[Q] Hard Bricked S3 i9300 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After Flashing Latest CM10.1 to my S3 and using it for a while, I wanted to go back to stock. I flashed stock 4.1.2, rooted it and installed CWM successfully. After a while I noticed that CWM can not mount internal SD card, or recover a nandroid backup from it. I thought it is a partition issue, so i have decided to flash GT-I9300_mx_20120220.pit to my S3 with re-paration checked. ODIN started the process, Pass appeared with green background. Since then, the device wont start in any mode. I tried every key combination with no luck. Tried to connect the device to pc, same result; device is dead. Pulling battery also did not work.Anything I can do to turn on the device in to download mode at least? Please help me. I am from Lebanon; here all the phones are sold with no warranty, so returning it to Samsung wont solve the problem? any solution? Thank you.

This may help

Honestly?
Without the ability to send it back to Samsung, i think you may be screwed
However, there may be a person on here that has had the same issue and managed to fix it (but i doubt it) - be a bit more patient and see if anyone else comes into the thread :good:

Contact samsung and claim wareanty because of Sleep of Death.
What you mean it's sold without warranty, that goes against consumers right.
(that's your line right there)

90% of phones in Lebanon are sold through unauthorized sellers. If you want to buy it from Samsung agent here, you will end up paying $200 more. Bought my phone for $520, while it costs around $700 from authorized seller.

Is either that or a $200 + mobo replacement.

[Q] Hard brick!!! samsung galaxy s2

Please help! i rooted my phone and everything was fine. then i used odin to put on a rom. i followed the instructions which said to choose the re-partition option and place files for the pit, pda and phone sections, here is the rom i was using
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1207466
there was a failed message and my phone was locked in download mode. i shut it down by holding the power button and now it is in a hard bricked state. everything is black and nothing is recognised. when i plug in the charger nothing happens same with usb. ive tried all the button presses i could find volume up+home+power, volume down+home+power, volume down+home with no battery and then place battery... etc.
really nothing is working.
if there is anything i can try can you please let me know! also if there is nothing i can do and i have to take it in to my service provider then will they know what i have done?
thank you.

You flashed a I9000 ROM on an I9100 device?!
Kiss your phone goodbye unless you jtag it or send it to the service center.
You have flashed a rom for a different phone. The rom you flashed is for Galaxy S not Galaxy S II..
I have read a thread similar like this before but
for what I can remember his phone is permanently bricked. You might want to search
in the Q&A thread. This thread is for Android Development.

i don't know how i missed that. could you tell me what jtag is? is it the same as a jig?
thanks.
Yes it is totally bricked. Unless you have chance and want to try something. The USB jig to put i9000 and i9100 phone in download is the same ( Both use 151k oHms). If you try to use a jig on your phone you might be able to put it back on download mode. However, i would doubt that it work. Since you don't have the good Bootloader on your phone, i'm more like 97% sure it wont work. The black screen only is also a good sign of death. Sry to ear that. JTag is not the same thing than the jig btw. JTag is how they put the first information, at factory, on your phone. It can be used to put back the good bootloader on your phone. But if i remember well, only phone compagnie ( On this case Samsung) and a few person have what it take to make a JTag.

Thats from the creator of the i9000 ROM you just flashed.
Your phone is 100% bricked, just wondering why did you flash an i9000 ROM on a i9100 ROM, thats not only the wrong phone, but you also added a PIT files with Odin which also is not good for the i9100, and this ROM contains bootloaders.
its 100% bricked, however there is light at the end of the tunnel. A good friend of mine at Mobile Tech Videos can fix your phone 100%
hes the only guy that can do this around the world, only does it for 50 dollars, and he can guarantee fix your phone.
Just dont do this again, maybe next time flash DlevROM

I mean this guy is 100% trusted, and email him if you have questions.
hes the best bet for getting it back fast, and working.
Samsung will most likely play games, take longer, and ask you how this happened.
its your choice, but hes 100% legit, you dont have to use him Im just saying this is the best bet for saving you
Maybe if is better to send it to Samsung and let them figure it out.
If they ask what happened, just tell them that you left it on charger snd a few hours after it was dead. After all i doubt that theg can get info from inside the phone.
They will make a clean flash plus bootloaders.
That is what would i have done.

the reason why you should send it to dlev's friends shop to get it fixed instead of samsung is if samsung finds out what you did to the phone, they will probably charge you an arm and a leg for it...

