LG G2 slower than Nexus 4 - G2 General

I've just updated my old phone, the N4, to 4.4. Figured it was time to do some comparisons.
Basically I've had the phones side by side, and done the same operations simultaniously.
The N4 is totally clean and has nothing on it yet. The G2 is a week old and has some stuff on it.
The results are as follows:
Opening Dialer app - Takes approx 1sec on N4, 2.5sec on the G2
Opening the camera app - 1 sec on the N4, 2.5-3sec on the G2
Opening the Maps app - faster on the N4
Searching for a location: The N4 is faster at determining it's own location, faster at finding the route, smoother at panning to the location. The G2 has animation problems here.
QuickOffice - Near instant on N4, 1.5-2.5secs on G2
Home-button - The N4 got back to the home screen in less than a third of the time. Might have something to do with me havinga couple of widgets on the G2, but still.
Nova Launcher on the G2 had some suggestions of micro stutter while navigating, the stock google launcher on the N4 was 100% fluid.
It's tempting for me to just sell the G2 again, and go back to the N4, although I'll miss the perfect screen, great camera and amazing sound quality. The G2 is great on paper, but I'm just having a really tough time loving it.

Sell it asap then, the earlier you will, the less money you lose.

You're right. I'm gonna flash an AOSP rom first and see how I like it Seeing as the sound quality will probably be preserved and there's an LG camera app for AOSP ported by this great community. Hopefully the launch of N5 will drizzle som rom interoperability on the G2 community too.

I have both, and indeed the Nexus 4 is faster at navigating the home screen, opening apps, opening the dialer.
However, once you start doing some real stuff like opening a web page or web browsing, email navigation, Facebook app navigation, etc. there is no contest whatsoever, G2 is significantly faster. Camera is also faster to open and operate on the LG G2.

You're right about what you say. even my old phone galaxy nexus 3 is faster at opening some basic apps like call log, camera and messaging. but what makes me bother was its charging cycle per day, some days it would be three(3g is open through the day, indispensable for me) so i bought lg g2. On the upshot, as you say N4 is faster for daily use than lg g2(except bench tests which make no sense for those like me), if you can bare its battery performance, just go for it

Flash cm and all be Ok
Sent from my LG-D802 using xda app-developers app

The Nexus 4 will be quicker in navigating the home screen and opening stock apps as 4.4 Kit Kat has significant optimizations in the code allowing it to run much more smoothly on lower end devices and seeing as the G2 is on 4.2, it doesnt have these optimizations. Once the G2 has 4.4 you will notice the G2 will run circles round the N4

Thanks for the info... but these "comparison threads" are pretty pointless and almost always degenerate into arguing.
Hence the reason why I'm closing this one.

Change governor to interactive and turn on temperature priority. See is that helps you out.
No lag at all, phone dialer takes less than a second to open.

Just put an aosp rom on your g2 and change the governor and wamo no difference
Edit: I also have an n4 with kk on it....I should know

Why?

I dont mind opening basic app if that take 1 or 2 secs,, its still fast imo

Really cant stand it
Stock, only root
Do i really see the Note 3 on the second place?

LG needs to fix the ui lag when opening up stock apps, the dialer stutters sometimes when changing tabs left n right. 4.4 update should address performance issues. G2 Zooming and scrolling in browser will run circles on the Nexus 4 easily. S800 adreno 330 no slouch.

Help - G2 or Nexus 5

I currently have a GS3 with CM11 4.4.2 and I'm thinking of upgrading. I've been doing some research and my two options are Nexus 5 or LG G2. I know well the differences, but I was wondering how the LG G2 with Kitkat compares to the Nexus 5?
I don't really care about the camera (as long as it works). I usually have Tasker, BT (synced with my G-Shock watch) and BitTorrent Sync running 24/7 (I know the G2 has a bigger battery that I could use, but I'm wondering if it makes that big of a difference).
Any feedback is welcomed.
Thanks,
Vic.

