Failed to SIM Unlock GT-I9300 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had a GT-I9300 before and I used GalaxSim Unlocker to unlock it. It worked before.
This is my 2nd GT-I9300, but it is Made in China, not like the one before which was Made in Korea. With this one, GalaxSim Unlocker failed to unlock the phone.
I tried this program with 4.1.1 and 4.1.2. Both say that the phone is unlocked and the program did not even run its full course. When I go back to the old ALE8 ROM, this time the program did not see any IMEI number.
I also tried to use the phone service menu. I can get into the service menu, but there is nothing inside the "network lock". It says the menu does not exist.
Is the China made phone very different from the Korea made phone? I'm just curious. I've already returned the phone to the original owner.

What ROM did it come with? If it had EFS v2, there is no way to unlock it without buying an "unlock code". Galaxsim doesn't work on ROMs released since July. No apps do.

A Unicom customized phone?
I don't think that one has the network lock.

I've returned the phone, so I would not know about the EFS. The one I unlocked before was a UK O2 phone. But I do not know much about the 2nd one, just that it was made in China, not Korea.
So if GalaxSim Unlocker and phone service manual both do not work, the only way is to buy an unlock code? It appears some people are using some cables to unlock some phones.

Well, if it is sold to China, there is no network lock. So GalaxSim Unlocker is unnecessary. Do you know which country it is sold to?
Just backup the phone's EFS.

Do you have any evidence of the above re cable unlock ???

That phone was clearly locked. From the very beginning, I put in a T-Mobile SIM and the phone asked me for unlock code. After one or two day tries, I gave up. To the end, after the stock ROM restore, it still asked me for unlock code.
I do not know the history of that phone. So I do not know what country that phone was originally distributed to.

Messed up with GS3 Voodoo sim unlock...

Hi people, I have this GS3 that i tried to unlock with Voodoo sim unlock method. Problem is, i used Voodoo on the stock GS3 ClaroPR firmware. And i know ClaroPR firmwares are a pain in the arch to unlock sim with. Should have change to a non branded(carrier) firmware yeah i know. Thing is, When i flashed it to a non branded firmware the phone ask for the unlock code. Ive seen that before with other ClaroPR Galaxy phones but my question is, can i somehow fix this in order to unlock the phone? Or should i do that with a box?
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=voodoo+galaxy+s3+sim+unlock
Pretty cool, but that doesnt solve my problem. My problem is that i used Voodoo sim unlock while the phone was running on Stock(carrier brand) firmware. Those ClaroPR firmwares have some kind of security that i havent seen on any other firmwares. If you try to unlock them on those firmwares and then flash it with non branded stock the phone will have an unlock nv_data but still ask you for the pin. What i want is to get rid of that. Since the phone still shows locked network simcard.

ok here's what you need to do, use sim unlock for JB, with that app you'll be able to use another SIM, also I used JB now which makes everything easier and the sim is completely unlocked
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846451
Thanks for your help, will give it a try then. Thanks a lot!
Ummmmm, nothing. Not even that app took the sim lock out. Even when it shows that is completely unlock it still ask for the sim unlock code and shows wrong sim card. I think its a mess that was created when i tried to unlock it when it was running the ClaroPR firmware. Samsung tool is not working on my box so im in deep trouble right now lol.... Well, if anyone have some other idea it will be good for me to try a different method before just paying for a code. Or waiting for the SGTool to do the job for me.

did you update to JB or any other unbranded fw??? cause I think you have the same problem as telcel's fw, they lock the radio so you can't use any sim even though the phone is unlocked

[Q] downgrade 4.1.2 please

Bought an I9300 s3 on eBay is locked to O2
Vodafone sim
Spoke to O2 no help at all. Call 202?
Doesn't make calls.
I've got an efs backup but from the 4.1.2 current stock.
Seems this won't downgrade to 4.1.1
Odined the stock 4.1.1 no joy. Won't boot.
Cwm an old miui 4.1.1 also no boot.
Odin back to stock unbranded 4.1.2 boots fine. Rooted cwm triangle away. Fine.
Whos is this phone? Apparently not mine.
How to down grade please?
Any help gratefully appreciated.
Super wipe after flashing rom helps.
Downgrade to 4.1.1 probably won't have SDS fix so may kill your phone.
If it doesn't make calls with O2 sim then IMEI may be blocked. It won't make calls on Vodafone, because it's locked to O2.
You have to factory reset if it wont boot.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 4
So you're saying after cwm the 4.1.1 I should full wipe.
Then the business.
Then flash a safe kernel before upgrading back.
If I just odin the 4.1.2 stock back over surely the brick bug won't activate?
Flash 4.1.1, full wipe. Do your unlocking, flash 4.1.2
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 4
This went badly wrong.
Flashed stock region correct. 4.1.1
Flashed chainfire cwm root.
To allow wipe
Booted fine.
The fix as follows doesn't work as the final menu still not available.
Just dial the following keys *#197328640#Main Menu[1] UMTS*[1] Debug Screen*[8] Phone Control*[6] Network Lock*Options [3]Perso SHA256 OFF*(after choosing this option, wait about 30 seconds, then go back one step by pressing the Menu button then select Back, now you are in*[6] Network Lock then choose*[4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ ..... wait for a minute then reboot your phone
Even though I didn't execute anything as that menu option isn't there something bad happened.
I installed galaxsimunlock from the play store.
It now says invalid imei.
Glad I backed that up.
Still locked.
The saga continues
I would try an O2 sim before anything to see if the phone actually works or not .
Blocked phone are blocked via IMEI and require the blocking network to remove the block .
Report phone stolen network block IMEI get new phone sell the now blocked phone is fairly typical .
jje
If I buy an unlock code on the Web or at a store will it sort of the blocking from the network?
Don't know anyone with a micro sim on O2.
Thanks for your times
Edit.
I flashed back to 4.1.2 its ok. The baseband doesn't get replaced on downgrade and isn't understood by the older software. There is a post somewhere here about it.
This is what causes the odd error messages in that unlock app. Currently says can't read nv
Unlock code will do nothing if the IMEI is blocked, the phone is useless.
Take it to a phone store, for a small fee they will tell you if it is locked or blocked.

