I have a real physical job(cable guy) and theres plenty of times where I fumble my phone from the holster or need to take a quick pic or need quick access to the S pen,I felt like modding my defender holster with my dremil for easy access for the camera lense,S pen,and using it as a kick stand..( lol.I need to replace my bit)

Yea my bit is dull, as you cut into plastic theres a small portion that bubbled up, so I switched to the sander bit to smoothen it out but when you sand plastic it changes from the original color..no biggie for me just a holster thays gonna be under my shirt or tool belt.

I have always done this since my first Defender on the iphone4. It just pops right out.
As for the mod in the OP it's a good idea but yes I'd recommend cutting only the area where the camera and pen are. You can practice with an 1/8" drill bit on a Dremel at mid speed. Go slow and don't use too fast a spindle speed or the plastic will melt. Even if it does ball up a bit it's easy to remove. Once you drill the initial hole closer to the middle of your target area you can cut your way to the outlined area with ease. When a more specialized cutting device isn't available, this works great. This is the principle that the Rotozip uses.

I have one...
I did not remove the screen protector. Instead I removed my ZAGG IS. I like the built in one. However removing the plastic one is not hard at all. Its just glued in place.
Wasn't worried about the ease of removing so much as the feel...its kinda springy if u know what I mean ...its starting to annoy me some lol

I bought mine on Saturday but I am taking it back because of the built-in screen protector.
Not only does it not sit flush with the glass (which is why it's "springy") but it distorts the quality of the screen horribly.
Getting my money back and sticking with my Diztronic TPU
Wow I removed it because it was too springy and it feels way better with my ghost armor screen protector!

I don't think Otterbox took into account the weirdly concaved screen. I agree with the feel of it, spongy. But i also don't like how the sides are squared off, as opposed to more rounded on the previous versions I've used on other devices. The accessory plugs are hard to open and close. If you take the silicon cover off, you notice there's no grab rail for the silicon in the corners. Its hard to lock into the holster. Feels unnatural when taking it out if the holster and I've used a defender for over a year previous.
I'm OK with all the feeling because I was using a commuter it seems much like the commuter to me...

On every device I have ever had a defender series I just cut away the plastic shield it sucks one I do that I toss on my own screen protector and enjoy!

I just got my defender today.I like it feels fine had the commuter before this one the commuter does feel more rigid but I like not having to worry on screen. The holster does look odd will have time to test that tomorrow
Keep in mind that there are two different varieties of the defender floating around for the s3 it seems.

Did you purchase directly from Otterbox? I purchased at local att store. After4 days, no better. Thinking of calling Otterbox and complaining.
Deleted.
I bought from AT&T but now outs returnd the screen was grainy may be that's what was meant by springy... I bought back a commuter but don't want to deal with adhesive protector yet want to have a protected screen

I've always made due with compressed air. Cyber Clean is pretty neat if you want to get into those hard-to-reach areas.
I'm kind of compulsive about keeping stuff clean, so I usually use those methods, and I often apply hand sanitizer to the screen and back cover for good measure.
If you've got the sand in some very hard to reach area, shaking the phone gently with the compressed air aimed at it might help.

You can clean that bezel on the front of the phone with the corner of a piece of paper.

I've got the otterbox commuter, it's good protection without being to massive.
I went with the Defender case. I removed the screen from the case and installed one of the Xtreme guard screens on the phone and am very happy with the look and feel of the phone. It may seem like a bit much, but after breaking my first phone in under 8 hrs - this was the best fit for me

Diztronic TPU. I cannot speak highly enough of this case. Cheap, sturdy, doesn't add too much weight/size and, as a bonus, it looks great.

Volume buttons work great, power is stiff as hell. Thinking about cutting the top to have direct access to the power button.

That's odd. I have a mucheasier time pressing the buttons with the case on rather than naked. I am loving my commuter. I don't exactly care for the way the screen protector is smaller than the face of the phone, but i guess that is about the only way to do it with the curved edges. I can honestly say that I hate the curved edges after trying 2 other screen protects and they will not stick.
I went with just the 3 pack of cheap screen protectors -- they do the job and you can easily replace them, and a flexible silicone case (the thin ones) because they absorb impact better than a hard case. It keeps the phone low profile and protected.

I will probably stick it out with the diztronic then. I figured that it might have been improved but it doesn't sound like it. Thanks.
Actually ordered the diztronic. Otterbox looks nice but kinda salty fir my taste at least right now.

One thing I quickly discovered about Diztronic is that the opening around headphone port is pretty small. The chord I use in my car doesn't fit but smaller headphone and computer speaker jacks do. I will try my full-size headphones today at the office.
This case looks pretty cool. If someone has it, let me know how much bulk it adds to the phone. Looks like it adds quite a bit.

I like the styling of the case more than the "envelope" design on the back of the Otterbox cases. But I don't like the fact that these are only renders of the cases. Show us some actual pictures.
I just got the case, and I actually like it, I normally don't like cases but it seems to feel good on the phone. I posted a few pics of it. The one downfall is that it covers the back notification LED.

the side rubber indents make it grip when holding it, also the middle is recessed but it helps with gripping it, I tend to drop my phone often but havent yet with this one. (had it since day one 11/21) it feels really good, very solid.

Is the inside layer real flexible at all? I've got a skinomi screen protector on and it's too thick for the diztronic case I have. Gonna need a case that can fit over the edges of the screen protector. Thanks for the pics. Beautiful case.

Yes, the outer rim of it is flexible. so it will do just that
Maybe it's just me... But I found most cases to be very slippery on the sides. One week now and no problems.... Solution 3m anti sIip tape transparent. You can see from the side shot almost impossible to see the tape. Give great grip and adds no bulk etc.... If I had the nerve I would use it on the bare phone. It sticks on all the classes I have and does not collect dust.

I have this case and it's beautiful, thin and not slippery. Quicksand Case - Note 3
I got mine for $3 shipped and it's got a bit of bend to it so that it's durable. I highly recommend as a backup or even daily driver if you're into thin cases.

I have used this method on my s3 aluminum bumpers and it worked awesome but i used black floor traction tape cut into thin pieces to go around the edges
I'm just wondering, will the 3M tape leave a sticky residue if it is taken off?
