thinking about rooting and installing ROM][09/09/2013]M7WLV Port is ths rom TOTALLY BUG FREE??
I've been using it for a few weeks now and haven't found a problem yet.
I'm not sure that any of the Rom's are totally bug free. Most of the sense based ROMs are pretty good! I'm not a big sense user but the ones I have tried work really well.

Cool thanks guys
There is no "best" ROM. Every ROM is great, as we have some rockin' awesome devs. It just boils down to preference.
Sense based:
Software designed for our hardware, less bugs, not many features, but things just.... Work.... You want to stay sense but want a metric S*** ton of features? Try Viper DNA, if you want a little less features, try NOS.
AOSP based:
Made for all iterations of Android devices, more prone to bugs, limited by software (I noticed AOSP camera compared to Sense on this device is a joke IMO, as Sense camera is MADE for this brand of phone, AOSP is made for a plethora of devices). You get nice features with no loss of performance (to a degree). With AOSP you get that Stock Android feel Google intends without OEM putting their skin on top of it.
It really boils down to the features you want, and the way you want your phone to act. Some Roms fly, some don't. It all is just the nature of the beast. Best to try a few out, just be sure to search that ROM's thread for any bugs, reviews, and features.

i've been running it for a while pretty bug free lol, i also run viperdna also pretty bug free, depends on what im feeling, clean stock vs super customization
ABFP (Android Bug Free Project). Just kidding. Anyway, Sense ROMs definitely have the least bugs, but the AOSP ROMs are pretty good too, mostly everything works. I suggest you give the Google Play Edition ROM a try though, It's got all the benefits of being a sense-based ROM but it feels like pure AOSP. It doesn't have all the cool features of the real AOSP ROMs though.

My answer to this question is simple.. Though there are many great roms based on AOSP, they are all based on the CM 10.2 source.. For me, there are still too many bugs that I consider to be showstoppers ... I love AOSP and always will.. but I've been running Sense 5 since Joelz released just the rom OP is asking about.. now I've moved to Venom since I'm a tester and it frankly just works. Battery life is good, performance.. etc. It's all there.. I think there is a strange issue with Skype, but I don't use it.. those that do I feel bad, especially those that use it for phone calls, Venom will fix it.. just in time. :good: ... But honestly, this question can't be answered by anyone but you. Flash all the roms available, give them 3 days each.. operate like you normally do on your phone and see.. Really the only way.. But the most 'bug fee' will always be on Sense based roms.. :highfive:
Running gpe right now because I needed to use viber. With xposed it looks just like any other aosp rom. Maybe I'm just biased, but it doesn't feel as snappy as the proper cm/aosp roms.

I've noticed it doesn't feel as snappy, but I think it feels smoother if that makes any sense.

Hi. first of all I just want to say that I'm a big admirer of XDA forums I've been following the forums for quite some time on various phones but I'm not very active in posts / replies due to my inexperience.
I'm sick of AT&T taking forever to give us ICS and I'm not willing to wait just to get a whole bunch of bloatware and the same old touchwiz. I've come across two good roms: Onlyone and Objection. I'm kind of leaning towards Objection because It's giving me two UI options: Android 4 and the new Touchwiz, but from the replies I got the impression that Onlyone is more stable. Are there any ROMS that use the official ICS code released by Samsung or not yet?
Here are my main concerns: battery life, ROM stability and speed, and of course the good additions like updated touchwiz, S-voice, etc.
Try them all and see which you like best. Nobody can tell you which is best, because that is purely opinion based. There aren't that many, so just learn how to use titanium backup so switching between roms doesn't take too long.

I am a power-user who hates lag. The collective Mesosphere is for you... then install NovA Launcher and zoom zoom... your on your way. Don't bother with other ****ty roms, i've tried them.
Thanks for the replies. I'll definately utilize titanium backup and I'll look into The collective Mesosphere with nova and zoom zoom =)
Mesosphere is rocking it! GB has to get gone, you'll be glad it did. I haven't tried other rooms yet, admittedly. So far I don't have a need to.

