How to remove Nova launcher from SlimBean 4.3.1. rom? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello world
So how do i remove Nova Launcher from SlimBean ROM? I tried removing it through SlimCenter but after i exit and come back to slim center Nova is still there. I installed Apex launcher and it is now set to default launcher. Through slim file manager i got to system\app and tried to remove nova from there but it just says Delete Failed.
Any ideas? Thanks!

Ensure that root access is enabled on your Slimbean rom.
This is quoted from slimroms.net:
Root access works in another way in 4.3 then it was before. It is disabled by default. If you want to have root access go into your Superuser application or in Settings->Developer options and enable it. Please note as well that currently some third party kernels are around which may break root.

Once superuser is enabled, try via the Slimsizer again.
If it still fails:
Use a root explorer app from the play store. Any of them will do. Ensure superuser permission is granted, and remove from system\app.

Thanks a million man. Also, in case anyone else needs this, use a cleaning app after erasing Nova(or anything else), and reboot your phone. Remember to have a second launcher installed prior removing Nova.

I prefer disabling (aka freezing) default keyboards and launchers versus uninstalling. If you ever get in a situation with your alternate app you have a fallback you may potentially be able to reenable

Is there a way to use a stock jellybean homescreen, not a launcher?

You misunderstand. Anything you see from the home screen is the launcher. Without one installed it is just a black screen that you can't do anything with.
If you want that then find the JB launcher somewhere around.

Where did this accuweather widget come from?

So I'm playing around with custom ROMs when the official ICS update comes out. I load it and decide I want to re-root and move back to a custom ROM.
I loaded FJMOD's ROM and then updated to his build 3.
Somewhere along the way, this accuweather widget comes up on my lock screen. It never updates so I want to get rid of it.
Now I'm showing my newbiness - how? There's no option to uninstall in applications. I can see 2 icons listed in System -> Applications - Accuweather Weather Daemon and AccuWeather.com. I can't uninstall either.
I'm guessing this is easy, but I can't find it. Can someone point me to a reference to uninstall "uninstallable" applications?
BTW - I tried to disable the apps, and that worked. But I still can't uninstall.
Thanks
Download tb free and un install. It'll be a system app but you can remove it

[Q] Unhide apps hidden with Hide It Pro

-.-
So....I just noticed that 'Hide It Pro" doesn't work on ICS, meaning it only hides the apps.....oh boy and does it hide them.....but you can't unhide/run them anymore.
Any resolution to this problem?!
How do I get those apps back, because I made one fatal mistake, and that was hiding my Super SU app and now if an apps needs root, it can't get it because the Super SU app is nowhere to be found....
I've tried :
- uninstalling hide it pro
- intalling launcher pro and look for the apps in the hidden option
EDIT: Unhide the apps without reflashing of course....
I have no problem with unhiding them, but maybe it doesn't work because you need root access and since you've hidden SU that feature is gone Did you try to delete the apps from Play Store and install them again?

And if you first delete the data of the app before uninstalling Hide It Pro..? (Just an idea, but maybe the apps will be deleted to then... On your own risk)
Otherwise I wouldn't know. Maybe email the developer.

I had to go into CWM and wipe data/factory reset and that brought back the root
I thought I had to re-flash....phew.

[Q] Slim bean 4.2.2 - unroot

Hi,
I really like the slim bean rom.
However, I would like to unroot my phone.
Can I unroot my phone and still keep slim bean?
If yes, how?
Thanks for your help!
in the superuser app settings
Thanks Glebun!
However, it is already set to disabled.
For example my Good for Enterprise app still fails the compliance check.
So I would like to know if I can completely unroot my phone while still keeping Slim Bean.
what superuser app are you using? SuperSU allows for a full unroot
Its built into settings

Exactly.
I can't find a superuser.apk on my phone.
It's not visible in as an app anywhere.
There is no option to uninstall if I open superuser via the settigns - superuser menu..
I've searched the internet to no end and I'm getting more and more confused.
Hope you can help.

I did install supersu, but again installing it and then uninstalling it still leaves me with the "# Superuser" setting in the settings menu and it's still rooted.
By the way: I just installed another superuser app (I think it is from the CM mod) and I get a notice saying "Normal, the 'su' file needs to be edited. Choose an installation method. 'Via recovery' is recommended for HTC-devices.
So no succes there.
installing and the uninstalling it will have no effect. read my post - supersu has a setting for a full unroot, use it

root consists of 2 elements
1) The app (or settings) which is a gateway to root if you like, but not actually root itself
2) The SU binary /system/bin/su. This is what actually gives root. The above just allows or denies root access. Using one of the superuser apps, you should be able to unroot, removing this. The settings menu will always remain but means nothing.
You may just be able to use a file manager with root permissions to delete the binary.
that is what I meant

Guys: you're the best!
Turns out that I had to reboot (duh) before the change took effect.
Now I have slimbean 4.2.2 unrooted and can make use of Good for Enterprise.
Thanks a bunch!
A small summary:
1. Install SuperSU.
2. Use the "Full unroot" function of SuperSU.
3. Reboot

Eragon v 1.5 flashed, problem with system Nova Launcher and ebay.