I got the LG G2 less than a month ago. I've been asking myself that question since I got it (G2 vs N5).
I almost regretted getting the G2 but the battery is too good. I ended up flashing custom ROMs instead of waiting for LG's OTA and I am SO glad I did.
This phone now feels like a Nexus 5 in every way except for the shell. I put on ParanoidAndroid and it works flawlessly. The sweet part is I get to have the latest stock 4.4.2 android with no bloatware, and I still have the large battery of the LG G2.
I held both in my hand before I made a decision. I was really dead set on getting a Nexus 5 because it was so much cheaper (plus I was coming from the N4 which I loved), but something about it didn't vibe with me. There was a sharp edge that dug into the heel of my hand on the back of the N5. Not painful, but enough to make me aware of it which is also enough to annoy. The G2 was more comfortable.
So I went with the G2 with the intention of flashing it to an AOSP rom. I regret some things--I would have really loved to keep wireless charging of the N5, plus the material on the back of the Nexus 5 beats the material on the back of the G2 by a mile in my eyes. But I could never be happy with a device that I wasn't totally comfortable using.
That said, a family member has a Nexus 5 so I get to play with both. While the N5 has features I would have prefered keeping, I don't regret my decision to go with the G2 instead. It's a great device.
I actually had the nexus 5 and traded fir a g2. The battery difference is amazing. I get almost double the screen time with the g2. The camera and screen on g2 are also nicer and then all the other stuff is Pretty much the same (besides software obviously) and the nexus 5 is a tiny bit smaller. I also don't really like the buttons on the g2 but I have the verizon version so they are smaller than normal. At least they don't rattle like a lot of the nexus 5 ones. A case helps a lot with finding the buttons easier. Overall I prefer the g2 because of the bigger battery and nicer screen. The nexus 5 has yellowish tint thigh I didn't really notice until trying the g2. The nexus 5 was better for me in terms of looks which I thought were nicer though I cover it with a case anyway and the software was smoother. Coming front an s3 you'll find the g2 great and I'd go with that one. Flash a cushion Rom and it'll be a better version of the nexus 5 imo. Hope this helps

I came from a GNex running cm 10.1 and the g2 is a thousand times better. there are things I miss not having or being able to easily configure on the stock Rom but I don't think I could be
any happier with it. it's not super over the top like touchwiz and even the stock launcher has allowed me not to install nova prime. I'm on vzw so my version has wireless charging.
the battery life of the g2 is simply amazing. this is my first phone without a removable battery and I do not worry about running out of juice later in the day. nor do I have to change my usage habits or carry spare batteries. the battery is going to last the entire day, period.
the knock on feature let's u forget about the button placement entirely. I still use my gn on my wireless network and find myself tapping the screen to turn it on every single time. it's something every phone should have.

Originally i got G2 because my gnex was beyond dead and on Tmobile jump I could get N5 when it came out. Now not happening i will either get the G3 or G2 in white. Not worth it to switch. Aosp was my main reason for n5 but with all the dev support for g2 i get aosp plus now i know i have the better screen and battery life on the g2! Cheers!

If the camera isn't a big deal then honestly it's a question of battery and software. I don't really think the buttons make a huge difference, especially with double tap to wake. As a Verizon customer, I was not able to consider the Nexus, but as an incredibly heavy user of my phone, I wouldn't switch to the Nexus even if I could, the battery on this phone is just too fantastic. The Verizon variant doesn't sacrifice wireless charging, and I love the camera on it, and the screen is definitely higher end. There is the matter of software. Obviously the Nexus 5 comes out of the box with a pretty much flawless version of the latest of AOSP. The G2 has plenty of custom ROMs that are quite nice. But like with most non-existent devices, there are some minor issues Sometimes due to having older proprietary drivers/binaries. For me it isn't an issue, some of these ROM/kernel combinations are solid as a rock for me. And then there's the stock ROM. Honestly, it's fantastic, probably the best OEM ROM I have ever used. I ran Malladus, a slightly modified version of it for a long time and honestly I only switched because of a few very specific things that I just had customize. Stock/Stock-based + G2 Xposed is a fantastic combination. It's up to you and you know how you use your phone, but for me the battery alone would seal the deal. It's just so liberating to have it and not have to worry about it.

The only thing that really hinders the G2 is the outdated software otherwise it beats the N5 with a larger battery and better camera. Oh and
I really happen to like the rear facing buttons a whole lot. It makes one handed operation a breeze. Unless of course if you happen to have the vzw version where they changed the buttons and made them smaller and flatter which really sucks if you ask me.
Had the nexus 5 and it was very nice....but the g2 is better...,software is behind...yes...but its not like the gs is running ice cream sandwich.

