(Review) Supcase Unicorn Beetle Premium Hybrid Case - Galaxy Note 3 Accessories

Description:The Supcase Unicorn Beetle Premium Hybrid Case (that's a mouthful) is a hybrid protective case. It's a combination of soft TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) and hard polycarbonate. There are there cutouts on the top - one for the IR blaster, one for the mic, and one for the headphone port. There are overlay buttons for the power and volume controls. The bottom has an opening for the USB port, speaker, and stylus.
Included:
Case
Pros:
Size - it's a great balance of protection and practicality. Let's face it, the Note series is already a bit unwieldy, and a big bulky Otterbox will just make it even worse.
Materials - I like the combination of the matte and glossy on the rear. Overall it feels very sturdy, and has a nice appearance.
Cons:
None I've noticed thus far.
Summary: A solid case that will be staying on my phone - at least until Urban Armor Gear (UAG) releases their Note 3 case.

My bad on that - was thinking of a different case. There is no felt on this case.

Double post

Using this case myself. Absolutely love it. Only case that pried me away from my Diztronics. Feels like it will offer better drop protection.

I purchased this case and i must say it's top notch fit's very secuely , reasonable protection , looks good , feels very good in my hand.........:good:

I have the grey/clear version of this. It's a decent case for the price. Nothing terribly exciting. I expect the phone would survive the average drop with this case. Mine scratches relatively easily, but then I toss it in my purse with my keys, so no surprise there. It fits just fine with my I-Blason screen film. It is starting to show some black smudging from being in my black bag, but that happens with every light-colored case I've had.

it's so tight that it's a pain in the ass to remove...

the grip on the side rubber is nice but the back is very slippery. i "fixed" it by putting on a few strips of 3m film. this made the areas where i normally touch much more grippy. i noticed a slight bulge by the volume buttons. its not as tight as everywhere else. i see it on your pics too so i guess its not just mine
when the case is flat on its back, it wobbles when you press the phone button because there's no raised ridge down there like on the two sides...minor annoyance

How tight are the sides and the bottom of this case? Is it flimsy like other tpu cases?

I'll just paste my reply from the other Supcase unicorn Beetle review thread:
I got it in black along with the white Spigen Slim Armor and the black Caseology cases. On my black Note 3, I like the white Slim Armor better but my family and coworkers tell me that they prefer the Supcase Unicorn Beetle. The Supcase Unicorn Beetle also has a place to attache a wrist strap while the others do not. My least favorite is the Caseology case. It has cutouts for the buttons and the fake texture on the back is HORRIBLE.
Oh, and I also have an ugly Bear Motion bumper case (same as some other "Poetic" brand that we see floating around here). It's wouldn't be so bad if it were straight matte black but they made the rubbery bits gray and the black plastic bits high gloss.

Supcase Unicorn Beetle Review

Overall the case fits really good. Thin but enough to protect with smaller bumps. Has a lay on the table design though not the thickest lip to protect the screen. One thing I did find was that a hole near the headphone jack was covered so I took a small drill bit and opened it up. I think it might be a mic? Also my HP touchpad usb as well as an HTC usb cord had difficulties plugging into the phone with the case on, the Samsung cord is fine. Anyways this is a clear with grey trim model on a white N3

Thanks for the review. Can you please describe the materials used and the texture and finish on the various surfaces of the case? Which parts are matte and which if any are glossy?
The most of the back is matte polycarbonate with just a little area of gloss just before it touches the gray TPU material. The gray TPU material is matte except for a small portion of the lip that protects the screen.

Looks like seller contacted me on Amazon and is sending me a new model with the mic cutout. I will update again once I receive it.
Could you please tell me how tight the sides are around the bezel of the case. Is it flimsy like other tpu cases?

I'm using a Caseology case now. The bezel on the supcase is fairly stiff I'm not sure as to what degree compared to other cases. The bezel on the supcase feels stiffer than the one on my Caseology case. The one thing I didn't like was the frosted back was a bit slippery. Not horrible, but not as grippy as the one im using now.

Not flimsy at all, theyre snug and firm. I got one of these myself, fortunately mine did come with all the cutouts. After having it for about a month and half now though, the gray has started to pick up some reddish color off of something. The one major and I mean major cause it bugs the crap out of me, is that the center ridges that stick out on the back stick out more then the ends. This causes the phone to wobble when you press the home button or text while its on a table. I've fixed it with hot glue, but aesthetically it's not as pleasing.

