WE HAVE A WINNER! CONGRATULATIONS ZARBOZ!
You can find the rom here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50271902
4.4 GPE Rom Bounty
Challenge: Bounty to the first developer able to port the GPE HTC One 4.4 rom (being released shortly) to the Droid DNA, for both Verizon and GSM and make them stable (all functions of GPE rom working as expected...no major crashing, daily-driver worthy etc). There's at least 1 developer looking to take on the challenge. First to succeed wins.
Why?: Unfortunately NewToRoot, original GPE Rom developer, had to stop development of the rom (best of luck NewToRoot), so we need another dev to pick it up

HOW BOUNTY IS DECIDED AND AWARDED: A developer can release his/her/their rom at any point in time (even before they feel it is complete...just like in most rom development processes). It will not be voted on right away, so there is no risk to this. This will allow the developer to get testing feedback and make adjustments. They should start a new thread for their rom just as any new rom development would. It is recommended that they make a post in this thread mentioning the release and provide a link to the thread, so that everyone is aware and can test. Once a developer feels his/her rom has met the requirements and could possibly win (or 3 or more pledgees feel so), he/she/they should make a post in this thread saying so (a developer has 48 hours to override a nomination by pledgees by PM'ing me or replying to this thread, if they want to delay the vote). At that point, all pledgees will be asked to vote if they feel the bounty should be awarded (pledgees will be notified of a voting via private message and a post with their username mentioned). Pledgees can vote by responding in this thread or by private messaging me if they would like to keep their vote private. If after 1 week (168 hours), 75% or more of the pledgees that voted say the developer was successful, the bounty will be awarded and ALL pledgees (even those who voted "no" or those who didn't vote at all) should submit payment via paypal to the address the developer provides (or privately arrange a different form of payment with the developer). To get a vote, you have to pledge, so it's just another reason to contribute. Any pledgee that voted no will be asked for feedback as to why and this will be submitted to the developer. If the rom didn't win and the bounty is still open, the developer can make adjustments and resubmit (and again it won't come up for a vote until the developer requests it or he gets nominated by 3 pledgees).
NOTE: If more than 1 rom is up for voting at the time, all roms will be allowed their full week of voting before a winner is decided. Pledgees may vote for any rom in contention at this time (even if the rom's 1 week has passed). Pledgees may change their vote at any time during this period and may vote yes for more than 1 rom. If more than 1 rom has 75% or more of the votes, then the winner will be determined by highest number of "yes" votes. If there is a tie it will be determined by highest % of "yes" votes (of the roms that tied). If there is still a tie, there will be a run off vote where pledgees must vote for which rom (from the tie) they believe should get the bounty, and the rom with the most votes will win. Finally if there is a tie in that, then the roms that tie will split the bounty.
PITCH:
Come on people...Whatever you got $5, $10, $20, $30, $50. No amount is too small (unless it's under $5...that's too small ) It's a great way to award developers and help contribute to the community.
HOW:
Just reply to this thread to the amount you are willing to contribute if a developer can pull this off. You don't pay now...only if they succeed.
Thanks to all contributors and developers up for taking on the challenge! :good:
DISCLAIMER: All contributors are responsible for their own pledges. If anyone fails to pay or backs out or can't be found, I'm not responsible. Also I am not responsible for any damage that may occur to a phone during this process, nor can I be held liable for any liability, harm, injustice, damage, claim. etc, that may occur in this process. If you install one of the roms, consider your warranty void and I am not responsible for any damage that may occur as a result. You are doing this at your own risk. Additionally, the $500 goal is just a goal, nothing more. The only potential reward in the end is what's pledged, be it higher or smaller than the goal. Finally, these terms may be clarified from time to time by me to remove confusion and address situations that haven't yet been addressed, so it is recommended to review these on a frequent basis and PM me if you have any objections or questions.