Thanks a lot for all the replies everyone. I really like the feel and case of the Nexus 5, and I actually dislike the buttons and the LG logo on the front of the G2. But the battery is a big thing for me as I'm always running a lot of apps in the background. And software is not a biggie because I'll be putting kitkat on it.
Now I just need to make sure my Casio watch is compatible with it.
Thanks again.
Vic.

One more advantage of g2 is probably accessories like otterbox. You won't find that for nexus 5. I don't use otter box either way but a lot of people care about that thigh I think the case is way too big ans ruins thephone.

I got a G2 recently and am 93% happy with it.
I was coming form a Nexus 4 and was certain I would get a Nexus 5. At the last minute while looking at the displays in the store and testing how they felt in my hand, I decided to go for the G2.
The missing 7% is the plastic back and the lack of wireless charging. These are both things that are superior on the Nexus 5 that I wish I could have on the G2. Especially wireless charging, the Nexus 4 spoiled me in that regard. It's just so much better for wear and tear on the phone's USB port which had been a problem area for me on my Galaxy S2, plus the tilted charging orb of the Nexus made a handy pseudo-dock. I am still glad I went with the G2 because the screen, battery life, and camera are all better but I do miss the wireless charging and rubberized back of the Nexus 5.

Coming from the Atrix HD I like my G2: big screen, no lag, nice interface. I miss the ability of the Atrix HD file manager to access my PC as remote storage. I know I can do the opposite with wireless storage but when working on the phone it means having to go back and forth to the PC.
to me:
battery - very good
speed - can lag through menus, but ok
camera - i'd say between ok and poor compared with a Note 2 that I owned. photos seems to be fuzzier. + as usual LG photos take too much space (for less better). OIS... this shouldnt be a strength. macro shots are good
memory - if you take many long videos and photos, stock many music and movies in it, this phones not for you. an additional usb storage to move or stock data is required
LG UI... - good, I don't find it too much like some tests say. too bad settings background is white, i would have preferred black. I don't use Slide Aside but it's interesting, sometimes Q-slide and QuickMemo.
Image edition = very poor
Video Editor is really good, too bad you can't use imported photos and videos (some videos may work).
weather app - not really accurate
voice mate - don't use it. just did a few times just for fun
keyboard - don't like. can't have suggestion when clicking on a word that was mispelled (like Samsung keyboard). the second line of letters doesnt fill the entire space. several keyboard themes is interesting though
microphone - good quality
KnockOn is a ++. I find myself dumb when double tapping on other phones to unlock the screen
all of this coming from stock rom with no "make the phone better" apps.

I just bought a QI tag that fits between the phone and the cover (invisibly) and plugs in to the mini USB. Works like a charm for about £10 :good:
Great phone. For the 3+ months I have had it I haven't had an issue.
-Beautiful screen with minimal bezel
-Great battery 24+hours/5+ hours screen time
-Plenty of dev support
-Big fan of the rear keys + knock on/off
-Fast. Haven't experienced any lag (using Nova Launcher)
Only negative is the slow updates from LG. With a custom skin I don't think updating is as crucial but I want 4.4 so I can use google wallet again

You're in the wrong thread. Post that question in the troubleshooting thread and give all details. Good luck!

Finally impressed.

All I can say is wow. Had this phone for a few days now and it really is the best I've had...
I've had Samsung S3, HTC Sensation, Google Nexus 4 amongst about 20 others.
Here is where I think the LG excels.
Screen. Obviously my first full HD screened phone but just wow. Looks great and just feels right. Decent brightness and viewing angle. Using it at 35 percent brightness suits my usage.
Software. Some of you may have strongly differing opinions here but here goes. Im waiting for official KitKat for UK g2 but I've installed the German Vodafone KitKat. Runs so smooth, nowhere near as bloated as sense or touchwiz. I like the white tabbed menus, I like the few customisation options like icons and the soft buttons. Knock on and off is fantastic less buttons equals less bezel.
Battery. Max screen on time I've come near in my usage on any other phone was maybe 5 hours tops with really light usage. With this phone I'm hitting 8 hours.
Camera. Not a huge user of the cam but compared to other phones I've had I'm getting fantastic results in general day to day. I'm sure low light is where some of you would dispute.

