I don't mean to ask a noob question here, but will there be a flashable ROM of the MJ7 4.3 OS for those of us still on MDK with Loki recovery?
Seems like there are ODIN images, and ways to keep root for those on MI1, but nothing yet for those of us who actually give a **** and have avoided updating and have been waiting patiently for a solution w can use...?

Absolutely. The devs just need time to work on it. Nitro already has an alpha build. Data's broke but it'll get there.

Soo im new with this rooting stuff and my friend was telling me that I need to "install a recovery" with clockwordmod. Im trying to get 4.4 on my phone. can someone explain this to me without sounding to confusing? I am rooted, i have rom manager and super user. But thats as far as I've gotten. Any help would be great, thanks!!

You got SU permission? Download the CAM loki zip that's is in another forum here. Instructions are there for ya. Super simple and easy as long as you have root permission
unless you on another bootloader than MDK. Only MDK can install recoveries. All others use safestrap

I suggest you do some serious reading here in XDA and there are a number of youtube videos also. Unless you have a S4 that came with MDK base, you can not load any custom recovery out there like phiz or twrp or Cwm and you limited to safestrap and the roms that are specifically compatible with safestrap. Good luck to you.
Yes I definitely agree with reading a lot.... borderline till your eyes bleed. Lol
Joking aside I've been working with android development for a few years now and the s4 can be difficult to understand for someone new to it.
If your on a build that allows you install a recovery then your in luck (mdk). However if you're like the rest of us on a locked bootloader then you need to use the safe strap process.
It's not hard just need to do your research.
Good luck

Ok, so your on mj7 which means you need to get root if you don't already have it, install safe strap 3.7 and then load a custom rom to one of its rom slots.
I would read the safe strap thread to get more info before you jump into it.

You can flash some custom ROMs, but no custom recovery, no CM (until someone ports it to the Touchwiz kernel), and no AOSP (ditto).
For rooting, go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565758
Read the Safestrap thread in that forum for more info on what you can do to boot custom ROMs.
My phone is already rooted, but I'll read over the thread for more info!!

There is leaked copy of 4.4.2 for ATT with new a new bootloader

This is NOT to be flashed on the Verizon variant, because you know somebody out there is going to want to try.

because people are stupid!!!!!!!!!!!
A new bootloader means there's a good chance we may soon be able to flash custom recovers right?
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
It is very doubtful unless they find an exploit that wasn't in the MK2 bootloader.
You can flash back to 4.3 after you flash this leak. It doesn't trip the qfuse. But once the official release is out that might change but yeah people on VZW should not flash this.

This might be good news. If the kernel changed for 4.4 and you can flash back devs might find a work around.

Currently on Jelly Beans 7 with MDK and using TWRP recovery on my Verizon S4. I've been using this for so long without much desire to update..
Starting to get the urge to update again.
What am I missing staying on mdk 4.2.2?
And if I do decide to upgrade, is TWRP still the recovery of choice?
What's my upgrade path from here? Flash back to stock mdk and take OTA, or move directly to a rooted 4.3 ROM?

Do not take an ota. You have the most desirable build #

I agree. I wouldn't take the OTA. There are 4.3 and 4.4 based ROMs that you can flash. Once you upgrade, you'll be stuck on whatever build Samsung issues (right now, that's 4.3).

You should just flash a 4.3 ROM. Search the android development thread. There's no need to loose your unlocked bootloader.

MDK doesn't have an unlocked bootloader... They just have an exploit that allows a workaround.
I agree with everyone above. Don't take the OTA. Since you have MDK you also have a custom recovery and can flash many ROMs. There are many flavors on 4.3 and 4.4 available currently. Read about them, the available features, and such. Then decide what you want.
OP: Should I upgrade from MDK??
XDA: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Fyar4wJ3-Y
We know the bootloader isn't actually unlicked on mdk.... I think that's just lamans terms so people know what they have lol. Seriously no offense to the op at all.... Its just amazing how some people are running custom recoveries and ROMs on MDK s4's and then think of taking ota's
Sent from my unknown using Tapatalk
Just in case OP is confused I want to clarify that MDK is the bootloader. You want to preserve that because it allows the installation of custom recoveries. This is separate from the baseband which may also be labeled MDK. You can always update your Radio baseband without losing root, however you would not want to do this with an OTA. You would want to download this from xda as a flashable zip.
A lot of development since I first browsed here awhile ago. I'm on 4.2.2 and have no idea what to do.
I think the Eclipse ROM is compatible with SS for AOSP UI. Haven't used it myself though. I think you'd have to update to 4.3 for it though. Don't quote me on that.

What do you mean by you are on ME7.... are you on an ME7 based ROM? or are you on the official ME7 stock verizon build?
If you are rooted and not on an MDK bootloader then you will have to use safestrap and flash a safestrap safe ROM which there are a bunch now.

At this point if your not on an MDK s4 and are on the me7 stock firmware I'd suggest looking into updating your phone to MK2 then root it and install SafeStrap.
There are a lot of ROM options out now for that setup. Not really anymore being made for ME7 I don't believe.
Like they said though read up 1st so you know what you're getting into. And if you do decide to go that route just Odin MK2 on your phone... Nice an easy. This of course if you're NOT on an MDK based phone running an ME7 ROM

As of now guys we all are stuck with a locked and stock 4.4 sch-i605. When or if they find a method i dont know if knox would be a huge deal at that point. I rooted my wifes sch-i747 (att s3) and supersu disabled knox no problem. Seems that the devs may have moved on to other projects. Lets just hope SOMEONE gets around to our device. --waiting patiently--
Considering that Knox is the premier security program to be included on every Android L phone not just Samsung, I doubt the amount of time needed to circumvent is not worth the effort on the 605. Don't hold your breathe that we will ever get root.

the only thing you can do (and idk if everyone can do it) is to odin flash back to 4.3 (MJ9) and then root from there.
unfortunately that doesnt include a bootloader unlock. but then you can safestrap and install /any/ touchwiz rom

Can you confirm if you've actually been able to successfully do this? If you have, then this would be great news for those who want root, but took the OTA up to 4.4.2.

Yes, I did this myself on my phone before I switched out the motherboards.
From ND7, you can flash back to MJ9, and then you can root, and then use safestrap to install certain specific ROMs
I will edit this post if i find a link to a tutorial
Damn I downgraded from ND3, not ND7, my apologies.
Here is the Link anyway http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2752360
I don't have a way to test if there is a way to downgrade.

Cool. Thanks for the confirmation. I knew you could go from ND3 back to MJ9, but I had read somewhere else where someone speculated that you couldn't revert back to MJ9 from ND7 due to the locked bootloader issue... I'm still on 4.1.2 with unlocked bootloader, so I can't test it either.
