Hi All,
Like others, I'm experiencing a problem with SwiftKey - the stock keyboard always shows up as the default after every boot, even though SwiftKey is enabled in settings. I read somewhere that a workaround is to freeze the stock keyboard using Titanium, and convert the SwiftKey app to a systems app. So my question is, how do I do that?
(One X, ARHD 31.3)
I know I can long-click on the correct entry in Titanium's App list to freeze an app, but specifically, what app name do I need to look for (is it Keyboard_english.apk?)
And how do I convert SwiftKey to a system app? I'm not even sure what this means. Do I just have to ensure it's located on internal storage (not SD card)?
Some help is obviously needed! Thanks for yours in advance.
You can try disabling the stock keyboard in Settings>Apps. You can also try using ROM Toolbox to search for app (in my experience it's easier). And converting an app to a system app simply means moving the app from data>app to system>app.

Hi all,
am on stock firmware, rooted, and have two browsers installed: stock and firefox. Whenever the stock browser opens an 'intent' (a new url) the question comes back: which browser do I want to use. Setting a checkmark at 'remember' does not make it actually remember. Same thing happens if another app creates an 'intent'. Clearing the 'defaults' through settings-apps-apps-clear defaults (or similar: my s2 is dutch so the terms are different, e.g. settings is 'instellingen') does not help.
I even downloaded an app that should force the default browser, but that had ni visible effect.
So the question:
Anyone who knows a hack so the stock browser will not ask whether to use firefox? I have no problems with firefox as it assumes correctly that I would like to remain in the same browser when clicking on a link.

I had the same experience recently. I've only had my phone for a week and it was working fine but the last few days I couldn't get the stock browser to be default....it didn't matter what browsers were installed (as long as there was more than just the stock).
I started uninstalling apps that I had installed recently. Uninstalling "claystone launcher" is what fixed the problem for me.
If you don't have claystone launcher already installed, then try removing other apps (one at a time). You can see a list of apps that you installed and when you installed them by clicking "my market account" at market.android.com.
Hope this helps.
thanks for the idea.
uninstalled a few apps,.including all alternative launchers, but to no avail

I'm not sure. Something wrong with system preference?
The stock browser have this inconvenient behavior for notify user to choose browser every time. Why not stick with Firefox. It should not notify you any more.
Everytime i update a ROM, i loose my settings of different pages in my phone ,i have reinstall the widgets (not the app). Is there a better way to do these. I mean, i want my facebook widget to be on a page and Pulse news and bbc on one page, I have it set right now but if i update to the new version of the ROM i am using i will have to recreate all that.
Can anyone guide on this matter ?

I have yet to find a good way to do this, other than using a third-party launcher so that it can be restored using "restore missing apps and data" in TiBu.
Also some third-party launchers have their own backup and restore functions.
There's no clean way to do this for built-in launchers, especially since many ROMs change the launcher to modded variants.
As entropy said. Find a launcher with save & restore option. Otherwise Titanium backup.
I would be interested too if you find something to solve this without an app.

even with a 3rd party launcher, i dont think widgets can be restored.
This is correct.I kmow Launcher pro will save the placement of the widget but it will show as "problem loading widget" so essentially its useless in that aspect.
If you use the widgets that are specific for the launcher you are using, the restore will work. However, if you use a widget from another application, the launcher does not know where to find the app. I am not sure why this happens, it may be because a unique ID is assigned an app upon install, and perhaps that ID is used when setting a widget. When you re-install an app (or all of them in the case of a TiBu restore) the apps get new IDs assigned to them... That is just a guess.
Regardless, every launcher has this issue with app widgets. Somehow they get around it with their own proprietary widgets.
I Have no idea how, but somehow "Eyes-Free keyboard", has been installed on my phone. It doesn't appear in my installed apps list. Not even in titanium backup.
I've tried downloading it from the market. but it just installed another instance of the keyboard.
how can i remove it?
Market >> My Apps >> APP >> Uninstal
Settings Applications Manage Applications uninstall
or contact the developer .

As i mentioned in my post. This keyboard isn't listed in the market or in any other place (including settings).
Look for it under data/app with root explorer or the likes.

Not even there.
i think it was bundled with some other app.
the weird thing is that unlike other market keyboard this one doesn't the option to un-tick it in the list of keyboards.
Eyes-free keyboard is a project for accesibility. The lastest version of Google talkback installed eyes-free. If you want to remove eyes-free keyboard, then, you can force stop talkback, and then uninstall the lastest updates. Hope this helps.
was just looking for this solution. Thanks. I use swiftkey x as my default keyboard but eyes-free keeps taking over and I have to change my input method every time I go to type, tried changing it in settings too and it always goes back.

Hello everyone. I'm a noob around here and I'm the owner of Lg Optimus Sol and I want to find the answer to some questions.
I would like to know if there is any possibility to prevent accidental deletion of applications or if there is an application that can run in the background and help me to prevent accidental deletion of any applications. An example application that I'm looking for is "Apps Undeletable" for iPhone which unfortunately is not available for Android.
I searched the forum but have not found anything to help me.
I have found a way in this forum to move applications in folder system / app, something I tried with Titanium Backup Pro and copying applications directly to folder with Root Browser. But both solutions failed because after application is installed as a system app really cannot be deleted but in this way application is not working because it crashes every time when I try to run it.
So if you have an ideea how to make an app undeleteble please help me.
Thank you for your help!
Search the android market for app lock and you will find apps that can apparently do what you need.
Its harder to accidentally uninstall an app but you can also backup apps just in case it happens using titanium backup or gemini app manager in case you did delete any.

Thank you for your help.I've searched the market but have not found anything to help me, all applications have the option to put your password when starting the application but I still found none to protect them from removeing.
I search this option becauseit happened to give the phone to certain persons and "accidentally" delete certain applications.
i think titanium backup is only solution. i had same problem with crashing app and i didnt find any solution
Anybody can help me?
Please help me I really need this function.
Using whatever app protector app you use add the Package Installer system app to the list of protected apps so whenever someone tries to uninstall an app they will have to enter your unlock password/pattern. I use Application Protection (which has package installer added by default) but this should work with any app.
I've tried with app protector protecting Package Installer but is asking me for password only when I'm installing an app not when I'm uninstalling it.
One of the first things which surprised me on Moto Z is the quite absolute lack of bloatware or, anyway, stock installed software.... it quite lacks of basic apps!
BUT looking better, I've found that in ROM there are several "iced" apps, correctly recognized by apps like Titanium Backup....
They are:
- Amazon self update (Market or app for buying items?)
- App Box (?)
- App Widget (?)
- AttPhoneExtns (reported as system app...??)
- File Manager (that sometimes appears called by settings...)
- Automatic prefix (call related I think...)
- Prip Omega (the icon remind something about wifi/wireless/nfc connections)
Nobody has tested or have more information on them?
I saw them aswell. They can't be deinstalled as titanium backup will just say "apk not found" and xposed module "installeropt" says that the app was deinstalled but it's actually not.
The strange thing is once you deice the apps, "file manager" for example works but you can't delete the app altogether.