Yup really is.
Good thing is that it seems it will hold its own for a while. There aren't many new chipsets coming out. The SD800 is pretty much it. Even the next gen Galaxy phone is based on it. So we're right at the top as far as performance and compatibility.
i just got my LG G2 (T-MO) a few days ago and i love it even on stock which is rare for me. from what i can tell 4.4 has just rolled out recently which would explain the lack of root methods that do not involve reverting the OTAs and custom T-MO specific roms which is just more for me to look forward to. I even have my work cell forwarding calls to my G2 because of the handset love!

At LG you can remove the bloatware. At least on KitKat froms for F320. I'm not sure it's the same for other variants.
LG is the next to rise IMO, the G2 is just the beginning. There needed to be a new leader anyways. HTC had their time and Samsung is done.

I have bought a g2 16Gb version 1 month ago and still feel very happy about my choice
Was about to get a nexus 5 but the battery and camera of G2 had me going in that direction..
A very good phone, it's worth buying the LG official quickwindow case as well
Im running stock LG unrooted rom and havent felt the need to tweak anything yet, which is weird since my previous phone was a galaxy nexus and during the last months I was used to trying a new ROM every afternoon
FYI 4 colleagues of mine also got a G2 after seeing mine during the last month
Specifically for the 16Gb version, you need to carry an OTG cable and a usb stick if you go on vacation (which may mean limited or no LTE coverage) and want to use the phone to get pictures and video, as video will get the available storage get full rather easy

LG G2 Review |After 6 months of use|

I have used the G2 since the end of September. So let's see how it stacks up now that all the other flagships have been announced.
LG Gpro 2 features for the G2 http://goo.gl/GpXU9V http://goo.gl/PfxCBb

You can follow me on twitter http://goo.gl/WMidl3 and Google+http://goo.gl/ChDEf to keep up with my updates
You might as well call this "review of a G Pro 2 ROM on a G2" since all you did was show off G Pro 2 features.

Too bad it's a video so I won't watch it. A text review is much more easy to follow (for Google ranking too).

You didn't miss anything. Home screen swiping, about screen, etc. Pretty exciting stuff.
Could you find most lagfree ROM based on KK and make vid similar to that? To show off is G2 lag free after 6 month and latest ROMs or is it still has lags. In mentioned vid its basically apps starting and scrolling and swiping and snowing that OneM8 is super lagfree device even smoother that N5

That English is so damn awesome.Stay counting 2 milli seconds of lag that I can't even see.The G2 is the only device that makes me not desire anything atm and I certainly would not upgrade for a millisecond of lag.Don't know why people come up with stupid arguments!

G2 vs S6 Edge...App Test (Video) G2 keeps up Nicely!!!!

Something I think will make several G2 owners Smile

Enjoy your flagship phone ladies and gents.
The G2 is still a BEAST in 2015 :good:
Now imagine it had 5.1.1, it would be at least 30% faster because of no memory leaks. I remember jumping from 5.0 to 5.1 on my Nexus 4 and WOW the difference was HUGE
G2 is a MONSTER!

Even on my wife's Moto E 2015, the jump from 5.0 to 5.1.1 was pretty amazing. That little thing is blazing fast now.
As far as G2, I'm running CM12.1 and it is slightly faster than stock 5.0.2. Not that much though.
Yes the G2 aged pretty well
I bougth an S6 (non-edge) a few weeks ago but sent it back after a week because for the price it simply wasn't a significant improvement over the G2 (and battery life on the S6 is a joke...).
On the stock rom the S6 felt slower than the G2 and there's no CM/AOSP for the Samsung Exynos phones (plus I really don't like the hardware buttons).
I have both the s6 edge and the note four, and I tell you, the LgG2 keeps up with them both.
And it came with Lte which was missing in my version of the Note 4.
It's smooth, great on multitasking, has a bright, popping screen and excellent battery life.
The one thing is that mine's the 16g - woefully inadequate these days.
Still, I have two brand new batteries ordered and some new Casing - I'm keeping this phone forever.
Even the edges of the screen are slightly curved, and I kid you not - the glass they used, and the coating they applied is better than anything out there at the moment.
Ok. I gush.

