Soft Bricked(How do i Reinstall my OS without using odin?) - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
My galaxy s2 is soft bricked it is stuck on the samsung logo when i switch it on . i am able to go into recovery and downloading mode . but i cant reinstall via odin because my USB port doesn;t connect with my PC. so the only way i'll be able to install a Rom or OS is via recovery mode from my SD card. Does anyone have the link for the Rom Or OS i can use? please
Also i used jelly bean 4.1.2
and i am rooted.

Uh get a SDcard reader to download a ROM into a external SDcard then install the ROM from that SDcard??

Hi mate,
I have had the same problem.Your USB port doesn't work because it's bent. So get a toothpick or needle, get the battery out and bend your usb port a bit down (you should have ratio 2:1 of space between usb connection to usb port)

hi
i doubt that is the problem because it charges my phone when i connect my phone with my PC. My MTP Application must be corrupted or something.

If it doesn't connect you even on it might be a usb problem http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15924419&postcount=13
I have had the same, phone wouldn't boot at all as it was stuck on boot menu (it assumed that was connected to usb)
But if it persist, and it's MTP, just try safemode of you PC operating system (i assume it's windows) and install the driver from here
http://www.modaco.com/topic/361286-...ver-for-mobile-phones-15270-drivers-win-87xp/

go into recovery and format/mount and mount usb storage and connect your pc ;p
if it didn't work... try with a other usb???

other USB cables don't work either and this is a original samsung data cable. it works with other devices i have tested it many times

There used to be a bunch of CWM flashable stock roms in a thread in the General section. I don't think there'd be anything 'recent' firmware-wise (probably ICS/early JB, you never know though), but the name of the game is to get your phone working so that doesn't matter. Do an XDA/Google search (sorry, don't have a link).

Firstly your phone rooted?
If you are not able to connect to pc then make sure you have usb drivers installed on your pc.
If rooted then pls do a new zip install and bring your phone to working status

If you can find that thread for firmware zips that @MistahBungle mentioned, you won't need to worry about gapps as it will be included in the zip.

its a unofficial build, and the developer said to only flash the Slim_minimal_gapps.4.3.build.2 so just use that one it comes with:
Google Play (of cours)
Youtube (You may get pixelated video, but it is not the gapps or rom problem, its because google)
Google Music

Little question about CM10

Hello Guys ,
i just would like to ask you that if I installed cm 10 can I go back to stock ics
or i can't because downgrade might damage my device.
Thanks & Best Wishes
You can go back anytime you want. Take a Nandroid backup before you flash. Good luck!
And if you don't have nandroid backup you can always download the stock firmware from sammobile .com and flash via Odin
I've done this successfully to fix some issues I was having. :good:

Yes windows explorer and in MY Computer. Also will not connect to Kies.
Just to cover the obvious, did you go into SETTINGS > STORAGE and click the 3 dots at the top right corner of the screen which will show "USB computer connection". Click that and then check the box for "Media device (MTP)". Then try connecting your tablet to the computer.

Are you sure your friend didn't delete the rom after installing it on your device? Installing a rom should not delete the file from your computer since that whole operation takes place on the tablet unless you push it from the computer. Did your friend flash the rom in recovery or do something different?
Re: the Kies issue, this has come up in many threads before. You can try reinstalling Kies to see if its a bad USB driver. Some ppl have said tho that you need to revert to stock in order for Kies to recognize the device...it might take even that. If you're willing to start fresh and flash stock firmware to find out that is a choice you can make

[Q] ruined my Galaxy s2

hey guys,
I tried to install a custom Rom with odin, and I kinda ****ed up my phone.
and for one reason or another the usb connector in my mobile isn't working anymore, but luckily I can still use CWM
So, now I want to know how I get my phone back to factory settings, I also rooted it,

if you haven't noticed yet, I am a complete noob who needs to learn alot!
so, now is my question:
How do I get my phone back to normal without using a USB cable (without purchasing any soft- or hardware)
Hope you guys can help me,

[Q] Install a custom recovery without PC and root

Hello everyone,
I tryed multiple time to flash my phone (original ROM) with Odin and other software. Every time the connection cannot be established. I have tried with different computers and different cables, including the original one. I came to the conclusion that Micro USB connector in my phone is broken. I can still recharge but data transfer is not possible.
I have an SD card where i can put a ROM in order to update my phone. But if i'm correct that isn't possible if I don't have ClockworkMod Recovery.
So finaly my question: Is it possible to root install a custom recovery without a cable and without root?
So in oder words: If it's not rooted and i have the Stocked recovery I can't do anything without the usb connector.

