Titanium Backup Restore Apps Crash after 4.3 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

So yesterday I updated to 4.3 and now when using Titanium backup it restores the app but when launching the app It force closes and in the notification bar it says "Security Notice An attempt to access a secure area on your phone without autorization has been blocked. Make sure your phone is protected by updating the security policy to the latest version from samsung." Then has a button for Update policy or cancel and updating the policy doesnt fix it.
So now that you have the story let me tell you exactly what I did to update it.
I followed this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2504408
Then when I went to do the OTA it failed and I was thinking it was because of safestrap and that i still had a rom installed on rom slot 1. So I started over and once I installed VRUDMI1 I did a factory wipe of data just so its fresh(i think thats where i went wrong but i dont know). SO then i continued with the instructions in the link above and got 4.3 installed.
Any Idea why i cant restore? Im thinking it has to do with the app permissions because when I install from store and accept the permissions the app works but i cant restore my data.

Anyone?

Same Issue
Yes, anybody? I've had this same issue and worked around it, I just can't keep entering the data in all my apps.
It started when I went from stock on my S4 to Hyperdrive RLS12. The first time I witnessed this, it was annoying, but I figured it was simply because of differences in the stock vs custom (like deodexed vs odexed) making the backups in-compatible. BTW, I am using stock slot. Don't like the whole fake slot thing taking up space, especially when I'm no newbie with installing ROMs.
Well, I went from RLS12->13, same issue. Just did RLS13->14, same issue.
So here's what I just did (and always do). I've installed different ROMs on different phones countless times over the past few years, TB has never failed me in this process until now:
- Did nandroid backup of current ROM
- Took screenshots of important settings, etc.
- Did a TB of my USER apps I want to restore, sync'd to DropBox
- Recovery, full whipe (data/cache/dalvik/etc)
- Install new ROM version
- After first start, FIRST thing I do is re-install TB and license, so I can open it and let it detect my changed device id and restore it.
- After reboot, restore things, including app+data of certain apps from TB
But every time with my S4, I get the same things as ponzi314, if I install App only, it works. If I restore app+data or just data (after installing from market) the app will just go to a blank screen for a few seconds then crash. Even if I clear data at this point, the app won't work. I have to actually un-install/re-install the app.
What gives? It's frustrating given the number of times I've used this process with TB successfully. I'm going back to my nandroid backup for now until I can solve this. Thanks.

Download TB Restore Fixer from the Play Store. It worked for me.

Make sure "unknown app" is checked in settings and download root checker to verify if your phone is rooted.

It works!

[Q] Titanium Backups Batch function not working

I have always used ROM Manager to do everything, but seeing that might not be the best way to do things..I have been having some other problems with restoring, and talked about it on another forum, but can't post the link here yet.
So, my nightlys said it is time to upgrade, so I am going to completely back everything up with TB, and fire it all up to dropbox. All of my system settings are 100% the way I want them... I also clicked the beta migration option in the preferences, hoping that would help me.
Step 1 - Backup all user apps + system Data
Step 2 - Sync to Dropbox
Step 3 - Boot into Clockwork Mod Recovery, and do everything manually, not through ROM Manager
Step 4 - Clear cache and Dalvik
Step 5 - Run zip from SD Card
This time, it seemed like everything went as planned. When I started the phone back up, all the apps were in the same spot, and wallpaper was the same. Although, the first time, when the screen timed out, I couldn't turn it back on. Pulled the battery, and all is working fine now.
Step 6- went into TB and did a batch restore of all apps and data, but only clicked the green items. From reading somewhere else, it is only wise to do the green items, not the red, so that is what I did. Then reboot for all to take effect.
This is where I am confused. None of my data is restored. For example, I use K-9 Mail, and the settings aren't restored by the batch. But, if I go to that app, and hit the restore data, then it restores it fine. So, for me to do all my apps, the batch function isn't working, I have to go through and do 15-20 apps manually.
So, what am I doing wrong here? Why isn't the batch operation working properly for me?
Edit - Something else I noticed that didn't restore properly was any of my ring tones. Not a huge deal, but I thought might be worth mentioning in this dilemma.
So I assume you are on CM7 as you refer to nightlies.
You say that you wipe cache/dalvick cache and install. Then when you reboot all your apps are in the right place?
Then why on earth would you want restore your apps on top of the existing apps with TB? Maybe that is causing the problem. AFAIK upgrading with a nightly shouldn't touch your installed apps.
Did you check the app settings before restoring with TB?
As for the ringtones, I always had that problem when using CM7, just got used to fixing them after installing each nightly.
Hope this helps.
What version of TB are you using? I was having a similar problem doing restores on v3.9.0.1 and was having problems doing batch recovery with my SGS2. The status bar would come up but wouldn't successfully finish. I then upgraded to 4.0.0.0 and everything seems to work.. might give that a try if you're using an older version.

