Hello guys, I need some help. Been reading EVERYWHERE and have found nothing similar to this.
I live in Venezuela and bought this phone about 8 months ago through Amazon. Phone is great and worked perfectly until about a week ago when it started to lag quite a lot and the next day the screen started appearing glitchy, as shown in these pictures.
Anyways, I soft and hard reset the device to no avail. The screen seems to be responding to touch quite perfectly (because by holding down the power button and sliding down the screen powers it down) but the screen shows nothing.
I have tried everything I can imagine. I downloaded several verions of the firmware for this phone and flashed them to the device via Nokia Software Updater 4.1.0 and through Nokia Care Suite 5.0 (recovery and refurbish). Nothing seems to help the thing. It finishes but doesn't, really. At times the screen seems to display content perfectly and other times nothing at all or just fragments of images.
Also, the NOKIA logo you can see in white with a black background has small lines running diagonally instead of being perfectly and solidly white like usual (can't really tell from the images but take my word for it).
So, anyways, I'd like to know if anyone has experienced anything similar and has any idea of what I could do to save this phone. Returning it is pretty much impossible at this stage, not to mention I'm sure my warranty has run out already and living in Venezuela does nothing to my benefit.
Thank you guys very much. Hope you can help me out.

HI all,
I have made a short how-to video on how to flash one of the many awesome roms (made by our awesome rom-makers) onto a device that doesn't have a power button. I have done it several times and as the question keeps getting raised, I thought I would show some proof.
Some advice before the video.
DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGED OR FRIED PDAs
I have done this myself on an I-mate (Himalaya). It took some trial and error but I am now running WM6.1. In my case though, I had to completely remove the power button from the device. The previous owner dropped it on its head, and I got it for free, unfortunately most of the top is missing, including the power button.
SO, on to how I did it. I took a paper clip (metal) and put it about 1cm down, slightly to the right of where the power button used to connect to the motherboard (in line with the text section of the Contact button on the top left of your XDA). Make sure you have turned your XDA/IMATE on before doing this. You'll find that when you find the right area, your device will turn off, or the screen will go dark (like holding the power button for a second or giving it a quick tap) or it will flash on and off.
If you manage to hold it there for the right period of time, while pressing the other bootloader buttons, then you will be able to enter bootloader.
This took me close to an hour to get just right, on both occasions I have done it, but it eventually worked and you eventually get quicker (5 minutes for me now).
My IMATE was useless without me updating the rom, so I had no worry about frying it if I did something wrong, that is why I was OK with playing around with its insides. BEWARE that you MAY DO DAMAGE to the device.
Good luck.
Here is the video.

Cheers! Hope this helps some people out there get the most out of their Himalayas again.

Wow!
I have seen the video but somhow I felt that whatever you wanted to show is not getting properly visible. Perhaps the illumination is not that much.
But, I ould very well see the c_shekhar's bootsplash screen. hehe
Thanks for the Video. Worked a treat! Now I can flash my XDA again. Yeah the video was a little dark but I got the jist of it anyway.
Glad it has helped someone other than me. Someone also left a comment on the YouTube page that it worked for them as well, which is also good. Our Himalaya's will live on for many years to come!!!
I agree with my video being too dark (Environmentally friendly fluorescent lights are good for environment, bad for how-to videos). I will try and make a new, lighter video next time C_Shekhar ports a new rom!
Power button
I'm from the philippines. I was able to have my XDAII power button repaired it didn't cost that much. If there are repair shops in your area, maybe you can ask about it.

There are only two companies in Australia I know of that can officially fix our XDAs. They are bot hin Rockhampton (about 20 hours from where I live in Sydney).
They are both owned by the same company.
As you can imagine, I would predict that the repair cost would be very high, considering they essentially have a monopoly on the situation, and postage costs, insurance etc
I have a qtek 2020 with the key broken (it misses completely) power. can I perform your procedure?
Thanks
Catalogna
Hi there,
It is hard to say for sure. The only way to know for sure is to actually try it. This procedure has worked repeatedly (at least nine times now for me) on my Himalaya, and several other peoples. It really is a last resort though, so you may want to trry everything else you possibly can first.
Cheers.
good good good
I have put the qtek in bootloader and I now have the new rom. Thanks.
I have solo another problem: after few second what I don't use it the display goes to standby and I must press strong to reactivate it. is it a problem software or hardware?
Glad to hear you were able to flash the new rom.
As for the restarting, I have not seen that before under this ROM, and I have used it on several devices and tested it fairly thoroughly. Are you sure nothing is still stuck in the top of your phone where the power button was (IE you didn't leave the metal device in the top?) Perhaps something in there keeps shorting it out?
Maybe it is just on a short timeout. Check under Start>Settings>System>Power>Advanced
See what time the settings are set to under here for "Turn off device if not used for..." both on battery and external power.
Also, then click on the "backlight" button at the bottom, and check those settings.
Under "Backlight" click on "Battery power" and change the settings to what you want, then click on "External Power" and do the same again.
Then just hit the OK button (top right corner) twice, and you should be done.
Hope this helps.
Thanks!
Hi Jadel. I just want to say thanks! Your video help me deal with a broken power button when upgrading rom for the first time. Without your help, I would never feel like having a brand new phone for free
I also found a way to hard reset a phone without camera button (or record).
Just connect mtty via usb into bootloader, type:
password BOOTLOADER
task 28 0 0
and reset your device as normal.
In my try it corrupted my splash screen but anything other is okay
ROMS
Why on the HD2 do they make roms for SPL 1.4 when every FREAKIN PERSON on the PLANET has version 2.08 I have NO IDEA! STUPID!
Flashing rom

