I currently have the Epic 4g Touch on Sprint and I wanted some input on whether my fellow S2 owners were happy with their upgrade to the S3. The only reason I'm considering holding off is Sprints non existent LTE. According to S4GRU my area isn't supposed to have LTE work done until November
So...
Was it worth it? Or were you a bit underwhelmed? OR was is super freaking amazing
And I promise I did a search before posting this and found no threads about this exactly. If there is one, kindly link me.
I did, with a Galaxy Nexus in between. They aren't even in the same league.
I loved my S2 till the last second. But the S3 is one beautiful phone. Definitely a step up and the screen is gorgeous. No regrets here.
I think with the S series we are blessed. From S1 to S2 and now the S3 there were large improvements. Unlike Apple. I've had all Apple versions as a second phone and the latest still feels like the original.

No regrets from s2 to s3 ! loved my s2 and just love the s3 more
Thanks guys really glad to hear it. I'm also torn between this and the Evo LTE but I'll save that for another thread

My wife may sell you a evo lte ...she freaking hates it....nexus is better than epic touch just for screen and separate recovery partition..galaxy $3 has separate recovery and won't have to worry about bricking it because of Samsung and their kernel

No, in my opinion not really worth it. There's very little new it can do.
mine loses 2-3% on standby at night with everything on apart from s-voice (i deleted it )
just put the 2 of em together and look at the screens you will see its worth it
not to mention the quad core cpu sleek design (its way better in real life) the camera the new software features
if you think the s2 runs smooth and fast try the s3

Nah I'll pass. I have an upgrade July 1st Funny you mentioned the Nexus. I almost considered that for the design alone. I still think it looks better than any phone on the market right now. But with the battery life of the LTEvo/S3 I don't know it getting a nexus now would be a good choice

I had SGS2, then swapped it to Omnia W which was a huge mistake. Then I sold the Omnia and started using my backup phone Ideos X5 and bought Transformer Prime next to it. With that combination I survived till SGS3 was finally in my hands and I am glad to be back. Unfortunately Transformer Prime is nowhere near SGS3 in terms of performance and software.
SGS2 was an awesome phone and SGS3 is better in every way.

At first I was not so happy because of the lack of roms but now with CM9 nightlies, siyahkernels and Wanamlite roms I'm really happy I made the switch. I don't know about most of you, but but my s2 screen was turning yellow.. I hope my s3 won't have those screen problems. I other than that I really love my s3!

Go hold a evo lte and galaxy s3 the build quality is not close.....the Samsung blows the evo away...the only thing that may be better is the screen on evo.....but you HTC fan boys all say build quality is better and it has not been since the evo og. The evo lte in my opinion is a step in the right direction but you can't argue that shift, 3d where not ****ty phones.... Samsung has destroyed HTC from galaxy 2 to galaxy 3 now....

I don't have anyway here in the states to hold an S3 yet but I've have held and evo LTE and I'm impressed by the build and the premium feel.
S3 + CheckRom + Siyah and I'm gob-smacked. It was good before but now it's at a different level.
It was a sad day when I sold the S2, but the S3 made me forget it very quickly. Massive upgrade.
Big improvements in screen, camera, audio, call quality, GPS (1000 times better) plus look and feel. It has better battery life and charges quickly.
How could it not be an upgrade!

Everything it does is improved over the S2.
Its blazingly fast.
It lasts forever.
It has a massive bright screen.
The screen stays on while you're watching it unless you turn smart stay off.
GPS is greatly improved because it supports GLONASS satellites too, and locks on a lot faster.
Nfc is infinitely useful when combined with programmable NFC tags.
Its light years ahead.