Yes, sorry, I am running CM7, but using the nighties.
As far as the apps, that's why I think I am doing something wrong. Last time was the first time everything was there, every other update, it was like I was starting off with a new phone. No app, no data, nothing. A brand new fresh start.
I will try it again in a few minutes and hope for the best..
Thanks for helping out with this one..

I am currently using the Pro, 4.0.2. It just seems that I have to refresh all the data for each app by themselves, but all at once won't work.
Upgrading my nightly now, so keeping my fingers crossed that it will work.

Star Wars the Old Republic Security Authenticator App

FYI - I just updated my T-Mobile SGS2. After the wipe and update, I'm unable to re-setup the application because I can't get another Serial and Activation Code from the SWTOR website.
Later I reloaded a custom ROM and tried to restore the app with Titanium, but I keep getting an "An unexpected error has occured."
So in short, if you are expecting an update for your phone, or load custom ROMs a lot, DO NOT USE THE ANDROID AUTHENTICATOR APP (until those awesome hackers find out what going on).
Fortunately I was rooted and able to restore a full system backup, to get the app back running correctly. But now I'm forced to run an older version of software on my phone.
Hopefully CS can help with a better solution or App.
I wrote down the key information I entered into the app when I set it up. I don't know if that will work later on though.
The other thing I have going for me... is that both my phone and tablet are configured for it. I did them both at the same time. That way, if one device is lost or stolen, or gets wiped, I can rely on the other.

You can't restore the data files from an different rom, delete the data files in titanium backup and the app should work again (you just have to configure it again)

yes but what ur not getting is that in order to set it up again u have to be able to log into ur account which u cant do without a security key
I havent checked yet, but i will soon. Is there a way to shut off the security key (temporarily, of course) so that we can just shut it off, load a rom, turn it back on and "re-marry" the app? Might not be great for nightly users, but I'd like to try some different roms without losing the ability to play my game.

The only way to detach the security key atm is to phone support and have them remove it. I read somewhere that adding that functionality to the webpage is a high priority.
yeah. I got my ticket back about that. I went ahead and just ordered a standalone key. Not going to take the chance. haha
There must be a way to backup the application. Moving it to an emulator on my pc would be nice, but I couldn't do it...

Successfully Restored Authenticator
I know this post is old, but I've seen several similar posts concerning the same issue, and the resolution was calling Customer Support and having it removed. Anyway, I've restored the app successfully several times today. Last week, I contacted Titanium Track (Titanium Backup Support), and one of the suggestions they gave me led to an answer. "If you leave the app installed and just switch between the ROMs without a wipe, does the same problem happen or not?".
It indeed did continue to function. I then tried a "factory reset" and restoring the app, which led to the dreaded "unexpected error occurred". My next step involved, restoring all system app data/rebooting...and then the authenticator functioned. After a couple of hours, I narrowed down the 2nd app that needs to be restored. Under Titanium Backup it's - [SETTINGS/BLUETOOTH...-> "Settings Storage". By exploring this data using Titanium Backup, I saw one variable that I believe is the cause of the issue. "Android_ID".
Sorry, I can't post the link but this is from "adrynalyne" on Android Forums - "Warning. Do Not Share Nandroid Backups".
Even if your apps aren't there, and no personal information has been entered on a fresh wipe.
If someone asks for a stock Nandroid backup, kindly tell them to get lost
contagous and I learned the hard way. I sent him a completely tweaked and clean nandroid, with none of my personal info or anything like that. He has been using it and it works great.
Until AppBrain fast web installer is used. See, it IDs your device by the Android_ID, which is unique to every phone, or is supposed to be.
Nandroid backups will record this device ID, and clone it onto another device. Well, when contagous installs an app using the web installer, I get it. Without a prompt or nothing.
While I can do the same thing, and it was fun sending him pron apps and sexy men wallpapers, it has a real potential for a security nitemare. I trust contagous, but let this serve as a warning to everyone. Its also not so simple as installing another ROM and factory reset. So far as I can tell, as long as you stay on the same build OS, you will keep the same ID. The only thing that changed my ID to something else was going back to 2.1.
So friends, don't let friends share nandroids. If you do, play it smart, and delete all but the system and boot images and recalculate the md5.

