So we know the Note can work on Tmobile's network.. as well as HSPA+... And for $60 tmobile offers Prepaid Unlimited everything 4g.. although 4g cuts out at 2gb then on to 3g... well just wondering if anyone's done this? Are the sim cards the same size.. and is it possible to port a phone# to a tmobile prepaid plan? I know I could possibly find this info if I dug around but I'm on the road and shouldn't be even writing this.. can't beat speech to txt..
I gotta have that speech to text app. Never saw one that good before.

I just moved from att to t-mo's $30-100min- unlim. text and data monthly 4g plan. The sim is the same size- standard. When you get your plan activated, you will be assigned a number. When you are up and running on t-mo, you need to call their porting number. They will get it rolling, and in 2-24 hrs depending, your att# will be active on the t-mo sim and your att sim will be dead. Your att account will also be dead. Your old t-mo # will be replaced by the att #. Order your sim online for $1.99 from t-mobile.com. Make sure you get the whole activation kit. You can only get the 100 minute plan online. The other 4g monthly plans you can do over the phone.
And please don't text and drive!

Hi Sashusmom!
Agree with you. Good place to post a reminder like that, considering EVERYONE who comes here has a phone, and prolly more than half "text & drive"... Driving & Texting is like suicide/homicide without "making the plans".... Its a numbers game, with every text you send/read while driving, your odds increase for a disaster...

Thanks for your post, i have a few Q's:
1. Did you have to change the APN Settings?
2. And this was on a AT&T Note, not the Int'l version?
3. And what happens if & when u DO run out of min?
3B : ) Is there a way to add min?
4. Can this be done same on Int'l Note?
ty!

Yea Im wondering about this plan as well Im guessing I need to get my phone unlocked before going to tmoble if I have the ATT note
im running t mobile prepaid now and have been since the galaxy s2 which got 4g might i add..all i did was unlock the phone by going to unlock my phone.com. Then rooted with the unofficial beta 2 version 4.. Everything works fine no forced closes no difference it all works just as i said.. The radio you need is ucld3 but its built into the rom so good luck..no close this thread

thanks for the reply's... I think I'm gonna do this, also I am currently with Sprint paying 99 for the unlimited everything plan.. plus premium 4g..plus tax.. plus insurance makes my bill around $118... So I'd be saving a great deal on either the tmobile4g prepaid or with Straight Talk unlimited everything at $45 .. that would save me more than $800 a year!
So now I need to decide between straight talk via tmobile(see website) for everything $45 or Tmobile at 60 for the same service(I guess). Sounds like Straight Talk uses either ATT or Tmobile towers depending which phone you choose. Any experience with this anyone? Also would I be better off with a international version Note or Att version Note?... I watched a youtube video of a guy doing speedtests using straight talk and the international version of the Note and it looks great!>>>>>>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsNggiZeZ6I&feature=related
Also I was sitting in my car at Mcdonalds when I posted originally.. and I was using the Microphone button to txt.. with a bit of typing.
The 4g Plans can be used for the Note? I noticed that the website said for Tmobile capable phones. Tmobile bring your own phone plans require a two year contract. SMH.
I just killed my Nexus and I'm not eligible for a discount with Verizon until 8/22. I'm looking at the S4, full price in my case, I guess (sigh!) Does anyone know if the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 comes with GSM unlocked? (I remember reading that the Verizon iPhone 5 does and can be used abroad by simply swapping a local SIM card.)
During my trial purchase on the Verizon website, it asked me if I wanted to keep the current SIM number (yes), and later if I wanted the phone implemented for worldwide GSM (do you think they mean through their own services, hence locked GSM, or open to any carrier abroad)?
Thanks for the input.

All you have to do is give them a call and let em know you will be traveling abroad, they will adjust your plan accordingly. I dunno if the S4 is global capable though, hardware wise.... Make sure you call them before using it abroad, failure to do so will most likely result in a massive roaming bill....
If you look on the hardware specs, it says its a Global Ready phone on Verizon's website. It has GSM also. I think it is possbile to put in a att SIM and go. Don't hold me to it though

Yeah, I believe it's FCC required because of auction rules for the 700mhz band Verizon LTE is using.
That said, you may still need root to enable new APNs.

