[Q] 3 UK Home signal cannot connect - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have bought a Chinese phone a Flying 7100 which is really an Alps 7102 running 4.1.1. I have rooted it but kept the factory rom. The phone is fine and is a big improvement on my old Desire S with one exception. It will not connect to the Home Signal box I have from 3 UK using the sim card from the Desire S, when I put the sim card back in the Desire S it will still connect so the sim card does not seem to be the issue. The sim card when in the F7100 on the normal 3G network works fine and is better at getting and holding onto the 3G signal than the Desire S.
I have tried the following with success only with 3 de-registering and registering the number, this got voice calls.
A. Changed the IMEI on the F7100 to the Desire S value. No affect.
B 3 have de-registered and registered the phone number allocated to the sim. This allowed voice calls through the Home Signal box but data is still blocked.
C.As the sim card is registered with a ported number I have also added the old sim number to the registered numbers list. Under Sim management the F7100 I have changed the sim number to the ported number. No affect.
The phone will initially connect with 5 bars and voice calls can be made but then the aircraft sign appears every 5 to 10 minutes for a few seconds, there is never a sign of a data connection, I have installed Femto Widget lite and it shows the phone is connecting to the Home rather than connected. The normal 3 signal close to the Home Signal is virtually nil.
I have MTK Uncle loaded and there are loads of settings to try but I don't know where to start.
Appreciate any ideas on what to try.

[Q] "Restricted access changed" + "Voice call service blocked"

Hi,
I purchased a Chinese Android mobile which has the MTK6573 chipset. It is called a Star A3.
Love the phone however I regularly see the alert/error "Restricted access changed" in the status bar and the signal drops off both SIMS. If I pull down the status bar and check details it says "Voice call service blocked".
What is interesting is that it is always the Vodafone NZ SIM card even if I swap cards between SIM slots. Other SIM is 2Degrees.
I've searched the internet but there seems very little info on this subject other than to say that some HD9 users have had the same issue and have Spice Mi 350n users.
Some suggest it could be a IMEI issue but I'm not so sure.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Can provide more info on request.
Thanks in advance.
*** Additional info... I've turned off my SIM data connection which was linked to my 2Degrees SIM and now both SIMS manifest the same error. If I re-enable data on the 2Degrees SIM only the Vodafone SIM gives the error ***
I have the same issue on an IHTC HD2 bought on fastcards with the same chinese android. I don t know what the problem is. Everytime I turn the phone on there is available network, but after 5sec it gets blocked for good. I only have one SIM card and data connection doesn't work. This is freaking annoying ...
Thanks for the attention
Sounds like a slightly different issue than the one I have as my phone will reconnect and I can use it but it frequently drops off.
Perhaps turn your phone on without the SIM card in it and get your IMEI numbers.
You can google websites to check your IMEI numbers are valid. Perhaps they are not valid and your carrier blocks the phone?
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Have found one other thing...
If you go into mobile network settings and change the network mode from say Auto to WCDMA only or GSM only you receive the "Restricted access changed" error notification immediately so I'm guessing it is related somehow?
It would appear the "Restricted access changed" notification appears whenever the network mode is changed from 2G to 3G either automatically or manually.
Images attached.
Occam's Razor strikes again
I had this same problem with an unlocked phone on AT&T network. Seemed to happen totally at random. It was driving me nuts, and nobody from AT&T could figure it out.
It occurred to me that the problem might be physical when the phone failed to recognize the SIM at all one time. Seems to be that the SIM card wasn't making good contact with the socket. I put a few pieces of scotch tape on the SIM card so that it fit a lot tighter and made really good contact, and I haven't had a single problem since.
(I don't know enough about it to explain why this worked for me, but I theorize that a loose or weak connection somehow fails out and introduces some kind of garbage data that the phone and/or network doesn't like, and it gets blocked as a result.)
Thanks for the post.
The problem is that between me and my friends there are about 5 of the exact same model all doing the exact same thing.
And ALWAYS when you go into network settings and change from say AUTO (WDSA/GSM) TO GSM ONLY.
Cheers
I'm curious to know if taping the SIM card so it makes better contact solves the problem for you. Does this problem happen with different SIM cards of different brands and networks or do you and all your friends have the same?
Hi again, tapping the SIM card does not appear to make any difference. I've also tried thickening the SIM card by sticking a layer of tape to it.
Seems to happen in low reception areas where the phone may lose signal and then reconnect to the network... I guess similar to how it is replicated by changing network mode.
Can you repliacate it on your phone by change the network mode? e.g. auto wcdma/gsm to gsm only
Hi i had the same version Star A3 iam frome Egypt and had the same problem i tried to put different sims from different agents but the same problem any person can tell me how to connect my android mobile with pc or from where can i get its driver
Thank you