Still waiting for the Google Play Edition HTC One to receive the update to 4.4. Once that is released, we'll have something to work off of. HTC/Google said on the 31st it would be within 15 days.. which would mean in the next two if that milestone is to be believed:

This right here is one miniscule reason why I will always appreciate Android so much more than iOS.
just for clarification sake, you guys might want to clarify what qualifies a rom as "stable" for the sake of the bounty
ie, what features *must* be working to be considered stable? bt, data, calls, messaging, and so on
because otherwise what might be considered stable to one person, might not be to another and you could have a messy issue with a dev trying to collect the bounty with some of those pledging not considering their release to be stable

However, it's ending up in one day. Would we be able to collect 500 dollars in one day???

I'd do $25, then another $25 upon completion. Problem Is we would need to raise enough money for whichever Developer to buy a Jetstream to build with.
i know. i'm hoping one of the dev's already owning the jetstream (i think there's one or two other than task650) will keep it up..
if not - maybe we could get enough money to buy one..they are cheaper than they used to be

I brought it up to Newtoroot from mikmik, he said for it to be done he'd need the device. He's done amazing work over the years, recently he recoded the ril from the one x to bring sense 4 ICS for the the reZound.
i think there's an opportunity here.
if we could get enough money, and one of the members here would like to sell his device, maybe we can buy a device for development.
meanwhile we must wait for the bounty to grow..

Yes. Agreed. Please guys pool in. Even if we don't get a member to sell the device, I think a new one would be like $550 or something with contract. Let's see. Hopefully Russ's contact also comes through. He will post details himself once any news available.

I would consider selling mine at a discount to a developer or trade for a thinkpad. Otherwise I would be willing to contribute to the bounty. IDK, it depends if anyone really thinks they can do it, but I've lost faith in HTC and hope in XDA.

I've got a little bit of experience with compiling Cyanogen. Work is crazy-busy for me lately, so I'm not sure when I'll have time to work on it, but I will do whatever I can to get this working.
I'm not much of a developer, so any help I can get will be appreciated. We'll need to look for other devices already running ICS that have similar hardware.
Like I said, work's crazy busy, so right now I don't have much time to hunt for this info.
However, I may be able to use the HP Touchpad (which I also have, running CM9) as a starting point. The Jetstream has a Qualcomm MSM8260 CPU, where the TP is using a MSM8060. They're similar, yet obviously not identical CPUs.
We'll also need to figure out the other hardware, like what display, touchscreen, wifi, etc. hardware the Jetstream is using.
With any luck, we'll get something. It sucks that Honeycomb is closed source. That'll make things a little bit harder. At least the kernel's open source still.
I'm going to post this over in the Dev section, for anyone who wants to help with data mining.
Oh, and I don't want the bounty. Just getting ICS on this device would be enough reward for me.

Doubtful. Like I said, I'm not a super-dev or anything, and things like bypassing/decrypting security are beyond me.
There's a couple people over in the Development forum who are buzzing about this. Apparently there *may* be an HTC dev willing to help out, if I understood correctly.
Let's push this!
this needs to get more attention. Otherwise it's just going to die off, I think for a developer to be truly interested we need more then $300, because building ICS for this device won't be easy. I know task has tried before and he said that he could not get it to work but I'm not sure how much time he had to play around with it since his daughter is sick. Maybe we can reach out to some tech media like Engadet, Boy Genius Report, or Tom's Hardware or even contact XDA and see if they can make a post about this on the portal homepage and really it this idea put there. I'm pretty sure that the jetstream has a bigger community then this just they might not know about xda...
its a matter of time, mainly.
this forum was never alive for more than a few days in a row..
people doesnt come here to often. we need to try and wait, and keep the posts going.
also - if someone feels the sums are too high, any contribution will count! even 5-10 dollars from a few people could make a change.
in the event of this not working, try signing my petition here, http://www.thepetitionsite.com/480/...ew-jetstream-jetstream-4g-android-40-upgrade/
What is the most insulting about the whole process is that HTC is discontinuing support (which is the only way to describe not updating software even a few months after release) and still insistent on keeping the device locked down for "user experience". I mean they could almost get XDA devs to do the support for free if they weren't so possessive about the device after the POS. Fingers crossed on that contact pulling through.
It looks like we could loose a good developer to a Samsung phone (plasticly! ick!) in the near future, so I suggest anyone with a real desire to see a clean senseless version of ICS on this beast of a phone consider getting on board with this effort.
http://amaze.sandvold.as/
I'm not associated with this in any way other than being a user of the Amaze. I also know Sandvold's work from the HTC Desire, and they have some pretty good stuff running on some pretty limited hardware.
(For those unfamiliar, this started playing out on page 56 of the CM9 thread)
Edit: Said defecting-to-Samsung developer that I mentioned in the first sentence has since stated that he's sticking around for awhile.

