Im posting here because, after updating through Kies on a mac, other than sometimes slowish ui/loadings, i'm experiencing a shutdown whenever my phone goes to lock mode. Its not frequent. Sometimes i lock it, and after some minutes when i click pwer to bring up the lockscreen, nothing happens, and i have to hold the power (for a long time) to turn it back on.
Some info:
Previous version: gb 2.3.6 rooted
Baseband: XXLPS
first update was throuh wifi. Failed. Sencond by mac. Success.
If you guys could help me find a fix, or need more info, ill be very gratefull/happy to provide.
Thanks in advance

You could do a factory reset, that helps many times. Type *2767*3855# in the dial pad. Backup important files first.
Thanks. Will try that.

After updating my GT-I9100 from Gingerbread to the official ICS 4.0.3 ROM I experienced random shutdowns as aforementioned. I also had the screen freeze and become unresponsive. Screen unresponsiveness only occurred the first two days, random shutdowns occurred for about a week. After a slew of additional app update notifications and subsequent updating, I no longer have the shutdown problem either. I originally upgraded through Kies on 4/20/2012 and by around 4/27/2012 I no longer have any issues. Btw, I'm on ATT in the U.S. and my phone is not rooted.
I did a factory reset and i noticed some things:
Self shutdown occurred only once.
The phone touch is considerably faster than gb.
The screen visuals are more vivid (i think thats because of my current wallpapers)
The apps load times are also faster, but the camera takes some time to load.
Tl;dr
I dont regret the hard reset but the shutdown happened once only after that.

Bad news... Shutdown twice this morning, after going into lock mode(click power button)
One thing i noticed is that he takes toooo muuucchhhh to boot when holding the power button when this hapens, so i have a theory that he actually doesnt shuts down, rather it jus wont turn on the screen. Im going to try to replicate it and send some kind of warning to one of my apps, or mail myself.

Indeed, it is not shutting down, but not waking the screen. This is known as the "sleep of death" (SoD) and has been discussed in dozens of threads already.
Usually caused by undervolting with values that are too low, but also occurs on some peoples phones when they are completely stock.
Changing kernel can sometimes help, or if you already have a custom kernel loaded, changing your voltage settings to be a bit higher on the 800mhz step.

Hi,
I can see that there are similar threads out here. But I can`t find ONE with a good answer about what can be wrong, and specialy how to solve the problem.
Like the other ones who have this problem I have a brand new Galaxy S3 who was not rooted. Stock ROM (Now I tried too root it, but still have the same problem.)
So, the problem is that when I press the power button to make the phone go to standby mode, it won`t turn back on from standby to normal mode again when I press HOME button or power button. What I have to do is hold in the power button until it has been restarted.
It looks like the phone uses alot of battery also.
The same problem can accure when I am talking in the phone. When I am about to hang up, the screen is completely black and I cant press anything, only the powerbutton to make a "hardreset".
Every problem can be solved, but many of them take a little bit more time to find a solution for.
So, can anyone please help me with this problem? It is driving me nuts!
(I have tried to switch of the wifi btw )
As previous thread, change the kernel. Rooting only not solve this problem..

I have now tried to put in a new kernel.
The Kernel is :
3.0.15-franco.Kernel
[email protected] #11
Build Nr.
Omega v9.0 - XXBLG1
I still have the same problem, when I have allot of battery ( 90-100 % ) there is no problem. But as soon as the battery reach 50 % or below, the phone wont wake up from standby mode.
What can I do? I hope that someone have a good answer and a solution for me and for everybody else who may have this problem.
Maybe to high clockspeed or undervolted to much? Could be a freeze. Or maybe a crashed system app.

Okey,
Since I am quite new at this with rooting and stuff, how can I fix my problem?
I am open for a total wipe of my phone if that can help.
But if it is so easy to set down the clockspeed or fix the undervolt I hope someone have a problem fix
If it is a system app the total wipe would fix it?

Modem (baseband version) is I9300XLF3..
After I flash franco kernel the phone restarted it self and i tought that everything was done. I have not done anything else with the phone after that regarding flash..
Is there anything I can try to do in the franco kernel update app?
I am a bit noob, so I am not following what you mean by scripts in init.d I tried to find it on the phone, but I am probably thinking wrong hehe
my comment is missing.
Better you ask in your kernel thread since you flash custom kernel.

I have 2 phones here.. One is mine and one is my friends phone. We have exactly the same kernel and the same rom.
Also the same modem.
Do you think to change the modem would help? I think it`s quite strange if we have exactly the same.
Maybe it would help to put in the ROM to wipe the phone? So the stock ROM would be gone.
I am going to find out this problem one way or another
Try to do a factory reset...it workd fr me

I have now taken a factory reset. + that I have put in the OMEGA Rom again and the Franco kernel. All this after I have tested the phone to see if it was working.
But it seems like I have the same problem. But not that often. Maybe when I get batterylevel under 30 %.

