I had this problem once with my brand new s2 a couple of years ago, took it back twice and got replacements and then realised the phone was fine until I put my micro sd card in, turns out that was corrupt. Try taking your micro sd out and then see what happens.

??? really ? how to do this ?

Fairly easily/cheaply. It's been covered a lot here this year; search for threads along these lines (or you could pay a local mobile repair shop to do it & have to pay relatively expensive labour costs).

I had to get mine fixed last week - it cost me £25 and now everything on my phone works great. I considered buying the part from ebay and fixing it my self (which looks like you could do it for less than £10) but I read a lot and it seems a lot of people have problems getting good signal after the fix (2g but no 3g) because the part can vary in frequency for your antenna and it is difficult to tell which unit you need and are going to get from the seller. N.B. USB and antenna socket come in the same unit - change one = change both).
After taking all this into account and the value of my own time I considered paying a professional with much experience, knowledge and tools to do this job properly and quickly and voila my phone was fixed within a couple of hours of dropping it off with 'the man'
Hope this helps
Remember to hit the thanks button for @MistahBungle if not myself :good:

Good job helping out. Honestly though, don't write anything about being thanked for your posts, either in a signature or the post itself... It's not the point of helping out on Q&A, or xda in general.
And just a tip, many on this forum, including myself, specifically won't hit thanks if the poster asks for it.

Another question , My phone do not turn off....it turn on alone when I turn it off, or when I replace battery.
Will this also be resolved by replacing the micro usb port ?

[Q] Black screen of death

Hello everyone,
Since last saturday i'm the proud owner of the samsung galaxy S2.
I'd decided yesterday to flash the rom with Lite'ning Rom v5 by using Odin.
I've read the thread well about how to 'do' it. Everything went perfect untill odin got stuck on do not turn off target for over more than 15 minutes. I decided to unplug the battery and try again.
Unfortunately im not able to turn on the device again. Not in recovery / download mode nor in normal mode. When i'm recharging my phone it does nothing.
It seems to be dead. I've tried the 3button combination, replace the battery while pushing the buttons. Nothing seems to work.
Is the JIG my only save to turn the device on again?
Please help me, im a bit desperate at the moment.
Greets Kevin
The jig may work but it cannot be guaranteed to work on SGS2 no boot as it would have on SGS1 .
jje
Anything else what i can try before i bring my phone back to t-mobile?
If you can't make it respond when trying to boot into recover or download mode, and it doesn't even do anything when you plug in the charger then it sounds like it's dead. I'd be very surprised if a jig helps, but I've been surprised already today so prove me wrong
yeah hehe, but how can this thing be dead after all? got it not even a week.

You pulled the battery in mid-flash. It's not a guaranteed way, but it's a pretty good way to brick your phone.

Unfortunately, if it's not responding at all then you need to send it for repair/replacement. Either your provider or Samsung - whichever is relevant for you.
Ah right, well try to drop by today then. I hope they don't give me any trouble on this..

Thanks for the information mate, will keep you in touch
Oh well, a quick update.
I've went to t-mobile, and told them that my phone was dead.
They tried to replace the battery but nothing would help.
Because i went back within 8 days, they replaced my old phone for a brand new one.

[Q] How to turn it on without power button!

Hi
My power-button is broken.
Do you know any way to tun the phone on without it?
Any "trick" and special-combination to press?
Thanks a Lot
Francesco
A jig should get you into download mode (assuming there's nothing else stopping the phone from booting) which should enable you to flash stock firmware & get the phone back to a somewhat 'original' state. From there you can send it in for warranty service (assuming the busted home button is a hardware issue) & hope you get said service (definitely possible, but never a given).

My phone is in "original state".
The button doesn't work 'cause I broke it!
I know I can get it back to the warranty service, but I would like to turn it on without doing it
OK. So I take it you've never flashed a non-stock rom or kernel & that your flash counter isn't 1 or more ? Ahhh. You broke the button. Well I guess you're going to have to send it into Samsung & take pot luck as to whether they fix it under warranty. Or pay to have it repaired.
There's no way you're going to be able to easily switch that phone on with out your power button working. You're asking the impossible. You might be able to repair it yourself given screens can be replaced & other repairs can be carried out by users.
Do a Google search & see if there's a tutorial on how to replace the power button & what parts you might need.

He means you need to bridge the connections of the power button with a wire to make a circuit and see if the phone fires up. And I agree with DJ you've got some big cojones my son!

Use a jig to get your phone into download mode. Download Odin and flash either a kernel, modem or csc file (preferably for your firmware but not necessary). After about 10 seconds your phone will automatically reboot.

It's stuffed. Get it fixed under warranty. I'm not sure what the situation was when the button broke, but I hope that it is still solid in 1 piece so that it gets fixed under warranty. If it looks smashed, then they probably won't fix it under warranty.