I appreciate if you show screenshot of APN setting. if possible also network screenshot.
For now all I know is you can get WorldWide plan from verizon and you basically will be paying to verizon but you will use that other carrier as an atena... Cool, but it's VERY EXPENSIVE. Calls internet everything. Is there a way to somewhat hack sgs 4 verizon to use it internationally without needing that stupid expensive plan.
The SiMs are very cheap and the phone plans are very cheap in Europe, sometimes it's even more profitable to buy an unlocked phone just to travel.
So, does anyone know yet how to hack it ? There was a way like that on SGS 3.
I upgraded on Verizon and then traveled to Europe on the same day. All was working well with Verizon in the US. I then put in a sim card I bought when I arrived, and it worked for calling as soon as it started (no changes required). The add apn setting was greyed out, but it worked anyway. I put in the appropriate apn settings and it now does mobile data, voice, and sms. I dont know about MMS, yet.
I did all this without root access, but I went ahead and did the root procedure this morning.
I have to go to another country in 2 weeks, and I may get a different sim. If so, I will update after that.
I do have a persistant warning in the status bar telling me I am using a non-Verizon sim, but no other ill effects.

Hey, thanks for info. Are you using Verizons World Data plan ? If not, when you come back to US is it possible that you will get a pretty large bill for using outside of US ? What type of internet are you recieving, 3g, HSPA or maybe Edge ? What countries have you tried this in yet ?
Also where did you get the phone, pre order or in store?
Thank you, I'm asking so many questions because I really wanted to get an upgrade but I will be flying to Europe for this whole summer and I thought it wouldnt worth it right now.
No, I am not using Verizon's plan (as far as I know). I have a local prepaid sim and phone number with prepaid data on a gsm network (T-Mobile) and so I do not receive calls on my US Verizon number - they go straight to Google voice answering service. I get a H+ symbol for data when I am in an area with good reception, and 3g elsewhere. So far, I have only tried it around Berlin.
I bought the phone in the store.

I am asking because i need to know if it will work on a country where the 3g frequency is 2100mhz.
I've done some research on the topic but am having a hard time finding a definative answer on the topic.
I bought my phone thru Verizon (paid in full) intially to ensure I would keep my unlimited data plan. Since this purchase I've discovered that T-Mobile has s $30/mo plan that fits my lifestyle just fine. My intent is to sell my plan (craigslist/ebay/etc) to get out of our contract and make some $$$ on the side.
When I bought this phone 1 of the major draws I saw was that, even though it's a Verizon phone, it wasGSM compatible. I've read plenty of posts about users throwing in a ATT sim card and being good to go. On the tmobile side of things, the results aren't as clear.
So.... Long story short, I'm looking for a definative answer if the Verizon GS4 will fully work on T-Mobile's GSM network and if so, where might one find some guidance on what I need to do if there are any necessary steps involved.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Plain and simple... No, the Verizon GS4 will not work on Tmobile. Verizon is cdma and tmobile is gsm. It will not work

I'm a VZW customer and I work at T-Mobile. I've tried popping in my manager's T-Mobile micro sim-card into my VZW S4. The voice service worked flawlessly but there was neither 3G nor 4G connectivity. No idea why.

These questions are tricky. Work!? You have to define that word before you get your answer. Voice works and so as data IF you add APN manually (or if it comes automatically from T-Mo). Now by data you mean 2G(EDGE)? 3G(HSPA)? 4G(LTE)? It also depends on whether you are in an area where T-Mo has re-farmed 1900 HSPA. If you are in one of these areas then you got 3G for data. If not, 2G for you. No 4G anywhere for this phone on T-Mo.

Yes, it is %100 possible. It's involved...to the extent that it might not be for those who aren't willing to turn their phone into a PDA.
In this post I explain (condescendingly, because some guy was so sure it wasn't possible) that phones nowadays are capable of multiband...because it's just not cost effective for manufacturers to produce one phone for CDMA, then one for GSM, one for LTE, one for AWS bands, etc etc...you get the picture. If you look up the specs of the chips in the S4 (probably the same across the carriers) you'll see that it's a pentaband phone.
Short story long...I come from a time where there wasn't a "It's not possible"...my job bought me a VZ S4 which I plan on using with my Tmobile simcard...because I don't feel like carrying a Nexus 4 AND an S4...I'll post my progress in the forums for all to benefit from. Until then...
I only tested it for a few minutes.... but I did get lte on it but not sure about aws... on T-Mobile. Sorry I couldn't do a more extensive experiment.