There are couple things I realize after switching to GS3 from GS2.
*Please notice that comments are based on unrooted version (no custom rom) and personal preferences.
Pros
1. Screen is really nice, love the larger screen.
2. Phone seems to be faster in some way, but have not really notice a big difference yet with my current usage load. (actually i did notice some lag in between switching apps, not sure if it is because of ram or what)
3. Love the new camera app, almost no lag time between shots, continuous shooting.
4. like the smart stay feature, even though there is a new app that can do the same.
Cons
1. The brightness adjustment through the notification bar is not available(had to download another app to do that).
2. Swype is not pre-loaded (had to download the beta version)
3. Not sure if I am correct on this one and if it should be considered as 'bad': RAM shows 780mb in GS3 and 837mb in GS2, maybe it reserved more ram for the CPU/GPU in the GS3??
4. The 'active applications' widget is not available in GS3 or maybe I just didn't find it...?
Overall i like the new GS3, the screen definitely is beautiful, would be better if the quad-core already comes with the 2gb ram like the recent Korean version does.
I'll be coming from the original S, I probably wouldn't even be rushing to upgrade if not for the upgraded camera with flash. But excited of course nonetheless, just a bit worrisome over the toughness of the 3, as my original is pretty much invincible.
So I decided to check out the DNA for a minute. I got to say, not a fan one bit. I just didn't like it at all, didn't see it as an upgrade from the GS3. It just solidified my choice in the GN2.
Anyone else check it out today?

Yep - and couldn't agree more. I'm a twofer - two main devices and whereas the GN2 is going to replace my Bionic - there is no way I can justify switching my ReZound for the DNA.

I was set on the Droid DNA. Even had a work around DNA memory and battery to accommodate the DNA. After stopping by verizon, i have jump ship to Note 2.
Comparing My GS3 with DNA
Holding both phone, DNA feel less solid and cheap for some reason. From all the vids and pictures, the phone look amazing.
1080p didnt wow me enough, my phone looks brighter.
Not a Fan of Sense 4+, HTC have nothin over samsung motions. I am so use to swipe to call and text.
I do like the back soft touch tho. Also like the red grills. The phone is too long to have a power button on top.
Glad i didnt preorder the DNA, would have been disappointed. Note 2 here i come!
Sense just ruins it. If it was running pure android, it would be amazing.

Agree with you there. GS4 more worth the wait than to get the Droid DNA now. Either get Galaxy Note 2 now or get Galaxy S4 later.
I played with one as well and I was not impressed. I thought the jump to 1080p would be similar to 720p like last year but I was mistaken. And after you get past the screen it just felt normal; I have no desire to use it again. But with the Note 2 I've used it 5 times at various locations while I wait for my pre-order to ship. I'm actually eager to play with it again. I finally figured out how to use multi-view and I can't wait until that feature is fully opened to all apps.
All said I just ordered a 64gig micro SD card to seal my purchase. Just one more week!
I felt that the display contrast, black levels, and color saturation are disappointing on the DNA. Now I am debating the note 2 vs waiting on GS4.