I believe that the Star Wars: The Old Republic Security Key app is looking at the Android_ID key for a match, and then bombing out. This is only a theory from my experience. But I would suggest to anyone that's willing to try it to attempt to restore both the SWORSK and Settings Storage "SETTINGS/BLUETOOTH", rebooting, and see what happens. Of course, make a NANDROID backup before trying this!

Some good news. I requested for the ability to restore the "Android_ID" be added to Titanium Backup, and they have made it so. I tested a couple times and can verify that it is the Android_ID that this app relies on. So for those out there, give it a try if you wish. I should note though that may have to switch the time sync "from auto to manual, then back to auto" to be able to get the site to accept the key. But yes, restoration of the Security Key has been achieved! Good luck everyone!
@Cbjohns
It's working!
I've got nandroid-backup from some months ago, when I used to play SWTOR. Now on the new ROM I couldn't make it working.
So I
1. nandroid-backup this ROM
2. nandroid-restore previous one
3. backup this SETTINGS/BLUETOOTH(only data) and SWTOR app(data+app)
4. nandroid-restore again present ROM
5. restore SETTINGS/BLUETOOTH(only data) and SWTOR app(data+app)
6. reboot(without it, it doesn't work) my phone
-and it's working.
Thanks again!!
I recently got a new phone and had to call support every time I tried a new rom. This has saved me TONS of time, thank you so much!

[Q] Push not working

Hello guys
I need your help here. So I flashed this new ROM, and the Google Push service seemed to have stopped working completely.
1. Gmail not pushing.
2. K9 push not working
3. Google play store not pushing as well
I have played around (sync on,etc) but I can't seem to find what's wrong with it. So I tried to restore a previous Nandroid backup, but the md5 checksum was mismatched!
I then tried to wipe everything, reflash new ROM etc, and yet the Google Push services aren't working as well.
Can anyone help? I am stuck, I can't go back due to md5 checksum error, and I can't move forward because I don't get Google Push services

Yup, done that, still doesn't work. Plus k9 push isn't working either, it seems that the whole push function is completely broken

Push seems an issue with XXDLI8 (at least in HyperGalaxy 1.8), just revert back to XXDLI7.
Yup I read about that too. The thing is I'm still on ICS, and I have never flashed a jb rom before. The error happened when I flashed hyper galaxy 0.7, which is a ics build.
I have given up on that rom, and I'm not on other rom and the push problem persists. I'm not sure what I did wrong, it's like the problem sticks despite me wiping cache, and everything else.

Sure, here it goes. I have been flashing ROMs etc since 2010, so I am quite familiar with the concept, but this baffles me, before I can't seem to wipe everything clean and restart from point zero, because the problem sticks even after a new ROM is flashed. Is there more to this? Like modem/baseband etc? Thanks in advance for your help!
Baseband I9300XXLH1
Kernel Siyah s3 v 1.5 beta 4
Build no IMM76D.I9300XXBLG9
WanamLite ROM XXBLG V2.2
Thank you!!!
Ok I got it figured out already.
Previously I was on a full feature rom, then I flashed to a stripped down rom. I was short of a few apps, so i flashed additional apps, extracted from titanium etc, without checking their compatibility etc.
When I flash a new rom after that, I'll restore all system data via titanium, and that's why the problem persists. If I flash a new rom without restoring system data, then it's fine.
It's strange though, you'd think that titanium would be able to pick up on that if they aren't compatible.
Anyway problem solved and thanks for your kind assistance!