Yes it is possible. And it is actually not that much work.
#1 be rooted
#2 put in tmobile sim and restart phone (cant change apn with vzw sim)
#3 change the apn settings for voice and data to t mobile (google it)
I have been using a verizon i545 S4 on tmobile for 3 weeks now. I have voice text and 4g h+ data.
The S4 is global, even if verizon tries to lock it down.

how are you getting 4g? I'm only getting 2g ;-; i'v ebeen asking everywhere but everybody seems to think it cant be done i guess? I just get ignored by the usually helpful community.
I am also on hyperdrive, have you looked at their coverage map? And what apn are you using tmobile has 3. Standard phones, smart phones, and I believe one for hipsters aka apple? The proper apn starts with fast. (Its 645 in the morning google it yourself)
Another thing to consider, you might be getting 4g or h what ever, t mobile is half as fast as verizon. I had to use xposed framework to turn on the proper icons.
The steps I posted are all I did, other than being on hyperdrivre rom. Try setting to gsm as your preffered network?
Im sorry people have ignored this and claim its impossible, the tmobile guy in store actually got his manager to come use my phone after I got it working in front of him in store. The store manager told the employee I must be some super hacker and this isnt possible for normal people. All i did was imout the apn and the sim nothing crazy.

I think this deserves a thread on its own and this shouldn't be closed because there are a lot of different ways this can go and a lot of different ideas behind using this effectively.
I was unhappy about the amount of money Verizon charged per month so I decided to end my contract and use my Note 2 on T-Mobile. Unfortunately, "T-Mobile" Note 2's are rather hard to come by so I stuck with the Verizon one and decided to unlock it. My question is:
For people using the Verizon Note 2 on other 'contract free' plans in the US:
1) Which rom works for you?
2) Did you modify settings to get data to work properly?
3) Which plan did you choose and how do you like it?
I'll start:
1) I'm using Tweaked. Out of the box, it works with T-Mobile SIM card and receives data as well. In San Diego I get HSPA+ most of the time, even indoors, so the rom works pretty well with different carriers. I did use the Verizon Tweaked rom as well.
2) It wasn't necessary. With the stock rom I wasn't able to consistently get data. I wasn't even able to get Edge to work properly. With Tweaked, I didn't have to modify the MMS settings so I can even send picture messages without issue.
3) I'm using the T-Mobile $30 plan with Wal-Mart. I get 100 minutes a month, 5GB of 4G data and unlimited text messages. Contrary to popular belief, text messages do not eat up my minutes. I send more than 50 text messages per day and I still have about 20 minutes left before my recharge and I'm about 3 weeks into this month.

i just bought a verizon note 2 today for my at&t plan... i put my sim in and i had voice and text instantly. changed the APN and had hspa+ data.. didnt even need to root it to change the apn like i had read on another site. never knew these phones were unlocked out the box from verizon. is LTE possible im wandering with at&T? maybe with a new radio?? even so im fine with 4g, LTE would just be a plus.
Some tmobile users have had problems... I hope somebody can help those users out.

Took my rooted verizon note 2 running alliance rom into a tmobile store today. I borrowed a sim card and booted up. It showed signal, but wouldnt recognize it. I switched to global mode in mobile networks and ran apn global fix and it showed h+, h, and 3g. Data was functional as was wifi. Should it show 4g or LTE as well?

Tmobile 4g is h+ they are rolling out lte oz certain areas but without proper radios the Verizon note 2 will not get their lte and I don't suggest flashing another carriers radios. So hspa+ would be the best you could get.

It works pretty well, WHEN it works. Some roms are stubborn about sticking to Verizon and don't allow the switch. I was using Tweaked and it worked well. Tried out LiquidSmooth and couldn't get cell signal at all. Even with global mode.
Now I'm gonna try out Alliance because I want something more current.

I used my Note 2 in Europe over the last week without many issues. Data was fine and worked well when I used it. Used SFR in France, Vodaphone in Spain, and T-Mobile in the UK. When switching between carriers, first connection to the network took a little bit, but beat out the new wife's SGS4 when connecting to the networks. When I got back to the US, my phone decided to refresh SIM data, but haven't had any issues other than that.
I'm in the process of trying to find an AOSP or 4.3 CM based rom that can use T-Mobile. All I've had luck with so far are TW based roms. As soon as I switch to a CM based rom, I'm not able to make or receive calls and apn settings can't seem to get data to stick.

Anything special needed to run on T-Mobile? Or just drop the SIM in and change network mode?

