Memory storage issue - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Why does my i777 show two partitions a 2gb and 12 GB? All my apps are installing to the 2 Gb partition and it looks like I reached my limit? Did I make a partition by accident in kernel settings? Can I revert back?

That's weird because on my nexus 4 I have one partition and I can use it to install apps and use it for what ever else I need. So when I fill up those 2 GB with apps I can't do anything else to install more?

By default, apps install on the 2gb partition. If there is separate data that needs to be downloaded (like for games), it will install on the 12gb partition. If you're running out of room, go to the app manager and move some apps to the "sd card" (which is actually the 12gb partition, not your external sd card).

(Q) Ext2/Ext3 vs. Froyo App2SD

What are the advantages and benefits of both of these options?
If I'm constantly switching ROMs what would be a better option in order not to install of restore every single app when the ROM is changed?

Hi,
1)Ext2,Ext3 are external partitions you create on your sd card in order to link or move apps from the phone and free up internal memory. This is the case for Eclair(2.1) or lower only.
2)Froyo onwards, there is a native apps2sd which would automatically be able to move apps to the FAT portion of your sd card which means there is now no need for any partitions to be created and not recommended either.
As you can now see, point 1 above is born out of necessity arising from the inadequacy in the older operating system!
Trust this clarifies.
...............do press the Thanks button if this helps...............
app2sd
hi i actualy use link2sd and works perfects for me i have fat32 part and i can move almost any app. not the system apps. i dont ever try apps2sd because i olnly use this app in all my roms i use. cheers
I agree with sathkartha, but would like to mention one advantage of installing an app on an Ext2 / 3 / 4 partition:
When mounting the SD card on a computer, only the FAT(32) partition is mounted on the computer. The Ext2 / 3 / 4 partitions remain mounted on the phone, allowing for running apps installed on such partitions while the FAT partition is mounted on the computer.
Thanks for the info guys, now as far as changing roms every time one is released, will the apps installed on the EXT partition remain as long as they are non permanent running apps or widgets, like games and/or apps.
I would also like to know, how can i relink and restore ext2 apps once i install a new rom?

Memory question and others

Hi, yesterday I bought the Galaxy Player 3.6 8GB. Now when I look at my available memory it's far from 8GB, so I have 4.73GB internal memory and Internal device storage I have 1.86GB. Already rooted so have delete some of the stock apps but every app I removed just gave me more internal device storage and I would rather have it as internal memory storage of course, Is there any way to do this?
My other question is that there is a lot of apps installed that are actually phone apps (dialer, etc) would this give problems if I remove these seeing as I will never use it to make phone calls.
Thanks in advance
That is on all devices..i have nexus 16 gb and 13 gb free..rest is system files.

There is a 2GB /data partition (where apps are) and a 5GB /sdcard partition (where your files are). You cannot combine them.

So if I install apps they will go into the data partition and not in the sdcard partition or is the data partition only for the stock apps?

I already know that, but on other device, you can get your sd card reconize as internal storage with script or modification.
So you get a bigger storage, that what we need

Stock apps are on /system. Apps from the market go in /data, unless you move them to the external SD, and then they will go there.

Assuming you are on CM10:
If you're looking in .android_secure, that is the app itself, and that bug is fixed with the latest kernel (uploading now).
Otherwise, you are looking at game data. To move that to external, uncomment the "switchablepair" line in build.prop and reboot. Note that any data in /storage/sdcard0/Android/data (mostly app cache) will not be moved, so you need to either copy it over before rebooting, or let it redownload.
For non-cm10 roms, all of the above applies except the bug and the exact line in build.prop. For example, some ROMs always have it uncommented, but have a line saying "ro.vold.switchexternal=0". In that case, change it to 1 to switch them.

am not sure what is CM10. If you are referring to the screen which comes up when we start the player using Power-up+volume+home button, then there I see this CMW-based Recovery V5.0.2.7. I'm posting on your ROM thread because I've some confusion on how to install your rom

for build.prop, i'm using this guide on how to access it (http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...ds-cse&usg=AFQjCNEe0O89F81Y5NpJ5mXVf7b4DRDO-g).
playing with this file seems a little dangerous. I'm using the following kernel and ROM.
[Kernel][JB][YP-G70] Mercurius v2
[ROM][YP-G70][JB]PARANOID ANDROID v2.57
I see the following in the build.prob. Is that ok, or do I've to change something?
Code:
You can tweak the next 4 properties
# Uncomment to switch internal and external storage
@ ro.vold.swtichablepair=/storage/sdcard0,/storage/sdcard1

Verizon Galaxy S4 Memory Issues

Attached is the picture from my storage page. Prior to this I deleted a few apps and I thought I had enough space to download GTA Vice City. Halfway through is stopped and had an available space error. What was downloaded was still appearing in memory so I went into recovery and wiped both the cache and delvik cache. I also wiped the play store app and google services framework data and caches so I could try to reset the issue. Since then other apps have been unable to update or download due to "insufficient space", and google music won't play because of it. How can I get this cleared up?
I am running stock android rooted with clockworkmod touch recovery.
Thanks
Try folder mount app in market to free up all that space. I haven't tried it personally but I heard it works for some.
Moves big apps to sdcard and link them as if they were installed on phones memory.

exFAT is a newer format that's Microsoft proprietary. The primary advantage over FAT32 is that it allows files greater than 4 Gb.
So, the likely problem is that your backup was bigger than 2Gb and couldn't be stored on FAT32.
Just a guess since you didn't say exactly what you used for the backup.
And exFAT isn't buggy, it's just less frequently supported.
Hope this helps.

[Q] App Storage

Hi there,
I was wondering if somebody could answer, why the App Storage for the Desire X is limited to 2.9 GB. Apparently some apps can no lobger be Moved and I currently seem to have only 18 MB free. An installation of an update of Facebook (19 MB) or Chrome (36 MB) often fail unless I have cleared all the cahces.
Can somebody tell me how to increase this space? I have used cache Cleaner to Move all apps to sd card that were possible to move.
Maybe sb. has some ideas.
Thanks
Andy
You can install a micro SD card and move a few apps to SD if possible. If that's not enough, root your phone, partition your sd card so it has an ext4 partition and install Link2SD from Google Play. Then, you can move any apps to your sd card.

How can i install a micro SD card???:good:
i can insert one though
I think I moved all the Apps I can and I don't think rooting will do the trick.
Under AppStorage in Settings I used up 2.73 GB / 2.90 GB
Apps 0.91 GB
Other 1.81 GB
I am stumbling over the Other category.
I recently found out that my camera actually saved to phone memory and not to my sd card. I changed it now and actually moved the files.
But why is other so high here? If Apps only take up 0.91 GB that would be fine.
Did your clear the apps caches? Maybe it helps.

Anybody else have some tips on how to ghet rid of all this dats in Other?
What is in that anyway? It's not apps, is it?

Zte nubia z5s mini - storage space

Hello, I have a problem with my Nubia z5s mini. I have a ROM in which I just have 2GB for installing apps. Anybody knows any ROM with more space for apps or any way to change this space? Because the phone has 16GB ROM and now I have just 2GB for apps and it is not enough for me. I know I can move apps to SD card but it's not enough.
Thank you!!

Interesting that the system partition is that big. Anyway, download the app DiskUsage and figure out what's taking most space in the /media/Android/data folder. (And other places too).
