Had the Verizon note 2 and loved it. Got stolen at work on Friday. Ordered a new note 3 as a upgrade. Spec wise no comparison. However, battery life seems a lot worse. Notification led is smaller. No auto format for stock web browsers. I hate the look of jelly bean 4.3. I don't like the white dialer pad miss my 4.2 jelly bean. I have 11 days left if I want to return it and get another phone. Note 3 is stock no root yet. Im comparing this to my stock note 2 before I rooted it and added greenify, root explorer, etc. Note 2 also seemed to have a way better battery management system compared to the note 3 stock. Granted the bigger screen, faster quad core and higher full hd resolution on the note 3 is probably the reason. I do have the processes limited to 4 and still have bad battery life on the note 3. Oh and last but definitely not least, the speaker sucks compared to the note 2. Thanks for any input guys. For me this is a first where I might actually want to go backwards in technology rather than forward. Question is, anyone go from the note 2 to the note 3 and wish they had gone back to the note 2?

Dude this is a waste of time discussing this.... The note 3 trumps the note 2 in every way other than the speaker.....

So now they been out a whole min. What's yours thought is the s4 better than s4active. Maybe the note 2. I've used these both for a week not sure from a mixing modding point of view. Any input is great. This has been asked before I'm sure. What's the bests phones out for android.?? If you could upgrade for 0.00 what would you do and why? Thanks

Woudnt this be better in the General Android area to get a much larger feedback than that of the Note users. Since not a single device mentioned is the Note.
The Wife has the Active. A friend has the S4. Another friend the Note 2. The main difference is screen size at first glance. Then you start nit picking and see that the Active is waterproof and all that. The S4 has a better camera. The Note 2 has larger screen and Stylus.
So really which one do you like more?
The best phone is the one that does what you want with having the features you want. What I want isnt what you want so my opinion means little to nothing to you. I like the LG Optimus G Pro over any of the phones mentioned. That is cause it is the size I want, has the features I want and does what I want.
So really nothing anyone says anywhere on the net can help you by telling you which is the best, you decide that for yourself.
My wife has a Note 2, and I just purchased an S4 for my father today. As much as I love the size of the Note, if I was forced to go Note 2 or S4, I'd go S4. The screen is perty, it was fluid, and I feel like the ROM base for it -- I've not looked -- would be insanely expansive as would the number of devs working on it. That said though, I don't touch the wife's Note 2 as it makes me envious. I always want to hit her when I see her on it for 15 straight hours then tell me her "battery is sucking" and it still has like 70% left.
Now, Note 3 vs S4, I think I'd then go with the Note 3, as I reckon it'll have all the fanciness of the S4 with the size we all <3.

This is from a non modding point of view based on stock settings....
The regular S4 isn't that much different than the S4 active. You can either have a water resistant S4 with 8 megapixels, or a regular S4 with 13 megapixels. I read the active isn't as vivid as the regular version also. I'd take which ever one is cheaper. If they were both free I'd take the regular one. It's a very cool phone with lots of fluff features and has the latest software. It's powered by 1.9ghz quad core.
The Note 2 is a larger phone with stylus. If you think you'll be using the pen a lot, and want a larger screen than the S4, this is the phone for you! It's not the latest software. You'll have an 8 megapixel camera and a slower 1.6ghz quad core.
From a mixing modding point of view...
If you have the S4 with the latest software I don't think you can currently mod it at this time. The bootloader is locked. That means the Note 2 wins.
In my opinion... I'd wait for the Note 3!

Ok I will have to edit the op. I should not of started this post drinking on camp grounds. I'm about 2 yrs in with the note. Cracked glass on camping trip and broke my note and they offered me a upgrade. I'm very partial to the note line up.