I just changed my htc desire to a one S. Same Sim. It keeps popping up 'preparing sim' and 'restricted access changed'. Never did this in the desire. Only the handset has changed. It's not a poorly fitting sim. You can shake, bash, etc. no effect. It'll happen quite often. Could certainly be as others state when switching from 3g to gsm etc.
It seems I spoke too soon. My phone (Blu Studio 5.3) started doing it again. I can produce the "restricted access changed" message by switching from WCDMA/GSM Auto to GSM or WCDMA only and from WCDMA to GSM or vice versa. It's something with the switchover.
I have noticed that I get Restriction Access Changed message only when 3G is turned on. I turn 3G off and the phone does not lose the network any more. Yet to figure out why it happens...
This started happening to me today and like the post above mine only after switching 3G off does the restriction go away. This is annoying but I'm about to reinstall my rom and see if that helps.
Just had the same problem on my SGS3. Only thing that fixed it was a powerdown and a battery pull. Hope it doesn't happen again.
Same problem
I have tried putting in 2 different sims. i bought a fake iphone 5 from china. it is saying no service: restricted access changed. Please help!!!
I'm getting this today with a Nexus 4 running on O2 UK. I've never seen it before on any phone and have been on O2 for years.
I sometimes can't dial out and calls in are going to answer phone. Also, texts are not getting through.
Airplane mode off/on seems to work.
The weather is appalling here today (Snow) I wonder if it is to blame.
I have contacted O2 and spoke to a guy (who knew a lot less that I did about the device/network). Anyway, a new SIM is being sent out. We'll see.

Update. My wife's phone also not working (O2) although she is not getting the "Restricted access changed..." error in her notification tray.
I can confirm this is happened on my Nexus 4 also. cell reception disappears for a moment then comes back. after that all seems to be working as normal and hasn't caused any problems with me, except for the mystery and intrigue. does anyone know what causes it? I receive the notification "restricted access changed" and then when i pull down the notification bar to look at the notification, the notification is GONE ! it does not stay in there.
I'm definitely putting my Nexus 4 issue with this down to the heavy snow that day. It hasn't happened since.
New Nexus 4 here with t-mobile prepaid. Had it happen last night when I got home for the first time. It was showing 2 notifications, one for voice and one for data. When you click them, they go away. Saw them appear a couple more time through the night and this morning they were also showing.
No snow here though...

[Help]Phone Not Allowed MM#6

Hi Guys,
My friend has asked me for some help with his x10i.
He's purchased it from a market, and it was locked to T-mobile.
Its since been network unlocked by a local store, in theory to allow use of any network sim card.
However when you boot the phone with a sim card in, it comes up on the notification bar
"Phone Not Allowed MM#6"
It will show the little signal bar full.
Checking phone status it shows
Service state - In service
Mobile Network State Disconnected.
It appears to register onto a network, be that orange o2 ect.
But we are unable to make outbound calls, receive calls.
Yet browsing via gprs is working.
I have checked the IMEI with the T mobile. They advised that the phone is clean and not barred.
I have Tried different Sim cards i know are working.
I have Flashed the Firmware back to Stock, Tried the Latest Firm and a few other different combinations.
I am now Stuck.
Any suggestions?
Thank you

Indian Moto E (2nd Gen)LTE Dual Sim Variant, Marshmallow OTA, One sim doesn't connect

