First Of all I would like to thank anyone who helps me in advance.
Just received my new galaxy s2 (around 30 minutes ago). Allready I want to root the device. Although i'm looking for a point in the right direction on the following.
a)the easiest guide to rooting
b)I'm after a stock (most up to date rom) if possible as my is currently filled with bloat ware (thanks to three UK). Coming from a Nexus s which was my first android phone I'm not used to this neither do I like it. So is the a way to flash a stock rom so the phone is like it would be if I brought it sim free and unlocked.
Currently not looking at any other gains, for the time being at least although im sure the flashing roms bug will catch me.
Old phone was a Nexus s as previously stated which was rooted with CWM installed.
Also I can't believe how busy these forums are! Makes the Nexus scene look dead!

Rooting means voiding warranty.
Wouldn't you want to try out the phone and stress test it a little under a valid warranty before you start messing with it?
I was under the impression I could just unroot the device?
Also that stock rom I was linked to will that get rid of the bloat ware?

You can just unroot it, yes. Unfortunately, a lot of the "bloatware" is Samsung, not your carrier, so you're stuck with it (unless you read up on what you can safely get rid of). If you're looking at flashing an up-to-date firmware anyway, why not consider an AOSP ROM. It's the closest thing you'll get to a Nexus build and they're about as bare-bones as you can get!

There are others, but I can only speak about that one personally because that's the only AOSP one I used before I went MIUI.

Yes you can unroot. But every time you flash an unofficial kernel(to root), you increase the custom binary counter. Samsung will know that you have been rooted before even if you reinstall the firmware and kernel. USB Jig's reset the counter, but don't upgrade to the latest firmware(KI3) that hasn't been modified to include the old bootloader. The new firmware fixes the USB Jig counter reset.

Trust me it's is the best rooting guide for noobs. When I rooted my device that was the only guide I could trust, because it was a step by step guide. Read it carefully, if you got any problems you can pm me and I'll help you. If you post in the thread you'll get help also but you have to reach 10 post to post in that thread.

Thanks for the link to the video, rooting looks really easy although I'm abit sceptical about rooting at the moment due to them knowing if you have previously rooted I thought they wouldn't be able to tell.
Also things look very complicated when compared to the nexus s the galaxy s2 seems to have hundreds of different codes, firmware versions ect.
All I'm after at the moment is just get rid of the Three branding and bloat ware.
A lot more reading ahead I think!
Been doing a little reading and I think the branding is the CSC? Can I just flash the XEU file for 2.3.4 (my current version) to get rid of three's branding? If so would this void my warranty?

Samsung stock roms do not void Samsung warranty though they may or may not void Threes warranty .
Rooting or custom roms void warranty .

I'm not to fussed about rooting at them moment I just want to change my csc and upgrade to 2.3.5 which I believe is the latest version. Doing this won't void my Samsung warranty? If so I'm going to have a go.
Also will flashing wipe any data?

Can someone please explain Knox in simple terms to me because the more I read the more I'm confused. I've read so many post on it and its just not sinking in. I had an s4 with KitKat update, it had knox icon under apps but when I pressed it it asked if I want to install it which I never did. On the boot up download mode the Knox counter was present.
Because the phone has been such a bad one me the phone company has sent me a new one. This has jellybean on it as it is new and no Knox icon displayed to install it. Also has Knox counter on startup though.
Phone won't update now because Samsung's own software update has yet again updated jellybean and left the phone thinking I have custom software, did same to my other phone and a tablet. However this is their problem. Something wrong with their upgrades.
But getting back, what I dont get is will an official flash of KitKat trigger the Knox counter? What about custom ROM installed? Is my firmware already locked and can't do any office updates let alone root? I don't think my galaxy tab 3 has knox
Any simple help much appreciated.
I got my Mega 6.3" (SGH-I527M) and I have a few questions:
I don't want to lose "any" functionality or performance that the stock Android 4.2.2 or 4.4.2 out of box provides me with. Even useful features of TouchWiz like multi-windows and etc. are good and I want to keep them. After all, I think this device will not receive any more love and update neither from Samsung nor XDAdevs, right?
I just need to have root access. Now with this mentioned, is there any way of rooting it without tripping Knox? I'm asking this because I'll like to be able to go back to stock ROM if I want to.
Saying this, what ROM is your favorite one, guys or gals?

I just bought the T-mobile Galaxy S5 and it came with Android 5.0. and baseband G900TUVU1DOB1. The main reason I want to root is due to the battery drain issues with Lollipop. I heard Twi5ted lollipop ROM is pretty good so wanted to give that one a chance!
1. Rooting - I'm assuming I need to use ODIN and flash back to Kit Kat first? After that, I can use TowelRoot to obtain root, get super user, and flash CWM? My only question with this process if it trips the Knox counter? Do you guys really care if you trip the counter or not? The reason I care is because I want to use Samsung Pay if it ever comes to the S5 and I heard that's not possible if the knox counter is tripped.
2. Flashing Custom ROMs - I'm assuming I can just flash Twi5ted's custom rom via CWM without any issues. However, I saw there was something called MultiSystem. Do you guys use it? Is it worth going that route instead? It seems like you can use it to flash different ROMS at the same time. Do the ROMs run slower because it's not on the internal storage device?

Well, I wouldn't go with MultiSystem. I've been flashing roms and rooting phones for a few years now and MultiSystem looks like something a developer might use to test a rom while having a working rom. As far as the Knox counter being tripped. Of course I tripped mine about a month after I got my S5. Google Wallet works fine. Yeah, Samsung Pay probably won't work on a rooted phone.

I have OzcanROM on my galaxy alpha, rooted with custom recovery ofc. Yet recently I had problem with my fingerprint sensor (I haven`t managed to fix it though) and my phone is in theory still under warranty so I`d like to send it samsung to repair it for me, since this problem is common throughout Alpha users community. My question is. Is it enough to simply flash stock rom though odin? Will they discover that I`ve rooted my phone etc. - will I loose warranty? Or do I need to override KNOX or something like that ? Kind of lost in it..

Once you rooted your Alpha and flashed a custom rom the Knox counter will be triggered and stays at 0x1
So in theory Samsung will be able to see whether you were rooted or not
Overriding Knox on the Alpha is impossible.
Maybe they won't check it... but I wouldn't risk it.
Where did you buy your Alpha ? Because often when you bought it at a mobile provider they have to exchange your phone when they did not find anything (and they are mostly very sloppy by checking your phone)