Just wanted to update some experience:
AllianceROM :
1/5
Just not a very pleasurable experience. Data worked and calls worked fine but I experienced a lot of bugs just in relation to the rom itself. Re-flashes didn't help. Whenever I opened a picture in Gallery it tried to use this Accuweather overlay on the picture, would always crash gallery. GPS wouldn't work properly either. It was always stuck and GPS fix never seemed to do any good.
Pac-Man:
3/5
I want this rom to work really badly. Out of all the roms I've tried, it's the cleanest, fastest and picked up T-Mobile data just fine. Unfortunately it will not send SMS. I tried changing to global mode, GSM mode. 4G worked, 3G worked, data worked and even PHONE CALLS worked. But for some reason even after flashing again, rebooting, reinserting my SIM card, I could never get SMS messages to work. It has the correct MMS info but that's not the issue. It just will not send SMS.
At this point in time, the most consistent and best rom I used was Tweaked but I wanted to try out AOSP after the Nexus 5 came out and I missed the plain Android. I also get annoyed of the Galaxy excessive amount of 'hint' pop ups during initial flashing.
Just switched to net10 and it's not too bad. Data is a Lil slower but not much. Just popped in the sim and added apn info. Running beans 22.

Anyone have any experience switching to AT&T running on CM? Looking to go prepay due to Verizon not have LTE for those plans.
Straight Talk just shut off the data on my VZN Note 2
I've been using my Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 2 on Straight Talk for several months without any problem. I did the Bring Your Own Phone thing just as they advertised. I never had any problem until 2 days ago when they shut off my data. When I called them, they said my phone and ALL Verizon phones were not compatible with S.T.
I asked why I was able to use it just fine and then all of a sudden they nixed my data. Not the voice or text. Just the data. They only repeated the same prewritten jargon about Verizon phones not being compatible with Straight Talk.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Man, that sucks... I wonder how they found out you are using the Version phone. Just curious which ROM are you using?
I may switch to T-Mobile after my contract ended too.

I get it like that and when I try to redial that same number with the +
I get an error.
Can you also tell me your apn info please?
Got a Verizon G3 Today, And Put My T-Mobile SIM In,
Got Full LTE. .
Just Thought I'd Share That With Everyone. I'm Used To
Only Getting H+ While Using A Verizon Phone On Another
Carrier
Did you have to manually input the TMo APN? I had to when I tested my tmo SIM in the VZW G3.
Same with ATT Straight Talk SIM

Hi there
I hate to bring up an old thread but I recently picked up a VS985 and am currently using it on Ultra-Mobile (T-Mobile MNVO)
I didn't need your APN to get LTE (it picked up LTE right when I put the SIM in) but I'm having trouble getting my SMS messages to go through. Sometimes they go through properly but other times it will say failed to send (when it didn't do this previously on my S3).
is this something specific to the LG G3 or what? Do you seem to get this problem as well?
Thank you very much.
What is the purpose? I could see writing this if a VZW Sim worked in a T-Mobile phone. But why would someone with a Verizon phone want crappier T-Mobile service? More importantly, if you have a T-Mobile account, why in the world would you not have the T-Mobile g3?? Its the only model that has an unlocked boot loader. Maybe I'm missing something but this thread confused me.

I think it's because they don't want to get on a contract/are currently on a contract but want a new phone so they go to craigslist. I don't know about other areas but here in Houston T-Mobile G3s don't drop below 500 whereas I regularly see Sprint/VZW phones for 300.
In my case, I'm a Canadian working in Houston for the summer and I'm heading back home. The G3 (ANY variant) sells for around 600-700 on our version of craigslist (called Kijiji... it's an eBay thing) so I wanted to grab one from here. Got the best deal on a VZW and since it's factory unlocked for GSM use it didn't bother me. All I need is the Band 4 LTE. Reason I posted here is because I'm currently using Ultra Moible $19/mth while I'm here.
The purpose is that its our choice of service & phone. Verizon gets bad signal in my area

Some people need to use verizon as their personal cell provider but pop their tmo work/job sim in when they are at work all day.
There are a ton of reasons for this...
can you confirm that you can use the g3 make phone call, send sms, and get lte?

with tmobile sim?
i am going to get one soon.. thanks.
do yu have some pictures to share for such?
thanks a lot.
On my T-Mobile $30 5gig prepaid SIM this afternoon I was getting 4gLTE data speeds of around 24gb down. I switched back to my Verizon unlimited LTE sim, fixed the settings back, waited a bit for things to settle, and got somewhat lower download speeds. Ping was higher too.

Just did it with a nano sim from an iPhone 5S. Added the APN, and now I'm rolling! Sadly VZW has better coverage in SF than t-mo. :|
My wife gets service just fine with her cricket sim, and while the data works at LTE speeds it only shows H in the status bar.
With my Cricket/AIO Smart prepaid sim in my VLG G3, and the right APN and other settings, I get 4gLTE if available, which is pretty often. It says its 4gLTE then. Since its cricket, the speed is always capped, but its pretty fast.

What app do you guys use to edit the APN.
