42 but read on the forum there are some little bugs I will be very grateful for your help Thanks

What rom best rom posts are banned .
You choose .
No custom rom is bug free decide if the bugs rule the rom out or not .
Later is generally better for any rom build .
Omega is updated very frequently .

Hi everyone : )
I have an unrooted ICS galaxy s2 device and I wanted to install a Jelly Bean ROM similar to the stock. After a little bit of search I think SuperNexus 2.0 is a suitable one, however I'm open to other recommendations.
I did a little googling but I am still confused, as I am new to this whole process and I fear bricking my device.
My inquiry is: If you could provide me with detailed steps, or point me out to useful links that are targeting my problem and would show me how to carry out this operation, that'd be great : )
Device Info:
Device type: Samsung Galaxy S2
My model number is GT-I9100
I've updated my OS to Android 4.0.3 using Kies.
With kernel version: 3.0.15-I9100JPLPF-CL644992
Build number: IML74LJPLPF
Update:
gatsonw suggestion was right on the spot (Y)
The steps I carried out, for others who had my issue:
1. I rooted my device using Odin to flash Siyah v5 Kernel
2. As a precaution I downloaded Titanium backup and made a full backup
3. Also, I made a nandroid backup of the device as well and copied it to my PC
4. I downloaded SuperNexus ROM from the thread I already pointed out above + google apps for Jelly Bean and stored both of them on my internal SD card
5. I made a wipe/factory reset of the device from recovery mode
6. I installed the SuperNexus ROM then the Google Apps from the internal SD card, also through recovery mode
7. Rebooted my device and enjoyed the new ROM

Don't worry, follow the steps on that thread and you'll be alright.
The only thing you have to do is to root your device and flash CWM, your best choice is flashing siyah kernel (it'll get you rooted & you'll have CWM).
Where can you find siyah v5? gokhanmoral.com

helo may i ask what kernel version that i'll use for my gt-i9100

how to root this kind of phone, help me please? thankyou
PhilZ-cwm6 which version
Hi,
I have a samsung gallaxy S2 and I am rather confused which version of PhilZ-cwm6 kernel to use. I am wanting to use the most current version possible and I am not sure what version that is nor kernel code. I am wanting to root stock android. When I flashed from stock ICS to JB I used the following offical rom XFC-I9100XWLSS-20130817002141.zip and see below for attached screenshot of my phone details, there are differences in the kernel numbers which is causing confusion. I hope that is all the info that is required. Thank you so much in advance for your reply.
hi all
i need to know which version of kernel best for rom >> I9100XWLSD << ?
I have a GS2 I9100XWLSW, suffering the EMMC brick bug. Still with original kernel, and recovery. Rooted with Framaroot.
I'd want to install Philz in order to install either Omnirom or Cyanogen.
I have seen in the Philz's original thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31310884&postcount=3 ) the link to my PDA version (v5.06.1 ). However on goo.im ( http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/i9100 ) I can find a higher updated version (v6.48.4), however this one has no description assuring me that's the correct file for PDA LSW. Is it, also considering my EMMC bug? Or maybe it's just the recovery, without the kernel? If that's the point, then WHERE I can find the latest kernel+recovery for my phone?
Also, which install method should I prefer: update through the zip file, or flash through Odin? First one seems easier, but I heard that it may have problems installing certain Cyanogen versions from the Philz's temporary recovery. I'd want to install Lollipop from either Omnirom or Cyano as soon as they become reasonably stable.. also, Philz v5.06.1 comes with CWM 6.0.3.2, but isn't CWM 6.0.4.4+ required to install KitKat or higher?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I also noticed that some zip files are marked LSW-XEU, while others are LSW-OXX.. how do I know which is mine? Actually the complete details of my phone are:
PDA: I9100XWLSW
PHONE: I9100XXMS3

Hi,
What you are looking for is the kernel code in the rom build. On mine I can see it under "About device" at the end of build number - I9100XWLSH, it is the XWLSH part you are looking for. You can also see it if you download terminal emulator from the playstore. Just run the terminal and type getprop and press enter. Scroll up until you find [ro.build.PDA]: this is the rom. Again it is the last part of this you need. Hope this helps

I'm not sure I understand, but if you are talking about the stock rom, you should get the latest version for your region. If you want a rooted version of stock I would choose one that has a modified kernel available from the ones @Phil3759 developed. That is, the ones under the latest version in the main thread

The listed files are not kernels, they are updated recoveries. To root your stock rom, you need to find the the kernel below the latest recoveries and match the rom to the kernel code as described in the main thread. You can then flash the latest recovery, then reboot into recovery if you want to for example flash a kitkat or lollipop rom. The older recovery embedded in the modified kernel won't be compatible with these later android versions

Rom for Samsung galaxy s2 I9100P
Hi,
I have attached my device screenshot. I am unable to choose the correct ROM according to the Kernel version. Requesting you to provide the link to the correct file i can choose to root the phone.
Thanks
Unbrick..
Download Philz Kernel in .tar format and instal it over Odin 3.0.7 ie than whwn boot up, download on ur internal or better external sd card kernel and recovery(sometimes it is the same one file) and restart ur mob in recovery and instal that new/old recovery which u previosly got before boot loop or bricking... than reinstal ur system or if u have backup just restore it,. Important part is that u need same Recovery u did before U braked up Ur system... Ask 4 more