I have the confidence that the Note 2 will keep me entertained when the S4 comes out. Plus I don't see the S4 coming out over 5 inches and it will not have the S-Pen. The one positive is that we should have a sneak peak at the Note 3 when the S4 is released if Samsung follows the same formula.
I had the US Cellular version of the Note 2 for a week, and I've had my DNA since yesterday. So far this is what I've noticed:
Build quality seems superior on the DNA. The rounded glass screen, soft touch plastic, aluminum red grilles, compared to the slippery and cheaper looking plastic of the Note 2.
The display was a huge selling point, and while I agree the resolution is amazing in the sense that I can not see any pixelation, it doesn't seem as vibrant or bright as the Note 2. I wouldn't consider the screens to be a deciding factor.
The battery life is pretty horrible on the DNA. With the Note 2 and my previous Thunderbolt w/ extended battery, I only charged my phone at night and went unplugged from 7AM to 11PM with anywhere from 40-60% battery left with light/moderate use. With the DNA, I went 6 hours with moderate use before the battery dipped down to 30%. If you get the DNA, you WILL need to keep the phone tethered to a charger. I'll have to keep it plugged in at work, and when I get home from work.
Storage isn't a huge issue for me as I don't use close to the 16GB capacity, but it's always nice having more memory, especially expandable memory.
Signal strength. I can't really compare the two as the Note 2 was on US Cellular, but I can say that the DNA gets excellent signal strength, both on Verizon and on WiFi. I get WiFi signal in places where my Thunderbolt did not, and so far coverage with Verizon seems to be a tad better than the Thunderbolt. As a comparison, my Thunderbolt consistently gets better signal strength than my friends GS3 on Verizon.
The speaker in the DNA is amazing, I had it turned up all the way and there was no distortion at all. I couldn't believe how loud and clear it was!
Ergonomics. The DNA is awesome in this area, with the rounded glass edges, curved back, and soft touch back this phone feels AWESOME in the hand. Unlike the Note 2, it doesn't feel like it's going to slip and fall. It's also usable with one hand, unlike the Note 2 which you can only use a portion of the screen when holding it in one hand.
I also noticed that the Note 2 is slightly too wide to fit in most cup holders in cars, while the DNA fits in perfectly.
Hmm I thought it looked slick - much more than the Note 2 which really isn't slick looking when held to your head lol. Still going with the Note 2. I can't easily reach the status bar and the buttons while using it one handed (without changing grip and feeling awkward) - but I like the extra screen space and always use my Incredible held landscape 2 handed anyways.
I definitely can't say it wouldn't be smart to buy the DNA though. I personally would over the GS3 - mostly because of its much better processor.

I thought it was pretty cool, but honestly maybe too thin. I like my phone to be small, but not like paper thin... Even holding it attached to the display it felt like it might fall out of my hand at any time. That along with a tiny battery and no SD card slot will keep me away. I will say that the display is quite beautiful though.
I picked up the DNA thinking I could test it and if I don't like it I could always return it and hopefully by then the Note 2 would be out. But right now I'm not sure if I want to return it. I really do like this phone a lot, but (and I can't believe I'm saying this) I do miss Touchwiz. Samsung has really been doing some great things with it. I also like the idea of the S-Pen a lot.
I do have the Note 10.1 but I still think I may want that same experience in my pocket. But the DNA really is nice so I'm not sure. I do hate that damn power button on the top though. . .

Since you already have a Note 10.1 I don't think I would have 2 Note devices. My plan was to get the DNA and keep my Nexus 7 or get the Note 2 and sell my Nexus 7. After playing with the DNA it felt like another phone, nothing special. After playing with the Note 2 I was sold. There is no doubt in my mind that the Note 2 will last until the Note 3 comes out. I can't say the same about the DNA when the S4 comes out with 1080p display, Sd card clot and removable battery.

The Exynos 5 is faster (at least quad vs quad) but there's no way that the DNA is going to be slow or unusable in less than a year. People who don't need much storage will be fine.

Imo its to the point where upgrading is not a huge gain anymore. None of these new phones are a "huge" upgrade over the s3. Im still debating on getting the note2, this will probably be my last upgrade for awhile. All these little gimmick add-ons are just wooing folks into getting the latest and greatest every 6mo. Its beginning to look like a waste of money imo. I honestly do not think the dna comes close to being a worthy 200 upgrade over my s3 and the same goes for the note2 @ 300. The **** is getting rediculous! The s3 is powerful enough to handle udates for years to come, but its already been superceeded by devices that are not much better imo. Quad core is not going to be a huge upgrade...ram is much more important along with gpu. 4.8" screen is plenty big...end rant.

I don't think it's worth upgrading every 6 months (I never did), but if you have an available upgrade, the DNA's gpu is twice as fast as the S3. Not really being utilized yet, but within 2 years it very well could be. RAM actually doesn't matter that much since programs tend to be small and compact. 2GB is plenty and having a quad core means you can play a game with no background task like facebook getting in the way. Our phones easily have much more than 4 threads going on at once.
OK. So I have the chance to get the note 2 at the discount upgrade price (currently $199 on amazon) I currently have the s3 and I like it. My friend got a note 2 and I didn't get to play with it much aside from holding it for a minute. So I want to ask the folks who have made the same switch If you would do it again or if its not worth it. Just to get a few things out of the way. I have huge hands so that's not an issue. I also like to flash ROMs and have root, how is the devolpment compared to the s3? Thanks for any responses.