If your partial to the note lineup man I strongly recommend the note 2. I had it, but broke it to the point of no fixing. It was awesome while I had it. I've gotten a chance to play with an S4 also, and while it is very fluid, the note 2 with the right custom ROM/Kernel combo on the note 2 works just as well in day to day use. You may honestly only see the difference in heavy gaming or emulation & that's the honest truth. That enhanced speed is placebo IMO. I will say the camera and screen on the S4 is FANTASTIC, but I'm perfectly happy with the 8mp cameras that samsung puts out as well as having a 720p screen. I don't need 1080p just yet......emphasis on the yet lol. From the modding point of view, I'm sure the S4 will have just as many mods and custom roms available for it as the note 2. The screen size was the most shocking thing for me though. Having used the note's 5.3 inch 16:10 aspect ratio for so long, and then using the S4's 5 inch 16:9 aspect ratio screen threw me for a loop.
If you can hold out though I have high hopes for that delicious powerhouse note 3.
I would wait another couple of months for the Note III. That's what I am doing.

Hi Guys, currently I have the Note 2. do you recommend taking the Jump to the Note 3 or waiting for the new stuff?. If so, what advantages do I have?
Thanks..
if money is not a problem only then otherwise it's a no no,as I myself have used both and I think there is no major difference that will open your mouth( like from note to note 2)
my advice wait until next August maximum, as in note 3 there is not a groundbreaking tech ( same octa, same 3 th etc etc) ,now next year the tech to own will be OLED CURVED DISPLAY ( like in galaxy round or LG g flex ,but they are nwe so they're mostly like prototypes ) and that my friend ,will be Chuck Norris like thing,

No stay on the note 2.. As an addition I only say this cause of the Knox I The note 3.. If you are going to run stock then it doesn't matter and in that cause I would say yes. . Much faster better camera ability to move apps to sd slightly bigger screen.. But Knox is a real pain if you want to route and do things .
I have both and thought that the Note 3 was a waste of money. I no longer feel at way. I think the Note three is better in everyway. Looks good, feels good, Scover is very helpful. The software is better. The only thing I miss is text flow in the browser.

i think it's not a leap like note to note 2. note 2 to note 3 is like a large step. it's nice. i was going to wait for the other rumored note 3's like flex display and active versions but I can't help it. i had to get it. the specs and full hd display was too alluring.
I listed the pros and cons here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2489871
Not worth the jump to me. Played with a Note 3 extensively and came away not so impressed compared to the Note 2. Would rather just wait for whatever official update is due the Note 2 (well the Sprint version) that brings to it some parity in terms of software features.
I find it interesting that so many people that say that the Note 3 is not worth the upgrade and won't do it are hanging around in a Note 3 forum... just saying.. LOL
I work at a company that has over 600 Note 2's issued to employees. In my opinion, the Note 3 is a good step above the Note 2. Maybe the Note 2 will get a software upgrade, but the hardware will not change. The Note 3 is faster, has more RAM, larger storage options, larger, higher resolution screen, etc.
If you're always waiting for the next best phone, you'll never get one. In today's world, technology is obsolete the day after it is delivered. That said, I recommend that you get your hands on a Note 3 at the Sprint store and compare how it performs to your current phone and make an educated decision based on your personal preferences.
Like most I'm incline to keep the Note 2. agree with the last post but in a couple of months something better may come up. don't get me wrong, I'm watching Swappa very close to see if there is a good price on a Note 3 but in the mean time I'm staying put....

pal like 1ghz this was a boom in 2010(galaxy s)
then dual core was a another blast in 2011( LG 2x)
then quad core ( LG 4x)
this year nothing is like New except the camera in lumia 1020 and other android phones just a little bit more ram a little bit processor (2.5 etc) and more screen and resolution there is nothing groundbreaking tech this year at all that stands apart( hmmm LG g2 rear buttons may be a exception)
BUT NEXT YEAR 2014 it's the time of oleds and CURVED DISPLAYs baby, and that my friend will be a awesome thing to have...
if you have money go note 3 but if you have wise money wait for note 4
(talking specifically about android and note series may have left something to mention like finger scanner in i5s)
I have a Note 2, torn between keeping the 2 or getting a Note 3 or S4. I'm trying to justify paying more for the Note 3 than the S4, but other than the S Pen and RAM, is there any big advantage?