Hi, I recently (3months) bought a htcs740 through ebay. The seller maintained that he had cooked the device from 6.1 to 6.5. I found out later that it was done by 'frauhottentot'' or whatever his exact name is. As a non expert I took his word for it. Anyway, first thing was that the battery lasted max 5 hrs. So I ordered a new battery and the result was the same. I think I could live with this flaw for a while although for a 'modern' phone that's quite pathethic. The real thing that bugs me is the Key-Lock. No matter what parameters I twiddle with, the device always eventually turns itself off ergo: Black screen no reaction on any button, not even hard reset. There is light on the keys when you touch them and also around the nav. button. Imust ave taken the battery out of the phone a million times in the last three months. Today I installed a key lock cab. No change. And I also lifted the Windows App. Lock. No change. A nice phone but really f****** useless. Although I'm a non-expert I have the feeling that the home screen is interfering with the key pad lock. I would appreciate any help or ideas, saoirse

Flash a 'stock' ROM and get to know the device a bit.
My Atrix's screen has become unresponsive in a vertical column (if the phone is in portrait mode) that lines up about with the W, E, and S keys. Restarting fixed the problem for maybe 20 seconds or so after the phone became usable, but doesn't seem to have made a difference after about the third time or so. I also removed the battery and held down the power button for ~45 seconds and then put everything back together, which also seemed to have helped for a minute or less before the stripe became unresponsive again. I also restored to yesterday's backup a couple different times (CM 7.2 stable), which also temporarily helped.
So after a brief search, it seems that the digitizer may be the issue. Is there any way to tell for sure? At first it seemed like a software problem, but it could also just be the digitizer acting erratically because it's going out, so I'm not really sure, and I'd rather not attempt a repair that may not be necessary.

there are some screen tester apps on Play which you could use to see if, in fact, your digitizer is a problem.

Do you have any specific recommendations? I downloaded the touch test app from here (http://www.freewarelovers.com/android/app/touch-test) to see how much of the screen was misbehaving and discovered that it was a perfect stripe the whole way down, but because I'm not terribly knowledgeable about troubleshooting phone hardware, I don't know if that's telling me it's the digitizer or something else. I attached a screenshot that shows where the stripe is.

From what I've seen on here it does look like your digitizer is at fault. I have never had to change mine but there are plenty of posters on here who have and you can look at their experiences to assist you. Also, here's a video I found so you can see what you'll have to do. Good Luck!

That's unfortunate, but at least I know that's what's wrong. Thanks for your help!
I have got a (most likely) hardware related issue with the touchscreen of my Xperia U.
Some parts of the screen are not or barely responsive, which is very annoying when typing. I have to tap some letters twice before they actually work. (It's especially around the 'i', 'n' and 'e' when I have my keyboard open by the way.)
I was running stock Android GB and I'm now running stock Android ICS, after I updated my phone the problem was still there which is why I assume it's hardware related. There does seem to be a slight improvement though, but that's probably because ICS feels a bit faster (so far).
Like five minutes ago I noticed something very strange, when I put my finger near the 'N' on the keyboard, but not touching the screen itself, it kept touching it like 10 times a second, sometimes holding the touch so it would result in a ';', but that's not really relevant I guess. It stopped doing that after I turned the screen off and on again by the way.
Now I've downloaded a drawing app on my phone, to see if the phone would skip the parts that were responding bad, but that wasn't the case.
(I would send a picture, but I'm not allowed to send outside links as I'm a new user, sorry. )
There is a chance that this problem is caused by a kind of overpowered charger I had been using last summer, because when I plugged that in, the phone started doing the same, only waay worse. I haven't used it for almost 3 months though, and the problem occurred just a few days ago, which is pretty weird.
I can probably get a replacement touch screen for free because my brother had this phone too and he bought a new phone because the glass of his screen broke.
But I hope I don't have to use that, haha
Is there any solution to this without taking it to a service center or replacing it?
Thanks!
@Fir3Fli3
Lots of touchsscreen thread in the forum, search and see what they did
Hello,
I got a really weird issue with my samsung galaxy s5(SM-G900F). Out of nowhere my screen wont display anything anymore when i booted it this morning.
I did let it fall like 2 months ago and has a little crack but only in the top layer and nothing happened last night to my phone, no water damage either( also since its waterproof).
Even though i cant see anything, its still responsive. I've tested it with Vysor( screen mirroring software). Now the weird thing is that in Vysor first of all the resolution is messed up, and the region of my android seems to be horizontal in the top of my screen, with left being the top and the right side being the bottom. I've tested this by simply touching the screen in my lock screen and seeing where the bubbles would pop up.
[cant post image links apparently because i dont have 10 posts. can i add an attachment somehow?]
Additional information: My phone is rooted since a few days and I had installed xposed framework, didnt boot after that so uninstalled it in recovery mode and that was the end of that, was working fine again. Since then i had already rebooted many times without problems. Also sometimes when i restart i see a thin horizontal line in the top of my screen flickering for about 0.2 sec. Led, buttons and sound are all working fine.
Anyone seen this problem before and what could be the fix? I'd rather keep re-installing the firmware as a last resort as I can still use WhatsApp in my browser(my main communication method) and also not get my screen repaired for €150 untill im sure about the cause.
Thanks in advance.
