Hello,
I have a 'teclast p81HD' Chinese tablet, which was released with Android 2.3 and later they released 4.0.1.
It is based on RockChip RK2918 CPU
CPU: Cortex A8 1G
RAM: 512 MB
Since Android 4.4 has just been released, I was thinking to compile it from source code and flash it to the device.
By following this guide, every thing should be easy.
One problem is, I don't have the "proprietary binaries", but I have the stock img file of 4.0.1. Is there a way to extract the binaries from the img file ?

Nice one, going to sound a bit silly this but where do you put the .img file for the software to unpack it?

1. move your *.img file in "_In" folder
2. open Runme.bat in cmd
3. run the "init Tools" command
4. Confirm the copy request
It will then create two folders "Pack" and "Unpack". According to your command the new files will be created in the respective folder
i.e. If you choose to unpack the img file, new files will be created in the "Unpack" folder
hope that helps
NIce one, will give this a try and see how i get on, thanks again.

Updated CyanogenMod7 files for Archos Gen8 on OpenAOS web site:

openaos-gingerbread-bull-gen8-121502.img.gz

I have an older version on my 101 Gen8 that has massive problems with the number of app due to 256MB limitation, even more than stock fw. Do I understand the gen8_data.img.tar.bz2 - file right as being an easy way to lift app-filespace to 1GB?
Also from the description it sounds promising that this version seems to have included the partial UBS-failure-fix from the newest stock fw.
Any input on these issues anyone?

openaos.org is down due to hardware problems. The owner is waiting for new parts to arive. I will ask him when he expects it will be up and running again.
gen8_data.img.tar.bz2 will only increase data storage for gingerbread (CM7) not for the original firmware.
It will fix usb host when booting into stock android from openaos multiboot menu, you will need to flash the kernel which comes with the download.
USB host, slave and mounting the sdcard (not internal storage) on your pc will work on the next CM7 release Crow.

Good to know, then I'll just wait.... Increasing storage for CM7 ist just what I need, I want to make CM7 my default because GB is so much better on the 101...
The next release sounds even better... :good: This makes the tablet sincerely usable again...

Thanks a lot It looked like the standard "slow download for free" - but then it requested a premium for € 2,90 anyway...
Box is much better; downloading...
Is there an installation manual somewhere inside XDA? I did this some time ago but forgot the details... I have a GB and latest stock-ROM on the 101 with multiboot. Though the booter is kind of messed up, I once chose the shortest wait-time by accident and now it won't let me go back to a humanly usable value... I hope to fix that by installing this freshly...
Not sure if there is a manual anywhere, but on my A70S I have to hold Vol- down whilst powering on, you then get a mini menu from which you can get to the recovery menu -> developer edition menu.

I made this thread for all the ones (like me) who are trying to learn how android is working, how to do custom rom or other optimisations...
Post your questions here !
how to make android run smoothly and fast on wave 2 like wave 1 ?
Basically easiest way is to port Tigrouzen kernel on Wave II... Since their about the same device this should be easy (I think). Just a copy/paste on screen driver should be enough... I'll give it a try later... Need Linux first :silly:
The main problem on our device is... RAM... So we must find way to have more or to be handled better.
ok.. keep us updated
---------- Post added at 07:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:58 PM ----------
but there is one thing that i can't understand... galaxy mini has android and it's way weaker than wave phones galaxy mini has 800MHz processor and 384 mb RAM (I think) and wave phone have 1GHz processor with 512 mb so can't we run it smoothly ?
FAIK...
Wave on android has 250MB available... There is 128MB RAM more, but reserved for modem.
ok i understand now .... but is there any app or command that allows us to increase ram or manage automatically while using android ?
You can install swap, it's like in windows, it uses "regular memory" (on HDD for windows or SD card for android) as RAM, but it's not as fast as RAM and it decrease SD card life. You can install RAM scripts too.
But the best way is making new optimized ROM...
Have a look to dev options and performance options. You can play with them
For those of you who you want to install Linux simply. Install Wibu. Works great for me. http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/windows-installer

You may be stuck by Settings app... Try removing it and replace it by original one.
hey Soxix, plz create a thread for wave II updates.. cause wave 1 user are angry when somebody(wave II) ask for Tigrouzen work.

It is NO ZIP Archiv, where you can extract something and Bingo, 1 click, all is done...