Loving my Spigen Bounce Case and Tempered Glass Screen Protector

Well I have always liked Spigen products. So i ordered the bounce case and a tempered glass....also I had an aluminium home button from my note 2 still.
The install went perfect on the tempered glass (steamy bathroom to get all the dust out the air). I really go nuts when there is dust under the screen so I took my time and installed it perfect.
The bounce case is nice and has a good matte feel.
Here are pictures, would highly reommend buying these.

I was going to get the tr, but the bounce case has a lip to it on the edges spo you wont have to worry about it chipping if you get the glass.t
Also if you order a bounce case the glass.t gets a dicount as combo for buying both.

Also recommend buying the aluminum home button for the note 2...fits the note 3 perfect also so your home button doesnt feel so recessed from the the little extra thickness of the tempered glass. Also adds a more finished look to your phone.

Would you recommend the bounce over the neo hybrid?? Im looking to order one today but still not made up the mind yet ..the slim fit/neo hybrid and now the bounce... The slim armor is out of the equation,, i got a ROCK(TPU+PC) but it was so hugenot using it any more..

my neo hybrid is gold, i like it with my black note 3, but it adds quite some width to a already large phone in note 3, another thing is the button feel, bounce really enhances the power and volume buttons while on neo hybrid the addon plastic chrome buttons feel loose, neo hybrid for gs4 isnt like that somehow
and more importantly bounce is less than half price of neo hybrid
imo, the only thing neo hybrid wins is looks, it is beautiful, but bounce doesnt look ugly though

which one is more stiff and fits more snugly? the bounce or the neo hybrid? i already have the neo hybrid but kinda disappointed because of the loose top right corner, if you know what i'm talking about.

The screen does not have any scratches after a month of use.
Did you get the GLAS.tR or GLAS.t ?
Been using the bounce case since day two. What tempered glass protector should I get? This seems to be the standard layout for this phone
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
If you getting the bounce case get the glass.t, but if your not gettign a case use the glass.tr. The rounded edges is only for a case that doesnt have a lip on it.
I've had the bounce and the glas T combo for about 3 weeks. maybe more. I concur with the side button comments. Bounce is improved over the naked phone. The bounce has just enough front lip to fold over or butt against the glas t. I've bought some other cases but this combo really is a great match. Sum is greater than the parts kind of thing. I went with the grey and use the included orange rubber home button. very nice. It could be a little more grippy like a silicone case but the sharp beveled edges do a lot of good. and headphone jack housing interference could be an issue and I also tried a $5 plastic clamshell with silicone wrap and two way kick stand that was very good. If you are the rough and tumble sort this is nice....
http://www.ebay.com/itm/BLUE-GREY-B...t=US_Cell_Phone_PDA_Cases&hash=item565d5446d6
...the kickstand is cheap however and will break off eventually, The above "goof" case is a very valid style case if needed, what really got me was the fit. Like they had been using the N3 for a year before release. Next vacation I'll use it but for the commute sit at desk routine. bounce and glas t wins.

What case are you running?

I currently am running the Supcase Unicorn Beetle and absolutely love this case. I switched over from the Ballistic a little over a month ago and am I impressed. A $20 case that fully protects your phone and isn't bulky. I have tiled floors and I have dropped my phone numerous times and phone is still fully operational with 0 damage..
Spigen ultra hybrid clear to showcase the dbrand skin. The Supcase is nice I just wish it came in an ultra clear.
Spigen neo hybrid had the nilken bumper but I'm a cook and its easier to clean a case then a phone I like it got it on the 80% off sale so it was like 6 bucks best buttons of any case feels just like the stock ones

Incipio dualpro, spigen crystal screen protector, and a maxpedition tc-II pouch just because this thing is too large for me to pocket carry. I've dropped it twice the first time it broke the Verizon crystal screen protector so I swapped to spigen, and haven't had any issues.
Started with the Unicorn Beetle Sup case good case made the phone huge though, moved on to the Nillkin Willtoo bumper case and really liked it. Just got the i-Blason case ive had it for a couple days and it is a decent case so far.