Did you lose the actual button? If you have it it should still fit in the grooves on the back housing.
For now like I said earlier, download Odin and flash a modem and your phone will boot. Takes 30 seconds.
Edit: power button flex cable costs about $5 off eBay from China.

For the Odin solution, it's the best one. But I don't actually have an USB JIG to make the trick
Anyway, I have just bought the cable, but it will take 15 days to arrive

Ok. I thought you said you lost the button. Good that you haven't.
15 day wait is a long time wait. You have a few options here:
1) in the meantime make your own jig. There are instructions for it all over the internet.
2) most phone repair shops have them so maybe pop past and ask them to do it for you.
3) There is a thread in the general.section where fellow members will allow you to use their jig. There are plenty of users in most countries. Check it out.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1495867
I would also suggest buying one off eBay. Costs about $2 delivered.

Data on your sd card like pics, music etc on the memory card remain if you factory reset or flash a new firmware. Only your apps and settings get wiped.
Or you could flash a no-wipe rom like the current ics lpq. That way everything stays as is.

Thanks, I sorted it. Turns out it. Was hardware.... Nothing a screwdriver couldn't sort out.... My stuff was all on the internal memory not the memory card cause my memory card got corrupted. Having bad luck over the past few weeks.

Glad you got it sorted. For future reference, internal memory is split. Approximately:
1gb system
2gb apps
11.5 gb other stuff like pics, media etc.
Factory resetting will wipe the system and apps. The other stuff remain on the card unless you format it from settings or recovery.

Bricked phone after flashing latest CWM + GAPPS?

Hello everybody.
I was using the first "official" JB leak (the Polish one, I don't remember which one it was). I've being used it for a while, with no problems.
Yesterday, I saw that Faryabb had posted a new version of the GAPPs. Since I wanted the "pinch to zoom" thing in Gmail, I did the following:
- Installed ROM Manager
- Installed CWM from ROM Manager
- Installed CWM Touch on top of that using ROM Manager
- Flashed the GAPPs using CWM.
The phone booted and did it "Updating 37 of 216 apps" or something like that. Everything seemed fine ('though I was mistaken, this version of Gmail didn't have pinch to zoom either).
Anyway, this morning I reached for my phone and it's off. It won't turn off even after pressing any combination of VolUp+Home+Power or VolDown+Home+Power.
I've tried pulling the battery, waiting for a couple of minutes and putting it in again, with no luck.
I'm starting to get "a little bit" worried. Does anybody have any idea of what may have happened?
Thanks in advance.
Edit: When I plug in the phone, the LED does nothing. It doesn't turn on at all.
Try find another battery and test it. If still no response, send back to service centre.

f first thing,, make sure battery is charged, sounds stupid, but it happens
Try using usb jig..it might work...
and yeah charge battery just in case..
Thanks for all your answers.
Battery was at 50% when I went to bed. And it doesn't charge when I plug in the phone.
Anyway, I'll try to buy a new battery and see if it works.
I don't own an USB JIG. However, having read about it, it seems that it won't help with a hard brick (like the one I seem to have).

Hi All,

one last ditch attempt before the jig
Make sure your phone is charged
Try long press power button (10 second+)
That's all I can think of right now
Thanks again.
Since it seems that the phone isn't charging the battery, I've just bought an Extra Battery Kit + Charger and I'm charging the extra battery with the charger. When it has a full charge I will put that battery in and try everything you've recommended.
USB Jig will only enable the phone to boot to download mode if the buttons dont work .
As its small cost always worth a try with no warranty phones .
My guess ROM Manager is the problem
CWM
Not compatible with ROM Manager ! Use the CWM Manager provided instead (installed by CF-Root automatically)

In case someone is interested, the diagnosis was "Faulty electric component" and the fix was replacing this:

No clue of what it means, just thought I'd copy it here in case it helps someone

And there was just a little power outage here in the street.
Just had the phone connected via USB. Now it is no longer appropriate.
I cant power it on. The screen keeps black
What can I do?
Please safe my christmas
No boot, no download mode, no recovery = possibly JTAG or service centre. Or you could try King Rat's trick where he tries to 'jump start' the phone without the battery. Doubt it will work, but you might as well find/try it (search for his username & then search through his posts to find what I'm talking about).
Other than that, you don't really have any other options.