I feel a slowdown on stock 5.0.2 when i multitask (instagram-chrome-messenger-youtube), something i dont experience on 4.4.2 or CM12.1 (but its buggy)
Nice to see the G2 perform so well.
But what about the signal strength?
The S6 shows signal and the G2 does not.

G2 is a dream come true, the closest to a perfect phone, shame it has to die software wise. LG really made a stellar phone to trump the S4 and it did in every way. Size, buil, the camera, display and even software is much better and snapdragon 800 is still present in todays flagships with slight frequency increase. Hell, even the G3 is basicaly a G2 with 2K display. Smartphones have reached their apex in 2013 - 2014, there is no practical need to upgrade them hardware wise, only software. But we know how that goes. A great shame But kudos to LG for making this phone.
Well, it's the G2
That's one reason I love my G2.
And with Android 5.1 or 6 it will become even better!
Best phone ever from the best phone brand!

This is what I was looking for!
I assume you have an Exynos Note 4 as well.
For a while I was considering getting a N910c but started work on my G2's glass only repair to bring it back to life again.
Long story short I have decided to hold off on getting a Note 4 bc the G2 is still a damn good phone I don't have any reason to.
Its so fast it was way ahead of its time

G2 Has a great Radio.
Currently replacing the screen on my G2 and have been using my Moto G LTE for a while.
Motorola IMO still makes the best radios for cell phones since they've been doing it for so long.
The Moto G gets a signal in places where other phones (iphone included) die.
The G2 I have (D801) is the only phone I can say I've seen come close to the Motorola especially if you use one compatible with your Network.
Its a damn good phone AND tablet.
For the price its a STEAL.
This is coming from someone who bought it new at full price 600.00 back in 2013.

It's just because G2 doesn't have any SIM card plugged in.

The radio on the G2 is excellent. It's very, very quick, and the management is excellent - it locks on very fast and uses it very efficiently.
The Note 4 is an excellent phone too though, for the price now. Just make sure you're looking at the LTE supported version. The camera is far better than the G2, and that stylus....
Still, every time I use the G2, I'm surprised. It's quick and smooth and built like a solid block. It goes everywhere with me, and more often than not, it saves the day.
And did I say it's quick? It's quick.
I'm keeping mine forever.

outside of the camera, how does the G2 compare to the Note 4 in day to day usage, speed, graphics etc?
If this phone had 5.1 stock it would do better than in 5.0.2. It is like 25-30% faster and more responsive

Outside the camera and the stylus, the G2 is excellent. It's faster in many aspects, the scrolling is very smooth especially on Lollipop, the RAM management is far superior. Day to day, you just whip out the phone and you're up and running. The G2 had a wonderful screen - however, here, the Note 4 is clearly in a different league.
The G2 will take everything you throw at it though, and chuck it back at you quickly, and keep doing it all day.
It's a wonderful, wonderful phone - even the camera with X-cam is better than most. Anyone who's had the G2 and then moved will tell you immediately, that things are just not the same.

iMO Note 4 is much better than G2, G2 is still best for its price.Note 4 performance is slower than G2 but it open apps much faster than G2 and multitasks 3,4 apps easily. Dont know why note 4 display is little bit greenish than G2.For gaming Note 4 is far superior than G2 in smoothness, boths have not so much graphics differences.Battery life on note 4 is worse than G2.IMO G2 has much better battery life than Note 4.

G2 has an IPS panel screen which is more realistic in color reproduction than amoled - any graphic designer will choose an IPS panel monitor over any LCD/LED one anytime...
amoled, on the other side, is better in contrast and brightness... i personally like G2 screen more...
Yes, the G2 keeps up with the S6 Edge nicely. Just imagine though, it someone had managed to load the Nexus 5's 4.4.4 stock onto it? That's a whole extra 20% speed right there. :victory:
Yes I could not even believe I am still using a G2 though it still 6 months old to me, I really wanted this phone ever since its release.
my only gripe are the following;
- on CM12.1 and Stock it suffers from thermal throttling.
- telephony is not so good, (other end could not hear me properly on either phone or headset mode).
- 16GB is not even enough anymore, USB OTG can cripple battery life.
-Can someone please convert a nexus 5.1.1 stock rom port for the LG G2 please? otherwise lets not forget our phone is a beefed up Nexus 5.