Spigen ultra hybrid clear. Had a Seidio but it was too slippery. Kept the holster though. works well with the Spigen.
i am using the obliq Flex Pro Series and it's supeb, the only problem is that you can recognize which button you are pressing.
Just got my Nexus yesterday (so we're hardly talking long term use here) but I have the Ringke Fusion Crystal and am happy.
I didn't want to end up with a massive case so I'm still on the lookout for something a little more protective.

Ringke MAX, great case, full coverage and not bulky
Like the OP, I have the SUPCASE Unicorn Beetle case. It does make the phone a little bulky, but as my 3 year old daughter often plays with my phone in her hospital bed I like having the amount of protection it offers.
The downside is I already have a screen protector on the phone, so the built in screen protector interacts with the one that I installed and is creating air bubbles which my daughter continues to think are dirty spots. Would remove the other screen protector, but every now and again I will pull the phone out of the case when I don't need the protection.
As a side note, I have found that during charging with the turbo charger, the phone does run a few degrees Celsius warmer, and if I leave an intensive application (read as Taichi Panda, or another 3D game) then the phone is almost too hot to pick up; usually have to remove the case to cool the phone down efficiently.
Orzly FlexiSlim Smoke Black
I had diztronic but found I really needed the dimple cut out. Got the tudia tpu case, works great.
Spigen neo hybrid gun metal. Best case. I get it on all my devices. With tempered glass.

I'm still using the Skrillix live case with glass screen protector. I normally change cases and wallpapers often but I like the ever changing wallpaper on this thing. Protection wise though it just looks nice until I probably drop it.

Looking For A Very Slim Case With Protection

I am currently using the "Spigen Neo Hybrid Case" and i want a 2nd case that's more slim.
what i have in mind is the "Spigen Thin Fit Case", but iam not sure are there other good alternatives out there.
any suggestion guys/girls ?
Diztronic. My go to for all new phones. S7 link here: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-Diztronic-Flexible-Slim-Fit/dp/B01BDWIOJW/
Got a cheap BodyGlove case at WalMart. Too slippery for me but by far the thinnest I've found for it
I`ve bought a real carboncase. It`s the thinnest you can find.
Checkout the Shumuri https://shumuri.com/collections/sam...lim-for-samsung-galaxy-s7?variant=24018989062

I'm currently using the Spigen thin fit case and I love it, looks awesome as its not thick like most cases.
this is my option :
- SPIGEN Rugged Armor Samsung Galaxy S7 – BLACK
- RINGKE Slim SAMSUNG Galaxy S7
- SHUMURI Slim 0.35mm Samsung Galaxy S7
- VERUS Single Fit Samsung Galaxy S7
I've literally tried almost every big name brand at this point. And I love the Ringke SLIM Case
I have the Spigen Slim Fit and was happy with it until I found the Nillkin frosted.
http://www.nillkin-case.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=4469
I now have both and only ever use the Nillkin. They're very similar but the Nillkin is very slightly thinner whilst offering great protection and also has slightly less plastic covering the phone, which I like. It also has better grip as the back is textured (nurled) and Spigen is mat-ish finish. The coating on the Spigen has also started to chip/wear after only a short time, which is disappointing. The Nillkin doesn't have any coating as it's through-coloured and the texturing is moulded in so no wear issues at all. The final decider was that the Nillkin obscures less of the screen (by about 1mm each side) than the Spigen and the lip at the front is also lower, making swiping in from either side easier. The Nillkin also works perfectly with the Ultimate Shield Tempered Glass protector as there's around 1/2mm clearance between the protector and edge of case.
One last thing is that the plastic it's made from isn't totally rigid but it is hard-ish. It does have some elasticity, which can only be a good thing. You can twist the case very slightly with gentle force and this flexibility must surely give greater bump protection than the rigid plastic cases which just shatter in impact. It also allows wireless charging as well without any issue.
The Nillkin is the best case I've ever had and perfect balance of protection, coverage and grip and for the money its' unbeatable. I'll be buying these from now on for all my phones.