[Q] Is That a Hard Brick?

Hello.
Lets make it quick.
I always used odin to flash FW's via the PDA option.
But then i found a "I9100XXLP2_I9100OXALP2_OXA" (an ICS rom, yes ) on www.sammobile.com.
Downloaded the FW and what was new for me it was in few separate files.
- GT-I9100-MULTI-CSC-OXALP2.tar
- I9100_CODE_I9100XXLP2_CL57619_REV02_user_low_ship.tar
- MODEM_I9100XXLP1_REV_02_CL1095381.tar
Since i didnt knew what to do with these exactly i've got a guide from sammobile.com as well.
like this:
http://s7.postimage.org/586eickij/tutorial.png
So i placed my files, the same
(yes i know theres no that "yellow" thingy in the first bracket)
http://s11.postimage.org/6x732wx9f/odin.jpg
pressed START and odin began to repartition.
The weird thing it took over 20mins and still nothing was going on.
so i searched about it and found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1119580
i did it. and now my phone won't even react.. black screen. cant enter download mode, nor recovery.
is it the end?
Probably. No download mode & I presume Odin doesn't recognise the phone when you hook it up to a PC ? Might as well try a jig but I'd be surprised if it worked.
Back to Samsung or a 3rd party JTAG repairer.
Is that an I9000 .pit in the screenshot? Looks like you've hosed your device with the wrong partition layout.

That's not gonna work, unless the service center is on full on retard mode
Why I say that? Because when an update goes wrong, the worst that can happen is a soft brick, and a hard brick is only achievable by either messing up a botloader flash or a repartition flash...
Could you not get away with saying you had a power cut as you were flashing the update through kies or would that not do the same sort of damage?

WELL WELL the service centre i used is on full retard mode because I've just got away with it, so unless you tried
And I've seen a bunch of people on here over the last 4 mths who haven't 'got away' with it. Ergo, if you don't return the phone to stock firmware & reset the flash counter, you're taking pot luck basically.

Nothing illegal has been done so the worst they can do is refuse to repair it and charge a small fee to cover admin & courier to return it. I don't know about Samsung but for HTC thats about £30.
What they would probably do is say thay the warranty has been invalidated and give a quote to repair it. If you didn't want it repaired then they would return it on payment of the small fee mentioned above.

[Q] HELP my Galaxy S3 is dead!

I successfully rooted my phone and successfully installed the volume hack package and the battery fox for 4.0.4 (both I found how to do on this website) and for a good few months my phone was working fine on Android 4.0.4
Then one day I was replying to a text message the phone just switched itself off and wouldn't get past the boot screen where it comes up with the Samsung Galaxy S III logo. With no one offering me any help when I've posted about this problem on this site and various others and after searching google for days to find a fix as I am a Mac user (Heimdall) with no access to a PC (Odin) at all, I took it to a local phone shop, explained the problem to see if they'd be able to fix it. They had it for 2 weeks and when I went to collect they told me that the phone ended up having to be sent to Samsung and there was nothing they could do with it. (I figured that anyway as it was rooted). Now I have got the phone back, it's in a worse state than what it was when I took it into the shop. When I try to power on the phone, nothing happens at all, it's just a black screen. I assumed the battery might be flat so when I went to plug in the charger, the battery symbol shows but it's got a circle in the middle of it it as though it's loading but nothing else happens.
Does this mean my phone is completely dead for good with no fix at all?
If it's bin fodder I may as well sell it for parts and try to get a bit of money back out of it as I bought this SIM free and it cost me quite a bit back when it first came out.
I'd appreciate it if I didn't get a load of snotty remarks as though I'm the thickest person on earth! I am fairly new to all this and it's all I ever seem to experience from this website. Please only reply if you have a genuine answer to my problem.
Thank you.