Are you now saying the phone is blocked ???
If so return to the seller / Ebay .
Unlock code will not remove blocked IMEI .
Usual reason for a block is phone is stolen

I agree if it turns out to be blocked I will. It was PayPal so he must be verified.
But I still don't know anyone with a micro sim. Shame they're not all the same size now.
I was just checking ahead of time. I don't want to pay £15 for a code and it not work.
I work weekends so I'll have to wait until Monday.
Thanks everyone you're being very helpful. Much appreciated.
Good news everybody!
We've got a delivery to...
- found someone with an O2 micro sim.
Works fine on O2.
Seems I'll have to go pay for a code online or in one of those seedy little shops.
Seems a shame. As I can alter my /efs backup and presumably restore it back.
If only I knew which file/s to change.
It's not the most obvious one that contains only three letters O2U
Unless galaxsimunlock doesn't restore properly.
Galaxsim unlock is fine. But you have to pay now because he removed the beta / free apk from his xda thread

I agree galaxsim unlock would be great. But as it now flashes a red bar
"Unable to read nv data"
And offers no option to unlock or pay. Cos it says in the help that it doesnt know it can unlock the phone.
I'll have to wait for an upgrade.

[FIX] Phone permanently locked, Hard lock

Introduction
I bought an AT&T LG Optimus G E970(1) on Ebay and I though it was asking my SIM code, so I put it 4 times and it got a hard lock:
"This phone is permanently locked and can not be unlocked"
I tried to find some kind of information about unlocking it but I was unsuccessful. I tryed flashing roms or restoring factory etc but nothing worked.
Even thinking was not really a hardware problem I though I can sell it for parts and buy another, because there was not any solution.
A kind of solution:
As I said I bought another E970(2) and I unlock it, in the process I make a backup of efs files and that gave me an idea.
I used the 3 files of my new unlock E970(2)
/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/m9kefs1
/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/m9kefs2
/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/m9kefs3
on the E970(1) and it bypass the hard-lock (IDK how is it made, but is not matter) working as a new cellphone clone of E970(2).
The plan was to put E970(1) hard-locked efs on the E970(2), and since it's not hard-locked, unlock the imei and put it back on the E970(1) since if you put a unlock efs imei it bypass the hard-lock but I failed (by mistake I deleted the backups of E970(1) efs).
I don't know how to change the data of those archives or generate new ones (and I don't want to upload mine because I have now 2 clones) but I guess if someone could help with that.
I hope it can help.

Have you tried to do all that process without the SIM card? I'm guessing that is the SIM card that is locked. No? Too easy? xD
I don't get what do you mean, can you explain?
When you put any SIM card the phone will ask about the SIM PIN number, but after that it will ask the network unlock code, and if you fail X times it became permanently -hard- locked.
Even if you change the SIM, you have not any chance to unlock the phone (carrier free) anymore. No PUK etc.
You can check it with 2945#*970# >network lock.
Everytime you put a new SIM, the phone will reboot, reset the phone or flash it don't affect the hard-lock.
I made the process of restore EFS with and without the SIM card inside, but I didn't see any difference. (I don't know why would be any difference)
Anyway entering an unlocked IMEI works but I not sure if this restores the previous hard-lock state or simply bypasses it (Maybe the lock was not software but a kind of chip).

Seems like you don't know what the problem is. Did you read the threads I put above?
No, you can not solve it by just install a ROM, and LGNPST do not remove the lock (maybe data is in a hidden partition or maybe is hardware thing, kind of chip, IDK).
Once again, I'm not asking for help but saying how I managed to fix it. Since there was not any other solution.

I'm sorry because I can't provide my own files, but I hope somebody do it or... if you can get another phone you can simply copy those files.