Hi all, I recently got a weird and strange issue out of the blue 2 days ago. No update/changes made just before issue, no playstore update done too for at least 4 days before issue popped up.
Sim Slot 1: Airtel 4G
Sim Slot 2: Idea GSM
Android Version: 6.0 (Moto's OTA official release)
Baseband Version: M8916_2020629.41.03.21.51R SURNIA_EMEA_DSDS_CUST
Kernel Version: 3.10.49-g4979ca4 [email protected] #1
System Version: 24.51.39_SURNIA_retasia_ds.retasia all.en.03 retin
Build Number: MPI24.65-39
Unrooted and Locked bootloader
Issue: 1 SIM doesn't connect to network
1. Airtel was receiving 4G signals without any problem for weeks, however 3 weeks ago, it showed only "H" which is fine with me and working decently well.
2. Was watching a YouTube video, the Airtel network on SIM Slot 1 goes off. Searched for network, gets message "Error while searching for network", Idea on SIM Slot 2 works fine.
3. Airtel SIM is fine, both SIM Slots on Moto E2 are fine. Tested different combinations with my other SIMs and handsets.
4. Did airplane mode few times, no go, did radio turn off and on in *#*#4636#*#* . Gets lag there. Turns off on touchwiz but inside 4636 still shows on button to turn " off" radio, also selected LTE/GSM(PRL) in preferred network ther.
Played a little and found 2 temporary workarounds.
Workaround 1 : (Fixes problem for 5 minutes or so)
Disable SIM in Slot 1, Switch mobile data to Slot 2, enable SIM in Slot 1, gets network, switch mobile data to Slot 1, gets "H"... Slot 1 at "4G recommended" by default, 5 minutes later, network goes off. Search for network, mostly get "Error searching for network", randomly, Slot 1 detects Airtel network, when connected, says " SIM doesn't allow connection to this network", back to square one...
Workaround 2: (Has been fine for past half hour while I am typing the issue here using the problematic connection)
Set Slot 1 to 3G as soon as it gets working network with working 3G, after doing exact same steps as in Workaround 1.
To be noted: 4G/3G Airtel Network is fine in area, Airtel SIM is fine, SIM Slots are fine, other Idea SIM in Slot 2 doesn't show any problem at all and connects to internet too just fine on EDGE ( as it's a 3 yr old sim) , numerous restarts done, app cache cleared.
I am a Noobie, so please bear with me, I posted all the relevant details I could think of, as detailed as possible. Phone is 2 months old only, came with lollipop, upgraded to marshmallow through Moto's OTA update, never rooted or played around with ever.
This is driving me crazy, I could logically only think of some problem in the OS causing this issue without any warning or apparent reason... Tried different forums, no one posted about facing similar issue in India anywhere yet.

I haven't seen this issue on my phone either. I have the Indian 4G Variant as well (XT1521). I would Recommend u to go to recovery mode and wipe data and cache (This should completely erase ur phone and hopefully fix ur issue). If this doesn't work I'd recommend u try and unlock ur bootloader and flash CM13 and test if this issue persists. If this issue persists I believe it's a hardware problem. Don't worry unlocking ur bootloader will void warranty but relocking it is extremely easy which will prevent ur warranty from being void.
Best of luck[emoji2] [emoji2]

Thank you for suggestions
Hi All,
Just to update, my workaround 2 has been working so far without any problem for the past 1 week, I can put airplane mode on and off and it comes back, I restart too and get proper network on both sims and the 3G mobile network of Airtel. Scared of putting recommended network as 4G for Airtel or playing around with it more for now fearing I may lose it again. If I have to do in future, I'll post the outcome.....
I've wiped the cache though from recovery mode as suggested... don't know if it changed anything... Also did all playstore updates without problem.

Can't make calls (3 UK) - Solved

I just got a P9000 today and after a quick setup of the device via wifi I proceeded to inset my sim card from the uk network 3/three.
Now my network shows up when doing a search, and in the SIM settings it shows 3 UK for all options, but only the calls option is greyed out, and I am unable to make any calls with the phone whatsoever.
I don't get the no network message error (except when I am in an area with no coverage i.e. in my house) .
I've tried the sim card in both slot 1 and 2 to no avail.
I get 3 showing up in the notification tray icon which toggles data, plus it shows 3/4g next to the signal strength bar when I'm somewhere that gets a mobile signal.
It even show the correct network in the SIM status within the about phone section of android settings with the correct IMEI number.
Does anyone have any idea on my issues and any potential fixes/test/things I can try in order to get calls working?
Seems like my problem solved itself and I can now make calls.
Don't know what was/is wrong but calls option is still greyed out, though I made 2 test calls this morning (to Landline and mobile) which worked, then later on I made a call of a few minutes which worked as well.

SAMSUNG PIE: SIM card detected and enabled but cannnot find/connect to mobie network

Hi,
I purchased a USED Galaxy A7 2018 dual sim F variant. When I first inserted my SIM card, it was working fine. 4G and calls, all were working.
But after I factory resat it, mobile network stopped working or even detecting. SIM card is still detected and I can see it in "connections" under SIM cards in settings app on my phone. But when I try to dial a number it says "not registered on network". On lock screen, it says emergency calls only. When I go to "mobile networks" in settings app and tap to select network automatically or manually, it gives error that unable to find/connect to a network.
I tried three different sim cards yet same thing happens. SIM cards work just fine in other phones. Also, it is not a problem with sim tray on phone as sim card is detected and shown and as I said before, mobile network was working fine before resetting the phone.
When I purchased it, there was a custom ROM installed on it and OEM Unlocking was ON. I installed latest stock ROM from Samsung plus a couple of stock ROMS but same thing happens with every ROM.
I am out of ideas on what should I do now. I would really appreciate any help anyone can give.
Thanks.
Finally found a solution.