Bump.
So there's no one else?
I remember earlier this year during a time of rapid development when the internal memory quit on his Desire. After letting everyone know that he tried and failed to revive the device, he checked in once more before going to bed to say he'd figure out what next to do tomorrow. We rallied and in the morning he had more than enough money for a replacement.
It was nice to see everyone come thru with a few bucks each and post in the thread all-of-a-sudden with a rapid succession of donations, willing that development not stop.
But that was the Desire. I'm guessing the user base was larger... but more active? It seems like there's only 3 of us here - passing the ball back and fourth. <shrug>
Anyone else wanna jump in here and prove me wrong with a donation? $10? $5? 2?!!
I'm hoping that more people will to Sandvold! I want to see development kick off on this device!
It says ending July 15th, but imho, should leave it up longer. Maybe even through the end of the year; hopefully people will get it for Christmas especially since the contract price will have dropped by then.
I understand what you mean, but I'd think he'd be moved on to another device before then.
I'm not aware of who made the two other donations, but I'll get it rolling ala Feb...

Edit: I guess the easiest way to say it, if there are gonna be bounty or donate threads, I'd want to see the potential developer themselves say things to convince me of their awesomeness and desire to contribute.
Development does not make the device, I hope you guys know that.. outside of efforts to get things like CM9 and other true custom firmware, I'm not sure what people want. I don't think we need more developers unless they can contribute to those efforts.. or is that what this dev you want would bring to the table, and somehow I missed it?
I for one know that a GOOD developer can make plenty of contributions as long as they have a supply of willing testers, and if they could help make headway on any of the projects already going on - THEN I might be willing to throw a few dollars their way.. but I(and I think others) think that funds are too tight to share without more certain contributions..
We can't bribe a developer to come made solid contributions if they have no excitement for the device itself - unless they really WANT to contribute, if they have other projects going on, ours is always going to be a lower priority.
I hear what you're saying, and I agree. Personally I saw what was done with the Desire, and I think that my few dollars are well spent here. I'm hoping for more than Sense to pick from, and I think others feel that way too.

And I suggest chaos-x or dexter. They both have managed to get aokp and jb respectively for the flyer. Dexter has gotten a working scribe pen for the flyer jb. Both seem really good developers. Would be good to approach them for help. So also would be the developers of villain and el Diablo roms for the Jetstream.

well, we've got a serious dilema on our hands.
yncconsulting is willing to try and develop jb for us, but he needs a device. we can put up our money and buy one for him,
and here lays a dilema:
on the one hand, we'll have a developer on the forum, which is awesome. and it could mean jb for the device.
on the other hand, there's always a chance he won't succeed, leaving us without the money or the proper version.
the price for an unused device is about 350$ and that is what yncconsulting wants.
personally, i think we should go for it. probably our last chance..
if we will all be in agreement, we'll work the details of how to put the money together.

hum.. though one guru, but what the heck. But I know there are used devices in good conditions for less than 350.
"the price for an unused device is about 350$ and that is what yncconsulting wants. "
i tried the used angle. the developer said that if all he's getting out of this is a device, he want it to be new. i can understand that.