1.
As Windows user I can't extract easily extract cm-10-wave-xx.zip...
Because few files are more then one time...
I wish te remove few files... like unused TTF Fonts, Pics etc...
Maybe also few *.apk files are useless...
Later I will post more details...
2.
How/where is ZIP extracted in Wave? In OSP?
How can read this? On bada site...
For Backup and/or Modification...

I don't understand... It works great for me. Do you mean some files are missing ? If you have troubles you can use cygwin. It easely decompress/compress ROM zip.
You can remove TONS of files. I'm on a slim ROM that I've ported, it's less than 90MB... Original is 150MB... (sorry I'll upload it later, I have got some trouble to upload...)

There is a UK version for SGP312 in development section, but I'm not flashing that either. You lose your TV providers for built-in remote control app, and some other US specific apps and settings. There are millions of people with this tablet in US - I'm amazed that no one wants to help. Very much unlike XDA.

It's because most of the people don't bother modifying tablets unless they're Asus or Sammy tablets. Sony tablets and phones really aren't that popular, in the US, yet in the modding community cause they had crap products for years and now that their products are good and they're offering the best support out of any of the other OEMs.

Yes, 4shared is not really recommended precisely because of the registration requirement. It's much preferred if you use one without such a requirement, like mega, Google Drive or dev-host

Thanks for the information. I have never used dev-host, so I will investigate and if possible, upload the file there.
Edit: I joined Dev-Host and donated $25.00. Big mistake! Worst web site interface ever! And slow! After four failed attempts, I am now trying to upload the file a fifth time.
2nd Edit: Finally got the file uploaded to Dev-Host. Took 3.5 hours. Unbelievable!
It still requires registration, in order to download. I'm not going to register with my real email on a public web share like that, just to download a file. If someone could upload the firmware to a host with no restrictions - would be very much appreciated
@Cat McGowan: can you post a MD5 for the file, to make sure it didnt get corrupted during upload? Thx

I lose root access every time I re-install the firmware (done several times using Sony Mobile's Update Service), but I expect to lose root access because Sony Mobile's Update Service does a "clean install". Losing root is no problem for me because I can quickly and easily regain root access using DooMLoRD's XTZ Easy Rooting Toolkit.

I appreciate the update and details of your actions taken. I am going to avoid doing anything beyond gaining root access until Sony releases their official version of Android 4.2 or better.
DooMLoRD's XTZ Easy Rooting Toolkit didn't work for me on this .370 update, but since it's possible to flash custom recovery like TWRP - that's no biggie. TWRP handled gaining root access very nicely. I highly recommend LK bootloader, now that I've played with it for a while. Right now it's the only way to run TWRP 2.6, which is awesome.

I have the rare projector phone Samsung Galaxy Beam GT-I8520 (the first version). It was only released in Singapore, for a limited time, back in 2010.
Unfortunately, Samsung decided not to upgrade the 2.1 Android version of the phone to 2.2 due to the rarity of the device.
Since then, Samsung launched a new, international, version of the concept with the same name in 2012, but with different hardware and the product code GT-I8530. It was launched with Android 2.3 and has gotten upgrades to Jellybean.
I was wondering if I could somehow upgrade (port?) a firmware(ROM?) for my I8520 using a firmware(ROM?) for I8530?
They have the same resolution and both use ARMv7 instruction set.
Thank you!

yea it is a good guide but I think it is copied from xda
for everything you will get answers from xda so why are you searching for another ones
and after building you should debug to find if there any error exists don't know much about that
anyways check here all you need is there
and search in xda and post in rom building section about rom porting questions
you should be debugged and use emulater to find out any error before flashing it into your phone
I have now downloaded a rom for I8520 and one for I8530.
But they do not contain the files I'm supposed to edit. One is called I8520DXJI1.rar and contains a file called SS_DL.dll and a .tar file containing these files:
cache.rfs
modem.bin
ramdisk.img
system.rfs
userdata.rfs
zImage.img
The other, I8530XXLK1_NEELK1_Nordic_Android_2.3.6.zip, also contains a file called SS_DL.dll and a .tar.md5 file.
What should I do with these? Do I need some other kind of roms?

Maybe "Total Commander" does the trick? There is a free Demo Version available. TC helped me out a lot of times when nothing else worked...
First you need to run s2img (not sure about the name) it is part of the CM tree. After that you can mount it as a loopback device.
out/host/linux-x86/bin/simg2img system.img system.img.raw
mount -o loop system.img.raw /mnt
already done from beginning first Rom was out....
use Android Kitchen
Can anybody port a system dump then?