I don't believe their are any ****ty ROMs. These devs create awesome roms. I haven't tried them all yet but I haven't found one I didn't like. The hybrid is what I'm rocking now.

Are you running the rom standard or have you enabled tablet mode? I just flashed it, need to put it through its paces.

Are you running tablet or phone mode?
If you prefer the unmodified, pure Android experience that you would get on a Nexus device, you can come close with a CyanogenMod based ROM. These are my personal favorites as they are practically bloat-free and don't have any carrier/manufacturer customizations. The downside on the Note is that there is no S-Note/S-Memo. Hopefully the CM devs will get these apps to work eventually, but the S-Pen does work.
If you like the TouchWiz interface then try one of the TW/ICS leak based ROMs such as OnlyOne. That was the first ICS ROM I tried and I liked it, but overall I prefer CM9.
you can try those ROMs from this guy - flappjaxxx. They are the unofficial CM9 ROM and UCLE2 stock-base ROM. They are really solid, stable, daily drivers and supported well by the awesome developer. These roms get very good comments from XDA-users.
I've tried every single rom.
for CM9- I'd use Mesosphere the rest were pretty unstable.
For Ucle2 + S-pen functionality i'd use FJ's Build. Onlyone was laggy for me.

This is like asking what beer should I drink or who is the best Golden Girl. Everyone is going to have different answers and you really need to try some and find your favorite.
That being said I am a big fan of flappjaxxx's UCLE2 rom.
My recommendation is to go with the Unofficial build of CM9 by h0tw1r3.
Nothing beats the cleanliness of AOSP, and the added features that Cyanogen throws in are well worth it.
I have been running it since he released the first build and it is extremely stable. And thanks to CalcProgrammer1, it was just updated and we may even see nightly builds.
Thanks Calc!

Hey i am going to pick up a dna soon..im waiting for the employee edition thursday! I am going to unlock and root over the weekend. I am coming from the nexus world and pure aosp which is my preference. However with the nexus 4 being gsm only i have to pursue other options...
I know we dont know if the dna will ever have any pure aosp roms but ill take that risk. I know there are only about 3 roms available currently..i want to try one that is stable....what are your experiences thus far? And what do you recommend? Not a fan of sense but i dont mind them. Thanks in advance

the closest thing to ASOP, right now is Genome 2.0. Its not quite ASOP but its pretty close because it doesn't have sense.
If you wan't sense i recommend CODIS ROM, as its very smooth and stable.
I know ASOP will eventually come on this phone because i know a few people trying to work on it now

I second Genome for the closest ASOP style rom. However I prefer UKB's Rom if you like sense. It seemed more stable on my phone and there are more sense/ukb mods out there than senseless ones. All the roms pretty much though have the same options right now within the os.

FWIW, I'm perfectly happy with running stock and a couple of mods. It's zippy and rock solid.
This is the only phone that I was content to run stock for awhile. I've had the DINC2, and rezound before this. IMO this phone is a beast but like others I had that itch and tried nits and now I'm on CODIS. So I recommend CODIS if you want to keep sense.

cyanogenmod 10.1.... just wait 8 months or so.
genome is a great choice ,for me i have the dna and gnex on my dna i would want a fast smooth sense with asop sms, broswer and ema
then akop
but for now genome is a very nice rom
just make sure when you load that rom also install the keyboard toggle zip
UKB. Right now I'm surprisingly enjoying Sense. Back when I had my Galaxy Nexus I would have told somebody else who said that that makes no sense (tehe)

Has anyone here used both? I'm currently using ViperDNA but considering moving towards CyanogenMod 10.1 as it appears to be more and more stable as a daily driver.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Backup and try it out
Everyone has different preferences, so you will get any number of different opinions
Yeah you just have to try it man I'd personal try like slim bean or carbon may jelly beer those are all soils choices and they are more option loaded then cm10.1. Just as stable as well

I agree give it a shot. I personally am not a big fan of Cm 10.1. I like the more polished roms. The Sense 5 Dream rom and Viper are my favorites.