Battery life is awesome. Haven't completely drained it yet and I'm a heavy user. Screen sensitivity is perfect. I seriously haven't a complaint yet. The only issue I have is the Verizon branding on the home button. Battery, reception, call quality are fantastic. Actually the visibility in sunlight isn't too great but that is seriously the only thing I can think of.
I got the S3 on release day and then the Note II. I think the Note II blows it out of the water in almost every single way. The only place that the S3 was better at was the audio. The music out of the 3.5 mm headphone jack is not as punchy and seems to have a tighter range in general on the Note 2 compared to the S3, in my opinion. It's a minor disappointment that is by no means a deal breaker though, I listen to music on it all the time and you can tweak the equalizer to compensate somewhat.

I had the Galaxy Nexus for like ten days. I couldn't stand the battery life and the bad reception. Honestly, that phone was a big turn off for me when it came to Samsung. It was one of the reasons why I went back to my iPhone 4S.
Now the Note is a beast. It's perfect in every way except for the branding and the flimsyness of the back cover. I have a Seidio Surface case so I don't even notice the back cover anymore.

I went to the N2 because the radio/reception on the S3 was abysmal. Most people in 4g areas had no problem with it, but there are a huge number of complaints by people like myself that had terrible reception in fringe 4g and even solid 3g areas. I was leary about buying the N2 just because of my previous samsung experience. The S3 was litterally great for everything I did, except using it as a phone. In the end I am glad I bought a N2. This thing is deffenitely far superior to the S3. The size does not matter to me at all, you get used to it fast. The reception is easily twice as good. I can now get 4g at my desk at work where I used to get no signal at all on the S3. I love the stylus and started sketching again simply because of the ability. It truly is the best device I have ever had.

yea, there are a number of things wrong in the comparison.
quad core vs dual care to begin with.
then, it states for camera settings:
Has manual iso Yes vs No This allows to manually set the ISO level.
Has manual white balance Yes vs No This allows to manually set the white balance.
Both these statements are wrong. I own both phones and BOTH allow manual ISO and WB settings

Still have my S3. Awesome phone but doesn't hold a candle to the Note 2. Battery easily lasts a full day with heavy use, probably 2+ days with lighter use. 6-7 hours screen on time is typical. The screen is obviously bigger on the Note, but it's also way brighter. No issues seeing the screen even in full daylight. This phone is a beast.
Also check out flygrip.com. The single most valuable accessory I've bought for this phone. I can comfortably and conveniently touch every corner of the screen with one hand, without having to balance the phone, maneuver around, or even really "hold" the phone for that matter. It just hangs from your finger tips. The flygrip also doubles as a kick stand, which I use all the time in landscape if I'm watching videos and reverse portrait if it's sitting on my desk-firmly propped up and I can use my S Pen with it.

I had a Galaxy S4 and I honestly couldn't stand it. Sure, it benchmarked higher than the Note 2, but after 8 days of use some of the buttons stopped working. Also, there's no bootloader unlock for the new firmware yet so we only got root. I used ODIN to go back to the stock firmware and wiped the device, went to Verizon and got my $650 back. I'm glad I'm back here.

Wow you paid 650 cash?
Welcome back.
As I have posted a couple times, although the Note 2 has inferior specs it's still a better device overall. This is just my opinion but I feel like a lot of people would agree with me.

