Microphone Doesn't Work - AT&T LG Optimus G

A friend gave me this till I get a new phone but the microphone doesn't work at all he said he replaced it and it still doesn't work. Is there any other reason the mic wouldn't work or maybe he did it wrong, I was thinking of buying the mic its only $7. Also the back cover is broken

Just a update on my problem, I bought the mic and replaced it but still people can't hear me when making calls. Could there be something else causing the issue

I had an issue where my earpeice speaker an mic wouldn't work (only speakerphone, BT and headsets would work) after flashing CM 10.2 nightly. I was able to get it fixed by flashing the mako .33/.84 hybrid radio.

Is it an unlocked device, if so what network are you using it on? What firmware are you running?

If physical damage/impact, rather than a firmware change, caused the mic failure, you have a hardware problem.

Thanks, but which hardware part is problematic? the mic itself, or something else somewhere deeper in the phone?
Because the mic hardware part can be replaced with a new one, but if its something depper inside the phone's motherboard than its harder to fix it.

I dont think it is because of that.. the design is smart with led amber light behind the grill still visible to tell it is not closed with dust ??
i guess it is something to do with radio or kernal
Is your phone rooted? If so what rom? If not, there shouldn't be a problem. Hand it in for replacement is the last suggestion if you still have warranty.

yes it is rooted..
i was using stock rom for a year then rooted and put CM7.1 stable to find that GPS was not working.
got the new Radio_47.39.35.09_7.13.35.05 flashed as GPS was not working.. which fixed the gps
nw running CM7.2 RC0 KANG
but not sure whether it is because of that radio update !!
Most likely is the radio you flashed since I have no problems. But I'm not entirely sure ==

Phone calls don't work with standard earphones? Phone or ROM issue?

I'm at work and I just tried to make a call when it turned out to be too loud around me so I popped in my no-mic earphones which worked fine with my HTC sensation, I couldn't hear anything so I pulled them out and I still couldn't hear anything. No matter what I do if my earphones are plugged in the phone won't work on a phone call. Even if I start another call after that one it wouldn't work, only a reboot fixes it.
This is really disappointing as I have a no-mic tape player converter in my car. The audio would be routed through the speakers while the phone's mic would pick up my voice. So now that doesn't work.
Anybody running a ROM other than beanstalk that also has this issue? Not sure if it's the phone or beanstalk.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it is my understanding that the 'loudspeaker' is made up of both the top and bottom speakers for stereo? What I am implying is that while using the loudspeaker for music/YouTube, the speaker at the top of the handset has a weaker sound that the one at bottom. It does not carry as much bass and is noticeably quieter.
This seems odd because i dont have this issue
Is it the same in different modes, landscape/portrait

Ok I have received a replacement Z2 today and it has exactly the same issue. When playing music/videos/games, the speaker at the top is noticeably quieter and provides a lower quality sound.
Maybe this is a software problem? The two devices I have had are on 17.1.A.2.55 but I have seen in the General section there is a newer firmware than this.
Can @LotoTutu @Envious_Data and @Alex Charles confirm what version your're using? Thanks!

im on 17.1.A.2.55 too, i dont have any issues, the only issue i have ran into with my XZ2 is a random lag ever so often, but this only occours when i have 3 or more apps open,
(I Believe this is a RNGD/Entropy)
Misc info
i believe then new firmware is 17.1.A.69 which contains some minor bug fixes and stuff, im not sure about the details of it realy so i cant tell much realy
the Speaker issue we have here i cant tell if its a Firmware or Hardware, i kinda need to test some more,
ill be getting a second XZ2 so ill be able to test weather this is a HW or a Firmware issue unless someone else can conform

Best way to test is test file like this http://www.testmyspeakers.com/speaker-test.mp3 (this plays left, right then both)
Because some songs records in a way one side for base

i tried this link and my bell unit has the same issue. it is not drastic, but there is a slight difference in volume with the bottom speaker being louder. i noticed this today when listening to a podcast when i accidentally covered the bottom speaker and noticed that the sound dropped quite a bit. the difference was not as noticeable with this link though. i am on the .55 firmware, can anyone with .69 confirm that their unit works differently?

It's no bigger than the cutouts for the headphones on most cases so this should be fine to use on a phone with a case. It is in fact the same size as most headphone connectors so if a headphone fits so will this. Just an excuse to spend 24p really lol that's why I bought one, no reason to.. No reason not to. Although I do think being able to activate the flash with one click even with the phone in standby is pretty useful for me personally.

Any effect on battery life?
My G3 (D855) seems to be having issue detecting anything that I plug in the headphone jack other than the stock headphones that came with it. I tried plugging in the pressy button and a portable speaker on separate occasions but they were only detected momentarily. The button works fine on my old phone which is a galaxy note n7000 so I'm pretty sure it isn't spoilt.
Anyone has any clue about this issue? Otherwise I'll probably send my G3 for repair since it's still obviously still under warranty.
I am having issue with Pressy on g3 and my other phone so it's not the phone it's Pressy.

[Q] Stock firmware - Low in-call volume - Speaker volume working fine

My E970 (AT&T Optimus G) is on stock Android version 4.1.2 (Build Number: JZO54K and Software Version: E97020j). Everything was working fine but today morning I'm getting very low in-call volume.
Speaker volume is fine but when I get call I'm not able to hear other person voice clearly. All volume indicator are set to high.
What could have caused this low in-call volume issue all of sudden? Any way to troubleshoot?
Thanks!
Will appreciate if seniors can help.
