Yep, crapware that Samsung pushed so they could say they support enterprise.
In reality to use it you need to subscribe to one of the services that manage it.
It cannot be managed through exchange.
The majority of people don't need it .
The big issue with enterprise is email security. Touchdown provides the isolation very nicely.

It's too bad really. The Verizon S4 isn't half as fun as it could be between knox and the bootloader

So, if one is rooted, can the Knox crapware be safely removed from the phone?

I'm by no means a pro at all this stuff so maybe someone else would know for sure but I froze everything to do with Knox with TiBu

You can freeze the app stuff but they still have a flag either in a flash memory or a one time programmable memory that records when you attempt to do something unapproved with the bootloader.

So what if the knox flag is tripped? Why do I care if I am not planning on returning it for warranty? Is there a reason beyond that?

It's not the planned stuff I worry about. It's the unplanned stuff.

But is there any reason that we know of currently? Does it disable 4g? does it brick your phone? Does it prevent your phone from receiving future updates?
I must be missing something. All this hubbub can't just be about warranty.

Titanium Backup lists 4 "knox" apps:
KLMS Agent 1.0
Knox 1.0
Knox Notification Manager 1.0

Are they safe to freeze and/or uninstall?

If you have a custom Kernel you have to uninstall or delete them or you will get this weird message. I copied mine onto my sd card and my computer, uninstalled on my phone. Just as back up

I'd recommend getting an antivirus software for Android.
Sadly even mobile phones nowaday need such software regardless of OS and manufacturer.
Either avast (free) or Dr.Web Beta (also free) are excellt and additionally report such Spammer apps.

Successfully Frozen Apps

Now that we have some root access, I figured we could use this thread to report what apps we've successfully frozen/uninstalled, and using which app.
So far from using Rom Toolbox (Pro) I was able to freeze the following:
-Amazon
-Amazon Kindle
-Backup Assistant Plus
-My Verizon Mobile
-SEAndroid
-Setup Wizard
-Sync Service (backup assistant)
-Verizon Login
-Verizon Mobile Security
-Verizon Remote Diagnostics
-Verizon Tones
-Verizon Navigator
-Verizon Voicemail
-Voice Recorder
Uninstalled:
-NFL Mobile
-Audible
Cant find/figure out:
-Viewdini apk (no idea what this even is)
-VZW Mobile Hotspot apk
-Audible Re-installs itself.
Some of the apps were stubborn and needed to be frozen a couple of times for it to stick.
I have frozen via TitanBU:

You do know that the built in disable feature cannot disable every app, right? Hence one reason some of us root out phones.
Disabling app is the same thing as freezing if YOU watched the Google videos from there YouTube channel they explained it but Google is not gona use the stupid word (freeze) so they went for (disable) its exactly the same effect and does exactly the same thing nothing different at all !

I could be mistaken but i think when you don't root, there isn't ALWAYS an option to disable an app. I know on my wife's phone there are some apps she has to leave in the app drawer because when you go to disable it, the "disable" button is greyed out. You can't click it.
If you root, you can disable EVERY app, even the ones with the greyed out buttons.
But i'm sure if i'm wrong you will correct me with all caps and annoying exclamation points

If only you could disable every app... On the S3 and Note 2 there are several pre-installed Google, Samsung, and Verizon apps that can't be disabled or removed without the use of root.

All i have to say is one thing and hope this guy can comprehend .... If root is pointless to "freeze/disable" apps and only for flashing roms... then explain to us how you can disable Verizon apps without root (like VZ Backup Assistant) cause without root, the disable button is gone or grayed out.
wow...came here to see what apps people had uninstalled (instead of just freezing them) and all i got was dumber!
so...to try to salvage this thread....
what apps have you uninstalled without issue?

Suspicious app called MtkCamera

Rooted my phone using the Vroot method and did some surveying with permission manager, xPrivacy and I stumbled upon a mysterious app called MtkCamera (com.example.cameraroot). I have no recollection of ever installing this app. I find this suspicious because I use permission manager on other phones running ICS and never have to deal with this app before. Considering all the apps listed are installed from Google Play Store, I decided to restrict all permission and uninstall the app. Check out the permissions list.

I'm not convinced. Looking at the network permissions, it doesn't make sense why it would need to control network access.

Sure, but what does it do? Does it steal your contacts? Send SMS'? Log your IMEI? Log your keystrokes? Or is it nothing out of the ordinary? Who knows!
I could decompile it myself, but I have no idea what to look for, so that's a complete waste of time.

So the reason some people do not have can be simply because they do not have a TW firmware. Have a TW firmware and got it after vroot. But where would be the point for vroot to put a malicious apps on your phone when they can do anything they want while rooting your device? Maybe you should not take your phone with you on the bathroom, they may record you hahahaha.

Change network connectivity
Connect and disconnect wifi
Full network access
View network connection
View wi-fi connection
Pair with bluetooth devices
Allow wifi multicast reception
Call me paranoid, but I think this is a spying app...
this app with us from the beginning.
this is what I found -platform for the bottom and top of the camera for a detailed explanation of the process and the introduction of the frame code
that does seem suspicious.
Is the view that this root method is trustworthy?
Trying to weigh up if all is well before I root.

How to Get rid of stupid Knox notifications when using rooted apps

I was really annoyed about the stupid notification about rooted apps after rooting my GN3.
Fix? Download Titanium Backup and search for anything with 'Knox' in it. As always I backed up to SD card just in case. Deleted the apps, rebooted phone and now I don't get the stupid message anymore.
Screw Samsung Knox lol
I've seen a lot of people mentioning Knox, but mine wasn't pre installed (it is on the phone as a link to install) and I haven't gotten any notices for root or root apps yet. Lumen bar was annoying though, I got rid of that.

Not rooted yet(only cause I haven't looked how to do it yet) but I don't see anything with Knox. Agree with the Lumen bar comment.
Removing /system/app/KNOXAgent.apk should take care of the notifications.