For me that's a positive. I wanted a minimal case but which will still give good protection. If you want ultra protection you need a rugged case. The likelihood of dropping the phone cleanly on one of the ends (perpendicular impact) is almost zero. With this case the back and corners are (almost) fully covered and AFAIAC that's enough. The Spigen Ultra Slim that you said you liked in the OP gives the same level of protection to the ends but possibly 1-2mm more corner protection but they're still not fully covered. TBH I don't see why either company couldn't cover the ends and corners fully (with a small slit on the corners to allow for fitting), would seem logical.
You can try Ringke's Ultra Thin case. It covers all sides of the phone. Very lightweight and and thin.

Not sure if this classifies as "slim" for most people, but I came from an LG G3 with the Zerolemon battery so anything is slim. Wireless charging, Samsung pay, all work with this case.
I chose a little more "bump" for my buck with the Symmetry case, but I've since dropped it several times and had no adverse effects.
I have Ringke Air Smoke and it's very cool for me!

Fits perfectly and very slim

Any cases like the Spigen Thin Fit?

I just got my s8 around 3 weeks ago and I'm currently using the thin fit case from spigen in black colour and I'm loving the grippy surface. however after around 2 weeks the rubber started peeling off in flakes and it's really annoying as i keep getting the flakes on my hand and in my pocket. Is this just my case or does this happen to all of the thin fit cases out there. and are there any other cases that feel almost exactly the same as this case? (slimness and the cutouts at the volume rocker and the power button)
here's how mine looks currently

hey thanks for suggesting, however, i really prefer the cutouts for the buttons as i like to feel the buttons click when i press them and that case does not have cutouts. thanks for replying tho!
Wow that picture is crazy. I've had the thin fit for many phones, never had that happen. There's only one logical explanation.
http://i2.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/facebook/000/158/326/9148130.jpg
Either that, or you literally sweat battery acid from your palms. Amazing.
That's just being careless. Amazing how you can ruin a case in 3 weeks. It's full of scratches and holes.
RINGKE Slim. I got it when I had the S8+. I like this version better as it covers all four sides of the phone. Unfortunately I order for s8+ and got regular s8 case instead. Returned case for refund, eventually got rid of s8+ too. (I can never stick with one device for too long)
a little pricey but it goes on sale sometimes. meets a lot of your requirements. not sure how sticky the case is compared to the thin fit. my thin fit is almost too sticky

The holes are for the power, volume, and Bixby buttons, and for the camera/fingerprint scanner module.
I have one that is very similar to Spigen Thin Fit.
Actually, is even better on the texture (doesn't catch dirt) and even thinner.
I did had the same problems as you on the Spigen, the coating started to peel off on less than a month of use.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071RNV4L3/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I am using the Spigen Thin fit and my finish on the phone is still very good. I used the same case on the 5x without having that happen. Had to be something you cleaned it with or just defective. However i ordered a carbon fiber case similar to it, real carbon fiber from Amazon. Can't wait.
Obviously way more expensive but based on the reviews i say worth it.
Try Galaxy S8 Case, VANSIN 3 In 1 Ultra Thin $9.99 /w 4.5 stars on 62 reviews. Also rubberized matte like Spigen Thin Fit.
I have the same problem. Not to the same extend, but it's certainly fading.
For now I live with it. Doesn't look to nice but still does it's job. And no, it's neither being careless nor acidic sweat. My phone sits in a desk all day or is in my pocket alone. From my guitar experience I can tell you for sure I don't have sweat that's any kind of wearing on materials. The quality of this cases finish is just sub par...

Mine started to peel like this, after once I've held it in my hand, while there were some sunscreen on my hand.

hey thanks for suggesting, however, i really prefer the cutouts for the buttons as i like to feel the buttons click when i press them and that case does not have cutouts. thanks for replying tho!

If you still haven't found a case, this is the one I'm using on my S8+, it's also screen protector friendly
Anccer Galaxy S8+ case
That's the case I'm using. Don't mind the price, it's actually a nice case. You also really feel the buttons click.

My Spigen Slim Fit is doing the exact same thing after 2 months. I no longer see the slim fit on Spigen's site anymore, mby they know something is wrong with those cases. I have always used Spigen, but this is a total let down. That carbon fiber case looks great!

Curious how that gold plating holds up after use, or a small drop. If you purchased it can you give feedback or show actual pics of the case?
Thanks for recommendations
wish i saw this thread before i ordered the exact same case as the OP
mine's only a week old so far, so obviously no problems. but i'm familiar with this coating and i know it won't last (lots of computer mouse use this kind of coating)