* take battery out of phone
* launch Odin
* locate ROM you would like to flash
* plug ph into pc/laptop (nb, battery still out of ph)
* holding button combo for d/l mode insert battery (extra helper maybe needed)
* 'if' ph gets into d/l mode, flash ROM
NB, this saved my S2 from BSOD

Thanks a lot. But it doesnt work without jig
wow.. that's like 1% chance of having power outage while flashing.
bad luck for christmas lol
Like we would say in germany:
"The luck is with the stupid"
I have to play lotto or bingo with my luck I have
Sorry my friend for asking did you find any solution cuz i also have the same problem
No power on, no recovery, won't recognize the usb cable
I don't know what to do
the bad luck invented chainfire, and chainfire invented mobile odin.
from sii xda-ded
Mobile odin.. Yes too late... I want to test the jig USB dongle. I'll post in a few days if it worked.
Nevertheless i have to send it to the Samsung repair station

It works again!
I sent it to the local repairstation. I told them after a firmwarebackup with samsung kies, my device had hang up.

No boot, no download mode, no recovery = possibly JTAG or service centre. Or you could try King Rat's trick where he tries to 'jump start' the phone without the battery. Doubt it will work, but you might as well find/try it (search for his username & then search through his posts to find what I'm talking about).

sweet a user named after a trojan I wouldna bee surprised if that's the reason why the first flashing of the recovery failed but said success then once I tried it again re-partition magically prechecked itself to brick the device soft and then after not knowing what to do next and reading the phone shut itself off hardbricking it. Thank you kingRAT you made my day. Nice to know that I have to contend with people hacking my computer and installing stuff llike king RAT (or similar) to my system. Outstanding. So paperweight number2 great smashing wonderful great. And if this is considered flaming and deleted oh well I couldn't care less this time. You have no idea how much you just make it more of a challenge for me to kick you around next time. Im off but will be back. But not with soiftwae loaded on my system that much I can tell you,

I ordered one ages ago for another Samsung, it never arrived and they have just resent another one. Which was nice of them. I tried making my own but at the time I didn't have a multimeter so couldn't test the accuracy of the resistors I was using, I didn't see any documentation for the amount of leeway on either side where the jig would still work as intended or the consequences for using one that had different values. I live in a small town that only has one Radio Shack and they only carry multi-packs of resistors. I had to use a series of them soldered together in order to make up the 300k amount. Each multi-pack of 100 or 200 resistors have two of each resistance value, meaning the last 100k has to be made up of two or three separate ones. Also, because the tolerances were loose on the multi-packs they did have I couldn't check for the level of accuracy for each resistor. I made two or three jigs using varying combinations. On another project I did in the mid 1990's I remember seeing a difference of up to 3-4k with some 45k resistors from Radio Shack with the .25% tolerance values. I bought a pack of five 45k resistors and needed 47k I tested each one till I found the one that was closest. I remember the values distinctly because it was the first time I ever modified something (mid 1990's btw). Ironically, It was an old alarm clock/telephone combo and I liked its retro look, but its photocell was getting on making it a pain to be able to read during the day. You had to use a lamp or flash light to see the display. I took it apart and measured the resistance across the display panel when it was at the brightness level I wanted. Which was bright enough to see during the day yet still dim enough not too make it double as a green desk lamp at night, and swapped out the cell for the resistor.
Anywho, moving on maybe the jig will work maybe not I won't know till it arrives. I have a vague memory of having the same result (no power) happening on the other Samsung at one point, so I shelved it for a month or two, then one day gave it another shot and it powered up again. So maybe the same thing will happen again. Failing that I will just use the parts to fix another Samsung in the future.

[Q] Hard Bricked S3 i9300

After Flashing Latest CM10.1 to my S3 and using it for a while, I wanted to go back to stock. I flashed stock 4.1.2, rooted it and installed CWM successfully. After a while I noticed that CWM can not mount internal SD card, or recover a nandroid backup from it. I thought it is a partition issue, so i have decided to flash GT-I9300_mx_20120220.pit to my S3 with re-paration checked. ODIN started the process, Pass appeared with green background. Since then, the device wont start in any mode. I tried every key combination with no luck. Tried to connect the device to pc, same result; device is dead. Pulling battery also did not work.Anything I can do to turn on the device in to download mode at least? Please help me. I am from Lebanon; here all the phones are sold with no warranty, so returning it to Samsung wont solve the problem? any solution? Thank you.
This may help

Honestly?
Without the ability to send it back to Samsung, i think you may be screwed
However, there may be a person on here that has had the same issue and managed to fix it (but i doubt it) - be a bit more patient and see if anyone else comes into the thread :good:

Hope so; you gave me a small hope. where is that guy?
Contact samsung and claim wareanty because of Sleep of Death.
What you mean it's sold without warranty, that goes against consumers right.
(that's your line right there)

90% of phones in Lebanon are sold through unauthorized sellers. If you want to buy it from Samsung agent here, you will end up paying $200 more. Bought my phone for $520, while it costs around $700 from authorized seller.
Is either that or a $200 + mobo replacement.