Well I'm sure you know that currently on root is available for N3. I have the N3 and came from a rooted with loki recovery on the S4. I am not missing my S4 at all. Flashing roms was great so I do miss that a bit. But I'm loving my N3 when it come to speed, reliability, smoothness, and battery life all are awesome. I rooted and debloated and use exposed, wanam, and recently trying out the Flash Gordon for flashing theme zip files. But I don't regret my decision at all. Also very good wifi and 4G for me. Here's a shot of some of my battery stats.
I've played with my buddy's S4 and not only did it seem tiny compared to my N2, it was slower. The N3 will run circles around the S4, that's for sure!
There is a sticky thread for this..http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2466108
I currently have, and love, a Note 2. Running Synergy ROM on Sprint
But, I'm jealous of those who have the Note 3 and have updated to 4.3 and even 4.4. My wife said I could use her upgrade now to get the 3 and she'll use mine in July to get her new phone.
I'm really tempted but am wondering if I should wait for the Note 4, whenever that will be.
Please, could you steer me a bit?
Thanks
won't it be 2 years for the note 4? what kind of cycle is samsung on I thought S then N they just did the Note 3 so next up is the S5 then after that the Note 4
The Note 2 has superior battery life to the Note 3 and the camera is better in the Note 2 for stills (a lot better) but the video in the Note 3 is amazing (4k is truly amazing 8MP frames !!!)
I also really love the 1080p panel! man do I love this panel. I put my Note 2 on boost now that I have my Note 3 on my sprint account.
I don't agree with the note 2 having better battery life or camera. The N4 will probably be out in ten months or so. Long time to wait. I would say it's worth getting now. Whether you find one off contract or through using an upgrade.
well my note 2 will go 25-30 hours medium usage on stock battery while my note 3 can't go 12 hours with medium usage. I am about to wipe the device to see if maybe something is hinky but its been like this since day 1.
the note 3 camera sucks balls. if you don't think so you don't have a note 2 or don't use the camera much.
noisier pictures. nearly USELESS in low light and absolutely rubbish dynamic range compared to the Note 2. the difference really is dramatic. I will have to take the time to post some sample images. I use the camera in both A LOT and the note 3 camera was a HUGE let down.
now for video its amazing. but not for stills.
10 months. nice my upgrade will be ready by then. I hope the iphone 6 comes out just after the Note 4 and really kicks some ass so I can get some free Note 4's
I've already had the s3, note 2 and currently have a s4 and note 3 and have taken a few thousand pictures total in combination. I am more than happy with the successors to the previous models.
S3 and n2 are equal photographically. I take several hundred pictures "a week" most of the time. I am not joking when I say I have probably taken 6 or 7 thousand pictures with my note 2 and that is being conservative.
Get a note 2 use a custom rom with note 3 features and wait for the note 4 saves you a few hundred
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
He already has a note 2 and is running a custom rom. Back on topic, go for the n3.
It depends on why you want the note 3.
For me the upgrade was desirable for these reasons
Larger screen
1080p panel
Dramatically improved front facing camera
4k video recording
Ir blaster
A minor nice feature is improved spen
Otherwise the n2 can do pretty much everything the note 3 can do.
The note 2 is about to get 4.3 so thats a non isssue
If you really dont need any of the above thinfs you are probably better off waiting for the n4.
If you really want the n3 you might want to consider the iphone 5s. Its cheaper than the n3 (not always) and you can trade it on cl for a note 3 pretty easily. Save some cash.

