[Q] Google Search, older version? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Everyone,
I want to find an older (or modded) version of Google Search app (apk),
The phone is a Jiayu G3 QCT, Android 4.2.1
My default Google Search app (2.6.7.721924.arm) always does a web search, even if I only mark apps, contacts, music and files. Web search cannot be unmarked, only History and Bookmarks. For example, in a very old version (1.1.2.64376, gingerbread) web search can be entirely unmarked. I tried to find a changelog, or a version history of this app but I found nothing.
Is there a previous version that can be forced to search on the device only, without even showing web results?
For Web search, I already use the android browser.
If possible, I'd like to retain the offline voice search functionality (Seems to be included in the search app)
I don't need Google Now, I don't care if it's included or not.
I'd appreciate any help you can provide.

I had one on my froyo stock rom...but i deleted it. You can try to search it on Google or an alternative market

I suppose I could try a different search app without replacing the Google one, so I don't lose any other features. Thanks anyway. :good:

[Q] browser.apk default search engine

Hi all, some time ago i switched using search site google , and am using duckduckgo.com
for several reasons that i am not going into now, but if you need to know you can read on:
http://donttrack.us/
&
http://dontbubble.us/
i am now happy to be able to use a native app from duckduckgo, that i found on the market, however the android builtin browser still doesn't give me any option to choose from another search engine then only the searchengines programed into the browser.apk
some guy has found a trick and rebuild the browser app,
and added DDG to the search-engines list.
http://hoelz.ro/blog/adding-duckduckgo-as-an-android-browser-search-engine
is anyone here savvy enough to do the same for a DEFY+ BL7
(Defy+ 4.5.1-134_DFP-231) rooted phone.
meaning: rebuilding the browser app, with duckduckgo added as default search engine option... ?
specifically for this rom supplied at this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1595013
thanks for any help.

Google Search on Cyanogen 9 ICS 4.0.4 Alpha 5

Do more people experience crashes with Google Search on this ROM? The only solution for me is to only search in the browser...? Ideas?
Hello, I personaly use browser for search. Didn't encourage any issues.Else, this ROM crashes itself sometimes... so maybe its all okay with search.
I will test Google Search and include in my "To-Do" list.

[Q] Google play version

Thanks, but my question was regarding a method to know that irrespective of time frame, so i could just use it to know which is the current version of play without referring to multitudes of threads (often dead) and create ones like this.

[Q] updated to JB, but no google now

my friend's S3 recently received an update to JB. he updated it through Kies. He decided to test the new feature of the google search app called Google Now but he cant see it. Going to the settings of the said app, there should be an option for Google NOw there, but in his phone, there is none. Even the UI which is supposed to show mountains and cards is not in his S3's google search app, his is just plain search box UI.
What could be are the problems?
Look at your apps, it's simply called Google. (blue box, white G) and when launched it gives some info on Google now and asks if you want to use it. In Applications Manager it says Google Search.

THE ANSWER IS: language of phone should be English(UNited States)...tsk tsk..
Well the language of my phone us English (United Kingdom), but thanks for your comment, I hope you get any further help you need with that kind of attitude.

Google Dialer and Contacts

Hi,
I got my new Moto Z and one of the things I miss is the Google Dialer and Contacts. I came across on the forum that it is possible to load it without rooting etc.
Could somebody direct me to the correct latest apk and maybe a simple few steps how to do it as I'm a bit nooby when it comes to things like that?
Many thanks in advance!!
This is the one that I use and it seems to work fine:
APKMirror
HTH
Ooms