Yea I realised that with SGS 3. With HTC Desire on Froyo/GB, the issue was nearly non existent, I never had a single issue, be it from Sense to AOSP, back to Sense etc.
Flashing is quite a pain then, if system apps can't be restored via Titanium, having to re apply settings like ringtones, widgets etc?
u can make a nandroid backup and restore
do kernels affect push ?
sorry to bring up an old thread, but i didn't want to open a new one just for this
i've recently flashed Perseus 24.2 over Omega 27.2 and noticed that Push notifications dont work when the phone is sleeping.
to get it working, i have to open up the app (eg. Whatsapp, hotmail) and i get all of them at once.
did a nandroid rollback to stock kernel and it was working fine
Q. is there a specific setting to kernels that may affect push?
probably Android ID problem
i didn't want to open a new thread for same kind of problem.
Problem occured when i fresh install DLIB (with wipes and everything). After installation complete, i've restored apps + systemdata with titanium. While restoring, it asked me to whether use new android id or restore the old one in backup. I choose to restore old one. then problems started.
- I can't use Google Play on the web. It says "there is no phone connected to this google account"
- none of my notifications are working. and i assume it is about android id. (today using Titanium i switched to new android id but nothing changed)
any guesses?

[Q] titanium backup hypershell

hey guys,
My questions is regarding the fast/auto app install on titanium backup, some time ago after flashing a new ROM the Hypershell stopped working, i change ROM quite abit and cant remember which rom (if it was a rom that caused it) it was when the problem started, no matter what i do or which rom i put on my phone i still get the "Fast/Auto app install, NO(Hypershell needed)".
I have unistalled/reinstalled Titanium Backup app, the TB Pro key, Superuser app, Busybox, done wipes, flashed new and different roms but it is always the same, i assumed if i was missing something, a new rom with full wipe would sort it , but i'm obviously wrong, i am obviously missing something but i dont know what, if any of you guys could help it would be much appreciated.

Come on someone must have an answer for me.
i had the same problem with another app,
you can check to another sd card ,partition the card ,install the rom ,and install the app,if it work then you must copy your filew of your basic card to the pc,format your card ,partition your card with the "MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition",paste your files and thats it .
i hope to work it,
it 's work to me
For anyone suffering from this issue and finding this thread, I'd figured out what to do (once ensuring I have the Pro Key installed properly) go into TB's "Menu->Preferences->App processing mode" and (re-)select "Auto, Direct". Then restart TB, and you're all set!
I think that what happened is I'd tried running TB w/o the ProKey installed and it reset that setting. Since TB saves to your SD Card, it doesn't usually get wiped on a reset, so it'd picked up the old, non-ProKey setting (my TB said "Hypershell YES" and "Fast App install NO (need Hypershell)".

Question Restoring hardware completely?

Hi,
I run the pixel 6 and I wondered if I can restore my hardware as an image? I mean, when I used the back up / restore from Google drive , I got my contacts, apps but I still need to re download my apps, choose themes, setup about security, fingerprints, schema, Google pay etc.... Is it possible to skip all those things and upload a complete back up as an image, like I do with openwrt and firmware on router?
Thank you
Short answer: No. Longer answer: You can backup apps and their settings with the likes of Swift Backup, but that requires root and the remaining stuff still needs to be set up again.
Last time I restored my phone through Google I selected to restore all apps/contacts/settings and it basically restored the phone close to 100%. What was left for me to do was minimal.

I was thinking of something else. My mistake.
edit: @james8076 Even on a full wipe / factory reset most of the settings are restored including downloaded apps from the PS, text and phone logs. What isn't restored is app data like games along with some passwords that are not saved in Google.
@vandyman I used Appdash once but unless you are rooted it will not restore app data if I recall correctly.
The whole restore process isn't as difficult as it used to be even unrooted and bl locked. I can usually do the whole thing after PS downloads the apps in about a half hour or less. But... it's still a pain no doubt about that.