Agreed with what everyone else said, just try it out. You'll get 100s of different opinions. I've tried both and continue to bounce back and forth between the two. They are both phenomenal ROMs with very talented developers.
Viper has full features (otg + mhl) I had trouble with those on cm. But cm is a lot leaner... They definitely both have pros and cons

Depending on which Rom you use I've noticed aosp is snappier where it matters but has it drawbacks as far as widgets goes. Viper is the best sense Rom IMO. Always the best customizations and amazing support. I'm torn at times which one to run day to day but I usually stick with the least problematic. Aosp for DNA has some kinks to iron out so I'm holding out for that.

Unfortunately, I've had nothing but trouble with the Viper ROM. Absolutely LOVE it, but my 4G almost never worked, and I constantly lost all connectivity altogether randomly. Moved to Cm10.1 and haven't had any issues yet. I miss Viper though.
Ok so I have a mdk version of this phone and I want to put a solid rom on it what one is the best do you think of the non tw ones? And another stupid question if I flash like dirty unicorn does it lock down the bootloadrr?
There is no right answer to this... the best rom is the one you like the most, so you need to start flashing and finding this out for yourself.
Flashing roms will not lock your bootloader. Only if you take an official update will it do that.
what the above user said is correct, the best ROM depends on the user. However, i have a rooted mdk gs4 and i was using stock for quite a whole and happy with it. after a while tho, the slight lag and other annoyances got to me so i decided to try a rom. I should note that this is my first android device, I am a long time iphone user and jailbreak expert, so i'm not afraid to get my hands dirty. I decided to try Hyperdrive recently and I absoultely love it. its basically a hybrid of touchwiz for gs4 and note 3 with all of the bloated BS crap removed and lots of customization options. it is much faster and solves some of my gripes and was easy to install. I also chose to try it first because it was similar to what i was already on so it was a good first ROM choice in my opinion. it was also super easy to install. I am gonna try CM11 when it gets released to see if I like it, but for now i would recommend you try hyperdrive

Ive had a lot of trouble with AOSP 4.3 ROM's with Bluetooth. On long conversations the BT will cut out and then the phone hot boots after I hang up.
I dont use that much I just want a good daily driver

All the aosp roms bring something to the table. The touch wiz roms for this phone are great as well. There are fan boys for all of them.
See what you like.
That said. I can tell you which developers I'd follow. I say this based on user support and rom support, and listening to features requests, and a quality product. or a combination there of. Sbreen94, nitroglycerin33, dubbsy, beanstown106 , Bdogg for DU is starting out right. Andybones is also tops but I haven't seen as much of him lately.
Edit: forgot DaMadOne is is doing nice things on his aokp kang.
With the big aosp custom rom's you have a ton of peer support buy typically @ the mercy of whatever the larger team is working on in terms of bug fixes etc...
I have less experience with sacs so can't say there.

I LOVE my ROM rules, your ROM sucks threads!
FWIW, I use CyanogenMod nightlies and it suits me just fine, as always, YMMV!
I have been considering trying out cyanogenmod for the first time (coming from ViperDNA 2.0.x), just to give something new a try. Viper is the first and only custom ROM I've tried so far. I just noticed that a "Stable" version of CM 10.2 was released today. I'm guessing it's pretty similar to the RC version. Any advice/opinions between CM and Viper? Is CM as stable (and pretty much bug free) as Viper? Are there pros/cons I should consider before making the switch?
Thanks in advance for any advice!

If this is your first AOSP ROM, you'll be in for quite a shock. Sense-based ROMs all have a similar feel. Once you get accustomed to Sense, other UI's can feel a little too stripped down. If you feel Sense is too bloated and clunky, then CM may be right up your alley. It's apples and oranges, really. If you really liked the feel of Viper, you'll probably hate CM.

Thanks for the info. I've never really disliked Sense, but I've also never been a huge fan (pretty impartial I guess). I have enjoyed all of the tweaks offered by Viper. Funny thing is, I have always customized the phone to look and feel as close to stock android as possible (used a launcher before rooted and now use tweaks in Viper). That's why I was considering a switch to an AOSP ROM. From digging around the forums, it looks like CM is the most stable AOSP.
Thanks again!