Thank you for that, I'd never heard the term SDS (Sudden Death Syndrome) before. I didn't even know it existed! But anyway since you mentioned that, I did a search, found this link http://www.freesamsungrepairs.com and I called the number, they reckon they can fix it free of charge providing there's no physical or water damage (which there isn't) and all I have to pay is the postage fees! Sounds like there maybe some hope after all!

[Q] Phone wont boot or pass samsung logo start screen

Hello ladies and gents
Woke up to a horrible morning today. Left my phone to charge as usual, then woke up to see it on the SamsunGalaxy S3 start screen, and it hangs there indefinitely. Cant boot up or do anything raly.
My heart sunk all the way to my socks! :crying:
Can only boot into download mode, however no indication that anything is downloading or happening.
The phone was rooted, however i never installed any ROMS, it was running a standard rooted 4.1 android. I believe its an international model bought from the middle-east. S3 i19300 to be exact.
Can someone pls help me out, my research so far points to it being a 'half SDS' - sudden death! the bane of all tech geeks! Not 100% sure though! However with soo many versions and roms about i'm afraid i will follow the wrong instructions.. Can you point me in the right direction.
I have Odin v1.85 from when i rooted it. My understanding is my only option is to restore stock ROM and go back to factory settings, meaning everything will be deleted right ? apps, pics, contacts..etc? is this my only option?
Im about to cry just thinking about it. but what can you do.
Any assistance will be appreciated and likly returned in kind
Thank you all
I'm soo bumbed, its not even funny. Until any of you knowledgeable capable folk help me out, ill be reading some guides to brush up

Multiple posts saying that failed usually when left on charge overnight was the first indication of what became SDS .
You need a new motherboard is the only cure .

Yes Thanks, That's what i've been reading too. but its just ridiculous, all these phones get bricked by just charging them over night!
The worst thing though is i took it to a Samsung service center and as usual the guy is a complete retard, he tells me its a software thing and that i must fix my screen (i have a cracked digitizer not a the actual screen) for them to even check the phone. All in all it can cost me 60% of the price (when i bought it) of the phone to fix...
Ill have to send it in for a checkup, but only if they agree to only fix the SDS issue under warranty.
If that doesn't work out il just go through reflashing either way...
WORST DAY EVER!

Bricked Note 3

I recently tried to install a custom ROM into the boot slot on my phone. I had installed safestrap but forgot to change Slots when I installed the new ROM. Needless to say this didn't go well. After chatting online with Samsung and not being able to fix, the tech gave me an RMA and shipping label, all paid for by Samsung. He was aware of what I had tried to do and told me they may have to charge me. My hats are off to Samsung. They fixed my phone by re-installing the original software; shipped it back to me 2nd day air; and didn't charge me anything. That is customer service like you don't find much anymore.
Thanks Again to Samsung,
I thought this might help someone else who might try to go to the provider.
what exactly was the phone doing while bricked??

A bricked phone does the same as a real brick...a paperweight. That is what the meaning of bricked is. A lot of people confuse not booting with bricked. This is either called soft-bricked or sponged (like that TV brick made of sponge). But I know you wanted to know what the OP's device was doing when he performed this procedure...just wanted to stick in the Public Service Announcement.
Just FYI to anyone else who gets 'stuck' somewhere like this and can't figure out how to fix their phone.
You can take it to best buy at the Samsung center in the middle of the store and they will do the same thing as OP, you just won't have to send it back and be without a phone. They will do it right in front of you.
So is it better to contact Samsung instead of Verizon? I also hard bricked (no power, no lights no nothing) and Verizon is sending me a replacement. Buts its a "certified like new replacement". I'd rather keep my phone if it can be fixed.
Or you can follow the tutorial I made here in the general section and fix it yourself.

That phone's a complete brick. No power, no lights, no nothing.
Tried every button combination possible including sd/sim card and charger in/out combo. No go.
Was just curious if following up with samsung for warranty made more sense than verizon. In hopes of getting a new device instead of "Certified Like New Replacement "

Good looking out here, it's definitely appreciated. I've already returned the brick to VZW for warranty replacement. However I'm sure your links will help someone else having the same problem! Cheers!