I do! :good:
I got the S4 on release and I like it. Just put my SIM in my Note 2 today for the first time since I got the S4 and it really does perform. The specs are higher on the S4 but I can't tell the difference. My only issue with the Note is it's size, which was the reason I bought it. I just can't do some things one handed, things I didn't think would matter. But, if size hadn't been an issue, this guy would still be my dd. Also, since I bought the S4 at release, it's unlocked and running PACman 4.3 and running it well. If I couldn't run AOSP, I wouldn't want it either.
I'm grandfathered in on unlimited data and buy all my devices unsubsidized.

Should've used that 650 for the note 3. I can never go back to a smaller screen, even if it is somewhat inferior from a hardware standpoint.

all day everyday and twice on sunday :good:
I just returned a Galaxy S4 I bought last week for a Note 2 on Friday and had it flashed to work on Pageplus.
The battery life on the S4 was terrible even after tweaking the phone.
So far the Note 2 is far better.

A bigger battery will do that for you.

I switched to an S4 on two separate occasions. Each time I came back to the Note 2 for the screen size.

I sold my note 2 in craigslist for $450, found a brand new galaxy s4 for $499. $49 to upgrade meh.
Even with a gs4 rooted with cm10, it couldn't hold a candle to my note. Sure, the screen was brighter and sharper, but the build quality on the gs4 is horrible.
Needless to say I quickly sold the gs4 on swappa for $550. Picked up another note 2 off craigslist for $375.
The only thing that can drag me away from my note 2 is a note 3. I just hope the note 3 build quality is better than the gs4.
Seems like Samsung's build quality is actually regressing with each new device

I'm hooked on the SPEN, can't imagine getting another phone unless it has it.
I got rid of my GS4 yesterday and will be waiting for the GN3 announcement in 13 days. Looking forward to a hopefully quick launch. Rumors now say S800 variant is all that will be launching first since the Exynos 5420 is having issues (go figure) so maybe Verizon will launch it right away.

I love the Notes size, other phones seem so small when I mess with apps on em now.
after having the note 2, not really sure what my next phone will be. Tired of dropped calls in my house where HTC phones never had problems. Might try the femtocel route, but verizon wants me to pay for it. Moto droid ultra maxx is interesting, esp since I have plex working perfectly now so I don't need 64gb of media on my phone.

I'd rather go for hardware quality than superficial looks of a device. Looks don't control the performance/quality.

I did the same thing. I sold my S4 and bought the G2. I do not miss the S4 at all, only the SD card slot.
The screen is very pretty and bright, battery life is so. much. better. And everything else is very peppy quick.
You will not be disappointed.
Alright I'm sold. Thanks guys!

I also sold my S4 and got the G2. I haven't missed the S4 at all. The S4 is a good device and I enjoyed it. However, the G2 blows it out of the water in terms of build quality and performance. The camera and call quality is also great on the G2. The only thing missing is SD card. However, I only had a 16gb card in my S4 anyway, so it equals out for me.

Swapped my S4 with G2. Then, purchased another G2 for my wife. ?

The battery life alone is worth the trade
(Also look at my samsung record. The grass is much greener on the other side)
Did the same, never looked back. If the g2 was marketed by Samsung, it would have been their hottest selling phone since the s3.

I currently have the S4. I'm on T-Mobile and about ready to JUMP. Don't want another Sammy like the note 3 however I sure would miss the SD card if I came to the G2. I understand there's about 27 GB to play with. I was hoping for the flex to be out by the end of the month but alas not till maybe April. I never liked this s4. I got it mostly because I was tired of my HTC one s. So how is the G2 for ease of rooting?