dang it. the poll is useless..i can't say which of voted yes, so i can't tell how much money we gathered..
please add a message with your opinion.
thanks.
also,
not to disrespect the developer that contacted us, but maybe we should be the choosers here...i think we should try and suggest this device for a developer from one of the big crews (cm, aokp)...
thoughts?
Hi
so, we've got a proven developer, show-p1984, willing to help us get this device to the modern age.
all we need now is to get him a device.
our guy lives in Germany, so if there's a European user wanting to Part with his device - Let us know please!
if there isn't: we need to put the money together and get him a device.
the cheapest ebay device i've seen is 249$. to which we'll have to add 20% tax in Germany. this will get us to about 300$.
it seems to have free shipping.
all of us willing to put the money upfront - this is the current division between us:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkSenxSHUyy_dHZvSUhZbjczSk55bkEyd1dfYnBYNVE
i opened a Paypal account for this purpose. i will share the account Password with another forum member, for control purposes.
the shortest way to go is using the "Donate to me button" of my user. this will take you to donate to a user called "xda.jetstream".
the faster we all get the money in, the faster we'll get jb..
thanks.
3rd HUGE donation...3-4 more people and we're on our way!

You can get a brand new jetsream at all4cellular with the coupon code "A4C20" for $200!
this is what you call "too little too late"
the operation is finished and the device is on his way to our guy. usps are taking their sweet time on it..
I am sorry I missed this operation, but to provide an added incentive to the dev, I will be offering a $100 tip as soon a ROM the community is happy with is ready.
I will gladly pledge $ upon evidence of development.
I hope this isn't another project that gets dropped.
if everything goes as planned - we should be ok.
the device is still on its way to show_p1984. its super annoying, but DHL are the problem now...
show_p1984 gave me his word that in case he should fail, or something like that he will send the device to another developer, of our choice. all we got is his word, but i trust him and keeping in touch with him.
Update:
the device made it to our guy last week, after about 3 weeks of shipment.
unfortunately he got damaged during the shipment, and we're trying to get at least a partial refund. the damage is cosmetic and won't disturb with the developing, probably.
show_p1984 had some time to play with the device and decided that the most important thing required is JB. not the storage bug, not a proper 3.1 rom..he's going straight for JB ROM. this could take a while, i'll update here when something will happen.
thanks again to all the donators.

1 person can apparently do this.
But HTC won't pay their development team to update the ROM.

Glad to see that things are moving quickly.
Once we have a method for getting JB on to the Jetstream, will the developer produce a comprehensive how-to guide for all of us who have no experience with roms, rooting, etc.?
probably. if not them, the reset of the forum.
i have a feeling once proper ROM will available, more users will get here.

showp said that you would at least need the HTC unlock 's-off wanna be' he called it. i think he's referring to the bootloader. best way to find out is to wait and see..
Showp just tweeted me:
I have a Jetstream and already got JB booting. gfx support is nearly done, some other small stuff is missing but it's getting there

Well I won't dev on sense (zip hacking... brrr...), but my kernel should do that too (except wifi/bt/usb as usual)

As I see it -> we should get a (great) sense dev onboard.
Because as far as I know, the stylus is involved with sense!
Now I must give props to Showp (aka, Dennis) He is REALY doing GREAT work here!
Thanks for everythign Dennis, and when you release your work, a donation will be coming your way!
The stylus support possible without sense assuming that the stylus component is the same as that of flyer. They have got it working on aosp roms as well...

That is very great news indeed!
We still need to get a great developer on board, because as good as ShowP is with kernels, he is not a very good rom dev, I mean yes he can, but it will take a LOT of time for him, which I think is unnecessary.
chaos-z from the flyer forum once suggested helping..and i think some of the others here could probably port roms since its far easier than kernel development.
and finally, jmztaylor is also working on a rom for the jetstream. so i'm guessing we'll have two roms coming out about the same time.