I still have the same problem. I can not predict when the phone is going into freeze. Hope someone can find out what can causing the problem.
I have tried to observe how the phone is acting the couple of days.
It uses alot of battery. I take out the charger at 0800 at the morning.. When the clock is 1700 i have 20% battery.. This is after several restarts during the day..
It seems like if I put the phone in my pocket it freezes. Could be a coincidence.
The phone won't take charging when it has gone into "freezemode"..
This might help

I had a similar issue with the phone and what i do to make it go away is , after every restart , or battery pull , u let it sit for a second to load up everything then u open up u'r dallier and dial *#0011# this will take u to the service menu , once there u press the"menu" button on the phone and chose "WiFi" .. u should have a button there that says "On" with a blue line underneath , click on it then exit the menu and enjoy
as i understand this has something to do with the " power saving mode" for wifi , the problem for me started after i uploaded a huge amount of data to dropbox ... (40~ GB of photos and Videos) so i might of ****ed up the wifi chip or something
I found this to work after reading a few threads on the forum , it's not a permanent fix but it dose the job for me
I wold like to thank whomever came up with this , but i can't remember who it was
Hi guys! I've a question u may answer, my phone doesn't charge when is turned of, it automatically restart itself. Do anyone knows if there is a tweak or a script to avoid the problem?? I've an xperia mini st15i, running the AOSP MINISANDWICH v.4 by krsh with mesa 3.2 kernel. I've tried to change lots of kernel but it doesn't seems to be a problem referred to the kernel!

The rom itself may not contain a offline charging, so thats why it amy not charge when your phone is off

Charging when the CPU is completely inactive is good. It charges faster too.when u charge the normal way, CPU wont be inactive as there will be background processes.
Btw where is the CITY India?

i heard that mesa have offline charging problem, but mesa 3.2 maybe had been fixed, maybe your rom

While charging offline you will not receive any calls, messages or any notifications nor you could use it. Intentionally charging offline is not a good option according to me.

Hey,
It's my first time posting a problem cause I used to find my answers in others topics, thanks to your efforts. But sadly I didn't find a solution for this problem.
I have a galaxy s2 GT-I9100, It was working greatly, but for the last 3 weeks, once I turne the wifi on, the phone slows down immediatly. And when I turn the wifi off again, it goes back to its normal stat.
I tried at first a factory reset .. It didn't work.
I flashed the ROM with an official JB .. It seems working for a few days, but now the problem is back again.
To give you more details : when I turn the wifi on, the menu start "lugging", and when I use the virtual keyboard, when I click on a character, it stay clicked for a long time, and if I want for example to delete a letter, the backspace button stay in hold, until it delets many lines of the text.
And many other things !
I wish that you can help me fix that.
Thanks for your efforts.

Probably apps waking up and syncing when they're told by Android that there's a network connection.

I don't think so .. cause all the apps I have are regular apps : Viber, Skype, etc.
It's NOT a hw (hardware) problem.
Any app that accesses the internet WILL attempt to sync when a connection is available.....even those that don't normally use it could.....just to check for updates....
Take the sync advice...it's more possible....
Temporarily disable sync before enabling wi fi and see if you notice any lag then....I bet it will be minimal.
My wife says I'm a phone geek....She's probably right

Hi everyone
Last night, when i plugged my usb charger to my S3 since it was drained, my phone suddenly turns on without hitting the power button,
I tried turning it off, then plugged again, the Grey battery icon with progress showed but then i was hoping to see the battery icon with green color (the usual icon when it is charging) instead it turned on.
I tried, installing stock rom, Official one, and everything is ok, phone doesnt turn on
Tried clearing cache and dalvik, same turning on happened
Tried installing a fresh ROM, still it turned on after plugged in
Can you help me guys... It doesnt affect my phone, but its quite annoying.
Thanks guys

Simple, expand notification bar, then switch to rapid settings screen, here you find offline/airplane mode(depends on translation), the one with the airplane icon, after you enabled this all networks(cell net. Wifi bt ecc...) will be shut down, you can re enable wifi if u want to surf web , i suggest you to reboot the phone sometime(one every 1 or 2 days).

That is not true. I have never experienced such an issue on any rom I have flashed, I also did a quick search here on xda and cannot find anyone else with this problem.
@cgren
Does this only happen on one specific rom?
Since it does not happen in stock it might be an option in the rom/kernel you have chosen but since you have given no information I cannot check for you.