Dear All,
MyLG Optimus E970 was factory unlocked and i bought it (in factory unlocked state) from US Ebay. I live in India. I was using it with India Airtel network without any constraint for past 2 months. Suddenly due to some messing up with its EFS or whatever (i dont know what i messed), it became hard-locked. Now, i cannot even unlock it by any purchased unlock code, since device shows message "This device is permanently blocked and cannot be unlocked". I tried Nexus conversion also, i converted successfully but of no use. The device is still hard-locked. Hence, i converted back to Optimus E970.
Now, i want guidance from all of you that what can i do to unlock it? Is there any way for me? or cell is waste piece? pls help....i have heard about Octopus box tool which can repair such case. But i am not able to find a single mobile shop here in Delhi India where i can get such repair person with Octopus Box. pls suggest what be solution to the mess that i have created for myself.....Any inputs will be appreciated.
btw, i tried restoring EFS etc, but of no use.

[Q] Unlocking an s3 on UK orange

Hi there, this is my first post on this forum so I apologize if this is in the wrong place. I have recently purchased an s3 (GT-I9300) used, on orange network. When the phone boots, the orange network logo is displayed. I rooted the phone using CF-Auto-Root-m0-m0xx-gti9300 using odin , and i have checked, and it is succesfully rooted. This was my first root on a phone, and seemed to go well. I have not installed anything else using odin. Then I went about to unlock the phone, getting numerous unlocking apps (ariza patch, galaxsim unlock, galaxy S unlock, voodoo s3 unlock) but they all do nothing, saying they have unlocked it but my talkmobile micro sim (which runs off vodaphones network) will not work in the phone, it just asks me for a network key, then says emrgency calls only, and if i try to dial anything, says 'not registered on network'. I have not tried another sim in it yet as that was the only microsim I had.
My question is, can I unlock this phone in any other way, like would taking it to a market stall unlocker, or buying a code from the internet do the trick? and also, will I be able to install custom roms on this phone safely? Im not sure if the orange bootloader affects this in any way. Thankyou for reading, any help would be greatly appreciated

Read this thread all the way through same problem as you >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/i9300-network-unlock-firmware-version-4-t2612736n << ( it will explain things more clearly ) and look at the last two comments it as a link to a paid solution

Very Specific Question about GT - i9300 (S3). Expert advice please.

Hi all,
I have a UK GT - i 9300 locked to Orange and i have just been signed up to EE.
EE claim the phone is already unlocked.....it isn't. They failed to provide a SIM unlock code, so i went to a third party (computer shop) to get the code. They provided an unlock code, and an unfreeze code. They don't work. It just says "registration code unsuccessful" or something similar when i try to put it in upon booting up the device. The guy at the shop is now at a loose end and is happy to refund the unlock code fee, but says he cannot unlock the phone.
I have tried the codes that start with #1972.... to enter the hidden menus, i actually had to enter #0011# i think....regardless, that didn't work as under network options (or whatever it was called) i have no option to tell the phone to allow other sims.
I mention all of this because please believe me when i tell you there is not a simple solution to unlocking this phone....i have read pages and pages of forum advice and nothing works.
My very specific question is; can i root this network locked GT i9300 (UK version) which is currently running on 4.3....or not? It is the only possible solution i can see to save this phone from becoming a paperweight.
I can promise you that hours upon hours of research has not got me a sensible, definitive answer to this question.
Thanks guys. Much appreciated.
Paul
It doesn't matter if the phone is SIM-unlocked or not when you root it. If i can find a stock ROM for the i9300, or if it is 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 with the old bootloader, it is unlockable for free. http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help-i9305/guide-sim-unlock-i9305-t3267901 this is the thread, tell me if you want me to find a stock ROM and i will try to make it zip-flashable.

Thank you for your reply.
Unfortunately after nobody responded yesterday i decided to flash the phone back to an Orange UK version of 4.0.4 and see if the Galaxsim unlock program worked from there. It has now given my phone the generic IMEI number 004999010640000 and Galasim is just saying "UNABLE TO READ NV DATA"
I've tried the method of changing the nv data bin files, and it doesn't work.
I have no backup of my original efs folder.
The bottom line here is that i have been going round in circles with this pile of sh1t service from Orange and EE, and codes that don't work for over a month now. I mean no offence by asking this bluntly, but can someone just give me a simple yes or no answer as to whether i need to buy a new phone or not?
It seems everyone has a theory on how to unlock this phone, and none of those theories actually work.
Currently phone is sat on
Android version - 4.0.4,
Product code - GT-I9300RWDORA
Original Product Code - ORA
IMEI NUMBER - 004999010640000/01
Sim Operator - EE(23433)
Registered Operator - @[email protected]
OS version - 4.0.4 (15)
Baseband - i9300BVLE4
Bootloader - I9300XXUGNB5
Patform - exynos4
LOCKED TO ORANGE.
Some simple instructions on how to fix this, or an honest answer as to if it is even possible would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks
