Do you mean the earpiece is weaker than the loudspeaker?
It is normal.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it is my understanding that the 'loudspeaker' is made up of both the top and bottom speakers for stereo? What I am implying is that while using the loudspeaker for music/YouTube, the speaker at the top of the handset has a weaker sound that the one at bottom. It does not carry as much bass and is noticeably quieter.
This seems odd because i dont have this issue
Is it the same in different modes, landscape/portrait

Ok I have received a replacement Z2 today and it has exactly the same issue. When playing music/videos/games, the speaker at the top is noticeably quieter and provides a lower quality sound.
Maybe this is a software problem? The two devices I have had are on 17.1.A.2.55 but I have seen in the General section there is a newer firmware than this.
Can @LotoTutu @Envious_Data and @Alex Charles confirm what version your're using? Thanks!

It's really noticeable, cover one speaker completely with your finger then change to the other one. It's a completely different sound!

im on 17.1.A.2.55 too, i dont have any issues, the only issue i have ran into with my XZ2 is a random lag ever so often, but this only occours when i have 3 or more apps open,
(I Believe this is a RNGD/Entropy)
Misc info
i believe then new firmware is 17.1.A.69 which contains some minor bug fixes and stuff, im not sure about the details of it realy so i cant tell much realy
the Speaker issue we have here i cant tell if its a Firmware or Hardware, i kinda need to test some more,
ill be getting a second XZ2 so ill be able to test weather this is a HW or a Firmware issue unless someone else can conform

I have the exact same problem! The top speaker is more quiet and sounds more "muffled" than the bottom speaker.
Best way to test is test file like this http://www.testmyspeakers.com/speaker-test.mp3 (this plays left, right then both)
Because some songs records in a way one side for base

i tried this link and my bell unit has the same issue. it is not drastic, but there is a slight difference in volume with the bottom speaker being louder. i noticed this today when listening to a podcast when i accidentally covered the bottom speaker and noticed that the sound dropped quite a bit. the difference was not as noticeable with this link though. i am on the .55 firmware, can anyone with .69 confirm that their unit works differently?

So if I tap the top of my screen or shake my phone I hear some sort of "tick" sound. Anyone noticed this? Is this normal or?...

It's the loose power/wake button on the right hand side. This is common in Samsung phones.

I'm actually pretty convinced it's coming from higher (somewhere near the camera). Also if I hold the button still with my finger I still hear the sound. It's pretty obvious when you tap on the screen. When you tap on the top of the screen it kinda sounds clicky while on the bottom just "normal"

Anyone else?
Damn you - hadn't noticed this and now it will bug me
I thought it might be the internal part of the headphone connector at first but more playing (and tapping) and I agree, I'm sure it's the front (earpiece) speaker cover bit.
Guess they are all like this, not something most people (me included) would notice until you try.

Yeah I just noticed it even though I already had mine for some time. It kinda bugged me. But knowing that it is normal makes me find it less irritating.
I've had this problem for the 8 months I've owned this phone. I'm actually surprised that my monthly Google searches have found few mentions of the problem.
I am not the ONLY one,
Low Audio Quality and Constant Noise in Android app for HTC One X / HTC EVO 4G LTE
http://community.skype.com/t5/Andro...-Noise-in-Android-app-for-HTC-One/td-p/833460
I've been checking back on that thread on the Skype forums, but never any answers. I just signed up to bump it tonight.
I just upgraded to Skype 3.1.0.6458 today, but apparently this has still never been solved.
Overall, the app seems much snappier, which is fantastic. However, the poor audio problems persist.

now, if you had the bastardized verizon version like i do, youd see how this is so. there's only one speaker looking grate on their version.. and its not a grate, it's 3 holes.. then the other side is 1 tiny mic hole. wish ours looked like yours though bc the asymmetric look is awful

Yes this was my first disappointment of the phone as well. I thought it were stereo speakers so the phone will play music with good loudness from the speakers. Then I played music and it came from 1 grill. I googled it and saw it had 1 speaker instead of 2. (Cheaters)

How is the overall call volume? Is it loud enough?
Why do manufacturers do these dumb things?
I wanted the loud speakers mainly for the loud ringing advantage, as I set my phone down in one corner of the house and often miss calls as I can't hear it from the other rooms.
Hopefully there's a fix.

Seriously, I don't know why every review I've read so far talks about the power front facing stereo speakers when the volume is really so poor. What's the use?
Looks more like a software glitch to me.
One more bug I find was the volume indicator which appears when you press the volume rocker doesn't seems to be moving continously the correct volume levels. Again, not sure whether it's just me alone with this bug.

Well, it depends on you, but I feel it's a software issue as I could hear loudly when I play music. So it can't be a hardware issue. It could be a matter of bug fix update from Sony to fix it.

Web tests put the M8 at 85db and the Z2 at 82db.
I don't use my phone to blare music at high volume levels.
So, randomly my vibrate just stops working randomly for the phone and then suddenly works again. I just updated my firmware and it just started happening recently. I'm assuming it's the software but any ideas what I can do?

I seem to have the same issue
I think its a hardware fault or at least with my case it is. its happened across 3 different firmwares and i have found that shaking or hitting my phone actually fixes it, this proves to me few possible
For you id recommend flashing a new firmware one more time and seeing if it shows up again, if it does then it is defiantly a hardware issue
Ill be sending my Z2 back
Details for others (about my device):
Camera lense is off centre
Gap at the top right
Gap at the bottom left
Audio jack doesent look right + very small gap
Random vibration loss

Mine did it and shaking it helped as well but idk if that's a placebo because it hasn't done it since I flashed a new kernel and rom on the phone... So there's that lol. And im with you, I love the phone more than my old phone, i realy dont want to send it back, i just want to play games @60fps but unfortionately it is a problem that is affecting the user (thats me )
ive had alot of other issues
here are some more i forgot to list
No heating with camera but majour heating just doing random tasks:
Camera apears to take photos in a very red hue
There is a Gap on the top left of the screen too
some others, too tired to think
Same problem here with the haptic feedback. It happens cuts out now and again while typing but seems to start working again on its own after a few more presses.
Not overly bothered as am very happy with the phone otherwise so won't return it to the manufacturers until it packs in completely within my warranty period.
I have got slight gaps on the screen on the bottom left and top right and maybe a slight off centre rear camera but if I hadn't known to look for these I wouldn't and don't really see them as a problem.

Yeah if I shake it it goes away but It could be voltage output that's making it worse or something, I heard the motor is actually easy to access and replace so if it comes to that I could to that possibly. I haven't factory reset it at all and I upgraded my firmware and it's worse then the one I had on stock... Odd to see so many people with this issue though.
