Hello,
I had a discussion today about quad core on Android.
AFAIK, Android "recently" (4.1.x and above) got dual core support. So even if you have a quad core, Android cannot really use all of them efficiently: They would just load of to cores but really wouldnt run one thread of a app to one and another thread to another. And this is Android: Apps must be written for multi core else, again, they will not use it efficientlly.
This is with dual cores so Im thinking that with quad cores nothing is really done and its just a waste of battery.
Could you please give me more information on this?
Thank you
Ummm...No
Where did you read that Android "recently" got dual core support ? Proper multi-core support was added in Android 3.0 (Honeycomb).

I read this article
Not even Qualcomm thinks dual-core is working out yet
According to that Ice Cream Sandwich is expected to fully support Dual core so those dual core phones really doesn't give the dual core performance?
there IS a noticeable difference on the dual core phones for multi threaded apps, but those are few and far between. so for now, buying a dual core phone is like buying a 4g phone, youre future proofed against the changes, but nothing for now...
Yes that's true ^^
Now we don't need dual-core for the phone but this is useful for the future
I believe by the time the next generation of dual core possibly quad devices are released end of this year beginning of next, the software should be able to take advantage of the hard ware, lets just hope that batteries tech has come on enough to be able to support them

Hi hi hi,
I remember back when ICS wasn't out, it was said that dual-core phones weren't able to fulfill their full potential, because the OS (e.g. 2.3.6) only supported single core.
My question is about the new quad-core phones that are coming out. Does ICS support quad-core? If not, will they function as dual-core, or will they be faster? How much faster?
This is an important issue to take into concideration when thinking about buying a new phone..
Thanks!

I am not deep enough in android code to say whether android itself is capable of exploiting multicores cpus, but I can say two things that I saw myself.
#1 there are already apps for video playing that allow you to set how many cores they must use to reproduce full HD videos.
#2 if you run a chrooted Ubuntu with a single core, a dual core and a quad you'll notice a huge improvement in performance.
IMHO multicores are useful for videodecoding and heavy multitasking. On the other side, the performance gap between single and multicores cpus is not very significant when running a single application. It may depend a lot on how apps themselves are written and if they actually use the cores, more than on gingerbread or ics.
Hi every body,
I'm looking for an answer that I've the opportunity to buy the S3 quadcore international version or the dualcore LTE version.
Which one have the best benchmark ?
Which one have the less battery drain ?
I'm french ... so does the LTE version be compatible with french 3G+ ?
Thank for your answer
If you mean hspa+ for 3g+, i think it should work. I'd take the dual core over the quad core, as it is based on a newer architecture and android is not even optimized for dual core properly, let alone quad core. The snapdragon s4 beats the exynos in core to core performance. It should also fair better in battery as well, but may fall a bit short in benchmarks.

Hi guys.
I was advised to come here by a Hardforum user with my issue.
I have searched, and searched, google and forums (this one inculded) but can't find anywhere product or problem specific with the issues i have.
(first, i just need to say, the NOOB video on sign up is freaking HILARIOUS. Every forum needs one of those!)
Long shot in the dark here.
My friend has a Flytouch 9 (superpad) Pretty decent tablet for the money. Only thing is, he said he tried to root it (im not an android guy)
It now doesn't turn on at all. it's dead. totally un-responsive. He said (apparantly) that the software doesn't know what the hardware is (if that makes sense, something to do with the kernel)
He said if i can get it back up and running, i can have it. But, that doesn't seem likely so i'm shouting out for help! lol. Any ideas?
Here are the specs i can find.
CPU: RK3066 Dual Core ARM Cortex-A9 1.6GHz + 4 GPU
Android OS: Android 4.1.1 Jellybean
4 Core Mali-400 MP GPU
DDR 1G DDR3
16 gb NAND Flash.
Thanks in advance.
Hello, i am wondering if it's possible to modify it ? when installing/upgrading an app it use 100% of one of the a53 cores rather than one powerful a72 so it take forever to install.
it act like that on all phones with this soc or it depend of the kernel settings by the manufacturer ?
thanks you