Anyways I posted my problems with the G2 coming from an S4 , the issues are still there .
One more issue I have found with this phone that simply bothers me is that the menu buttons bar doesn't fade away when browsing, playing games, reading books ,etc... they only go away when watching videos. Why couldn't LG make them fade and bring them up with a tap? That would make too much sense, having the menu bar on the screen make the phone feel like a 5" screen anyways just like the S4.
So a recap of my issues and see if they are going to bother you:
1. GPS slower to lock / no lock at all --- *update - It seems fine now but first week it was bad.
2. Back buttons keep turning on and taking pics - Still giving me problems and my buddy who uses loose pants same thing , it happened to him, any pressure on them while sitting down and your phone in your pocket it will wake the phone, quite frankly the back buttons were a big gamble by LG , some like me are probably never going to get used to them or like them there.
3. Sound is too low - Yup still bothersome, even at max level the sound is pretty low, I think the speaker placement is an issue. Hope for an LG update fix. S4 not problems, not the loudest like the HTC One but was fine.
4. Auto Brightness sucks - The S4 was king at auto brighness , hope LG issues a software update to fix.
5. Menu Bar Buttons - Mentioned above, I had to root the phone and get an auto Hide app to make them go away so I can use the full screen. But I feel a customer shouldn't have to root a phone to get things working. - On S4 no issues since buttons are off the screen.
Again some might think i'm a LG hater or something, I'm not, I actually like the phone a lot, I think the screen is superior than the S4, the UI believe it or not i think it's better than Touchwiz, the phone feels faster (and it should as it has a newer processor) than the S4 . But the issues I'm mentioning are real and hopefully can help you make a desicion. Some will post I never had those issues, which is fine lucky you but simply google them and you will see a lot of people reporting the same issues.
Good luck , me ? I'm 80% sure os of today i will use the JUMP upgrade and go back to Samsung as I felt the experience was overall better.

1> I agree GPS is slow to lock first time after a reboot, and is real crap indoors for me. Outside is much better. I had an S4 for a 6 days and it got GPS lock once after about 3 minutes, and the compass was always wrong.
2> I've never had that issue with the back buttons, and with the size of the screen, I'm glad they are on the back because I wouldn't be able to reach them on top.
3> If I wanted to run a party, I'd use a Bluetooth speaker. I've used the phone to play music in one room and been working in a room on the other floor, and still able to hear it.
4> Yup, auto brightness is crap.. S4 was the best I've ever seen for that. But.. Lux will fix that problem.
5> I personally like the bar always on. It isn't that the phone isn't working. It's that it isn't working the way you think they should be.
Then when you add in batter life and how much nicer the screen is.. I'm glad I switched. I had thought about just getting a different S4 assuming it was bad hardware causing gps/compass issues.. but haven't looked back. I do miss the ability to pull battery (haven't had any need too though), and the sdcard slot.
I traded mine my s4 for a g2 a few weeks ago and i love the change. Lg did a great job i love this phone, its better in every way except for the camera. Even though reviews say that the g2 camera is superior i don't agree i feel like the g2 camera was over hyped to me its really not that good. And the battery life is amazing but for me sometimes its also not so good it just drains for no reason. Im still glad about the change.

I sure appreciate the input of this thread. I would love to wait for the flex but I think I want to be rid of this S4 more. Sorry, this device just gnaws at me in a bunch of little ways... Its like, so many things that could have been just a little better... IMO.

I do not regret buying the G2 and giving my wife the S4. I just love this phone, I don't miss the amoled screen at all.
From S4 to G2
I also sold the S4 for the G2 and the only thing I miss is the sd card slot. An sd card slot would have made this phone perfect. The camera on the S4 is slightly better though in some respects, but the mods found in this forum make it much better.
I have both but use my G2 wayyyyy more. If the G2 had expandable storage (or 64g internal) and ditched the on screen nav buttons it would be pretty much perfect...i might even be able to own only one device lol
Sent from Canada via my G2, Note 3 or S4
Went from the S4 to HTC One to S4 back to HTC ONE to G2, lol. Personally, the S4 was the least appealing. Wasn't as sexy as the One, nor a powerhouse as the G2. Honestly, if I had to recommend a phone, it'd be the One, but only for a basic user who wants a badass phone.
For a REAL android user, G2 ALL THE WAY.
Plus the battery was easily better than both. I used to get about 3-4hrs max on screen time with both one and s4, but g2 easily hits 5hrs with 20-25% remaining.