Q: Does the Note 3 offer a better Bluetooth experience or are they basically the same?
Q: I haven't been in the ROM forums (at least the new ROMS, I check Synergy daily with no updates) for awhile. I'd love to try a new one but have been hesitant to ask because every "Which ROM is best" thread is closed pretty fast.
I have no performance issues with Synergy but would love a ROM that's a little more updated and as stable. My Note 2 is Sprint
Would you suggest a ROM?
The Note 3 is a beast of a phone, with MUCH better camera(13 mp vs8), 3 GB of RAM, and quad Snapdragon processor. All of the hardware is faster, with a much lower power consumption. HOWEVER, if you are planning on rooting, forget it. Just look through the forums at all of the problems people have had, as well as the total lack of development. Having said that, many of the reasons to root(other than cosmetics) are gone.If 24-36 hours of battery aren't enough, get a 0Lemon 10k Mah battery. KitKat will be coming probably in February, which will bring further battery, and features. The Note 4 won't be out til Sept at the earliest, so those are the honest nuts and bolts answers. If you must have a custom ROM, and are happy with your 2, keep it, with the caveat that Samsung is releasing locked bootloaders with their updates, which may hose your root; If you want a much better phone/camera/battery, and realize that rooting will more than likely involve you in a nightmare of warranty/and/or bricked phone, go for the 3. It took a while for me to get over not having a custom ROM, after soft bricking/bricking 2 Note 3's(thank goodness i am with Sprint) But I am very happy with my 3. The biggest consideration is if you are in a market that Sprint is rolling out Spark in, hold out for a tri-band phone. Right now, the only decent phone that is tri-band is the LG G2. Hope that helps.....

Just 12 hours on medium usage? Good idea trying the wipe. If that doesn't fix it take it and get it replaced (even if you're knox is tripped. Sometimes they don't even check). Note 3 has great battery life. On a 12 hour day I use about 50-60% with average use. Good luck!

yes. I actually kept my note 2 stock as well and it was one of the first phones I've ever done so it even though there were a few features that were missing. The note 3 has everything I could ever want feature wise and I don't for see myself rooting anytime in the future.

I see a lot of you guys are keeping your note 3 stock and are not rooting them. My question is this, is there really that many problems trying to root this device? And besides custom roms/themes, why isnt anyone interested in the wifi tether? This feature is the main reason why I root all my phones, so I can have free mobile hotspot access. Is it still possible to have this feature or did sprint do away with it?

I rooted, installed TWRP and flashed a ROM and took all of 30 minutes. I waited about 2 months before I rooted mine hoping there would be a work around to not trip Knox but one day I asked myself "Have I ever sent any phone back to the manufacturer?" No I haven't. I have the Sprint asurion insurance so F*** Knox! I am now asking myself why did I even wait 2 months I should of did this day one. I've only rooted HTC phones and Samsung phones and this phone is very easy to root. I used Qbking77's videos, he and them are awesome.

I'm thinking about upgrading, having been on the Note 2 for 3 years. I'm running Alliance Rom 32 (4.4.2) and it runs well so maybe I should just keep it. I would get the Note 4 but I use root for Viper4Android, Adfree and to be able to turn off/remove background "bloat" apps. Maybe the Note 4 is fast enough to overcome the lag background apps can cause?
I'm on a VZW family plan so tethering isn't an issue.
I use the Pen once in a while for note taking but could live without it.
What are rooted Galaxy Note 2 users moving to?
Thanks,
I've been on a rooted Note 2 for 3 years also. I'm stuck since I'm on a grandfathered unlimited data plan. For me it's all about the camera. I use my phone to document my kids growing up. That being said the best camera on an Android device right now is in the galaxy S6 but the lack of removable battery and storage kinda blows so I would probably get the Note 4 at this point even though I'm kinda over the phablet thing. A buddy at work has the Note 4 edge and that thing is nice. Also you may want to consider the next iPhone. I hate to say it but everything is designed to work with it.

@Dugall12 - thanks for your thoughts. You post confirms my suspicion that perhaps my Note 2 running Alliance ROM 32 is about as good as it gets right now. Like you I've considered a 5 inch screen phone. We have an extra Galaxy S4. I just rooted it to stang5litre debloated Lollipop 5.01 OC1. I used it for a few days and thought performance and battery power were quite good. I then gave it to my college age son to try and he says its overheating. I think he's running some third party app that causing the issue. Another option is we have an available VZW upgrade and could get an S5 for $50 through Amazon.
I can't believe Samsung turned the next Galaxy S into an iPhone clone. I have done a few screen repairs for friends iPhone 6's and had the opportunity to use those phones for a few hours just to see what they're like. I'm not impressed. I find an Android running Nova Prime to be more intuitive and easy to use. I don't get the attraction of a sleek and beautiful phone - they need to be in a bumper case - at that point they all look the same. For those who want to argue that - every screen repair I do is for phones used without a case.