Hi there. Firstly thanks for all the work, great ROM.
I’ve just flashed the rom from stock 20160419 on my P9000.
Did a fullwipe as per the instructions. First app I Installed was ebay and it failed, tried it several times. I then installed the rest of my apps & updated SuperSU from Google Play, setup the rest of my phone, uninstalled ebay, restarted phone, reinstalled ebay and it works fine.
The only thing apart from the screen lock image that can’t be changed, is that I want to uninstall the system Nova, reinstall Nova premium version that I have and its settings. But no easy way of doing this. Have installed a second launcher, but cannot find any nova related folders in system/app/ I have located in system/priv-app/ com.teslacoilsw.launcher-1 folder, but unable to delete/uninstall anything with mixplorer.
Any ideas welcome. Thanks in advance.
Hi,
skeleton1911 is working on the eBay problem (I have it too).
For Nova: Just install premium and it should unlock the premium features (Works for me)
And for the lockscreen image look hear

Yes my ebay is working, it worked in the end.
Doesn’t allow me to install nova Premium from APK file, goes through the motions and then gives me an X and says app not installed, have tried with mixplorer and ES file explorer.
As to lockscreen, im not familiar with gravitybox, don’t know if I have to download it from google play, if so, which one? or if it’s already included with Eragon v 1.5 cannot find it.
Thanks for the help
Nova: I installed nova premium via the play store, so I don't know way installing the apk manually is not working.
Gravity Box: 1: you have to install the xposed framework via the Eragon updater
2 Then install Gravity Box via Xposed Installer
I recommend you watching a video about Xposed on YouTube .

Hi. Thanks for your help, have downloaded xposed framework, installed installer and gravity box, changed screenlock picture. But know ebay app doest work, now it fails.
Also does someone know how to uninstall the system version of Nova launcher? I want to install a prime version I have manually from APK file.
I have tried installing prime version over the top with mixplorer and ES file explorer but after a while I get an X and says app not installed.
Thanks in advance.
No problem The eBay thing is a known issue and the developer is working on it.

install another launcher first and select it.
Then go to root system/priv-app and delete the nova folder+ reboot

Works for me fine. To get it to work initially all I had to do was disable ad-aware ... reboot login into ebay then reactive the ad-aware and all was fine.

[APP][NO ROOT] Fire TV system apps hacked to get system permissions

ADB disable or uninstall fails for system apps in new builds.
install this apk to block installing new update from amazon. it will still download the ota bin file for you to experiment, but the ota install will fail as the code to install bin is removed.
For anyone interested to try other exploits
https://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/general/fire-os-5-2-6-3-bin-extract-fire-stick-t3780621
I'm a little confused and was hoping you could clarify. Which update does this block? And are you saying the newest update has hidden or disabled developer features / ADB option?
The uninstall / disable parameter doesn't work on newest fireTV devices, which means you cannot prevent newer fireTV devices from automatically updating
This over-writes the existing softwareOTA.apk, instead of uninstalling/disabling.
The modifications present in this modded version disable the firmware update functionality from the original softwareOTA.apk

@ranjeet choudhary, can we get an equivalent dummy apk to disable com.amazon.tv.launcher?
I tried to do it myself with the janus exploit, but it doesn't work on my windows device. Looks like I will have to install Linux/Mac for further testing.
I am trying to modify com/amazon/tv/launcher/AppKeyService.smali

You likely don't want to do that until you have full root. The Amazon Settings app is built into the launcher on FireTV Stick Gen 2 devices. Killing the launcher will will any access to settings unless you want to edit everything via adb .

The important settings can be accessed via confireator as they are separate from the launcher.
Really all you need is WiFi, Bluetooth, and Adb.
App uninstall can be triggered from the new launcher.
As you say, adb is a backup plan for anyone that messes up too bad.

I'll have to check out confireator.
I've been forced to manually add permissions via adb for Accessibility Service and certain permissions Amazon doesn't want you using (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW for overlays, for example) in order to even use CetusPlay on the device.
If confireator can give me a GUI for that, I'm SOLD.

If you have a gutted amazon launcher, mind sharing?
I don’t care if you only got rid of home button or if you prevented it from executing its startup process so it fails to launch entirely, it has to go.

Try Launcher Hijack V3. It will replace your launcher without needing to actually replace it.

with the janus exploit we can now actually replace it without needing to get rid of it.
I just got a linux distro up and running so I can try executing the script. Windows is a nightmare.
