Fix My GSIII - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there,
So I got me a second hand s 3 and its great condition! Although there's a problem... Something's broken between the micro USB port and the mother board because it won't charge. Hopefully its the problem because I got the port replaced but nothing... Is anyone aware of any other fix? I have currently purchased a battery charger so hopefully that works but it will get annoying fast ! Thanks

Try flashing a fresh stock rom, if that doesn't work then probably charging IC has failed.
Some service centre can replace the IC, others will only be able to replace the motherboard.

Did you buy it new? If so it should still be under warranty so just send it in for repair, because it sounds like a bad sync/charge connector.
BTW confirming that you're getting your charge reading from
Start, Settings, System, Power and not relying on the charge light, Right!

Hope that helps
got fixed!!!!
guys,
after being in the dilemma to short the FO ,
i finally took to the mobile repair centre,,
over there the open the xda and checked every circuit via multimetre and
found that both the FO and other ic are working fine,,
so finally the problem was that there had been some carbon deposits over the jack from
where it charges,,,
got fixed and now its charging perfectly fine.
bye

the issue is with ur micro USB charger port ma8
use a dry toothbrush to thorough clean it and then see
Install battery status from Play Store
If battery health says : over voltage
Thats mean your motherboard is damaged and , if you still under warrenty SAMSUNG will replace your device with a new one

And if your not under warranty and cleaning the micro usb with a toothbrush and alcohol doesn't work then order a new micro usb from ebay and replace it yourself, it costs about 8-9 dollars. There is a video on youtube and should take you about 20mins to change. DO NOT TRY IT IF YOU ARE CLUMSY, you could break your phone
I did that and got my phone working, although the phone is still under warranty but i couldn't be with out my phone for 3 weeks. However the new micro usb came 4 weeks xD Been using the new one for over 6 months now and so far no problems.

Phone doesn't charge the battery - scratched PCB

Hi! At first I wanted to say I didnt find any other thread which could solve my problem.
My battery stats doesnt work correctly. I mean, instead of battery status on my display I can see just a question mark.
But before everything I opened the phone to get to PCB and i scratched it near the antenna pins. Now I cant even charge my battery. It seems that the usb connecter doesnt work at all. However I dont think I broke the usb connecter when I opened my phone.
Do you know what could be the problem? Any advice?
Thank you!

If it is a hardware issue, why don't you take it to the repair services?

[Q] s3 charging issues

Hi I bought s3 5 months back and now im facing the slow charging issues.and at one point the phone wont charge at all.. blowing cleaning also didn't work.. I took it to the service centre. They first replaced the port and it didn't work. Later that day they told its mother board problem. They couldn't explain why. And couldn't tell whether wireless charger would fix this issue. If anyone could help me how to check hardware failure I could check myself and tell me if wireless charger would work nw??
I faced the same problem and the cause was my usb cable
Replace port failed and presuming a service centre would have a decent cable you need a new motherboard .
No way of knowing what has failed without removing the motherboard and testing each component end result you still need a new motherboard .

did you try other cables like htc one's or blackberry's? because i too had the same problem for the 1st cable and used blackberry's. now again the second cable provided by samsung service center isn't working after few days. so now using htc cable.

Yeah its the usb cable, samsung ones are rubbish, mine got to a point where it would charge 1 percent an hour, tried my brothers galaxy ace 2 charger which is all in one and charges from empty to full in about a hour and a half without affecting battery life

You can take the battery out and use the universal charger.

[Q] Galaxy S3 (i9300) won't charge

So I got this strange problem where my phone stopped charging. I tried diffrent cables, adapters, charging it while being off, charging it via the computer and even tried to adjust the little lip in the micro usb port. Is the charging board dead? If it is, will a replacement be expensive?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Free mobile app
Well dude I think your assumption is right.
It might be the charging circuit only which may be dead.
Because as you told that you have tried diffrent cabels and chargers but still your charging is not working which means that the usb micro port through which we charge and connect our phone to computer is damaged and should be replaced .
There are many possible reason of damaging usb port like you may have drop your phone or by using faulty cabels and chargers or if u have rooted your phone then there is possibility of changing the voltage of current to more than 1000 Mhz etc etc.
You should try to flashed a complete stock rom by downloading from sammobile or directly using kies to update or re-flash your phone
you can try that may it may help you.

Nah, it won't turn on because the battery is empty.. I don't have a spare so it seems buying a new board is my only hope..
I saw there are loads of micro usb connectors on ebay. If I solder a new one on. Might that help?

You can try micro usb port which is available on ebay but it would be extremely very dangerous until and unless you know what you are doing.
My suggestion is to give your phone to the samsung care and tell then to repair it.
If your phone is in warranty then they will do it for free. You just need to provide them a copy of bill at the time you purchased s3.
Press THANKS if I helped you