I would like both. But at this moment I have no USB connector (broken). So I have some kind of a boostrap issue.
Without root no flashing from device
Without custom recovery no root and no other rom.
You need to look for a custom recovery that can be flashed using the update.zip facility in stock. I'm not aware of one but happy searching.

Then you have to flash a "CF-root.tar" file with odin. Then your stock kernel will be rooted, su will be installed and also a custom recovery.
In most cases it will be CWM..... ..... Happy Flashing

But there could or is the possibility to root phones with an "odin root apk" .But i think one should not do it in this way
cause you could break your device....The download mode with an odin program and an USB connection to your phone
is the only way.
Same problem.

Booting a bricked SGS2 that has broken volume button to recovery

Hi guys, I've started using a SGS2 but it has broken volume button. I install TWRP and flash RR built by @linusdan. Then I install substratrum theme and swiftblack theme. Then I was too lazy to uninstall the theme via the app and I flashed the rescue package in my phone's internal memory and it's bootloop, I've already tried adb, I typed "adb reboot recovery" and it just stuck like that.By the way, my SGS2 also have a problem with the usb port, when I plug in to charge, it know that I'm charging but the battery won't get anymore precent, I tried with another usb board but it doesn't work and when I plug it to my pc, I have to put its screen head down so the PC can detect it. Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance

I did bougat another device, a nokia1 and a note 8 but both of them don't have roms or anything I can play with, the s2 has plenty of roms. I can't live without installing custom roms and tweaks. I have an idea, I can wipe the data with adb, do you know how to wipe system with adb? As without os, the phone will be forced to boot into recovery.

Don't mind the post i posted before, I fixed the usb, it was a problem with the cable, I replaced the cable and every command in adb works, except adb reboot and adb reboot recovery. By some how, i typed ""adb shell" and then "recovery", I bring me to the PhilZ recovery and said : Powered by dorimanX kernel and I can't see any menu like wipe or anything. Do you have any idea?
Almost forgot, I wiped system with erase_image but it still won't boot to TWRP. And the PhilZ of the DorimanX kernel is a post recovery, I figured it out about that by somehow
Update: I tried to format kernel partition to see if it can force the phone boot to TWRP. After formatying, it still won't bring me to TWRP. Then I tried samsung 300k tool but phone no longer be detected by the pc. I tried to make my own usb jig without resistor as I couldn't find any resistor by using paper but no luck. I've found some good deal on the internet, I've ordered a pack that include 100 100k ohms for half a buck. I also ordered a usb jig from china for 2 bucks but it'll arrive after 1 month.

So, after a few days, I made a usb jig same as how he made in the video but it doesn't work. I've done some research, and found a thread, it only work for GB bootloader but mine has ICS bootloader. Now,I'm trying to find a vulome button to replace. It's so hard to find replacement for this phone. BTW, thanks for helping me.
I've got some updates. The volume button never arrive. Then by some how, When I plugged my phone to charge, it started to boot into recovery and I reinstalled the ROM. Problem solved.
So after solving my problem, I decided to install stock ROM. I used the JIG and booted to DL Mode and install Stock rom you provided in the post. Then I realize that I can't reboot to recovery anymore. I tried some apps and it just reboot. I found that I need hardware button, so... do you have any idea ?

Hi, you now have the official android 4.1.2 installed!
1. Make root permissions - [ROOT] Framaroot, a one-click apk to root some devices
2. Set the - Shutdown Menu (ROOT)
And through the application of restart in the recovery, it's all simple.
3. You can install - [ROOT] Mobile ODIN v4.20
Good luck ...

Thank you very much, I'm back on LOS 14.1 now . But I can't mount my sdcard since I installed stock rom. I can't format it because I have lots of data inside and i still can mount it in other phones
So, I'm back on LOS 14.1, I also found a tip to install LOS 14.1 without getting the triagle, you can use the JIG to remove triagle but I found this one can help you not getting the triagle. As my phone's volume button is broken, I got myself a usb JIG to reboot to Download Mode. I install stock ROM(JB) with odin the I found that I couldn't install anything alse with odin. I decided to root my SGS2 with framaroot , then I installed mobile odin lite and FlashKernel. I downloaded the files from your help thread and flashed the IP kernel + CWM by using the mobile odin. Then I flashed files and Installed LOS 14.1. After a few hours using, I found that the triagle is gone.
BTW, can you share this post by quoting it to your help thread? That will help lots of people
